Help, I just got a job but my employer told me I will be put on a 3-month probation before being fully taken as a staff.
meanwhile, I will only be given an allowance during the course of the probation and my full induction as a staff will depend on my performance.
I need an advice on what to do since am new to the employment world, so I won't take the wrong step please

Skill acquisition matters a lot. If the allowance covers your basic needs (feeding, accommodation.....) and the work environment offers some form of mentorship and skill acquisition, please go ahead. I moved to Kano 7 years ago to work under these same conditions (3 months probation and 30k monthly salary afterwards). A lot of my friends and family, if not all believed i was mad. Today, the experience i gained while on that job is probably the reason why, 7 years later, i work as a project manager/business analyst in Canada. Most of the folks that discouraged me are still stuck in the same ol same ol comfort zone jobs in Lagos, waiting for the next month's pay to survive.
there are no hard and fast rules to life, only sometimes, you have to leave your comfort zone and take a risk into the unknown. The choice is yours

I agree totally, your problem is not financing, but indecision and fear of the unknown.

You already have the most important thing u need, the necessary skills. you don't need to rent an office space, You can work from home. Apart from hardware repairs, which you can easily negate by having clients pay 50-60% repair fees upfront, the rest is basically software. How do you treat potential customers/clients? How well have you packaged/branded yourself? What is your strategy for reaching out to potential clients?
I won't advise you to resign yet because you don't seem mentally ready yet to run your own business.

You also give the impression that you have a poor savings culture.

While I agree with you somewhat, I think it's mainly due to economic realities that we patronise all these roadside 'kabiru' mechs. Most of em do trial and error. I squandered over 30 grand on a couple of 'rewire' fixing what didn't need to be fixed.

It's a 4 cylinder engine, all the plugs get wet. The funny thing is once the engine starts, it runs smoothly, steam even comes out of the exhaust pipe. I guess the solution might be to take it to somewhere like automedics
