I have not lived in the US. I don't think i'd want to inconvenient anyone for their passport.
I have not bought the furniture yet, i have however seen a good website with nice collections i like. I just wanted to make sure the cost of shipping and clearing. Then i'll compare it with what we have here in Nigeria(useless quality ).

Okay. If you must import it, you'll have to run it as personal effect and that requirs passport. The logic of it is making it seems the owner is returning home.

Sorry to divert your attention a little bit. I have never shipped anything from the US before. So i was wondering if you have an idea on the following.

1. I am planning on purchasing home furniture from Miami, Florida. (Sofas, beds, tables e.t.c)
NOT in commercial quantity, just enough to furnish my new home.

The items seem cheap over there.($1,000 to $2000 at most).

Do you have any idea how i can go about this? if i put it in a container do you know how much it will cost to clear it in Nigeria ?
Or should i just buy a truck and load it in? will that be a safer option ?
I'd avoid purchasing a truck if i can. Please your advise.

First, buying truck for the purpose will be unnecessary because it will not reduce your expected freight and clearing fee.

Second, having these content loaded in truck will make it difficult to clear and cost you a lot more to clear.

To me, the best option is to clear as personal effect; load in a 20ft container and declared as personal effect. But, clearing as personal effect is subjected to your years of stay in the US or have someone with such that can release his or her passport as the importer. To give accurate cost, I will need a complete packing list.

There are quite number of shippers on this forum, take your time to search.

NB: furniture is contraband and attract severe penalty, so exercise some caution.
