Title: Update on Budget Bus-Hotel: My low-cost strategy against thieves (Responding to comments) Content: Thank you so much for the 30+ comments on my last post! Many of you gave realistic advice that thieves might steal things, and making it 100% secure would cost too much money, ruining the "budget" concept. But I have a smart, low-cost solution to keep it super cheap while stopping thieves completely. Here is my exact plan: 1. No roadside parking. We park ONLY inside "gated compounds" We will not park the bus on open streets. Instead, we will partner with existing long-distance bus terminals, large church parking lots, or fenced fueling stations that already have night guards. We just pay a very small parking fee, and our guests get automatic security without us buying expensive land. 2. Low-cost "Cage Lockers" instead of high-tech safes We don't need expensive electronic safes. We will build simple iron-mesh cages under each bunk bed. Every traveler brings their own padlock (or rents one for 200 Naira). It costs almost nothing to build, but thieves cannot break iron cages quietly at night. 3. Digital Cashless System The bus will accept ZERO cash. Everything will be booked and paid for through a simple automated system or mobile money before boarding. Since there is no cash box on the bus, thieves have no reason to target us. 4. Driver as the Night Conductor The driver sleeps on the bus in a separate front cabin. They act as the overnight manager. One person awake or sleeping near the door is the best low-cost security. I am a young developer trying to solve the accommodation crisis and provide a better option for travelers. Do you think this low-cost security plan will work? |
Just wanted to ask a serious question to everyone here. If someone takes retired/decommissioned public buses and completely transforms the inside into secure, clean rooms—offering a "Bus Airbnb/Hotel" that is way cheaper than OYO or standard guest houses... WOULD YOU ACTUALLY SPEND YOUR MONEY AND SLEEP IN IT? Please reply with your honest thoughts: 1. YES, I would use it. (If yes, please tell me WHY? Is it purely to save money, or do you like the unique vibe?) 2. NO, I wouldn't. (If no, what is your biggest reason? Is it security, heat/AC, toilets, or comfort?) I'm genuinely curious if this kind of low-cost accommodation concept can actually work for travelers and moving people in Nigeria. Let's talk! |
