HealthCOVID-19: Oyetola Commissions 160-bed Isolation Centre Equipped By CA-COVID by Sirraph01(op): 9:39pm On May 20, 2020
COVID-19: Oyetola commissions 160-bed Isolation Centre equipped by CA-COVID in Osogbo

The Osun state Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola on Wednesday commissioned a state-of-the-art isolation centre in Osogbo as part of efforts to complement the effective and efficient management of Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

He said the Coalition Against COVID-19 (Ca-COVID) renovated the health facility and donated equipment and consumables for 100 beds to which the state government added 60 beds.

On the same premises, the state has another 20-room single beds isolation centre, giving the Mercyland facility a 180-bed isolation centre .

Inaugurating the facility, Governor Oyetola disclosed that the facility would serve as an addition to the government's other initiatives in containing the spread of the rampaging virus.

He attributed the successes recorded by the state on the effective management of the pandemic to holistic approach launched against the virus since its berthed in Nigeria and the state.

Oyetola noted that the administration had swiftly adopted creative and proactive methods to manage the pandemic as it had dedicated funds, human resources and indeed focused resolve to beat the virus and end the menace.

He said the state government had renovated and equipped three other isolation centres which include, 130-bed facility in Ejigbo; 12-bed capacity in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, a 20-bed isolation centre and 8-bed Intensive Care Unit at State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, making 342-isolation beds and 8 ICU-bed facility in the state.

Oyetola added: "We are adopting a holistic approach to winning the pandemic, including working with the National Centre for Disease Control and the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

"We have dedicated personnel doing contact tracing, testing of contacts, isolation and care of patients for quality treatment. We have extensive publicity and sensitization programmes in place to educate and update our citizens regularly on how to stop COVID-19 in its tracks.

"There has also been provision of palliative for citizens, introduction of lockdown and curfew as appropriate to ensure effective containment of the virus without hurting our economy and livelihoods.

"The employment of this method as well as the cooperation and compliance of our citizens is the reason we have been able to achieve the modest success we have recorded so far, despite the huge imported cases we had to contend with at the initial stage of the pandemic in the State".

Commending the Coalition Against COVID-19 for being supportive to the state in its efforts to eliminate the pandemic, the Governor opined that, "complementing government’s efforts at ensuring the safety and security of the people is the highest duty that a corporate entity, group or individual can provide, and it is also the greatest measure of the integrity of these entities and their hearts for the people".

The Governor appealed to other well-meaning citizens of the state to support the administration in its untiring efforts to combat the menace just as he urged them to comply with the subsisting rules and regulations.

He said, " I would like to extend deep gratitude to CACOVID for their generosity, sense of duty and love for the people of the State of Osun at this challenging period. With corporate citizens like CACOVID on our side, we are confident as a government that we will win this virulent war."

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Mr. Benedict Alabi, commended Governor Oyetola for prioritising the health of the citizens since his assumption of office.

Alabi who doubled as the Chairman, Osun COVID-19 Taskforce, attributed the milestone achievements recorded by the Taskforce to the huge support received from the Governor.

"With necessary support from the governor, the Osun COVID-19 Taskforce, which I chair, has been able to coordinate the activities of the state's intervention against the spread of the coronavirus with necessary vigour and attendant success.

"The speed and sequence of the state government's response to the initial spate of spread of the novel virus, coupled with consistency in management and containment of the pandemic in our dear state have tremendously elicited accolades from all quarters", Alabi added.

Earlier in his remarks, the COVID-19 Coordinator for Oyo and Osun states, Mr. Timothy Arowoogun, applauded the way and manner at which the Osun state government has been managing the pandemic since its birthed in the state.

Arowoogun who described Osun as one of the few states in Nigeria that had proved their capacities and commitments in combating the deadly disease, called on all to support governments in their collective resolve to eliminate the pandemic in the country.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CA-COVID) to ensure adequate support for government at various levels to end the spread of the disease.

Osun Govt arrests 27 illegal miners …17 Chinese, 9 locals, traditional chief to be prosecuted

The Osun State Joint Task Force (JTF), recently inaugurated by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has apprehended 27 illegal miners, comprising 17 Chinese nationals and 10 locals, including a local traditional chief (Baale).

They were arrested following a coordinated sting operation around Ilesa and Ife axis of the State.

Speaking on the development, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Abdullahi Binuyo, noted that no responsible government will fold its arms and watch its land being degraded by unauthorised persons.

He noted that aside the economic leakages, the illegal miners had also polluted the Osun River with poisonous metals, thereby making it unsafe for human consumption and irrigation.

Deputy Chief of Staff to The Governor, State of Osun; Prince Abdullah Adeyanju Binuyo addressing Press Men

Binuyo was, however, quick to add that apart from ensuring that those arrested are prosecuted, they will also be made to pay compensation.

“As part of the government’s economic reforms, solid mineral is a major sector we are looking to explore . For these reforms to work, it has become imperative on the reforms to stop illegal mining and step up enforcement activities. The result is what we are witnessing today.

“The people you see here neither have genuine mining licences nor are they registered with the government. What they claim to have is Exploration Licences, which does not allow them to mine, the way they are doing. So we will be prosecuting them and make them pay damages.

“Apart from flouting government’s Covid-19 Order, by refusing to stay at home, they have created environmental disaster for us, by poisoning our River which is a major public health concern for us,” Binuyo added.

Earlier, one of those arrested, May Zam, who was the only one that could speak passable English among the Chinese, disclosed that she was not aware they were engaged in illegal mining.

She said she worked for different companies, and she believed they shouid have mining licences, adding that the current company she works for, which she failed to name, has a Nigerian sponsor.

PoliticsCovid- 19: Stop Taking In Visitors From Outside Osun - Oyetola Warns Citizens by Sirraph01(op): 7:48pm On Apr 26, 2020
COVID- 19: STOP TAKING IN VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE OSUN - OYETOLA WARNS CITIZENS

...As state records 2 deaths

The Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has warned citizens and residents of the State against breaching the COVID-19 lockdown directives aimed at halting the spread of the pandemic in the State.

This followed the report of 12 new confirmed cases in the State after almost a two-week lull without reporting any positive cases, one which brought the State close to achieving containment of the spread.

Governor Oyetola, during a press briefing on Sunday, said that the State did what it needed to do in the fight against the pandemic by responding early and reacting strategically when the situation placed a demand on the government.

"However, compromise and disobedience by some citizens has brought about a retrogression in the battle against the pandemic," he said.

The effect of the compromise, according to Governor Oyetola, is the 12 new confirmed cases recently reported, and two fatalities, both of whom were males with underlying health conditions.

In his words: "the State of Osun made significant progress in the fight against coronavirus in two weeks, having no new confirmed cases and discharging 19 of the 20 successfully without any death. We were on our way to containing the virus, in spite of the galloping figures in other states.

"However, it is saddening that we have recorded 12 new cases in the State, including three of our health workers, with two fatalities, both of whom were males with underlying health conditions", the Governor added.

Speaking further about the locations of the newly confirmed cases, Mr Oyetola said that the cases emerged from Ede, Irewole, Ejigbo and Ife Local Government Areas of the State.

Governor Oyetola revealed that: "six of the new detected 12 cases were returnees from negbouring West African country, Benin Republic; two recently returned to the State from Lagos; three had contact with previous confirmed cases; while the remaining one, who was suffering from Tuberculosis, was hurriedly ferried in from Ibadan.

"The cases we have on our hands are simply the consequences of breaching the lockdown directives of the State Government by some citizens of the state", he added.

He, however, maintained the government was doing everything possible to prevent community transmission, and that it had begun contact tracing across the affected local government areas.

The Governor appealed to residents to stop encouraging their families and friends, who are currently outside of the State of Osun, to return home, as doing so would further endanger the lives of those in the State.

The Governor also urged residents of the State to comply with the lockdown directive of the government as well as other precautionary measures, warning that continued breach of the directive would put the State at risk.

"Disobedience to the directives of the government will further compromise the health of other citizens. Hence, we are imploring everyone to stop accommodating visitors from outside the State of Osun, to obey the total lockdown directives and to avoid unauthorised or non-essential movements", the Governor stated.

"Citizens that are currently living outside of the State, are urged to stay put in their current locations until the scourge is over and everything returns to normal", Mr Oyetola added.

Furthermore, Governor Oyetola appealed to security agents manning the State boundaries to diligently search vehicles coming into the State under the guise of transporting food items, noting that some of them were being used for ferrying people into the State in clear breach of the lockdown.

Mr Oyetola, while acknowledging the economic impact of the lockdown on citizens and the State as a whole, said that "the earlier the State flattens the curve of COVID-19, the sooner it is for our economy to bounce back .

"Let us therefore obey the directives of the government so that we can return to our normal and unrestricted routines in due time", he added.

As a reminder, the Governor said: "let me use this opportunity to remind us all that the laws guiding the operation of this lockdown and the general security of the people are in force and the relevant security agencies are on notice to ensure compliance and the safety and security of the people."

COVID-19: Osun govt discharges 10 Ivory Coast returnees
... remaining 7 to be discharged soon

The Osun state Government on Saturday said all was set to discharge 10 patients among the Ivory Coast returnees who had been earlier tested positive for Coronavirus.

The state government said the 10 patients would be discharged having been tested negative twice in line with the protocol of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC.

The state Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola disclosed these in Government House, Osogbo, while giving an update on the management of the deadly Coronavirus in the state.

The Governor maintained that the patients were among the 17 Ivory Coast returnees that were earlier tested positive.

The Governor said the discharge of the patients has underscored the belief of the government that Coronavirus was not a death sentence.

Oyetola noted that the discharge of 11 patients was a confirmation to the fact that the state has the right equipment and personnel to handle the Coronavirus pandemic.

He expressed delight on the success recorded so far, "saying the successful treatments should also encourage persons who are feeling unwell to come out for testing and treatment if found positive"

The Governor called on the citizens to maintain the preventive measures and remain indoors throughout the 'Stay at Home' period.

He said: "When I updated you on the state of the management of the Coronavirus pandemic in the State of Osun eight days ago, I disclosed that 110 of the 127 Ivory Coast returnees who tested negative for the Coronavirus had been released to join their families, while the remaining 17 whose results came back positive were receiving treatment and care at our facility in Ejigbo.

"I also expressed confidence that the 17 patients would soon be released to join their families.

"I am happy to inform you today that 10 of the 17 patients have tested negative twice for the virus in line with the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, and will soon be released to join their families and live their normal lives.

"The remaining seven patients are responding to treatment and shall, by the grace of God, soon follow in the steps of their colleagues.

"You will recall that of the two earlier cases one had tested negative and had since been discharged.

"Consequently, the release of 10 patients today brings to 11, the number of cases that have tested negative twice and have been discharged after treatment in the State of Osun.

"This development underscores our belief that Coronavirus disease is not a death sentence, but is treatable if the patients surrender themselves for treatment on time".

Governor Oyetola reiterated the government's commitment to contain the spread of the disease, just as he maintained that efforts were in progress to continue to cushion the effects of the hardships that accompany the sit-at-home order.

"These successful treatments should also encourage persons who are feeling unwell to come out for testing and treatment if found positive.

"They are a proof that we have the right equipment and personnel to handle the Coronavirus pandemic.

"We thank our people for their understanding and for complying with the directives imposed by government and the relevant agencies. We urge them all to continue to obey the regulations to avert community transmission.

"We are working hard to further cushion the effects of the hardships that accompany the sit-at-home order imposed in our collective interest. The next tranche of the palliatives will reach the people very soon".

The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola on Thursday, launched the Federal Government's Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme in the State, which will see more than 15,000 beneficiaries across the State get N20, 000 each.

This is part of efforts to mitigate the economic effects of the Coronovirus pandemic in the State.

Governor Oyetola while launching the scheme, disclosed that the Federal Government had approved the payment of cumulative four-month stipend of N20,000 to 15,562 beneficiaries across the State.

Oyetola had said during the broadcast: "Considering our perculiar circumstance, there is the urgent need for the Federal Government to assist us in our efforts to contain the spread of the virus."

The disbursement of the stipend commences today, Thursday, 9th April 2020, across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State of Osun, according to a pre-defined disbursement quota.

The State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola disclosed this on Wednesday, when he flagged off the distribution exercise at the Government Secretariat, Abeere, Osogbo. He added that the gesture would also serve as motivation for individuals who had pledged their supports for the state during this lockdown period.

The Governor, who reiterated the commitment of the administration to the welfare of the people, said the palliative packages would be distributed to residents of the state regardless of their social, political or religious affiliation.

"You will all recall that, as part of measures to mitigate the inherent effects of the lockdown on our people, we promised to distribute palliatives to them. We also constituted a 21-man Food and Relief Committee to mobilise resources for the procurement of more palliatives to support government's effort.

"This flag-off is a partial fulfilment of that promise and the pledge I made to the people at a press conference three days ago to provide the promised palliatives very soon.

"Today, a total of 6,020 bags of 50kg rice will be distributed to the poor and the needy throughout the State, through door-to-door apolitical channels. This is the intervention of the State Government as we await those of the Committee which will follow very soon " Governor Oyetola stated.

He urged the people to be guided by the "Omoluabi ethos at the points of distribution" saying that all the beneficiaries should endeavour to observe social distancing and conduct themselves with the highest decorum and obey the distribution committees.

Oyetola maintained that the stay-at-home order was still in force and urged all residents of the state to continue to adhere to the directive and observe all other preventive measures "so that we can all conquer the Coronavirus pandemic very soon and go back to our normal lives."

He further dislcosed that the Ivory Coast returnees at the State's facility in Ejigbo were responding to treatment, and expressed hope

NEWSCovid-19:
Osun Water Ministry Embarks On Massive Public Sensitisation

…urges citizens to observe basic personal hygiene

The Osun State Ministry of Water Resources and Energy has embarked on a massive public sensitisation tour across the nooks and crannies of the state against the deadly Coronavirus.

The enlightenment advocacy was hinged on the need for the residents to imbibe the culture of basic personal hygiene and social distancing to curtail the spread of the pandemic.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Dr. Amidu Tadese Raheem and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources and Energy, Engr. Adeniran Felix Ibitoye, who led the campaign said the action was taken in furtherance of the government’s directive for the people to stay safe.

Addressing some residents during the campaign exercise, Raheem maintained that the public advocacy became necessary in view of the devastating nature of the pandemic, which had claimed the lives of many people across the globe.

He appealed to the residents particularly market women and men to adhere to the self-hygienic rules as the guaranteed path to healthy living.

The Commissioner said: “We are out to let our people know the importance of self-hygiene. we want to educate them further on the need to imbibe the spirit of regular hands washing as a way to prevent themselves against any disease.

“As we all know, the pandemic Coronavirus has been killing people across the globe, and as such, we are moving round the state, community to community, market to market to sensitise our people on what is expected of them to prevent the scourge.

“As a government, we have taken proactive measures to prevent the spread of the disease in our state, and this campaign is to further complement the government’s efforts at promoting quality health for the citizens.

“We shall continue to educate our people to live healthy, we will not rest on our oars and we will continue to do the needful particularly at this critical period that the entire world is being ravaged by the pandemic.

“The essence of this campaign particularly in the market is to educate our people to avoid being in a crowd or social gathering because findings had revealed that the disease spread faster where there is crowd of people or any place where people gather in large numbers.

“Investigation had revealed that market places are veritable sources where people can contaminate the disease, and as such, we must guard against this by educating our people to avoid any form of gathering,” he added.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources and Energy, Engr. Ibitoye, said the public advocacy exercise against the spread of the disease would further expose the residents to what they need to know on the dangers posed by Coronavirus.

He commended the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for taking proactive steps against the spread of the pandemic disease by putting in place necessary committees.

While assuring the residents of government’s continued support to healthy living in the state, Ibitoye said the administration was determined to promote good health of its people.

“We are moving round the market places to sensitise our people to stay safe and healthy. This sensitisation exercise has also exposed our people to what they needed to do to keep healthy.

“We have exposed them to cultivate the habit of regular hands washing as cleanliness next to godliness”, he added.

Addressing the people at some of the markets visited, the Iyaloja General of the state, Alhaja Awawu Oyebamiji Asindemade, tasked the heads of the various markets to champion the campaign against the spread of the pandemic.

She implored the market women and men to adhere to the basic self-hygiene tips.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, On The Coronavirus Outbreak On Monday, March 23, 2020

Do Not Panic!

My Dear Good People of The State of Osun,

I address you this day on the Coronavirus outbreak which is sweeping the whole world and leaving frightening casualties and fatalities in its trail.

Its symptoms include fever, tiredness, dry cough and difficulty in breathing in severe cases.

The deadly virus which took the whole world by surprise recently, has now assumed the status of a pandemic.

Reports say there are currently over 250,000 cases globally, with over 10,000 deaths.

In Nigeria, the number of cases grew from 3 to 12 within one week. As at today, the number has grown to 30. Cases of the outbreak of the virus have been reported in some States.

The occurrence of these cases, especially in neighbouring States, calls for caution and proactive measures.

Although there has been no recorded case in Osun, we have, as a responsible government, fast-tracked our response activities in order to keep our people safe and free from the virus.

As part of immediate measures to prevent an outbreak, we constituted three committees to decisively deal with the situation. These are the Technical Response Committee, the Economic Impact Committee and the Communication Committee. These three committees, which consist of experts in the respective fields, report directly to my office under my leadership.

We are also in partnership with the African Centre of Excellence in Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) at the Redeemers University, Ede, for easy investigation.

We have also created holding centres to isolate and treat possible reported cases. The Emergency Hotline to call, should there be need is 293. Other phone numbers are: 08035025692, 08033908772 and 08056456250.

Nairaland GeneralWorld Water Day: Osun Govt Reiterates Commitment To Drinking Water Supply by Sirraph01(op): 10:28pm On Mar 22, 2020
World Water Day: Osun govt reiterates commitment to drinking water supply

...charges citizens on self hygiene

As countries across the globe mark the 2020 World Water Day, the State government of Osun has reiterated its commitment to providing potable water supply across the nooks and crannies of the State.

The government disclosed its readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and organisations to ensure improved and adequate water supply in the state.

The State Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Dr. Amidu Tadese Raheem, said this on Sunday during a Press Conference in Osogbo, which was organised by his Ministry to commemorate the World Water Day. The Day is marked 22 March every year and this year's theme is 'Water and Climate Change.'

The Conference which was jointly addressed by the Commissioner and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources and Energy, Engr. Adeniran Felix Ibitoye, was aimed at sensitising the public on the significance of water to healthy living and the need for them to maintain personal hygiene.

Dr. Raheem who described water as indispensable to healthy living, said the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had strengthened the capacity of the ministry towards the provision of potable water for the citizens.

He said the Ministry had been given the mandate to ensure that people of Osun are provided with clean drinking water, stressing that the provision of potable water remains one of the core mandates of the present administration.

The Commissioner who commended the Governor for being committed to the healthy living of the citizens through the implementation of people-oriented policies and programmes, pledged the continued commitment of the ministry to give a facelift to water management and sanitation in the State.

He said: "The main purpose of this conference is therefore to advocate for the sustainable management of fresh water to the general public, and to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference.

"This year World Water Day is to emphasise the importance of water to human race and create avenue to discuss how nature-based solutions are sustainable and cost-effective ways to help rebalance the water cycle, mitigate the effect of climate change and improve human health and livelihood.

"If we want to create a sustainable future, water management needs to be scrutinized through a climate resilience mechanism and there is the need to invest more on improved hydrologic data, education, risk assessment knowledge sharing and capacity development. Water policies need to ensure representation, participation, behavioural change and accountability of all stakeholders.

"So, kudos must be given to Governor Oyetola, who has performed well through the implementation of the State Water and Sanitation Sector Policy and Law, and avoided doing anything that can negatively affect the schemes and infrastructures across the state.

"To ensure that people have access to sustainable water, Mr Governor procured an industrial submersible pump as a palliative measure for the faulty intake structure in order to bring succour to the people being served by the water scheme.

"In the same vein, Governor Oyetola has continued with this zeal through the ongoing construction of Ilesa water supply and sanitation project and continued maintenance of existing water infrastructure in the state so as to meet the current day challenges as epitomised by the recent scourges of Lassa Fever and COVID-19, that requires potable water for good hygiene and sanitation practices in order to combat them", he said.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources and Energy Engr. Ibitoye, lauded the efforts of the government at ensuring drinking water for all since its inception.

He noted that the state had remained relentless in its efforts at increasing access to potable water through rehabilitation of existing water mains and facilities in the urban, semi-urban and rural communities of the state.

"The State of Osun Water Corporation has been saddled to oversee the day to day functioning and maintenance of these schemes. In this connection, the Governor of the state, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola recently approved the establishment of the Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STOWA) and the St ate Water Regulatory Commission (WRC).

"In addition to these, with aid from international donor organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the state Rural Water Environmental and Sanitation Agency (RUWESA) had sunk quite a good number of boreholes which are either motorized or hand pump throughout several communities across the state.

"We have embarked on facility tour of some water works and mini-water schemes in the state. We have held meetings with all the concerned stakeholders and about to sign Memoranda of Understanding with some of our partners. We have also met and consulted with contractors, consultants and firms who are willing to partner with the state government in ensuring that the people of the state enjoy uninterrupted supply of clean and potable water.

"As of today, we are happy to inform the people of the state that the Ilesa Water Supply and Sanitation project would be delivered within the shortest possible time. We have been able as a government to partner with the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Islamic Development Bank (ISDB) to intervene on this project and ensure timely delivery", Ibitoye added.

HealthNo Case Of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) In Osun - Olamiju by Sirraph01(op): 11:18pm On Mar 18, 2020
No Case Of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) In Osun - Olamiju

STATE OF OSUN MINISTRY OF HEALTH
OFFICE OF THE HONOURABLE SPECIAL ADVISER ON PUBLIC HEALTH
_18th March, 2020_

The assertion by one @ChinyereOranugo on Twitter that, his cousin (name not stated) who just arrived from United Kingdom for NYSC and posted to Ekiti State was down with cough, kept in Isolation centre has been sent to Osun is completely *WRONG, UNTRUE, and FALLACIOUS.*

As a government, Osun has been taking serious proactive measures to prevent and mitigate the ugly but very voracious spread of Coronavirus. Such measures include:

Inauguration of a 15-man Technical Action Committee with due and necessary responsibilities spanning through epidemiological control and management headed by the State Director of Public Health and supervised by the Special Adviser on Public Health. The committee in turn designed a strategic plan which included:

1) Development of treatment protocols for COVID-19 management

2) Isolation centre functionality and holding centres

3) MOU with reference laboratory: Africa Center of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Disease (ACEGID)

4) Visitation/mapping/screening of the Chinese Nationals and other foreigners across the State

5) Placing adequate surveillance on them

6) Massive risk communication activities such as Public awareness and precautions

7) Collaboration with relevant Ministries and agencies for effective outcomes

cool Training of relevant personnel and procurement of protective materials and other necessary Consumables for the containment of the outbreak, among others.

The two Isolation centres we have are in Ile-Ife and Osogbo. They are empty. No patient is there. I don't know why Chinyere Oranugo had to fabricate this weighty lie against our dear State, Osun. *I therefore challenge her to truth.*

Mr Governor had on Monday during the State Executive Council meeting set up an Executive Committee to brainstorm in the effects of COVID-19 on the State. This Committee in conjuction with the Technical Action Committee will come out with white paper recommendations as to next line of action for Mr. Governor's approval tomorrow.

As at the time of this release, investigation is ongoing in connection with Ekiti State as to ascertaining the authenticity of the information, as we have never received any COVID-19 patient from Ekiti State Government.

We are intensifying our surveillance actions to private health facilities in case the purported patient has escaped to Osun from Ekiti.

I want to assure the citizenry of Osun that there is *NO CASE OF CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) YET IN THE STATE.*

Therefore there is no need for undue panic. People should adhere to the preventive measures they are already aware of. *The State Government of Osun is on top of the situation.*

I thank you.

*Dr. Olasiji A. Olamiju*
_Honourable Special Adviser on Public Health, Osun._

Economy: US govt lauds Osun on health intervention, pledges investment partnership
...as Oyetola reels out investment opportunities across sectors

The United States of America has commended the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State over its commitment to revitalise the State's health sector.

The US government who described Osun as one of the few governments in Nigeria that had recorded unprecedented success in the implementation of Health Insurance Scheme, reiterated its readiness to partner the state in its efforts to rejuvenating its economy.

This is even as Governor Adegboyega Oyetola reeled out the investment opportunities for partnership across critical sectors of the State, which he described as key growth drivers.

Speaking during a courtesy visit on the governor on Monday, the Consul General of the US Consulate in Lagos, Ms. Claire Pierangelo, said the US was committed to strengthening the investment ties between it and Osun.

The US Consul General maintained that the collaboration with the state would go a long way to build a healthy economy for the state and open windows of investment and business opportunities for the US and Osun.

She said: "We are very glad to be here to have the opportunity to talk to you on the activities of the state and to be able to see the areas where we can strengthen cooperation and collaboration.

"In particular, I want to compliment you and your team on the efforts to revitalise the health sector. We are aware that Osun is one of the best states in the implementation of Health Insurance Scheme. We must congratulate the state on this feat particularly for being the mother for a programme around the country.

"We are here to register our intent to partner the state particularly in the areas of agriculture and school feeding programme and other areas that you feel the need for collaboration.

"We are glad to know that Osun is working hard already to bring investors into the state as this will help to fine tune our collaboration and cooperation. We are ready to strengthen the partnership ties in the education, tourism, technical and vocational sectors among others", Pierangelo added.

Responding, Governor Oyetola commended the United States for its interest in and support for Osun State particularly in the areas of economic growth and development; governance and development; security cooperation among others.

Oyetola who reeled out the successes recorded by his administration in the last one year, said the state is open to investment in all sectors.

"Our partnership with the US has dated several decades ago. US has been very supportive. I commend you for supporting us particularly in the areas of economic growth and development; governance and development; security cooperation among others.

"Osun is happy to key into this very much beneficial partnership for development. We as a government, has been around for one year and two months and I am happy that you too recognised the so much efforts that we have made in the area of health.

"We actually revitalised 332 health centres across the state. What this means is that, every ward has health centre to take care of the health needs of its people.

"We believe that what is important is to look at the basic health of the people particularly the vulnerable and once we take care of that, the issue of secondary and tertiary healthcare centres would have been properly taken care of.

"Our focus has always been to ensure that the people at the grassroots have access to healthcare, and that is why we have actually put in so much efforts to ensuring that is done. Our state is particularly very peaceful, we are very conscious of the need for security of lives and property of the people that is why we put in so much efforts that we are securing the environment. Our state is adjudged to be one of the best in term of security in the country today."

The governor noted that the administration has sustained some social investment programmes inherited from the immediate past government such as the O'MEAL "where we feed pupils from primary one to four just as the state equally gives support for the elderly and vulnerable."

"We have other social investment programmes for the people living with disabilities and the youths. These are some of the areas that we have actually done very well in the last one year.

"We have State Development Plan which is the basis of all we are doing. This is a clearly defined plan to which we build our policies and programmes. We are agrarian state and we believe that trying to enhance the capacity of our people to feed themselves, there is need to strengthen agriculture sector.

"We are working to supply our people required land for farming and investment. That is why we ensure that we have a land bank where people particularly the investors will have access to land.

"We are equally looking at support on education. We are looking at the need to focus more on technical and vocational education because we believe that is the only way to go now as the conventional education does not give room for skill acquisition and since government can not hire most of the graduates, then, those with technical and vocational skills can be able to stand on their own.

"We did so much in ensuring we bring to bear the opportunities in the area of mining. Our state is blessed with many mineral resources and we are looking at partnership within and outside Nigeria to collaborate with investors to be able to maximize this opportunity to develop the state.

"Tourism is another area that we want partnership. We have several tourist sites. We are looking at a Public Private Partnership with any investor that could add value to some of the facilities that we have to develop to a world standard.

"We organised an Economic and Investment Summit where we invited potential investors to our state and it was perhaps one of the best ever in the country and we have seen the positive effect of that on the economy of the state as we have been receiving proposals from some of the investors that want to partner and do business with us.

"We are ready to partner with you. We have a very good business environment and we believe in the rule of law and we don't renege on contract and agreement once signed. We keep to terms and conditions of business. We are supporting artisanal miners to ensure that our youths are engaged in mining.

"Our state is one of the vocal states that are being used as pilot for Presidential Artisanal Mining Initiative of the Federal Government. We have asked our youths to go into cooperative to actualise this, but we are looking for commercial mining to realise a very good return. Our gold has been adjudged as one of the best in Africa", Oyetola added.

Other members of the US Consulate on delegation are: US Consulate Vice Consul, Ross Conroy; US Consulate Political Specialist, Arnold Abulime; US Consulate Agriculture Counsellor, Gerald Smith; US Consulate Agriculture Specialist, Inches Nzeka and USTDA Representative, Josh Egba.

PoliticsOsun APC Drums Support For Oyetola’s Administration. by Sirraph01(op): 10:01pm On Mar 07, 2020
Osun APC Drums support for Oyetola’s Administration.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of Osun has made a call to the people of the state to remain resolute in their support for Governor Gboyega Oyetola's administration as he continues to execute quality and credible projects that are beyond people's expectations in the last one year of his administration.

This, the party said, has testified to Oyetola's commitment to the development of people and the state at large, as contained in a statement issued from the Directorate of Publicity, Research and Strategy, adding that the fact remains that Governor Oyetola has turned almost every nook and cranny of the state into a huge construction site.

The party stressed that in spite of paucity of fund which is still affecting the state, yet, the giant strides taken and developmental revolution of Oyetola/ APC-led administration in health, civil service, education, security, environment, urban development, agriculture, youth investment and empowerment programme among others is progressive and commendable, adding that the support of the people of the state and appreciation would spur the governor to do more for the betterment of the state.

It will be recalled that in the last one year of this administration, more than 200 maternity health centres have been completed and commissioned, renovation and upgrading of states' hospitals have been done with procurement of modern equipment, several kilometers of roads have been constructed, rehabilitated, dualised with beautifications, dredging of waterways and canals were carried out in almost all local government areas to avoid flood disaster, several schools were renovated and upgraded, streetlight and other road furniture were put in place, to mention but few.

The statement also assures the entire people of the state that it is a statement of fact that Gov. Oyetola is a frugal manager of resources and very committed to human capital and infrastructural development of the state, and his political maturity and exposure has put the opposition PDP to shame as they are still wondering where the governor is getting money he uses to pay workers' salaries and pensions as and when due from'', the party concluded.
