Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has declared that no citizen of Kogi State should go to bed hungry under his watch as the Governor of the state.

Governor Ododo made the declaration at the official flag off of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Food Outreach Programme in Lokoja on Monday.


Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to food security, emphasizing that Kogi State will not only support the federal government’s intervention but also expand its own quarterly food distribution programme to reach more vulnerable households in the state.

He described the Food Outreach programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative as a “timely and compassionate” intervention that aligns with the vision of the Kogi State government to uplift citizens struggling with economic hardship.

Governor Ododo also reiterated his broader commitment to women and youth empowerment, noting that Kogi State has already surpassed the 35% affirmative action for women inclusion in government appointments and elective positions, adding that his administration will continue to implement economic policies that uplift its citizens.

He urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, assuring that Kogi State remains fully aligned with the federal government’s economic recovery and social welfare programmes.

On her part, Hajia Nana Shettima, Wife of the Vice President, who represented the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the event, emphasized the need for the food items to reach the intended beneficiaries.

She warned against reselling the supplies and encouraged recipients to utilize the support effectively to improve their well-being.

"This initiative is not just about food; it is about restoring dignity, giving hope, and providing relief to the most vulnerable among us," she stated.

Shettima noted that the RHI Food Outreach Programme programme has already impacted citizens in multiple states, with plans for further expansion.

"Other components of the initiative include grants for People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), climate change awareness programmes for students, and the ‘Flow with Confidence’ Initiative, which provides sanitary wears to young girls in rural areas to support school attendance," she added.

Earlier, Kogi State First Lady and RHI State Coordinator, Hajia Safinat Usman Ododo, commended the First Lady’s intervention for her role in easing the hardships faced by the less privileged in the state.

She reiterated the dedication of Kogi women to national development efforts and pledged to collaborate with communities to address their needs effectively.

Spearheaded by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to combat hunger and provide relief to vulnerable Nigerians, the Renewed Hope Initiative Food Outreach Programme is aimed at providing food interventions for vulnerable groups in communities across the states of the federation.

Kogi Govt. Secures 500 Million Dollars to Fund Education, Healthcare

The Kogi State is set to receive enhanced funding of 500 million dollars from the World Bank to improve access to high quality basic education and Primary Healthcare Services in the state.

The Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Honourable Asiwaju Idris disclosed this at a Citizens' Sensitization Programme held at the Government House in Lokoja on Thursday.

He noted that the World Bank assisted Programme under the HOPE-GOV initiative will avail the state of over 500 million dollars in enhanced funding to strengthen basic education and Primary healthcare services in the state.

He added that Education and Healthcare are the pillars upon which a productive, innovative and resilient society is built upon, stressing that improved funding for education and healthcare which are two indices of human capital development is critical for accelerating progress and inclusive growth in the state.

The State Accountant General and World Bank Fiscal Focal Person, Dr. Habibat Tijani, emphasized that the HOPE-GOV initiative will support the efforts of the state government to enhance fiscal transparency, improve budget credibility, and ensure accountability in the use of funds for policies and programmes of the state government.

She noted that the initiative will increase the availability and effectiveness of financing for education and healthcare, improve recruitment and performance of teachers and healthcare workers in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Honorable Wemi Jones lauded the initiative and commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo's efforts in repositioning the education sector in the state adding that over ₦1.2 billion has been allocated for external examination fees of pupils and students in primary and secondary schools by the present administration.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams noted that the Hope-Gov initiative is set to revolutionize healthcare service delivery and promote access to essential healthcare services in the state.

World Radio Day: GOVERNOR ODODO CELEBRATES CONTRIBUTION OF RADIO TO DEMOCRACY, ASSURES OF INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE


Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has praised the contribution of radio to the deepening of democratic culture in Nigeria as the world celebrates this year’s World Radio Day.

Governor Ododo also used the occasion to restate his administration’s commitment to promoting inclusion in governance and leaving no voices unheard in the governance of the state.

He demonstrated this by ensuring the participation of youth, women, people living with disabilities and all stakeholders from different ethnic, religious and political affiliations in the administration, he said.

GOV. ODODO CALLS FOR IMPROVED COLLABORATION AMONG SECURITY AGENCIES TO DEFEAT CRIMINALS

The Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has called for deeper collaboration among security agencies operating in the state to advance the administration’s zero tolerance for crime in all parts of the state.

Governor Ododo disclosed this during a meeting with Local Government Chairmen, members of the state's vigilante service and professional hunters at the Government House in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo emphasized the need for local government chairmen, community leaders and security operatives to work together towards ensuring a safer environment for citizens in the state.

The meeting centered on evolving new strategies for improving community safety, enhancing coordination among security agencies, and reinforcing the role of local stakeholders in the fight against crime in the state.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, Chairman of Yagba West local government area, Tosin Olokun who doubles as the chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, noted that Governor Ododo’s move to engage local government officials, vigilantes service members and professional hunters is a crucial step in enhancing grassroots security efforts and building needed synergy in the state’s security architecture particularly in remote areas where the presence of conventional security agencies may be limited.

Recall that the Kogi state government had reengineered the vigilante service and professional hunters by making them increasingly pivotal in maintaining security of lives and property at the grassroots level with enhanced welfare package that is helping the government to combat operational challenges among security operatives in the state.

“Governor Ododo is committed to Media training for effective public policy communication- Spokesman

Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, Ismaila Isah has said the state government is committed to building capacity of the government’s media team for effective public policy communication.

Hon. Isah stated this at a specialized training for members of the government house media team on innovation in public policy communication held at the Government House Media Centre in Lokoja.


He noted that the training is part of efforts to enhance public policy communication and foster transparency and accountability in governance in commemoration of the first anniversary of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in office as the Governor of Kogi state.

He said the session which brought together members of the Government House Media Team and the media team from the Office of the First Lady, would help to improve strategic communication skills among members of the team.


He expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo for prioritizing capacity building by the media team and other officials of the present administration to enhance their capacity to deliver on key performance indicators set by the administration.

He noted that training session has fulfilled one of the mandate of his office to expose members of the team to global best practices in communication deliverables for the government.

He emphasized the desire of the administration of Governor Ododo to build trust and acceptance by investing in capacity building for the government’s media team and to enhance performance in public policy communication.

“Innovation in Public Policy Communication: Leveraging the Six Levers of Influence for Effective Public Policy Messaging”,
Prof. Adams Adeiza, an Associate Professor at Sunway University in Malaysia emphasized the critical role of media professionals in shaping public perception and ensuring that government policies and programmes are effectively communicated.

He commended the media team for their synergy, attributing it to the Ododo-led administration’s commitment to fostering collaboration and professionalism.

The facilitator further highlighted the power of emotional appeal in public messaging, explaining that people primarily make decisions based on emotions rather than logic.

Prof. Adeiza had earlier engaged senior civil servants at the Office of the Head of Service where discussions centered on strategies for revitalizing the state public service for efficiency.

Ajaokuta LNG Plants Will Position Kogi as a Key Player in Nigeria’s Energy Sector – Governor Ododo

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has said the establishment of five Mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta by the Federal Government through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and its private sector partners will strategically position Kogi as an energy hub in Nigeria.

Governor Ododo made this statement on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the LNG plants in Ajaokuta where he emphasized that the project will play a pivotal role in enhancing Nigeria’s energy landscape, fostering economic growth, improving energy access, and reinforcing Kogi State’s significance in the country’s industrial development

Governor Ododo described the LNG plants as a transformative investment that will not only position Kogi as an energy hub but also stimulate economic activities in the state.

“We are witnessing a historic moment that will redefine Kogi’s place in Nigeria’s energy sector.

This project is not just about gas production; it is about economic transformation, job creation, and ensuring that our state plays a central role in Nigeria’s energy future,” Governor Ododo stated.

He underscored the economic impact of the initiative, highlighting its potential for job creation, increased investment, and industrial growth, stressing that his administration’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce will find through expression in opportunities being created by new investment in the emerging energy sector.

Governor Ododo commended President Bola Tinubu for his dedication to Nigeria’s energy transition and for mobilizing NNPC Limited and its private sector partners including Prime LNG, NGML/GASNEXUS LNG, LNG Arete, Highland LNG, and BUA LNG to establish the LNG plants in Ajaokuta.

He expressed optimism that the LNG plants will become a crucial part of Kogi’s energy infrastructure, significantly reducing carbon emissions while advancing sustainable energy solutions in Kogi state and Nigeria.

“With an initial combined production capacity of over 80 million cubic feet per day, these plants will serve as a key resource for both national and international energy markets,” Governor Ododo added.

He described the project as a landmark achievement that aligns with his administration’s vision of transforming Kogi into a leading energy and industrial hub in Nigeria.

Governor Ododo further assured that his government remains committed to providing an enabling environment, sustaining peace and security, and attracting more investments to the state.

Earlier, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mele Kyari, emphasized that the LNG plants are part of the Federal Government’s strategy to revolutionize the gas sector, positioning it as a key driver of economic prosperity.

Kyari noted that this initiative is not just a symbolic event but a concrete step towards energy transformation, stressing that all necessary equipment are ready for immediate deployment with assurance that the project would be completed on schedule in partnership with relevant stakeholders.

Kyari further commended Governor Ododo for mobilizing support from host communities, recognizing them as the first beneficiaries of the initiative.

The project, spearheaded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited in collaboration with private sector partners, aims to enhance domestic gas supply, drive industrialization, and create employment opportunities.


Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpo Ekpo, credited President Tinubu’s executive order for fast-tracking the development of the LNG plants.
He emphasized that the project is a direct response to the federal government’s push to maximize Nigeria’s gas potential and support industrialization efforts.

Similarly, Minister for Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, noted that the LNG initiative aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to create a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

KOGI GOVERNMENT TO SPEND OVER 4 BILLION NAIRA ON MALARIA PREVENTION


The Kogi State Government is to spend over ₦4 Billion(Four Billion Naira) on malaria prevention across its healthcare system in the state.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo made this known at the launch of a malaria prevention campaign to combat the prevalence of the disease with the distribution of free drugs and test-kits across healthcare facilities in the state.

Speaking at the Government House in Lokoja on Tuesday, Governor Ododo announced that the distribution of anti-malaria drugs, rapid diagnostic test kits, and over 3 million insecticide-treated nets to healthcare facilities is in line with the commitment of his administration to promote healthy living and the wellbeing of the people of the state.


He emphasized that malaria affects everyone and called for collective efforts to eradicate the disease, which he noted continues to claim the lives of thousands of people in Nigeria.

Governor Ododo also highlighted alarming statistics from the 2024 World Malaria Report, which revealed that "Africa accounted for 94% of global malaria cases in 2023, with Nigeria contributing 30% of the 5,970 deaths recorded.

He further noted Kogi State’s malaria prevalence of 16% exceeds the national target of less than 10%, necessitating urgent intervention by all stakeholders.

The governor stressed the importance of ensuring that these supplies get to communities and people for which they are meant to improve health outcomes, noting that the items are not for sale and anyone found guilty of diverting them will be held accountable.


According to the Governor, the intervention, supported by the Islamic Development Bank, includes over 10,000 cartons of anti-malaria drugs and test kits containing more than 1 million doses for children and nearly 2 million doses for adults, adding that the supplies will be distributed to 536 government health facilities across the state, including primary healthcare centers, general hospitals, and teaching hospitals.

Governor Ododo commended healthcare workers in the state for their efforts in improving healthcare outcomes in rural areas, describing them as soldiers battling diseases on the frontlines.

He urged traditional rulers, NGOs, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to join hands with the government in ensuring the success of the initiative.


The Governor further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector as a critical pillar of the development agenda of the Kogi state government under his leadership.


He expressed confidence that the initiative, alongside federal government healthcare reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would significantly reduce malaria prevalence and improve the quality of lives of the people of Kogi State.

Earlier, the commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams emphasized the importance of the malaria prevention programme which he said is to ensure that every household has access to malaria test kits, drugs, insecticide-treated nets, and other preventive measures.

He noted that the intervention is free and focuses on community engagement, describing it as a comprehensive strategy to combat malaria effectively across Kogi State.

Governor Ododo Restates Commitment to Welfare of Orphans, flags off GOOS-Care Initiative



Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and education of orphaned students in the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the Governor Ododo Orphan Students Care (GOOS-Care) initiative, organized by the Kogi State Forum of Local Government Special Assistants in Lokoja, the governor emphasized his stance that no child in the state should feel abandoned or forgotten as a result of death or financial condition of their parents or guardians.

"You are not orphans as far as we have God Almighty," the governor said, urging the benefiting students to believe in themselves and avoid tendencies to succumb to emotional setbacks.

Governor Ododo who commended the Forum of Local Government Special Assistants for their proactive efforts, described the initiative as a testament to the success of his administration’s policy to take governance to the grassroots.

"What you are doing here today shows we never made any mistake in our decisions because this government is for the people," he stated.

The Governor emphasized that his administration is focused on collective responsibility in governance, stressing that leaders should prioritize service to the people at all times.

Speaking further, Governor Ododo assured the forum of LSAs of his administration’s commitment to addressing issues related to outstanding appointments within the ranks of grassroots supporters of the government.

He enjoined members of the forum and benefiting students to remain steadfast, emphasizing that their efforts today would shape a brighter tomorrow.

Governor Ododo is Wooing Investors To Kogi - Media Aide

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has been making efforts to woo investors to develop the solid mineral resources in the State.

Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah made this known on Monday while speaking on a Radio Interview Programme on Classic FM 94.3 Abuja as part of Media Engagements ahead of the first one year in office of the Governor.

Hon. Ismaila noted that the Governor, who is the State’s Chief Marketing Officer is working hard to engage relevant Federal Agencies and the International Community as well as investors in the private sector for collaboration that will ensure that the resources of Kogi are used for the development of the State.

According to him, the Governor has been reaching out to illustrious sons and daughters of the state on the need to invest in Kogi state, pointing out that the discussions are already yielding positive results.

He maintained that with efforts of Governor Ododo, the establishment of an Industrial Park with the status of Free Trade Zone in the State is already in the pipeline, Kogi State International Airport has been approved by the Federal Government, MoU has been signed with NEXIM Bank for development of processing facilities for agricultural products for export of and local industries among others.

The Governor's Spokesman said prices of food items are now crashing in the state compared to the past, explaining that crop processing facilities have been provided as the government has been encouraging farming by buying directly from farmers.

On security of lives and property, the Special Adviser noted that a lot has been invested in the security sector which has produced positive results.

He stated that apart from the purchase of gadgets as well as hundreds of vehicles and motorcycles for hunters, vigilantes and conventional security agencies , the government is also in constant touch with neighbouring states in a bid to take the fight against crimes and criminality to hideouts of criminals in and around the state.

Hon. Isah reaffirmed that Governor Ododo meant well for the Education Sector, hence the release of over N600 million for the payment of WAEC fees, restructuring of the Bursary Programme for indigent students in tertiary institutions, free education from primary to secondary schools in public schools just to mention but a few.

He added that one unique achievement of the present administration in the state is the completion of projects inherited from the immediate past administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello as it is a deliberate effort to avoid the scourge of project abandonment in the state.

Such projects according to him are the 9 kilometer GYB Junction-Zango-Zone 8 round about road and 5.5 kilometer Crusher-Zone 8 round about road which has been completed and awaiting commissioning.

Governor Ododo to NASRDA: Support our efforts in security, agriculture, land reforms, others

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has urged the management of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to complement efforts by his administration to combat insecurity, improve agriculture and food security, fast track land reforms and support development in other critical sectors using existing space technology and innovative capabilities of the agency.

Governor Ododo stated this during a meeting with the Director General of NASRDA, Dr. Mathew Olumide Adepoju on Monday.

The Kogi State Governor who was in the company of some senior officials of the government assured that the state government is committed to ensuring partnership with NASRDA to improve the state’s Geographic Information System to facilitate land reforms, promote agriculture and food sufficiency, security of lives and property and other critical sectors of the state’s economy.

While acknowledging the state of technology and innovative endowment available at NASRDA, Governor Ododo called on the leadership of the agency to ensure collaboration with the Kogi state government by providing needed assistance to enhance development in the areas already enumerated in the Memorandum of Understanding between the agency and the state government signed late last year in Lokoja in critical sectors.

In his remarks, the Director General of NASRDA, Dr. Mathew Olumide Adepoju commended Governor Ododo for the level of infrastructural development and other achievements recorded within one year of his administration in Kogi state.

He thanked the Governor for adopting space technology as a way of combating insecurity and promoting development in different sectors of the state’s economy, assuring that the partnership between NASRDA and the Kogi state government will be sustained in the interest of the country and the people of Kogi state.

Governor Ododo Promises Sweeping Reforms in State Healthcare System



Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has unveiled ambitious reforms aimed at revolutionizing the state's primary healthcare system to deliver high quality and accessible healthcare services.

Speaking at a stakeholders' engagement on primary healthcare revitalization held in Lokoja, Governor Ododo, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, announced the introduction of periodic spot checks on all Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. This initiative, led by the Primary Healthcare Task Force in collaboration with local government authorities and traditional rulers, is designed to ensure accountability, enhance coordination, and elevate the standard of services provided by PHCs.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services, Governor Ododo highlighted the critical role of PHCs in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, boosting immunization coverage, and raising awareness about the importance of primary healthcare in the state's healthcare value chain.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo disclosed this at a ceremony held at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in Felele, Lokoja to officially hand over sites of the 88 additional Primary Healthcare Centres to contractors by the state government for revitalization across the state.

Governor Ododo who was represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams noted that the revitalization of the new set of 88 Primary Healthcare Centres follows the commencement of the revitalization of over 70 Primary Healthcare Centres which are already at various stages of completion following approval by the state government in March, 2024.

He noted that the revamping of the Primary Healthcare Centres which will upgrade over 150 of such institutions in the state to functional level-2 health facilities reflects the commitment of the present administration to enhance access to healthcare delivery across the state.


He added that the upgrade of primary healthcare facilities is part of the strategic plan of the Kogi State government to improve access to quality healthcare services in all parts of the state with support by the World Bank.

“As we step into the New Year 2025, we are proud to launch a groundbreaking initiative—the upgrade of 88 additional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state, complementing the ongoing upgrade of 70 PHCs to functional Level-2 facilities.

“This marks another bold step towards achieving effective healthcare delivery and universal health coverage for our people.

“With the invaluable support of the World Bank, the Kogi State Government has committed over ₦7 billion to this project, a testament to our unwavering dedication to improving the lives of our citizens”, Governor Ododo said.

Governor Ododo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership that accords utmost priority to the wellbeing of ordinary Nigerians through enhanced access to healthcare especially for people at the grassroots level.

He also acknowledged efforts by the immediate past administration of former Governor Yahaha Bello for laying a solid foundation in the health sector in the state.

He called on the contractors to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism in the execution of the projects and to ensure timely completion of all the projects within four months.

The Governor who urged the contractors to engage with the local government authorities and stakeholders in the communities for inclusive approach towards social and environmental safeguards in project implementation also called on the local authorities and stakeholders in all communities where the projects have been sited to take ownership and ensure adequate protection of personnel, equipment and the Primary Healthcare Centres when completed.

He also called for effective supervision of the projects by all relevant authorities of the government under the coordination of the state ministry of health.

Insecurity: Ododo Taking Fight to Criminal Hideouts – Spokesman

Kogi state government will no longer sit back and wait for criminals to attack its citizens before reacting.

Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Media, Ismaila Isah, made this known while featuring on a TrustTV News programme, Daily Politics, on Tuesday.

He said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has embarked on direct, consistent offensive against criminal elements within and around the state.

The Governor’s spokesman said regardless of recent security breaches, Kogi is faring better in the fight against crimes.

"Instead of waiting for the bad guys to come to us, we are probably the only state in Nigeria that has decided to consistently take the fight to the bad guys in their hideouts.

“As I speak, we have continued to engage in clearance operations across the state, especially along borders with Kwara, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Benue, Ondo and other states we share borders with. We are bordered by nine states, including the FCT.

“So, we continue to take the fight to these criminals in the bush. That has been very consistent.

“One thing we have also done very well, whenever we want to embark on these operations, we contact governors of these neighbouring states so they can join us in effort s to rid the borders of criminals. These guys do hibernate around the forest then come out to hurt our people, so, we have been consistent with this. So far, the operations have been quite successful.

“We have had a strategic relationship with the office of NSA, Nigeria military and other security agencies.

“Recall that earlier in the life of the administration, we provided logistics for security agencies - well over 300 vehicles, motorcycles in hundreds and we also recruited almost 3,000 vigilante and local hunters. The vigilante group has been reorganized and reenergized. They currently earn above the minimum wage in the state,” he said.

Isah commended the immediate past administration in the state for solidifying security architecture that changed the security narrative about Kogi state.

“We must give credit to the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello who ensured that the security architecture of the state was overhauled and made it very robust to the extent that he was adjudged best Governor of the year in terms of security back to back for about two or three years.

“That security architecture has been largely consolidated upon by the current government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and we are assuring that we will continue to build on that,” he added.

Our collaboration with security agencies, the Governor’s spokesman noted that the leadership of all military and paramilitary heads in Kogi are comfortable with leadership of Governor Usman Ododo.

He stated that heads of security agencies in Kogi have shown unparalleled patriotism in the discharge of their duties.

"I have seen some of them in action. They are among the best and most courageous set of security operatives we have in Nigeria. They are ready to out their lives on the line at all times to make sure our people are safe and secured.”

On the reported banning of mining activities in the state, Isah clarified that what Kogi state government did was to suspend licensing by local communities.

He explained that the state government took the decision then because of the nefarious activities of illegal miners in the state, and the security implications for mining communities.

“Government suspended licensing to restore sanity in the extractive sector and now, we are ready to welcome to investors.”

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has been described as a proactive leader who has learnt well about governance and administration.


Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Media, Ismaila Isah, made this known while featuring on KAFTANTV’s live programme, The Polity, on Tuesday.

Isah stated that Ododo came on board as the most prepared Governor of the state, having learnt a lot while serving under the immediate past administration in the state.

He said Governor Ododo has assuaged tensions that arose during the last election in the state by sticking to his campaign promise to unite the state.

Responding to insinuations that Governor Ododo is living in the shadows of his predecessor, Isah asserted that despite the administration’s commitment to continuity, the incumbent Governor has shown that he is a man of his own.

He added that going by the policies and programmes of the current administration, it is clear that Governor Ododo is committed to charting his own course.

He explained that most of the policies of the Ododo-led administration is a departure from what was obtainable in the past. Citing the agriculture and food security policy of Governor Ododo, the Spokesman said much is been done differently.

He added that the current administration has shown interest in tourism and extractive sectors of the state economy with a touch of difference.

“Our tourism potentials are largely untapped. The Ododo-led government has created a system to ensure development of all sectors are linked, not done in isolation,” he said.

Isah pointed out that with the successful hosting of Kogi international carnival and ongoing engagement with investors, the tourism sector is set for take-off.

He added that the rich cultural heritage of the state is getting attention, and expressed optimism that several community cultural festivals and events will be modernized.

Speaking on the abundant mineral deposits in the state, Isah said the state government has stepped up engagement with federal government and investors.

He said the approach is, however, different under the current administration as Governor Ododo wants a shift from mining solely for exports to production for local use and jobs creation.

“We have about 32 minerals in commercial deposits across all LGAs in the state. We are working with FG to attract mining investors

“Instead of mining solely for export, we are looking at investors that will establish factories and processing companies here in Kogi.

‘Recently, Governor Ododo had a meeting with the Chinese Consular General and one of the takeaways from that engagement was investment in solid minerals. We are more interested in creating more opportunities for our people,” he said.

On the upcoming celebration of Governor Ododo’s one year in office, the media adviser said the occasion will be more of getting feedbacks from the people and identifying areas where the government can build on.

GOVERNOR ODODO PRESENTS N3 BILLION TO 80 COMMUNITIES IN KOGI STATE


Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has presented the sum of three billion Naira (3,000,000,000) to over 2,381 direct beneficiaries in over 170 groups from 80 communities impacted by climate change under the Community Revolving Fund of the Agro-climate Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in partnership with the World Bank Group.

Performing the presentation of cheques at the Government House in Lokoja on Monday, Governor Ododo said the Community Revolving Fund is in line with his administration’s commitment to ensure food security and sustainable agricultural practices in the State.

Governor Ododo who assured that the Kogi State government will continue to provide enabling environment for the success and sustenance of the ACReSAL project, noted that the effort is in furtherance of the development agenda of the state to increase the adoption of sustainable landscape management, and to strengthen the long-term framework for integrated climate resilience landscape management and effective agricultural practices across communities in the 21 local government areas in the state.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for according priority to sustainable agriculture practice and for the unwavering commitment to enhance the welfare of families in all parts of Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun in his speech , said the Community Revolving Fund seeks to place Kogi state on the map of states where food security and sufficiency are guaranteed in Nigeria.

The Governor urged the benefiting groups and communities to utilize the fund with diligence and to demonstrate ability to ensure that other members of the community continue to benefit from the project.

Earlier in her address, the State Coordinator of AcreSal, Barrister Ladi Ahmed Jatto said the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) is an interest-free investment fund which began with the first phase of its disbursement in June 2024 with over 2,381 direct beneficiaries.

She emphasized that the second phase of the disbursement is a justification of the effective utilization of the first phase and the overall performance of the Kogi state government as adjudged by the World Bank Task Team.

She called on beneficiaries to make the best use of the fund, adding that the fund is a loan from the World Bank under guaranteed repayment by the state government.

GOVERNOR ODODO SYMPATHISES WITH VICTIMS OF BOAT MISHAP

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has sympathized with victims of the recent boat mishap that claimed the lives of some passengers who are indigenes of Kogi State.

Governor Ododo who expressed sadness over the boat accident said he was particularly concerned that most of the victims were women, petty traders and artisans who are involved in legitimate business activities to earn a living and contribute to the economy of the state.

The Governor noted that the waterway linking Kogi and Niger state was becoming increasingly dangerous as a result of frequent boat accidents and called on relevant authorities to ensure that safety measures are put in place to minimize risks associated with water transportation in the country.

Governor Ododo who commended the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for its efforts in search and rescue operation, called for concerted efforts through inter-agency collaboration to prevent cases of waterways accident and to enhance emergency response management.

Governor Ododo commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and assured that the government will support those injured in their recuperations.

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) had on Friday confirmed that some traders who were on their way to the Katcha weekly market in Niger State were killed while others sustained injuries when the boat coveying them from Kogi state capsided along the Dambo-Ebuchi sections of the River Niger.

He called on the people of Ondo state to support Governor Aiyedatiwa as he is set to begin his full term in office as the governor of the state from February, 2025.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was declared winner of the November 16, 2024 Ondo State Governorship having scored 366, 781 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Honourable Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party who scored 117, 845 votes.

Ahead of the November 16 Governorship election in Ondo state, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has called on members of Ebira community in the state to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to sustain the laudable achievements of the APC government in the state.

Governor Ododo who is the deputy chairman of the election management and strategy committee of the Ondo State Governorship Election Campaign Council made the call while addressing a mammoth crowd at the APC rally held at the Mobil Roundabout in Owo town on Saturday.

The Governor described Ondo state as a second home for Ebiras and urged the Ebira community to repeat the feat exemplified in the 2020 Governorship election during which the APC recorded overwhelming victory in the state.

“I have come to thank you for the support you gave the APC in the last governorship election in Ondo state.

“I am aware that we have a large population of our people in Owo, Ifo and Ose local government areas, as well as other parts of Ondo state and I want you to take our message to all of them.

OIL EXPLORATION: Governor Ododo Seeks Partnership to accelerate investment

...as FG reaffirms Kogi an oil producing state

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has called for collaboration between the state and the federal government towards accelerating investment in the exploration of oil resources in the state.

Governor Ododo made the call on Thursday, when he paid a working visit to the minister of state petroleum resources (oil) Senator Heineken Lokpobiri in Abuja.

While restating his administration’s commitment to providing enabling environment for investors and their investments, Governor Ododo expressed willingness of the Kogi State government to cooperate with the federal government to ensure that oil exploration in the state comes on stream in line with the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pursue oil exploration in the frontier basins in Nigeria.

On his part, the minister of state for petroleum resources (oil) Senator Heineken Lokpobiri reaffirmed the status of Kogi as an oil producing state and pledged the commitment of the federal government towards mobilizing investments to explore the huge oil deposits in Kogi State.

The minister stated that the Petroleum Industry Act mandates the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to explore frontier basins and pledged the federal government’s determination to deploy funds to unlock new discoveries and exploration of oil in Nigeria.

The minister also commended Governor Ododo for his giant strides in providing good governance to the people of the state.

Kogi State became the first oil producing state in Northern Nigeria following the affirmation of the discovery of oil in commercial quantities by the federal government in 2022.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has sworn in newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 21 local government areas in Kogi State
with a charge to be dedicated in serving the people they represent.

At a ceremony held at the Banquet Hall in Government House Lokoja, the elected chairmen and vice chairmen from the 21 local government areas were seated as early as 8.am and joined by the Governor as the ceremony got underway.

Governor Ododo who presided over the swearing-in ceremony urged the new chairmen to sustain the tempo of development at the grassroots level by embarking on projects and programmes that will improve the lives of the people.

He charged the new local government chairmen to ensure security of lives and property and key into signature programmes of the administration in the areas of health, agriculture, social welfare and empowerment initiatives to transform the lives of the people in their respective local government areas.

The Governor who described the local government as the most important tier of government and the closest to the people also enjoined the new council chairmen to ensure that the people are carried along in all their activities and to promote inclusion of all stakeholders in decision making process.

He noted that the local government administration should not only be seen but must be felt by the people in line with the policy of his administration to bring governance closer to the people.

Governor Ododo also called on the new local government chairmen to be transparent and accountable in running the affairs of the local government, stressing that they must see their election as an opportunity to justify the autonomy of the local government administration by according priorities to matters that have direct positive impact on the lives of the people at the grassroots.

In response, the chairman of Yagba West local government area, Honourable Tosin Olokun, who spoke on behalf of the 21 local government chairmen assured of their commitment to complement the efforts of the state government by embarking on projects and programmes that will transform the lives of the people at the grassroots.

He also promised to unite the people irrespective of political differences in line with the agenda of the state government under Governor Ododo to unite the people of the state and focus more on development.

GOVERNOR ODODO FLAGS OFF 20KM OBAJANA-URO-AKU RURAL ROAD

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has flagged off construction of the 20KM Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road linking parts of Lokoja and Adavi local government areas.

The project is part of interventions by the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) supported by the World Bank Group and other stakeholders in the agricultural development value chain and it is the first phase of the over 65KM network of rural roads in the state intended to create access to farms, farming communities and markets to ensure food security in the state.

Governor Ododo who performed the Flag-off at a ceremony in Apata near Obajana emphasized the pivotal role of rural roads in the development agenda of his administration, adding that the rural roads will not only enhance transportation but also serve as catalyst for rural economic growth and food security in the state.

He noted that the roads will also provide access and connectivity to farmers and traders as part of his administration’s broader strategy to enhance rural development and bring governance closer to people in local communities.

While appealing to benefiting communities to take ownership of the project, Governor Ododo gave a stern warning to contractors handling the project not to divert project funds, urging them to demonstrate high level of integrity and professionalism in project delivery.

On his part, the State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed said the project is meant to benefit farmers especially by reducing cost of transportation and accessibility for both farmers and traders in the state.

In his remarks, the National Co-ordinator of RAAMP, Engineer Aminu Bodinga represented by Mrs Joy Amadi commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering commitment to rural development which she noted would enhance connectivity and access to markets, social services and opportunities that were previously out of reach by rural dwellers.

Similarly, the State Coordinator of the project, Sheidu Obansa says the network of rural roads will expose the communities to opportunities and promote agricultural development in the state.

Speaking on the development, the Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Adoga Baiyerohi who commended Governor Ododo on the road project, noted that the project will enhance agricultural development and will also reduce vehicular traffic along Obajana road.

Other traditional rulers who spoke on the development commended Governor Ododo for the initiative to help rural dwellers who are mostly farmers and traders in the state.

Governor Ododo Commends Lugard TV for Professional Excellence

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended the professional excellence of Lugard TV, praising the operation of the media team of the government for living up to the high expectation of the people of the state.

The Governor, who was accompanied by the House of Representatives member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Honourable Leke Abejide alongside several commissioners and top government officials, expressed satisfaction with the performance of Lugard TV during a tour of the facility which is the second time the Governor has visited the Government House Media Centre.

Governor Ododo, impressed by the level of professionalism and dedication exhibited by the staff of Lugard TV, lauded their efforts and expressed confidence in their capacity to deliver quality content and information to propagate the policies and programmes of the State.


On his part, Hon. Leke Abejide who was impressed by the activities of Lugard TV echoed the sentiment of the Governor highlighting the importance of the media outlet in promoting the development agenda of the state.


The visit served as a morale booster for the team, reinforcing the commitment of the state government to supporting local media institutions.

Governor Ododo Advocates Adherence to Tenets of Autonomy, Ethics in LG Administration

The Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has urged Directors of Local Government and Treasurers to uphold the tenets of local government autonomy and professional ethics in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Governor Ododo stated this at an interactive session with the forum of Directors of Local Government and Treasurers at the Government House in Lokoja.

The Governor who charged the local government administrators to see themselves as representatives of the government at the grassroots noted that their performance as top civil servants will strengthen relationship between the government and the people and bring about more development in local government administration.

Governor Ododo commended the resilience and productivity of the DLGs and Treasurers, stressing that their importance in ensuring accurate records and upholding professional ethics, particularly among accountants in the public sector is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.

While urging the DLGs to support treasurers in addressing challenges in local government administration, Governor Ododo called for unity among officials, encouraging them to rally round the Accountant General of the state, Habiba Onumoko to ensure the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Aliyu Umar commended Governor Ododo's transparency and accountability as a leader and promised that the legislature will continue to support the Governor in his efforts to take governance closer to the people at the grassroots.


In her welcome address, Kogi State Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko highlighted Governor Ododo’s contributions to grassroots development, empowerment of youth and women and employment opportunities as well as appointment into government positions, describing the Governor as a man of impact and an embodiment of humility.

The chairman of the forum of DLGs in Kogi State, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, expressed gratitude to the governor for the approval of 72,500 minimum wage for workers in the state and other initiatives which he noted have enhanced the welfare of civil servants in the state.

He also commended the Accountant General of the state for her guidance and professionalism in the discharge of her responsibilities.

GOVERNOR ODODO ANNOUNCES NEW MINIMUM WAGE OF SEVENTY-TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED NAIRA

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has announced the immediate implementation of a new minimum wage of seventy-two thousand, five hundred NAIRA for all civil servants in the state workforce.

Governor Ododo disclosed this at a meeting with the leadership of labour unions under the Joint Civil Service Negotiating Council at the Government House in Lokoja.

The new minimum wage takes immediate effect and it excludes all tax burden on the civil servants in the light of consequential adjustments for a period of one year.

The Governor noted that the agreement on the new minimum wage between government and the labour unions in the state underscores the designation of his administration as a labour-friendly government, a position he noted is buttressed by the nomination and election of Mr. Joel Salifu, the former chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers in Kogi state as the deputy governor of the state.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Implementation Committee on the new minimum wage and Kogi State Head of Service, Mr. Elijah Evinemi said the report on the new minimum wage is the result of the painstaking efforts of all members of the committee and labour leaders in the state who are committed to the well-being of civil servants in the state.

In his remarks, the special adviser on labour matters to the Governor, Comrade Onuh Edoka said the administration of Governor Ododo has demonstrated unalloyed commitment to the welfare of workers in the state with the approvals of the minimum wage.

He called on all Kogi Workers and labour unions in the state to give total support to the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for implementing the new minimum wage within his short time in office.

The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Amari Gabriel noted that the implementation of the new minimum wage shows the commitment of Governor Ododo to the welfare of workers in the state.

He noted that the new minimum wage is a testament to the progressive ideals and labour-friendly nature of the governor.

The state chairman of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Suleiman Tijani also commended Governor Ododo for implementing the new minimum wage.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for prioritizing the welfare of workers in the state.

The chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Segun Alemeru appealed to civil servants in the state to further increase their productivity in line with the implementation of the new minimum wage by the state government.

It will be recalled that Governor Ododo inaugurated the implementation committee on the new minimum wage on the 17th of September, 2024 with a directive to the committee to conclude its assignment within four weeks.

GOVERNOR ODODO VOWS TO SUSTAIN CLEARANCE OPERATION TO DEFEAT CRIMINALS IN KOGI

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to sustain on-going clearance operation to defeat criminals in all parts of the state.

The Governor gave the assurance at the commencement of distribution of the second batch of 100 operational vehicles to security agencies at the government house in Lokoja.

The Kogi State Governor, assured that the state government will continue to deepen its fight against insecurity and criminality in the state.

He affirmed the dedication of his administration towards improving the security architecture of the state which he noted has resulted in the distribution of hundreds of operational vehicles to security agencies to enhance their capacity and operational efficiency against criminal elements in the state.

He explained that his administration would strive to make Kogi state unbearable and unsafe for criminals to operate.

In his opening remarks, the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Retired) said the distribution of vehicles to security agencies is aimed at providing support to security officers in the ongoing clearance operations across the state, stressing that the gesture is consistent with the determination of the state government to ensure security of lives and property in every part of the state.

On his part, the Kogi state Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha thanked Governor Ododo for his commitment towards securing lives and property of people in the state adding that the vehicles will be used for the onslaught against criminals and criminalities in the state.

Earlier at a press briefing, the commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo stated that the state government at its executive council meeting resolved to take drastic measures against criminal elements to preserve law and order and guarantee the security of the people of the state adding that nothing will be spared to protect the lives and property of the people of Kogi State.

FULL TEXT OF ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, GOVERNOR AHMED USMAN ODODO OF KOGI STATE TO THE STATE TO COMMEMORATE NIGERIA’S 64TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY, THIS 1ST DAY OF OCTOBER, 2024

Fellow Kogites, my dear compatriots,

It is with great joy that I address you today on this special occasion of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary. I join millions of Nigerians at home and abroad in celebrating this milestone in our journey as a nation. I felicitate with the good people of Kogi State and all Nigerians as we mark 64 years of our nation’s emancipation from British colonial rule.

Today, we honor the national heroes from every corner of this great country who fought courageously for our freedom. Their sacrifices remind us that our liberty was hard-earned, and we must cherish and safeguard it. We also commend all leaders - both civilian and military - who have governed Nigeria, and those who have led us in our dear State too, since independence. Though none of them were perfect, each contributed to keeping Nigeria and Kogi State united and moving forward.

Our journey as a nation has not been without challenges. We are a country of great diversity - territories, tribes, and religions. Yet, despite this complex montage, we have maintained steady movement towards greatness. Nigeria has endured great trials, including a most regrettable civil war, but we have also risen to every occasion, growing stronger with each step forward. In the last 64 years, Nigeria has made significant strides at home and within the comity of nations. We are, without question, a nation destined for greatness.

At this critical juncture in our history, we are glad to have the leadership of our current president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to look up to. Without a doubt, President Tinubu is steering Nigeria in the right direction, ushering in a national Renaissance, especially in the ways and means by which our economy is managed.

His Excellency's administration has shown unprecedented courage in addressing long-standing structural anomalies which previous governments, fearful of the inevitable fallout, carefully avoided. The removal of fuel subsidies and the harmonization of the naira exchange rates are just two of these difficult but necessary reforms. No generation of leaders before him has squared off against these national challenges with such resolve.

We must also acknowledge that the President has not undertaken these reforms from a desire to see Nigerians suffer, but by a conviction that beyond these rocky terrains lies a better place of shared prosperity. Moreover, his efforts to cushion the impact of these reforms on Nigerians as much as possible bear witness to his good intentions. As a sitting Governor, I can testify firsthand to the President's efforts in this regard.

The Federal Government of Nigeria under him has increased monetary allocations to states like ours - by a lot, enabling us to do more for our people. He has introduced a suite of palliatives that is arguably the largest our nation has ever mobilised - to ease the burden on citizens. The expanded social safety net programme is providing critical support to millions of vulnerable Nigerians. At the same time he has pioneered novel programmes to support citizens in their endeavours - ranging from education loans and scholarships, civil service wage increases to expanded cash grant initiatives and venture capital/entrepreneurial support.

This is why I have unshakable confidence in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. His commitment to a better Nigeria is not open to debate. I urge all Nigerians to show patience, understanding, and support as these reforms take root. Though the current pains are real, they are temporary. In the long term, these bold decisions will lift our nation’s socioeconomic indices and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

As we celebrate this Independence Day, 2024 we must remind ourselves of the words of our national motto - ‘Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress’. They encapsulate our ideals as one nation and we must re-commit ourselves to them in order to stand strong even in challenging times. Here in Kogi State which is a microcosm of Nigeria, and reflects her great diversity, we also aspire to a greatness that comes from harnessing the strengths of every community and individual among us.

Here at home in Kogi State, one of our top priorities right now is to guide our people safely through the ongoing 2024 flood season. We have taken proactive steps to ensure no one is caught unprepared, yet, because some people still do not realise the potency and urgency of the danger, I must repeat our warnings for everyone below the flood-plains of the Rivers Niger and Benue to evacuate now. Do not rely on only observable rainfall patterns in your area to predict the water levels. Dams upstream are releasing water - which may cause levels to rise catastrophically here without warning. To put it simply, the floods are here already.

I however assure you that we are also in a state of maximum preparedness to respond to any incident. Our state emergency response taskfoce headed by the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu, has been at work since May this year, monitoring the situation and adjusting action in line with our own 2024 flood mitigation, adaptation, preparedness and response roadmap. We are synchronizing well with national and state emergency management agencies, as well as the various law enforcement agencies. First responders are on standby, and we have set up IDP camps in safe locations for those who may need them.

Just last weekend we took delivery of four motorized fiberglass boats donated by the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC). These boats will enhance evacuation, as well as search and rescue efforts, should the need arise. I assure all Kogites, especially in flood-prone areas, that we are doing everything possible to prevent the loss of any life and minimize the loss of properties.

Similarly, in the last nine months, while we confronted various existential challenges within the broader Nigerian context, we also worked hard indeed to expand on the development of our state. Guided by our Kogi State 32-year Transformation Plan, my administration has focused on simultaneously improving 10 key sectors that lie within the 10 thematic areas we have selected for accelerated intervention and impact. They are: Security, Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Agriculture and Social Welfare. The rest are Job Creation and Economic Diversification, Empowerment of Youth, Women and People With Special Needs, Environmental Sustainability and critically, Transparency and Accountability.

We have distributed industrial and hand-held tractors, fertilizers and other farm inputs across all 21 Local Government Areas to boost agricultural productivity. Through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, we cultivated over 7,000 hectares of farmland and launched initiatives like the "One Man, One Tree" campaign to promote environmental sustainability. Our collaboration with investors in the solid minerals sector has further expanded opportunities for economic growth. Additionally, we reduced Kogi State's domestic debt from N121 billion to about N35 billion, which earned us a Fitch Rating of ‘B-’ with Positive Outlook.

We have rehabilitated key roads, completed others and embarked on new projects - including the Zone 8-Barracks-Zango-Zariagi road and the ongoing dualization of the Zone 8-Zango-GYB Junction Road in Lokoja, our State capital. We also launched comprehensive gully erosion control projects across the Senatorial Districts to protect our environment and initiated the upgrade of Adogo airstrip to an international cargo airport. On security, we distributed 120 customised vans and 44 motorcycles to security units across the state. We also recruited hundreds of additional operatives to bolster community policing, and we are partnering with the Police and other law enforcement agencies to further strengthen our security architecture.

In healthcare and education, massive infrastructural developments and provision of equipment in existing health facilities, schools and campuses are ongoing. We have rolled out a 10-year strategic healthcare plan to ensure that quality and affordable healthcare is available to all citizens. We also expanded our Health Insurance Scheme with a free enrollment initiative for vulnerable groups to increase access. We have revitalized the Kogi State Scholarship Board, enrolled over 45,000 young Kogites across the country into our database for educational aid and by this week or next, we shall start disbursing bursaries and scholarships to them. We have also recently secured accreditation and will soon be admitting more of our children, in addition to other Nigerians, to study Medicine and Surgery at our premier STEM institution, the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.

I have also made it a priority since our inauguration on 27th January, 2024 to effect drastic improvements in the welfare of our hardworking civil servants. We have now achieved the prompt and full payment of 100% salaries to all workers - employees at state and local governments, and teachers across board. Our retirees, too, have not been left behind as we have maintained the existing payments - 100% pensions payments and the release of N100m monthly towards defraying decades worth of unpaid gratuities.

Recognizing the risks faced by health workers, in addition to promptly settling all routine financial obligations to medical doctors and other professionals in the healthcare sector, we introduced a six-month, 35% hazard allowance, and for our veterinary doctors, we adopted the CONMESS salary structure. These actions reflect my commitment to building a motivated and well-compensated workforce, both in health and across all industries. After all, our civil servants are the engine that drives our progress as a state.

This is a good place to inform Kogites officially that as part of our commitment to deepening inclusivity, we appointed 717 Ward Special Assistants (WSAs) across the state in August. This initiative ensures that our governance is truly participatory by bringing leadership closer to the grassroots. You complained that in the past officials were often disconnected from the communities they were appointed to represent, and we listened. Accordingly, the WSAs actually live and work within their respective wards, and will serve as direct links between the government and the people.

This structure not only enhances accountability and feedback but also brings added financial prudence to the mix as the combined salaries of three WSAs equate to that of one Senior Special Assistant, thus reducing the cost of governance. Through this strategy, we are empowering inhabitants of rural communities, supporting local development, and ensuring that the aspirations of our people at the grassroots have a point of contact through which they can be fully integrated into our Continuity and Consolidation Agenda.

In furtherance of our commitment to youth empowerment and self-sufficiency, I am pleased to announce the launch of the Ododo Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Programme (OYESA). This programme will commence as soon as we tidy up the modalities with our proposed partner, the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI). This flagship initiative will provide over 250 youths from all 21 Local Government Areas of Kogi State with cutting-edge training in critical areas such as CNG conversion, welding and fabrication, automobile mechatronics, solar system installation, and more.

The rationale is human capital development and the aim is to equip our youths with the skills needed to thrive in today’s economy, especially as Nigeria transitions to cleaner energy under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Beneficiaries will receive stipends, accommodation, starter packs, and business registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission to support their entrepreneurial journeys. This program is a vital step in reducing unemployment, addressing youth restiveness, and preparing our young people for meaningful contributions to society.

The foregoing achievements and many more still in the pipeline only confirm one thing: That foundations are important. I confirm that the difficult reforms undertaken by my eminent predecessor, His Excellency, former Governor Yahaya Bello, during his 8 years in Office, and the systems he set up, put us on a strong footing for the accelerated progress we are seeing now. He fought battles and planted seeds while governing this state that are only just now bearing fruit. We cannot commend and appreciate him enough.

As we move towards an era of accelerated development for our dear Kogi State on all sides, we remain firmly committed to consolidation and continuity of the gains that we have inherited and we will be working even more diligently in the months and years ahead to do more. However, I confess my great need for the support and cooperation of every one of you, my people. I humbly request for it once more, so that together, we can build a state that is safe, prosperous, inclusive, and works for all.

To conclude, I wish to remind every Kogite that our Local Government elections are slated for later this month on the 19th. We are all urged to prepare and come out in full force to cast our votes for the Chairmen and Councillors of our choice. I do not need to tell us again that this election is crucial for the continued progress of our state, especially at the grassroots where the majority of us live and do business. I also assure you that the elections will be free and fair, with no room for violence or any form of electoral malpractice. I assure us that the voice of every Kogite who is ready to exercise their franchise will be heard, and respected. Of course, I urge you to support our APC candidates for me from top to bottom, as this will allow us to build on the tremendous work we have already begun in your service.

Once more, I felicitate with my dear people of Kogi State, and all Nigerians, on this occasion of our 64th Independence Day Anniversary. May the Almighty God help our country and guide us all, leaders and followers, aright. I pray that henceforth, with each passing year, our Independence Day will be marked with true and heartfelt joy by Nigerians celebrating remarkable increase in peace, progress and prosperity for all.

GOVERNOR ODODO MOURNS AKWA IBOM FIRST LADY, PATIENCE UMO ENO


Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has commiserated with the government and people of Akwa Ibom State over the demise of the wife of the Governor, Mrs Patience Umo Eno who died on Thursday.


In a condolence message to the government and people of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Ododo expressed shock over the death of the Akwa Ibom first lady whom he noted has played a pivotal role in helping Governor Umo Eno to steady the ship of state in more than one year since the Governor assumed office.

The Kogi State Governor described Mrs Patience Umo Eno as a supporting wife, mother and grandmother whose pet projects have touched the lives of several women and vulnerable people in Akwa Ibom state.

Governor Ododo prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late Mrs Umo Eno and also prayed for God’s comfort for her immediate family and the people of Akwa Ibom State as they grieve over the loss.

The late Mrs Patience Umo Eno died on Thursday at the age of 57 after a brief illness.

GOVERNOR ODODO CONGRATULATES EDO GOVERNOR-ELECT, SENATOR OKPEBHOLO


Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and winner of the Edo State Governorship election held on Saturday September 21, 2024.

Reacting to the declaration of Senator Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, Governor Ododo praised the Edo state Governor-elect and the leadership of the party for the resilience and determination that led to the return of the APC to power in Edo state.

The Kogi State Governor who was in Akoko-Edo to ensure the APC secure victory in the area with 34,847 votes which is the highest return by the party in any local government area in the state, commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the people of Edo state during the polls and for matching their words with action by electing the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next Governor of Edo state.

He also commended INEC and law enforcement agencies for displaying high level of professionalism and for ensuring that law and order prevailed during the Edo state governorship election.

Governor Ododo reiterated the promise of the APC and the Edo State Governor-elect to give priority to the welfare of the people of the state and to carry every segment of the state along in the development agenda of the APC administration when inaugurated in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While expressing commitment to deepen partnership between Kogi and Edo as neighbouring states with social, cultural and economic ties, the Kogi State Governor prayed for God’s guidance for the Edo state Governor-elect to pilot the affairs of the state into a new chapter of development.

Senator Monday Okpebholo was declared winner of the Edo State governorship election by INEC on Sunday having scored 291,667 votes to defeat his closest challenger Mr. Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who came second with 247,274 votes in a keenly contested election.
