Former investment banker Kemi Adeosun has been sworn in as the new finance minister for Nigeria during an official ceremony in the capital Abuja. Adesoun replaced Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a former World Bank managing director who served as finance minister for two terms.

Adeosun, 48, was born in Ogun state in 1967 and is the third of four children. She was raised both in Nigeria and in London. She graduated in applied economics at the University of East London and obtained a postgraduate diploma in public financial management from the University of London.

Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has said she did not use her position to steal Nigeria’s money.

Alison-Maduekwe, who looked frail spoke to the Publisher of Ovation Magazine and TheBoss Newspaper, Dele Momodu. She said she performed her duties to the best of her knowledge and abilities.

The new Minister of Defence, Brigadier General (rtd) Monsur Dan-Ali on Friday stirred up a hornet’s nest by remarking that the immediate past Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt-Gen. Kenneth Minimah (rtd) and the Nigerian Army under him did not show respect for President Muhammadu Buhari during his WAEC certificate controversy before the 2015 general election.

Dan-Ali, who assumed duties at the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Abuja, began his tenure on a note many regarded as controversial by opening old wounds concerning the Buhari certificate crisis without backing it up with facts.

The new Minister of Defence told the officers at the MoD: “Where is your integrity when your own Chief of Army Staff (Minimah) stood up and said his Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces (sic) has no WAEC. How? Please let us be sincere with ourselves. Because you should have stood up and said ‘no’; because you were there, you could not. If you leave the job, is it the end of your life? If you leave the job there are other ways; better ways God can bless your life.”

Documents obtained by SIGNAL have shown how former Governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu acquired choice properties running into millions of pounds and dollars while he was governor of the state between 1999 and 2003.

Prince Abubakar Audu is the governorship candidate of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming November 21 gubernatorial polls in Kogi State. He won the primary election of the APC on August 30 amidst calls by some Nigerians that fielding him as candidate was a mockery of the ruling party’s anti-graft war.

Investigations into a case of abuse of office brought against Audu revealed and confirmed Audu’s acquisition of the said properties.

Senators representing Kogi State had petitioned the Kogi State House of Assembly seeking the prosecution of Audu for abuse of office.

A series of investigations carried out by Nigerian security and anti-graft agencies including the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) confirmed in July 2002 that a mansion located on 12301 Glen Road, Potomac, Maryland USA was acquired by Audu on 15th March 2001, for US$ 1,719,954 (one million, seven hundred and nineteen thousand, nine hundred and fifty four dollars).

Another property situated at No 25, The Bishops Avenue, London, N2 OBN was purchased by Audu for a sum of £ 1,550,000.00 (one million, five hundred and fifty thousand pounds).

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole on Thursday accused Lucky Igbinedion, a former Governor of Edo State of embezzling funds for the development of the state. Oshiomole made the allegations at an event organized to mark his 7th year anniversary as Governor of Edo State in Benin-City.

According to Governor Oshiomole, the Igbinedion University Okada, a private university owned by Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, father of former Edo State Governor Lucky Igbinedion, was built with Edo State money.

“There are many files I am yet to open. I am not here to probe the past, but if the past if preventing the present…” Oshiomole said.

A former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Zainab Maina has said that Nigerian youths and women were brainwashed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 28, 2015 presidential elections.

Hajia Maina who sits as a member of the PDP Board of Trustees disclosed this on Thursday while speaking at her party’s National Conference in Abuja.

According to Maina, the youths were nowhere to be found in President Buhari’s cabinet after they had been used for the elections. As for the women, “only a few made it to the cabinet”, she noted.

The PDP, in efforts to reposition itself after its March 28, 2015 loss at Nigeria’s presidential polls organized the National Conference.
