Isah Commissions New APC Secretariat in Ogaminana

The Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, Ismaila Isah, has commissioned a new secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogaminana, Adavi Local Government Area.

The new APC secretariat located at Inorere in Ogaminana Central Ward is an initiative of the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor to support party administration and activities in the local government area.

Speaking during the ceremony, Isah said the secretariat was aimed at reassuring party members and supporters in Ogaminana Central that they remained a vital part of the APC family and the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

He commended the people of the area for their loyalty to the progressive movement through the legacy parties to the APC, noting that their support over the years had contributed immensely to the party’s success in the area.

According to him, the people of Ogaminana Central have remained steadfast and committed to the party for more than 13 years despite political dispensation.

“This secretariat is a symbol of unity among members and supporters who have continued to stand by the party and the administration of Governor Ododo.

It is also to assure you that, you have not been abandoned and more good things are coming,” he said.

The Governor’s spokesman further explained that the initiative for youths, women and artisans was the first phase of a wider initiative that would cut across the 22 polling units of Ogaminana Central Ward.

He urged residents to continue supporting the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the political aspirations of former Governor Yahaya Bello for Senate alongside other APC candidates in future elections.

He also charged party members and supporters to remain united, steadfast and committed to the ideals of the APC, assuring them that their loyalty would continue to attract more rewards and opportunities in the area.

Stakeholders at the event lauded the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would further strengthen the APC structure at the grassroots.

They commended the Special Adviser for reconnecting with the grassroots and remaining committed to the welfare and political inclusion of party members and supporters in Ogaminana Central Ward and Adavi Local Government Area.

The event featured the presentation of cash gifts and working tools to over 200 youths, women and artisans as part of efforts to support grassroots development and community engagement.

A former Commissioner for Works in Kogi State, Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, has declared his intention to contest for the Adavi Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 election into the House of Representatives.

Ahovi Yusuf made this known during his formal unveiling held on Saturday at LGEA Osisi Primary School Field in Kogi State.

Addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters at the event, Ahovi Yusuf said he would work closely with relevant stakeholders to deliver quality representation and attract development projects to the constituency.

He said his decision to seek the seat was aimed at taking development closer to the people and consolidating the development efforts of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo at the federal level.

“I envision a constituency where the people have a stronger voice, where youths are empowered, women are supported and communities enjoy the dividends of democracy, I will offer not just promises but experience, commitment and a proven dedication to public service. I will serve with loyalty, discipline and excellence,” he said.

Ahovi Yusuf pledged to prioritise road infrastructure, youth empowerment, education and economic opportunities if elected stressing his vision is to serve as a bridge between the people and government while promoting the ideals of the APC with integrity.

He expressed confidence that his years of service in government had prepared him for effective representation of the constituency in the National Assembly.

Ahovi Yusuf previously served as Senior Special Adviser on Solid Minerals in the immediate past administration before his appointment as Commissioner for Works in the current administration, where later resigned from the cabinet to pursue his political ambition.

Jos Crisis: Gov. Ododo Orders Evacuation of Kogi Students


Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed the evacuation of Kogi students from the University of Jos, following the disruption of academic activities, with students ordered to vacate hostels and campuses over safety concerns.

The directive comes amid heightened insecurity in parts of Plateau State, where recent attacks have reportedly claimed lives, raising fears among residents and the student community.

In a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Governor Ododo explained that the decision was taken as a proactive measure to ensure the safety of Kogi indigenes studying in the state.

He noted that students are particularly vulnerable during such crises, especially those residing off-campus and in less secure environments, making urgent government intervention necessary.

Governor Ododo disclosed that the Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Hon. Oladele Nihi has been deployed alongside a delegation, who have arrived in Jos to coordinate the safe and orderly evacuation of the students.

The Governor stated that arrangements have been concluded to transport the students back home under adequate security, in collaboration with relevant agencies.

Governor Ododo commended the swift intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies working to restore calm in Plateau State.

He expresses confidence in ongoing efforts to restore peace and bring perpetrators of the recent Jos crisis to justice.

He reassured parents and guardians that the safety and welfare of Kogi students remain a top priority of his administration, urging students to remain calm and cooperate with officials managing the evacuation process.

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to the protection of lives and property of all Kogi citizens, both within and outside the state, and pledged to continue monitoring the situation in Jos closely for further actions where necessary.

APC Begins National Convention Tomorrow – Information Minister



The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has restated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully ready for its 8th National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja this weekend

Speaking at a world media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, Idris said all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible exercise.

He explained that the convention theme, “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the APC’s commitment to unity, continuity and national development.

He noted that it also reinforces alignment between the party’s internal structure and the broader governance vision of the country.

Idris said the APC has continued to demonstrate maturity and resilience in managing leadership transitions in an orderly manner, describing the upcoming convention as another test of the party’s democratic strength and organisational discipline.

He also emphasized that the gathering would provide an opportunity to showcase the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and further deepen the Renewed Hope Agenda within the party’s framework.

The Minister assured Nigerians and the international community that the convention would be conducted in line with high democratic standards, stressing that the APC remains committed to unity, inclusion, and purposeful leadership.



According to him, the event will bring together over 8,000 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy discussions, leadership elections, and the emergence of new party executives.

The convention is expected to hold at the Eagle Square, Abuja from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026 with party leaders expressing confidence in a peaceful and successful outcome.

SALLAH: Gov. Ododo Approves Early Payment Salaries for Kogi Workers

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has approved the payment of March salaries to civil servants in the state on the 13th of the month, ahead of the forthcoming Sallah celebration.

The early payment is expected to enable workers across the state make adequate preparations for the festive period and meet financial obligations in good time.

Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Ismaila Isah, said the decision reflects Governor Ododo’s commitment to the welfare of workers, particularly in view of the current economic realities facing many Nigerians.

He noted that while the payment of salaries is a statutory responsibility of government, the governor considers it necessary to ensure workers receive their pay earlier than usual during festive periods to ease financial pressure on families.

Hon. Isah explained that the early salary payment is also intended to support workers to cope with rising cost of transportation and goods following the recent increase in fuel prices, while enabling those who may wish to travel for the Sallah celebration to do so with ease.

According to him, the governor remains mindful of the importance of supporting workers during periods such as the ongoing Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season, when many families are making additional sacrifices.

He added that such gestures have been rare in the history of the state, noting that only a former military administrator of Kogi State, late Col. Bzigu Lassa Afakirya, had taken a similar step in the past by approving early salary payments for workers during his administration.

The Special Adviser reiterated that Governor Ododo will continue to prioritize the welfare of civil servants as part of his administration’s commitment to responsible and inclusive governance in Kogi State.

Governor Ododo had previously approved similar early salary payments during major religious celebrations since assuming office. In 2024, workers in the state received their salaries on the 14th ahead of the festive season, following a similar trend for the sallah break, Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while another early payment was also approved ahead of the Easter celebration in the same year.

Ajaokuta Economic City to Begin Operation in 2026 - Gov. Ododo


Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has said the Ajaokuta Economic City proposed to host the Kogi-Hunan Free Trade Zone will begin operations this year, with the groundbreaking of the project expected in the second quarter of 2026.

Governor Ododo made this known when he led a delegation of state officials to receive the Declaration Certificate designating the Ajaokuta Economic City as a Free Trade Zone from the management of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).

The certificate was presented at the headquarters of the NEPZA in Abuja by its Managing Director, Olufemi Ogunyemi, following the Federal Government’s approval of the designation.

The approval followed earlier authorisation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in November 2025 for the establishment of the 4,000-hectare Ajaokuta Economic City in Kogi State.

Governor Ododo said the Free Trade Zone status provides a strong legal and investment framework that will attract local and foreign investors, stimulate industrial growth and create thousands of jobs for the people of Kogi State.

He described the development as a “historic turning point” for the state and Nigeria’s industrialization drive, stressing that the free trade zone would help reposition Ajaokuta as a major economic hub in West Africa.


“Today is historic for our people. Sometime last year, I was here to interface with the managing director and his team to present reasons why Kogi State should be considered for this very special project, the Ajaokuta Economic City and Free Trade Zone. He guided us and set up various committees to ensure due diligence and compliance with all processes. When you have a leader who sincerely places the interest of the people first, the result is what we are seeing today”, Ododo said.

The governor explained that the free trade zone would serve as a catalyst for economic transformation, leveraging Kogi State’s strategic location and abundant mineral resources.

According to him, Kogi state borders several commercial centres and is endowed with over 30 solid minerals in commercial quantities.

“If you look at Kogi State, it is specially created by God. It is the only state in Nigeria that borders about 10 commercial centres, including the Federal Capital Territory. We are richly blessed with solid minerals such as coal, iron ore, lithium, gold and beryllium, but these have never worked for us,” he said.

He added that the initiative would help unlock the state’s economic potential and position Ajaokuta as a strategic industrial hub capable of contributing significantly to Nigeria’s broader economic transformation agenda.

The governor assured that the Federal Government was working intensively to revive the facility.

“I want to advise that we should be up to date. Some people are not aware of what Mr President is currently doing in Ajaokuta. As we speak, there are investors already assessing the plant.

“Before the end of this year, Ajaokuta will be up and running. With the coming of this free trade zone, the project will advertise itself and add to the economic sustainability of our nation,” he said.

Responding, Ogunyemi described the issuance of the licence as the beginning of a long journey, noting that NEPZA would continue to support the state in developing the zone.

“The road does not end here. This is the beginning of a long journey. This is a multi-sectoral economic city that can become one of the most successful free trade zones in Nigeria”, he said.

He explained that the free trade zone model is globally recognised and designed to attract investment, promote exports and create jobs.

With the addition of Ajaokuta Economic City, the number of Free Trade Zones licensed and regulated by NEPZA has increased to about 46, further expanding Nigeria’s special economic zones framework and strengthening efforts to attract foreign investment, boost exports and drive industrialization ahead of its planned 2026 take-off.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for what it described as an outstanding performance in his two years in office.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, stated this while receiving Governor Ododo and Kogi youths, who presented ₦100 million cheque to the party in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Prof. Yilwatda praised Governor Ododo’s strides in infrastructure development, security of lives and property, youth and women inclusion in governance, as well as improvements in the health and education sectors.

He noted that the governor’s performance has further strengthened Kogi State’s standing within the party and aligned it closely with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Responding, Governor Ododo, who was accompanied by senior government officials and party leaders from Kogi State, said the visit was to demonstrate solidarity with the party’s National Working Committee and to convey the goodwill of the people, particularly the youth of Kogi State to the leadership of the APC and President Tinubu.

The governor also presented a ₦100 million nomination cheque to the party’s national chairman, noting that the money had earlier been raised by Kogi youths in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He described the gesture as a reflection of the of the confidence of the people of Kogi state in the President’s leadership and their commitment to the continued progress and stability of the nation under the APC-led administration.

Kogi Releases Ododo’s Midterm Report in Lugard House Monthly Newsletter

Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Kogi State, Hon. Ismaila Isah, has released a summary of the performance update of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in the first two years in office as the Chief Servant of the people of Kogi State.

The report featured in the 8 edition of Lugard House Monthly Newsletter, a publication of the Office of the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor has been received as a timely publication that reflects two years of purposeful governance under Governor Ododo.


Hon. Isah noted that Volume 8 opens the year with a review of progress recorded across key sectors, while setting the tone for the next phase of governance in the state.

According to him, the publication documents the Governor’s leadership journey, emphasizes policy execution, institutional consolidation and outcomes achieved in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, sound economic management and governance reform.

The Special Adviser said the newsletter presents governance through evidence, detailing projects executed, reforms sustained and systems strengthened thus setting the stage for the next two years of the administration.


“It lays out the journey in clear, sharp perspectives of projects started, work completed and systems that defines leadership in a state buoyed by renewed hope; marked by roads connecting communities, public buildings breeding efficiency in governance, health facilities promoting wellbeing and schools shaping the future of generations.”

Kogi Govt. Launches Multi-Agency Operation to Secure Worship Centres, Schools, others

The Kogi State Government has activated a coordinated security operation to safeguard worship centres, schools and vulnerable public places across the state.

This followed the directive by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo following recent attacks on worshippers and schools in neighbouring states.

The Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Abdullahi Adamu disclosed this after a meeting with heads of security agencies to review security situation in the state capital.


Speaking after the closed door meeting, Lokoja Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, ACP Abubakar Umar, said security agencies met with the local chairman to review the local security landscape and implement immediate preventive measures in Lokoja and other areas.

He noted that under the new arrangement, five joint security teams drawn from the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilante groups will patrol remote areas with focus on churches, mosques and schools, while discouraging night gatherings in vulnerable areas.

Patrols and location mapping are set to begin immediately, followed by community sensitization and a compliance operation beginning immediately.

Umar called for the cooperation of residents and religious bodies, noting that the operation aims to prevent avoidable attacks and sustain peace across the state.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, mourns the passing of the first executive chairman of Adavi local government area, Ozigi Asema Maiyaki, who died in the early hours of Wednesday at his home in Ogaminana.

In a condolence message to his family, issued through his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, the Governor noted that he received the news of the passing of Adayi Ozigi Asema with profound shock, recounting his contributions to community development and the unity and cohesion of the All Progressives Congress in Adavi local government as a respected party man and a community leader.

“I recalled that Adayi Ozigi Asema was among the first political leaders I visited for consultation in the build up to the governorship election in 2023 and his wise counsels and support was part of the processes that led us to victory in the election especially in Adavi local government. His support will be dearly missed even as we give thanks to Almighty Allah for his leadership and service to our people during his life time,” he noted.

Governor Ododo commended the legacy of the pioneer chairman of Adavi local government area, describing him as a pacesetter whose experience defined the path of development in the local government in areas of infrastructure and human empowerment.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and urged his family and the entire people of Adavi local government to find comfort in the enduring legacy of the former chairman.

The late Ozigi Asema Maiyaki served as the first elected chairman of Adavi local government area on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC) from 1991 to 1993 and has remained politically active until his death on Wednesday at the age of 74.

Kogi, Hunan Partnership Takes Off With Agric Exchange Programme



Partnership agreements for social and economic development between the Kogi State Government and the government of Hunan Province in China has commenced with the successful completion of a three-week agricultural training programme for lecturers under the Lecturers/Students Exchange Programme.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who disclosed this while receiving the first batch of participants, said the programme represents the first visible dividends of the Kogi–Hunan partnership, which covers agriculture, mining, industrialization and will deliver developmental strides across different sectors of the state’s economy.

He explained that the training at the Hunan Agricultural University, Furong District, Changsha City on Heavy Metal Control and Prevention in Paddy Fields was in response to a request he made during his official visit to Hunan Province earlier this year under the mutual economic cooperation agreement with the People’s Republic of China.

“This initiative has equipped our lecturers with cutting-edge knowledge and innovative strategies to manage heavy metal contamination in rice cultivation, which is highly relevant to Kogi State's agricultural landscape. It is the beginning of many more exchange programmes to be facilitated by the state government,” he stated.

Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging the partnership to unlock Kogi’s vast agricultural and mineral potential, foster industrial growth, and drive sustainable development.

In their separate remarks, Dr. Ajayi Joshua and Mr. Sadiq Fatihu, both of the Faculty of Agriculture, Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), described the training as an eye-opening experience.

Dr. Joshua explained that the programme broadened their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and exposed them to new research avenues and collaboration opportunities with Hunan Agricultural University.

Similarly, Mr. Fatihu noted that the training has given them the capacity to adapt new technologies to local needs, fostering opportunities in agritech, sustainable farming, and food safety while laying the foundation for policy-driven improvements in agriculture and the environment.

Both lecturers pledged to translate the insights gained into practical action that will enhance food safety, improve public health, and position Kogi State as a leader in sustainable agriculture.

The exchange programme, which falls under the broader China–Africa Economic and Trade Promotion (CAETP) and a Sister-City collaboration agreement, is expected to unlock further opportunities for research, agritech investment and more exchange programmes between Kogi State institutions and universities in Hunan Province.

Kogi Govt Set to Secure Oil Exploration Investment

The Kogi State government has set machinery in motion to secure investments for the exploration of oil and gas resources in the state.

This was the outcome of a meeting held earlier this week between Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Engr. Gbenga Komolafe to chart ways forward for the exploration of oil and gas resources in the state.

The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, focused on strategic steps to attract investment and technical support for the development of the state’s hydrocarbon deposits by taking advantage of the frontier basin exploration fund domiciled with the NUPRC.

Governor Ododo expressed the State’s readiness to collaborate with relevant federal agencies and stakeholders in harnessing its natural resources to drive economic growth through the exploration and development of the state’s oil and gas assets.

He noted that strategic steps taken by the state government including enactment of the law establishing the Oil Producing Area Development Commission and engagement with relevant agencies of the federal government and other partners are necessary to ensure that stakeholders are involved in the process of developing the state’s oil and gas resources in the best interest of the people and prospective investors.

Governor Ododo had in October 2024 expressed commitment to providing enabling environment for investors and their investments in the exploration of petroleum resources in the state when he paid a working visit to the minister.

The Governor expressed willingness of the Kogi State government to cooperate with the federal government to ensure that oil exploration in the state comes on stream in line with the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to boost oil production in Nigeria.

On his part, the minister of state for petroleum resources (oil) Senator Heineken Lokpobiri reaffirmed the status of Kogi as an oil producing state and restated the support of the federal government towards mobilizing investments to explore oil and gas assets in Kogi State.

The Petroleum Industry Act mandates the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to explore frontier basins and deploy funds to unlock new discoveries and exploration of oil in Nigeria.

Kogi State became the first oil producing state in Northern Nigeria following the affirmation of the discovery of oil in commercial quantities by the federal government in 2022.

Special Adviser on Media to the Kogi State Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah, has announced a month-long programme of events to commemorate the first anniversary of LugardTV, the state’s official online public service broadcaster.

Hon. Isah disclosed this in a statement issued in Lokoja, where he outlined the timeline and purpose of the anniversary activities scheduled to begin on Friday, July 18, 2025, with a community outreach, and climax on Thursday, August 21, 2025, with a grand finale event in Lokoja.

The statement said the finale would feature key conversations on the future of media entrepreneurship in Nigeria, among other salient issues.

According to the Special Adviser, the celebration is aimed at reflecting on LugardTV’s contributions to public service broadcasting in the past year, as well as reaffirming its mission to connect governance with the people at all levels.

“LugardTV was established in July 2024 with the vision to tell the Kogi story from authentic sources that reflect the position of the government, the people, and the development strides recorded under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. As a medium, LugardTV is more than a platform, it is a bridge between the government and the people of Kogi State,” he stated.

Hon. Isah explained that within its first year of operation, LugardTV has produced close to 1,000 original contents, covering key sectors, including health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, and security.

He noted that the platform has shifted from traditional broadcasting models by offering real-time digital coverage, human interest stories, development-focused reporting, adding that it has rapidly gained a strong, loyal audience within and beyond the state.

“Our team is young, passionate, and committed. LugardTV has become a training ground for young professionals from all parts of the state, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and interns who now see public service broadcasting as a purposeful career path,” he noted.

The Governor’s media adviser stressed that an Open House event will be held from Monday, August 11 to Friday, August 15, 2025, allowing members of the public to interact with LugardTV’s behind the scene experience, adding that a Team Event that includes bonding and switching of roles among staff will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, to appreciate people behind the platform’s success.

He also disclosed that the Grand Finale on Thursday, August 21, 2025, will feature a high-level panel discussion, the premiere of a documentary on LugardTV’s one-year journey, unveiling of new programmes, and awards recognising outstanding contributions to the development of Kogi State.

Hon. Isah called on the general public, development partners, media practitioners and others in civic and entertainment spaces to join the celebration and continue supporting LugardTV’s mission of promoting inclusive and transparent governance through communication.

Kogi SEMA To Establish Emergency Operation Centre

Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has said it will establish an Emergency Operations Centre to enhance its ability to coordinate emergency response operations in the state.

Executive Secretary of the agency, Muktar Atima disclosed this while speaking on TalkTime, a current affairs programme on LugardTV.

He assured that the Emergency Operations Centre would be fully operational in the coming days, with representatives from key ministries including Health, Water Resources, Agriculture, Women Affairs, Education, and Information, to ensure effective coordination.


Speaking on the level preparedness by the state following adverse weather predictions, he disclosed that Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across flood-prone communities are fully prepared to receive potential victims ahead of projected heavy rainfall.

He noted that the agency, in anticipation of likely displacement caused by flooding, has intensified sensitization campaigns in riverine and flood-prone communities, especially those along the banks of the Rivers Niger and Benue.

“At the moment, the agency has identified and prepared IDP camps in strategic locations across the state, this is in line with our early warning response mechanism, and to ensure that no life is lost due to delay in evacuation or lack of shelter”, he said.

The SEMA boss explained that over 258 communities located along major waterways have been identified, with traditional rulers, youth groups, religious leaders and other grassroots actors being engaged to disseminate vital information on relocation plans and and precautionary measures in case of flood.

Atima noted that, while disaster cannot be completely prevented, proper education and timely preparation and response can significantly reduce its impact.

He added that, during the 2024 flood, the agency activated 18 of the 42 camps initially prepared and that the state government under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo ensured the provision of food, potable water, healthcare, security, and hygiene kits in all the camps.

He further disclosed that the agency in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), had commenced assessments of new areas such as Kabba and Ijumu Local Government Areas, where flash flood was recently recorded.

The Executive Secretary reiterated the agency’s advocacy for the construction of a dam around the Shintaku area to help divert water and reduce pressure from overflowing rivers in the state.

Atima who called for improved community effort in maintaining cdrainages and relocating from high-risk areas, noted that the agency is currently working with the Ministry of Environment and other MDAs to strengthen its institutional response framework.

The Executive Secretary urged residents of vulnerable areas to heed early warnings, relocate when necessary, and cooperate with officials in the interest of safety and public welfare.

Kogi Begins Transition to Contributory Pension Scheme — PENCOM Boss

Kogi State Pension Commission (PENCOM) says it is concluding plans to migrate from the Defined Benefits Scheme to the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) with full implementation expected to begin next year.

The Director General of the Commission, Hajia Mariam Abedo disclosed this during an official engagement with the Special Adviser on Media to Kogi State Governor, Ismail Isah, in her office in Lokoja.

She explained that the Commission had already commenced the preliminary phase, including data collection and registration with Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), in preparation for the transition.

According to her, the Contributory Pension Scheme which mandates an 8% contribution from employees and 10% from the state government, will ensure prompt and hassle-free access to retirement benefits for retirees in the state.

The DG emphasized that the reform is aimed at preventing delays and challenges experienced by pensioners in some instances under the current system.

She maintained that since assuming office in August 2020, the Commission has cleared a substantial portion of the gratuity backlog dating back to 2002 and maintained a record of prompt monthly pension payments.

“We are determined to build a pension system that is transparent, responsive, and fully digitized. With the Contributory Pension Scheme, the future of our workers is secure,” she said.

The DG further stated the success of ‘I Am Alive’ biometric verification initiative allows pensioners to confirm their status at any commercial bank nearest to every pensioner without the need to travel to the capital, describing it as “the easiest and most effective exercise ever introduced” in the history of pension fund administration in the state.


Abedo commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his continued support and passion for the welfare of pensioners.

She noted that the Governor has not only maintained the regular release of monthly funds for the payment of gratuity for retirees but has also approved the construction of a new Pension Commission office complex, to be known as the Pencom House in Lokoja, adding that the aim is to create a more conducive working environment and to strengthen institutional operations.

“His Excellency is passionate about pensioners and their wellbeing. Even before he became Governor, he played a key role in addressing challenges in the pension sector, and his support continues to drive the reforms we are implementing”, She said.

Ododo Vows Justice for Slain Retired Major



Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has declared a total clampdown on criminal elements operating in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area and other parts of Kogi West Senatorial District, following the killing of retired military officer, Major Joe Ajayi.

Governor Ododo made this known on Wednesday when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Major Joe Ajayi at Odo-Ape community, where he sympathized with the bereaved family and the entire community over the tragic loss.

The Governor described the late officer as a true patriot who served the country with honour and dedication, noting that his death at the hands of criminals was not only heartbreaking but a call to action.

“We are here to sympathize with the family for the loss of our brother. I was personally touched when I heard about his death. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will remain with us. It would be a disservice to his memory if we fold our arms and allow criminals to take over our land,”.

Governor Ododo assured the people of Odo-Ape and the entire Kogi West that his administration would deploy all necessary resources to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and that peace and security are restored to the area.

He warned that the state government would no longer condone the unregulated influx of criminal elements masquerading as investors, stressing that traditional rulers must henceforth be cautious in land allocations.

The Governor, who earlier inspected a security outpost in the community, cautioned traditional leaders in the area against indiscriminate allocation of land to individuals whose identities and intentions are unclear.

“Any individual or group found aiding or abetting crime in any community will face the full wrath of the law,”.

Speaking on behalf of the family, younger brother of the deceased, Titus Ajayi expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ododo for identifying with the family in their time of grief, noting that the visit was a strong source of comfort and assurance that justice will be served.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has extended heartfelt felicitations to his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on the occasion of his 50th birthday.

Governor Ododo, in his tribute to the former Governor, described his 50th birthday anniversary as a milestone worthy of honour and reflection in celebration of a man whose journey in leadership has been defined by courage, transformation, and lasting impact on the lives many individuals and communities across Kogi State and Nigeria.

He recalled that Yahaya Bello made history in 2016 as the youngest Governor in Nigeria and the youngest to lead Kogi State, ushering in what has become a model for building a new generation of leadership in Kogi politics.

“Our leader, Governor Yahaya Bello, came as the pathfinder of the future. He built a system where sons and daughters of anybody could aspire for positions of influence; where streets once forgotten became pathways to leadership; I am here today as the Chief Servant of Kogi State and a living testament to that philosophy,” he said.

According to him, Bello’s administration shattered traditional political glass ceilings by offering opportunities to youth and women across wards and local government areas, regardless of status or background.

He restated that the former Kogi State Governor built men and women of value not just with titles, but with purpose and raised individuals from different backgrounds to the corridors of public service and turned loyal followers into shining lights.

Governor Ododo emphasized that Bello’s philosophy of governance was to serve as a bridge for ordinary people to access opportunities, and he ensured that those who served in his administration remained accessible to the people in their new roles at both state and federal levels.

He acknowledged that Bello’s strides in civil service reform, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security laid a foundation that continues to guide the present administration to succeed in the state.

Governor Ododo Commissions BOI Office, Pledges Inclusive Economic Growth

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially inaugurated the Lokoja office of the Bank of Industry (BOI), marking a significant step toward bringing financial support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) closer to the people of the state.

Governor Ododo Distributes Palliatives to 1,500 Widows Across Kogi State

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has distributed palliatives to 1,500 widows across the 21 local government areas in the state as part of a broad initiative aimed at alleviating economic hardship faced by vulnerable groups.

The ceremony, held at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre in Lokoja, highlighted the state government’s continued commitment to empowering women and improving the welfare of disadvantaged citizens.

Governor Ododo, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of supporting widows and vulnerable groups in the society.

"The care of widows is not only the job of government; it is a moral duty, a sacred responsibility. Never think for a second that you are forgotten because you are strong, worthy, and full of promises," he said.

ROADS TO REBIRTH: How Governor Ododo is Leveraging Multilateral Partnership to Transform Road Infrastructure in Kogi State

In a bold move to bridge gaps in Kogi State’s road infrastructure and position it as a model of sustainable development, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has embarked on an ambitious strategy of leveraging multilateral partnerships to revitalize rural access, enhance connectivity, reverse environmental degradation and boost agricultural productivity anchored on local content.

While the state government is currently working on over 400 kilometers of township roads including roads in Omala, Idah, Bassa in Kogi East, Mopamuro, Egbe, Ijumu in Kogi West and in Okene, Okehi and Adavi in Kogi Central, there are currently over 200 kilometres of rural roads connecting about 50 communities across most of the agricultural belts in several local government areas in the state largely enabled by multilateral partnerships and strategic interventions.

Central to this vision innovative multilateral partnerships is the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) with its unprecedented erosion control projects at Etahi in Okene, Olubiojo in Ankpa, and Omigbo in Kabba, representing Kogi Central, East, and Western Senatorial zones respectively worth 29.9 Billion Naira. Equally pivotal is the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), which has already initiated construction of over 200 kilometres of rural access roads across the state.

These initiatives, implemented in collaboration with multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), and the Federal Government of Nigeria, among other donor agencies, are closely aligned with Governor Ododo’s campaign promises anchored on a commitment of not only transforming Kogi's physical landscape but at the same time breathing new life into its economy by boosting agricultural output and creating jobs.

RAAMP, an initiative by the World Bank, and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has emerged as a cornerstone of the administration’s strategy to link rural and agricultural production communities with markets and essential services. In October 2024, Governor Ododo flagged off the construction of 65 kilometres of rural access roads connecting major agro-producing communities in Lokoja, Adavi and Okehi local government areas.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Apata, near Obajana, Governor Ododo emphasized that: “These rural roads are not just transport links, they are lifelines that connect our traders, farmers, and communities, fostering economic growth and food security.
By improving access, we are empowering farmers to compete in regional and national markets, thereby boosting incomes and reducing poverty.”

The Governor maintained that strategic connections to be enhanced by the project marked the beginning of a broader rural road network aimed at enhancing connectivity, lowering transportation costs for farmers, and improving access to markets.

True to the Governor’s manifesto, which pledged to explore innovative financing models such as public-private partnerships for roads and other public infrastructure, the RAAMP initiative is a textbook example, blending international donor support with state-driven priorities to address critical infrastructure gaps in the state.

While RAAMP tackles the rural connectivity challenge, ACReSAL focuses on another pressing concern: environmental degradation and the threat it poses to agricultural sustainability and peoples’ wellbeing. In Etahi, Olubiojo, and Omigbo, years of unchecked seasonal erosion have carved deep gullies, devastating farmlands, and displacing communities. In response, the ongoing ACReSAL environmental remediation projects funded by its partners like the World Bank and implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment aim to restore these landscapes through bioengineering and climate-resilient techniques.

Governor Ododo harped on the significance of these projects when he noted: “We are not only building roads and bridges; we are building trust, inclusion, and ownership by ensuring our people benefit directly from the process.”

He further stated that the projects are not merely technical interventions but people-centered solutions designed for long-term impacts, as he stressed during the recent project inspection tour in Kogi Central, emphasizing that the administration has evolved a statewide scope of interventions.

“What we are doing in Kogi Central is also taking place in Kogi East and Kogi West. Our project monitoring teams are also conducting inspections in other parts of the state. We will continue to monitor, evaluate, and complete projects that matter to the people,” he said.

A testament to all-inclusiveness in the development of road infrastructure in the state is visible in the several rural road projects by RAAMP including the 24.1KM Ilai-Ifeolukotun road in Yagba East local government; 19.55KM Aku-Uro-Obajana road, 6.59KM Osara-Atami road, 6.83KM Elubi-Etiaja-Ajakwu- Ulaja road in Dekina local government area, 4.13KM Odidoko-Ugbamaka-Ubojo-Oloyo-Emakpe road in Olamaboro local government area, 16.03KM Eganyi-FFN road in Ajaokuta local government area, 1.33KM EMMCO-Umuaga road in Okene local government area, 2.41KM Aku-UrukuOdoba road in Adavi local government area and the 18.95KM Ibado Akpacha-Ojiaji-Ogudu road in Omala local government area.

These projects are serving as engines of economic empowerment, inclusion, and promoting local content in project delivery.
Current data reveals that over 5,000 skilled and semi-skilled youths are employed across the state, from road construction sites in Obajana, Omala, and Aku to erosion control sites in Ankpa, Okene, and Kabba-Bunu

As Benjamin Oguche, a mason working on one of the ACReSAL project sites in Ankpa, shared:
“I am working on the gully erosion control sites. They (the construction firm) taught us how to lay asphalt and use machinery. Now I can get similar jobs anywhere in the country.”

The ripple effects are already apparent. In Etahi, ongoing construction of roads coupled with erosion control have revitalized community life almost overnight. In Olubiojo and Omigbo, ACReSAL’s land restoration, now over 65% complete, has restored access to fertile lands previously lost to erosion, enabling a return to farming and food production.

As these projects progress across the state, they herald a new era for Kogi. Upon completion, RAAMP’s road networks will connect rural dwellers to schools, healthcare centres, and markets, while ACReSAL’s restoration efforts, supported by over three billion Naira in community revolving loans as well as plans to plant trees for reforestation on 10,000 hectares of land in the state, will safeguard Kogi’s agricultural productivity, the environment and the wellbeing of the people.

Overall, Governor Ododo’s administration is proving that strategic multilateral partnerships can turn campaign promises into tangible progress. By aligning international and national interventions with a clear, community-focused development agenda, he is not just bridging infrastructure gaps, he is building a new Kogi State where collective commitment to sustainability and shared prosperity become a reality for all.

Gov Ododo’s Inclusive Style of Governance Lauded as Exemplary — Spokesman

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s ability to bring governance closer to the people of Kogi State has been described as exemplary.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Ismaila Isah, stated this while appearing as a guest on Nigeria Info FM in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said Governor Ododo’s humane approach to governance has endeared him to many in the state.

According to Isah, Governor Ododo has earned widespread commendation for consistently running an inclusive administration, where women play key roles and young people occupy more than 80 percent of appointive positions within the government.

He credited the rancour-free political climate in Kogi State to Governor Ododo’s respect for everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

“He consulted widely even before he was sworn in as Governor. He met and engaged with all our former governors and political leaders regardless of their political leanings. He also reached out to community leaders and captains of industry, traveling far and wide across the country to inform them that his administration would be for everyone. Through this, he earned the support of most stakeholders, including those outside his political party.

“Upon assuming office, he has sustained that tradition of inclusivity, reaching out even to members of the opposition. Opposition members are carried along in policy formulation, which is why we have not witnessed the usual tension and rancour," he said.

Speaking on Governor Ododo’s achievements over the past 14 months, Isah emphasized that the administration has kept faith with its campaign promises.

He explained that Governor Ododo campaigned on four cardinal agenda items: human capital development (focusing on health and education), investment in agriculture and food security, security of lives and property, and infrastructure development.

“Kogi has faced insecurity challenges due to its proximity to nine neighbouring states and the FCT, leading to an influx of criminals. However, the state government has been proactive, working actively to clear them from our environment through collaboration with neighbouring states and the FCT," he said.


Isah noted that the administration has made infrastructures a priority to avoid the trend of abandoned projects seen in past administrations.

“We have ensured the completion of key road and infrastructural projects initiated by the immediate past government. In Lokoja, for instance, two critical road projects have been completed: the Zone 8 through Barracks, Zango to GYB Junction road (about 9 kilometers), and the Zone 8 to Crusher road (about 5.5 kilometers). Both were commissioned by Vice President Kashim Shettima during Governor Ododo’s first anniversary in office.

“Apart from these, the government is pursuing an ambitious plan to link rural and farming communities with markets by constructing over 200 kilometers of roads, some in partnership with donor agencies like the World Bank. New projects are also being initiated alongside the completion of inherited ones," he said.

Isah added that township road projects are ongoing across all 21 local government areas in the state, with some already completed and awaiting commissioning.

“Just a few weeks ago, the Governor was in Yagba East and Yagba West, particularly Egbe, where the township road project has been completed and will soon be commissioned. Similar projects are ongoing across all three senatorial districts," he added.


Isah further stressed the administration’s commitment to education infrastructure.

“At the twilight of the last administration, two universities — the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, and Kogi State University, Kabba were delivered within three years. Upon taking office, Governor Ododo ensured the continued development of these institutions. Over N10 billion has been expended at KSU Kabba alone, with significant progress made in securing accreditation for most courses," he said.

On security, Isah highlighted the government’s zero tolerance for crime and consistent efforts to strengthen security architecture.

“We have re-jigged our security system, recruited over 2,000 local hunters and expanded the vigilante ranks across the 21 LGAs. We have also provided vehicles, motorcycles, night vision goggles, and other logistics. The community-based approach to security is being sustained," he said.

Furthermore, the Special Adviser said Governor Ododo is passionate about improving healthcare infrastructure to ensure affordable and accessible services.

“We are revitalizing over 200 primary healthcare centres across the state, with nearly half ready for commissioning,” he stated

Governor Ododo Will Ensure Mining Operations Are Community-Owned”– Spokesman
Special Adviser on Media to Kogi State Governor, Ismaila Isah, has assured that local communities in the state will soon experience major economic transformation with the commencement of mining operations and new infrastructure development projects in the state.

Isah gave the assurance while featuring on Rapid TV in Abuja on Thursday.

He said with the recent acquisition of 15 mining licenses, the Kogi state government is poised to reinvigorate the economy in local communities across the state.

The Governor’s spokesman said youths will take the lead in the emerging solid minerals economy in Kogi state.

“Kogi has over 32 mineral deposits, all in commercial quantities. The state government has floated a special purpose vehicle (SPV), under the solid minerals development company, to open up the mining sector to foreign and local investors. We have acquired 15 mining licenses and ready to go into full mining business.

“Our approach is to make these mining activities community-owned. We are encouraging communities to float cooperatives that will allow them become critical stakeholders in the mining sector. Aside the usual corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts that companies present to our people, we want communities to have a say in the running of mining activities in their lands.

“We will also ensure our youths play critical roles in the mining operations. The state government has unveiled plans to train 25,000 youths to take the lead in the mineral exploration we are embarking upon,” he said.

Isah said Governor Ododo is currently in China where is holding discussions with the international community on investment opportunities in Kogi state.

He said aside from direct investment, Governor Ododo is also discussing about platforms for technology transfer and manpower exchanges towards enhancing skills and technology that will enable development of critical sectors like mining, agriculture, healthcare, education, power and transportation.

He confirmed that Governor Ododo is willing to open up the state’s mining sector to investors that are genuine and willing to align with state’s development agenda.

“We run a very smart government with smart people on board. Some of them have been in government for well over eight years and are grounded in the business of governance.

“We are selling the vast potentials of our state including our large expanse of fertile lands and mineral resources. Kogi is home to some of the most brilliant human beings in the world. We are reputed as a state where most of our human resource exports have done very well, both from the pre-independence era up to this time. We have readily available human resources to support investors interested in Kogi state,” he said.

Speaking on the agricultural sector, the Governor’s spokesman said the Ododo-led administration has adopted a bottom-top approach to ensure economic transformation in different sectors of the state.

He said the state government is focused on farmers and farming communities.

“We are building that up by ensuring that we are mechanizing agricultural production. Last year, we did almost 10,000 hectares of land under our ‘one farmer, one hectare’ policy to ensure that each farmer or farming group have up to one hectare of land so they can cultivate in mass for subsistence and commercial purpose. We are also ensuring that our farmers use tractors and not some outdated equipment to enhance productivity. We are also concerned about securing our farmers and farmlands.”

Isah said within the next year, the Governor will sustain the tempo and ensure rapid economic transformation.

“Governor Ododo is in a hurry to make impact. He is a grassroot man who grew up in the village, on the farm, so he knows where the shoe pinches.

“We are building a robust social register in the state to ensure grants and supports for MSMEs, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups get support from the government consistently.

“We are currently expanding the health insurance scheme to cover elderly people, pregnant women, infants, widows of ex-servicemen among several other groups.

“Our agriculture transformation agenda will be expanded to about 50,000 hectares, far above what we did last year. We will acquire more tractors and other modern farming equipment. We are expanding our rice production initiative as well.”

He assured that all stakeholders in the state will be carried along in the development of the Ododo administration irrespective of political affiliation.

Governor Ododo Unveils Mining Equipment as Kogi Secures 15 Mining Licenses

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially unveiled the state’s new mining equipment as he announced the acquisition of fifteen mining license by the Kogi state government.

Governor Ododo made the announcement during the official unveiling of the state's new mining equipment at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Friday.

He said the unveiling of the equipment and acquisition of licenses will officially launch Kogi into the league of states taking advantage of solid minerals development, and marked the beginning of a new phase in the state's economic transformation.

He assured that the 15 mining licenses will boost the state's solid minerals development sector.

He also noted that Kogi State is blessed with vast mineral deposits, including gold, lithium, limestone, coal among over 30 other solid minerals in commercial quantities which remain largely untapped.

“This is a strategic move to harness our natural resources and reduce our reliance on federal allocations. The 15 licenses secured will allow Kogi to begin large-scale exploration and mining, ensuring sustainable economic growth,” the Governor stated.

He further emphasized that the state is committed to creating job opportunities and improving the livelihoods of its people through mining, noting that the equipment will facilitate the efficient extraction of resources.

The Governor reaffirmed that Kogi State is poised to become a key player in Nigeria’s mining industry, adding that the state is committed to tapping into the full potential of its natural resources and has chosen to shape its own future through the mining initiative to boost internally generated revenue rather than relying on federal allocations.

“We are ready to harness the full potential of our natural resources. Kogi will no longer wait for federal allocations but will take its future into its own hands through this mining initiative,” he added.

In his remarks, the commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, shared the state's vision for the mining sector, describing it as a key revenue-generating sector.

He outlined the need for robust policies, equipment, and mining licenses to effectively tap into the solid minerals development sector.

“Being a major player in the mining sector requires equipment, laws, and policies. We are prepared to meet these requirements," he stated.

The Commissioner confirmed that the Kogi State government, through the Kogi State Solid Mineral Processing Company Limited had already secured 15 mining licenses, a step he noted will allow the state to begin solid mineral exploration immediately.

Governor Ododo Grieves over Demise Of Kogi East APC Chairman

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed heartfelt sympathy over the demise of Hon.Suleiman Muhammed, the Kogi East Zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a condolence message to the family of the deceased and members of the APC in Kogi state, described the sudden passing of the APC Zonal chairman as a loss not only for the party in Kogi East but the entire APC family in the state.

According to the Governor "The late Hon. Suleiman Muhammed was a man of peace, humility, and one who demonstrated commitment to the service of the state and the APC as a party. He carried the aspirations of his people with dignity; his leadership was widely respected and his contributions deeply valued within and beyond the APC in Kogi East".

"He was instrumental in strengthening party cohesion and promoting inclusive dialogue. His presence in every party engagement brought stability and thoughtful leadership to our consultations in the zone.”

Governor Ododo further noted that Hon. Suleiman’s calm temperament, sense of fairness, and ability to listen distinguished him as a unifying figure in the party.

The Governor also extends condolences to the family of the deceased, the leadership and members of the APC in the state, the people of Dekina local government area and the entire Kogi East Senatorial District.

He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanatul Fridaus.

The late APC zonal chairman who served as the APC coordinator in Odu Ward 2 before becoming the zonal chairman of the party in Kogi East died at the age of 45 and has been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.

The Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has urged the people of the state to embrace peaceful coexistence, unity and tolerance as they celebrate Eid el-Fitr.

Governor Ododo made this call after observing the Eid prayer held at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Center in Lokoja, the state capital to signal the end of the Ramadan fast.

In his message to the people, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of unity, tolerance, and understanding among the diverse communities in the state.

He called on citizens to put aside differences and work together to build a more prosperous and peaceful Kogi State.

The Governor also took the opportunity to reassure the people of Kogi State of his administration's commitment to delivering on his campaign promises and supporting initiatives that foster understanding and development in the state.

He acknowledged the contributions of religious leaders, traditional rulers, and local communities in promoting peace and development in all parts of the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Ododo has praised the role of traditional rulers in sustaining peace and stability in the state since his assumption of office as the Governor of the state.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been honored with the Governor of the Year Award '2024' Agriculture by Independent Newspapers Limited, publishers of Daily Independent Newspaper in recognition of his administration’s strides in agricultural and food security.

The award was presented at the ceremony in Abuja and received on behalf of the Governor by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo.

This marks Governor Ododo’s third major award by media organizations this year alone underscoring his commitment to food security, sustainable agricultural practices, women and youth inclusion in governance in Kogi State.

The award by the management of Daily Independent Newspapers reaffirms Governor Ododo’s policies aimed at empowering farmers through provision of mechanized farming, encouraging youth and women’s participation in agriculture and improving the agricultural value chain in the state.

Interventions by Governor Ododo in agriculture and food security have not only boosted food production in the state but has also positioned Kogi as a key contributor to Nigeria’s agricultural sector revolution under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
