From the depth of my heart, I pray may doors open... May you and your family be favoured before God and before Men...

talk with Dad, convince him to understand that you know how difficult things are, that you want to start a better job, then promise him you will get back to school once you have some saves.... and you should also do your best to keep to your promise.

From my little experience I would advise you to go for a 9-18 months programming course part time as you can mix up the learning and menial jobs, you also get a certificate for it that you can use to apply for a B.Sc to 200lvl straight.

Having coding skills or a digital marketable skill is the first step as you can try freelance with your skills while pushing for your dream. Goodluck
Where do you reside?
I stay around Alagbado, Lagos

You can learn Data Science from Google on Coursera, you can get this for free (mail me and I can direct you on how to get the scholarship). With this, you can even get remote jobs and you can finish this course in a few months.
It is a lucrative area.

You can also consider open university while you work. it is a very viable option or lookup Nexford University they also have a scholarship program in partnership with sterling bank. It's online too.
Thank you very much. I've emailed you sir

you can try programming, I don't know if its lucrative in Nigeria right now. You can try other things like food making or selling, do you notice any areas you over look, something you are good at, that can be faster in generating income, examine you environment and yourself.

Are you good in food making, Video making and story narration, or do you have unutilized land around you, are you good in making things like shoes, cloths or are you good at chemistry, in making soaps, are you good in traditional medicine, or are you good at instruments, singing.

Examine yourself, sometimes one does not need something that sounds complex like programming to earn, sometimes some simple things you over look can give you earnings.

I will also encourage you to go into programming, but it takes time, focus, and you have to accomplish certain things, like making either a mobile, desktop, or web app, with database connectivity, also things like accessing data APIs
Thanks sir. I've done research on it. The road is very tough but I'm ready to dive all in sir

I don't know what advice you need when you've already advised yourself.

Nigerian unis don't teach coding. The highest you'll get is basic coding. In schools like Lautech, you even get to code inside a book. grin grin grin If that qualifies as coding, that is.

You've chosen the wise option. Get the job, the laptop and begin coding. You just need dedication and seriousness.

Tech, freelancing and coding are the future. And the path you've chosen right now will take you right there.

Good luck brother
cheesy Thanks sir

If you don’t have a sponsor or any financial income,no need of wasting your time in any higher institution ,else you will regret it .Education now is all about finances and if you don’t have any means of income you will surely regret it or drop out.
Go learn a skill and when you are well established, you can go back to school.
I am given you this piece of advise from my personal experience.

Sir,

Here's what I suggest.

Work on creating legitimate means of income.

Business. Coding. Content Writing. Etc

When you have a fairly stable streams of income

Go back to school

As you can see, your father's limits are hampered by the debt he's paying, and depending on him may be a wrong move.

So work on creating sources of income, then take it from there.

Your intentions are wonderful, and I hope that you get the best of your dreams and life.
Amen sir. Thanks

1. Please, understand that if your Dad is repaying the debt, it will be very difficult to Meetup with the demands of Nigerian Educational System.

2. Developing or learning a skill, improving yourself will grant you an edge above your contemporaries. At the age of 30, you can be admitted into any Nigerian University, and be graduate.

In summary, focus more on building your life, future. Skills pay fasters.
Thanks sir

Now, to be honest, I just clocked 26. I was done with my sec. education way back in 2012. Due to one problem to the other, i couldn't further. I had to involve myself in some menial jobs to sustain myself for the meantime and along the way, i learned phone and computer engineering and i do brush through some very important books occasionally.

This is where I need your wise opinion guys. Dad got into a problem when i was about to finish sec. School and since then, hes been repaying debt till now. Infact, debt has consumed all his salary. He's just borrowing from peter to pay Paul to survive.

And he's still of the opinion that i go to school. I got admission to study pharmacy at OOU in 2018, paid the acceptance fee but couldn't pay school fees and i lost it for good. So he wants me to try again but where will he even see the money when school wahala comes again? He's gonna go the borrowing way again i guess; compounding the problem we have at hand

So I've been thinking....what if i go back to factory work, then get myself a computer and learn programming "frontend development for a start"? I want to dedicate atleast 1 to 2 years to learn it. Then after that, i would proceed to school either on part time or full because i still want to further my education to get the b.sc cert. at the minimum.

Honourable men and women, CONSIDERING THE NIGERIA OF TODAY, i need your wise words at this critical junction of my life.

If I'm done with the programming, can it atleast sustain me a little bit?

Should I faithfully follow my dad's intention or just go through my own plan?

Thanks

ProgrammingRe: Share Your Remote Job Experience As A Developer by Sheffdon: 3:18pm On Apr 25, 2021

There is more to remote jobs than you think. Here is my personal experience.

Recently, i received a mail from a remote american tech company that i applied for. I was informed, that an interview will take placed few days, i prepared for the interview and the day came , lot of questions were asked that questioned my experience in web development. Finally the interview was over, but still i felt that i really embarrassed myself and messed up but i kept my fate.

Two days later, i received a mail from the same company where all the company guidelines, workflows and other necessary information i needed to get started were contained.

I resumed work a week after, soon i decided to set up my work environment just for me to realize i will be working actively at midnight from 11:30 - 6:30 due to time zones difference.

So basically, my life was staying on the PC every night and i adapted to it to the extent that i might not use my PC yet i can't sleep at night.

Soon after, i felt ill for 3 days after 4 weeks of sleepless nights and i was advised to reduce my working time and sleep often.

Knowing it was dangerous for my health, i cut my working time to 4AM and i will be off to bed. This step almost cost me my job because i published a new feature to the company product but i didn't include proper documentation of what the feature does and the developers and the members were annoyed with me to that.

Since it was a remote company though they have an office at California, most of their members work remotely, the company meetings are always held on Thursday via Google Meet and i have been marked absent for 3 times in a row which is really bad for my report. I was warned if i miss the next meeting, there is a possibility that i might be on probation or worst relieved of my role.

NB: I work as a frontend developer using Vuejs as my core language.

I work for a Californian company too, my work starts at 3:00pm and end at 10:00pm, I have never missed a standup meetings, and I always give an hour heads up if I was ever going to be late for meetings.

One thing my remote team and I agreed on was the time overlap.
So I just go on slack report that I have started working on xyzzy features and by 10:00pm, I go again and tell them what I was able to accomplish and that I'm going to bed. I work as backend using Nodejs and ExpressJs.

EDIT: I saw where you mentioned you earn $500, dude I won't advise you to quit immediately, I would advise you to sharpen your skills and apply to jobs in Australian, Berlin etc. You now have remote work experience.

I've been working remotely for 4 years, my least pay is still $5000. my goal is to hit $10,000 ~ $15,000 per month by 2021 that's why I'm taking algorithm classes.
pls ooo advise me as a newbie abeg boss

Pls where can I start as a frontend or backend developer?

Thanks
