The Victim was said to have suffered and struggled from an illness which eventually led to his death.

On Wednesday 6th February, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State said it had identified and deleted names of dead persons from the state's voter registers in preparation for the general election.

Rufus Akeju, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State made the disclosure at a press briefing with reporters in Akure, saiying INEC had already displayed the list of registered voters in all the 18 local government areas of the state.

According to Akeju, the total of 1,828,219 voters were registered in the state while a total of 398,958 Permanant Voter Cards (PVC) were yet to be collected.

"This exercise (display of register of voters) was carried out in this state in the last qaurter of the year 2018. Quite a number of claims raised during the exercise were treated and names of dead persons that are still in the register were identified for deletion.

The statistics of PVC distribution in the state as of 2nd January 2019 is a total number of registered voters 1,828,219 and a total of uncollected PVCs in the state are 398,958" he said

Akeju, who spoke through Assistant Director, Voter Education, Yemi Oguntuase, explained that a total of 41 senatoral contestants and 96 federal constituency contestants will be participating in the 2019 general election exercise in Ondo State. He added that both the presidential and National Assembly election and that of the state assemblies will hold in 3,007 polling units of the state on February 16 and March 2, 2019.

The REC, however, stated that INEC was fully prepared for the elections, stressing that the electoral unmpire with the Inter-Agency Consultatives Committee on Election Security had been working to ensure a peaceful, credible, free and fair 2019 election. He stated that the members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) would be constitute the bulk of Ad-hoc staff that would be deployed for the poll due to existing MoU between INEC and NYSC.

The Smart Card Readers, according to the REC, will be used during the general election in order to confirm that the PVC presented by the voter is genuinely issued by INEC and to also verify if the holder is truley the bonafide owner.

A boy has been stabbed to death by three men who knocked him off his motorcycle, making him London’s latest murder victim.

The 14-year-old boy was found with stab wounds in Waltham Forest shortly before 6.30pm yesterday. He is believed to have been knocked from his moped before being pounced upon.

A police spokesman said: 

It is believed that three males got out of the car and then stabbed the victim before returning to the vehicle and driving off.

Despite efforts of paramedics, he was declared dead at 7.09pm. Next of kin have been informed.

A crime scene is in place. The Homicide and Major Crime team has been informed. There has been no arrest. Inquiries continue

.



A man described how a witness of the incident came into the premises where he works nearby, clearly horrified by what they had seen. He said the witness told him how the teenager who was on the moped was struck by the car which was travelling in the opposite direction.



He said: ‘They said they knocked him off the moped and four people got out of the car and they stabbed him seven times – there were unsurvivable wounds in his back.’

He said the witness recalled how the boy was possibly unconscious when he was stabbed, with his helmet thrown up to 10 metres away.



The man added: ‘He thought it was an accident, that somebody had knocked someone, but then he said they quickly came (out of the car). ‘They beat him up, and they stabbed him, and they left.’

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has just presented the National Register of Voters to Political Parties in Abuja.

According to him, ‘for the 2019 General Elections, the official total number of registered voters is: 84,004,084. ( Eighty Four Million, Four Thousand, and Eighty Four)’.

The commission has also said 850,000 personnel, including ad hoc staff, would be trained for the 2019 general elections. The first phase of the training, which began in Calabar today involved State Training Officers and Assistant Training Officers from the 36 states of the country, and they will in turn train others at various levels.

Two Nigerian criminal gang leaders who have hitherto terrorized the people of Cameroon, were killed during a gun battle with the Cameroonian Task force yesterday Sunday January 6th.

The criminals identified as ‘General Obi’ and Ojong Elvis Ojong, were killed during a shootout in separate raids conducted by Cameroonian task force at their hideouts on Sunday, January 6, 2019.



A statement from the taskforce said General Obi whose group terrorized the working populations of the localities of manfé, okoyong, bachuo ntai, bachuo akagbe, and nchemba was neutralized by a task force of the bir north zone. At the same time, the same task force neutralized general eyong from his real name ojong elvis ojong the one who had ordered his group to rip out the food and materials of the presidential donation distributed last September.

Their camp was destroyed and some weapons recovered or destroyed

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says 25,000 personnel have been deployed across the country in preparation for Christmas.



Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem made this known to journalists in Abuja where he said the effort was part of activities to commence its ‘Operation Zero Tolerance for Road Traffic Crashes’ which began on Wednesday, 19 and would last till January 15, 2019.

“FRSC has defined an operational order; we have the operation zero tolerance to road traffic crashes to combat the menace of road traffic crashes around this period.

We have made deployment of both regular and special marshals close to 25,000. We have also deployed patrol vehicles, advanced life support ambulances, heavy duty trucks, patrol motorbikes, reflective jackets, and breathalyzers among others,” he said.

He explained that the measures were all in a bid to make sure that the roads were accident-free. Kazeem further said the corps’ objectives during the festive period included ensuring free flow of traffic, reduction of crashes to the barest minimum and quick response to distress.

“We want a situation where people will be moving freely without any hitch and in a situation where we have any crash; there should be quick response to distress situation.

There will also be enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations because education and enlightenment without enforcement is just like entertainment. So many people will not heed our call and we have to enforce the law and make sure they heed our call by all means,” he said.

He further said no fewer than 201 mobile courts had been set up nationwide meaning that some people might eventually spend their Christmas behind bars. The public education officer said the corps had employed patrol strategies including having 24 hours visibility along 52 critical corridors and conduct of mobile courts.



“We also have 13 traffic control camps at traffic prone areas for ease of operation and quick response to traffic issues,” said Kazeem, and that the camps were located in Lagos, Mowe, Lokoja, Gwagwalada, Ore, Okene among others.

A middle-aged man simply known as Davy, died in a popular hotel in Ikotun area of Lagos State during a sex competition with a lady identified as Loveth. Guardian newspaper reports that the late Davy had argued with Loveth on who can last longer in bed and had even placed a bet with N50, 000 promising to give it to Loveth if she conquers him after their sex marathon.



It was gathered that while the marathon sex lasted, Davy pulled through to the sixth round but Loveth was unshaken till the seventh round when he collapsed and died on top of her. She then raised the alarm and contacted the hotel management, who handed her over to the Ikotun Police Division while the body of the deceased was deposited at an undisclosed hospital for autopsy.



Loveth was later transferred to the SCIID Panti, Yaba, where she told investigators what transpired between her and the late Davy.

The police say the matter is still being investigated and an autopsy would be carried out on the deceased to determine the cause of death.
