To block abi to gather intelligence on how/where to deal with them? Nigerian government is a joke. How would block their social media accounts help in solving the menace? God help us |
Politics › Re: Price War Deepens As Marketers Slash Petrol By N100 by sekeyso(m): 5:01pm On Dec 22, 2025 |
nairalanda1: The problem is that in other countries they pay for subsidy by taxation
In Nigeria, we pay for subsides from oil revenue which in principle, before stealing, is not enough because your government does not run a productive economy
Also most sane countries pay subsides to the producer ie the refinery, not the consumer subsidy we were paying.
Third, subsized fuel was being smuggled to as many as 6 or more African countries. That increased our subsidy bill. Also as more people own cars and rely on generatiors , that increases subsidy bills as well
Finally , subsides overseas are for the poorest of the poor. For people whose income is very very low. Not for everyone as in Nigeria
Subsides also prevent refineries from making a profit on fuel refining. That leads to the refineries breaking down. As seen in Nigeria and even in Venezuela. Ghana and Niger republic have working refineries which have been working for over 20 years and no subsidy.
E harsh, but na truth.
We have subsidized power , education and health anyway. Even rail transport is subsidized All these you've stated have corruption and inefficiency of government institutions as it's catalyst. Why would the masses suffer for government inefficiencies? Okay now that this government has removed practically all the subsidies and is even taxing the masses to stupor, what has changed? Do we now have better roads, security nko, what of the economy, has the politicians stopped stealing govt revenues? Nothing has changed my brother. You don't take more yams and give to a goat to look after when the goat has practically eaten all the ones in its care. |

nairalanda1: If we had chased out subsidy in 1993, or even in 2012, and let the market set prices, not government, it won't have just been dangote announcing construction of refinery in 2013, there would have been three or four others doing same.
There is a cold reason why for decades they have been telling Nigerians to remove subsidy....it was to provide a level playing field for people who wanted to build refineries...and attract investment to do so. Subsidy meant that the only person able to attract investment was Dangote, and that was because the investors figured out that if subsidy induced losses impacted the refinery in the future, AMCON will just take over Dangote's other businesses and use the cash to pay them off.
Not everything na oppression. Nigerians should have kept quiet in 2012. Instead, everyone shouted that GEJ Na oppressor (me I was not his supporter and never have been, but there is a time to put aside opposition, and look at why some decisions need to be taken). See what we have done to ourselves.
Anyway, BUA dey, there are also 4 extant working private refineries. Oga there's no serious country where energy is not subsidized directly or indirectly. Subsidy is never Nigeria's problem but corruption is. There is no logic that will make good the removal of subsidy in Nigeria. Government subsidy does not stop or affect any serious investor from building refineries |

miracle002: This is the beauty of competition. If the momentum of this competition is sustained, price of petroleum may come down to 400 per liter by March 2026.
Dangote wanted to gain absolute monopoly over petroleum industry. It won't work, as you slash your price, others will follow suit. Fuel importation will continue and you cannot stop it Be dreaming that price will come down to 400. We all know that dangote reduced price because he wants to put up a show for his competitors not because of market dynamics. By tomorrow now he'll return it the normal market price, he can't sustain that price cos he's selling at a loss |

Incognito403: Even if he is not arrested, his evil deeds and reign has been recorded in history. He has secured a position in the rows of tyrants like hitler and pharaoh.
You are also writing your history and securing your position in the row if tyrant-enablers. Which history are you talking about? You must be living in fool's paradise think that's the narrative history will remember. If deleting all the terrorists and their sympathizers is what you define as tyranny than I'm happy to identify with it. |
