The Chairman of the 2021 Ogun State Youth Awards Committee, Comrade Sokoya Damilola said the awards were to recognize industrious young indigenes and organizations that are promoting the image of Ogun state in the positive limelight.

Sokoya said 25 people will be awarded in 25 different categories except for the "Icon of Humanity" category where the three shortlisted nominees would be awarded together. The committee chairman explained that the decision to reward all the three shortlisted nominees of ICON of Humanity was due to tremendous act of charity.

"Ogun State Youth Awards is an annual event put together to recognize industrious young indigenes and organizations that are promoting the image of Ogun State in positive limelight in their different areas of callings. The Award which was initiated by the Ogun State Youth Council in the early Millennium continues to shine as an avenue to assure patriotic young indigenes of the commitment of the State leadership to recognize their hard work and patriotism.

"This year's Award commenced with a call for nominations on Tuesday 19th October through 23rd October 2021 where thousands of nominations were received for each of the categories of the Award. "The nomination stage which took almost a month, was closely followed by a vote for a winner to emerge from the three best nominees from December 2nd through December 7th, 2021.

"The Award ceremony has been slated to hold on Tuesday 28th of December, 2021 at Valley View Auditorium, Government House, Isale Igbehin Abeokuta; to commence with Red Carpet at 3 pm, while the main event begins at 4 pm.

"By God's grace, apart from the awardees and eminent youth stakeholders in the State, this year's award ceremony has assurances for the presence of notable State and non State actors including Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. (Mrs) Noimot Salako Oyedele; the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi; and several other revered sons and Daughters of Ogun State across the Nation and beyond."

Speaking earlier, the State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Abduljabar Ayelagbe assured that the committee would be objective and ensure that the award is not politicized to satisfy certain groups of the people.

The youth leadership of Ogun State has announced the commencement of the voting stage of the 2021 edition of the prestigious Ogun State Youth Awards to commence on Thursday 2nd December 2021. The Youth Awards "initiated by the Ogun State Youth Council in the early millennium continues to shine as an avenue to celebrate outstanding sons and daughters of Ogun State currently promoting the image of the State within and outside the country and contributing to youth developments for the greatest good of our society."

In the release signed by the Ogun State Secretary and made available to the newsmen by the Assistant Public Relations officer of the Youth Council at the Ogun State Youth House, MKO Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, the Council appreciates respondents for the nominations. It notes that "Sequel to our Call for Nomination for the 2021 edition of Ogun State Youth Awards, the youth leadership of Ogun State appreciates the overwhelming thousands of entries recorded as nominations for over a hundred revered Sons and Daughters of Ogun State."

"Following a critical review of all entries by the 2021 Award Team, and with the utmost respect to all nominated individuals, we are pleased to announce the commencement of voting for shortlisted Nominees across all Categories."

The Council Scribe urged residents of Ogun State and beyond to vote for their preferred candidates by login into the voting portal "To begin vote for your preferred Nominee(s), kindly visit https://nycnogun.ng/start-vote.php and select the appropriate category."

According to him, the voting category shall come to an end "at 11:59 pm on December 7, 2021,". While wishing the nominees the best of luck in the voting category, he urged that further inquiry be made available through awards@nycnogun.ng. the statement concluded.
