Beware! Don't fall for this scam. The only thing this person will teach you is how to use Google’s "Find My Phone," which is only about 4% effective.

Let me break down phone tracking in simple terms.

It’s absolutely possible to track not just phones, but any GPS-enabled device. Can basic (button) phones be tracked too? Yes, they can, through the IMEI number.

I won’t go into too much detail since some information is classified, but I’ll explain three common methods scammers may try to teach you, none of which are truly effective.

1. IMSI Catcher:
This method is illegal and very limited in scope. IMSI catchers can only track phones within a short range of about 1 to 2 kilometers (0.62 to 1.24 miles) from the person using the device. It’s unreliable for broader tracking.

2. IP Tracking:
If someone tells you they can track your lost phone using its IP address, just say goodbye to whatever money they’re asking for. Tracking is a serious job that requires sophisticated intelligence. While IP tracking can give a rough estimate of a device's location, it’s often too vague to be useful. For instance, if it shows the phone is in Ajegunle, Lagos, consider the countless streets in that area—it's impractical.

3. Google Find My Phone:
Unless your phone has specialized tracking software, like the kind EasyBuy uses, Google’s "Find My Phone" is often a waste of time. For this to work, several conditions must be met: the phone needs to be turned on, connected to the internet, and have its location services activated. Even then, it only shows the phone’s location on Google Maps, which is often not helpful. Once the phone is reset or formatted, all tracking capabilities are lost.

4. Real Phone Tracking via IMEI Or Phone Number:
There is a highly secure, programmable method to track a phone using its IMEI number (in cases of theft) or phone number (for police investigations). This method can reveal the exact coordinates of the phone, details of any new SIM cards inserted, call logs, and recent messages. However, this is classified and only accessible through official channels.

Disclaimer: I do not train anyone on how to track phones or devices. If I ever track a device, it’s done through the proper authorities, requiring a valid police report and referral from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
