Hey 🤠

1. Your main family in Nigeria , permanent studio, and previous art works (exhibition) are your ties .

2. You do not have a background degree in Art but you possess the skill while your career is progressing, hence, your reason for putting in for MFA in which you even came out with outstanding result (full funding).

3. If i am the vo, you have won my heart already even if you are unable to prove much ties to your home country .

4 But before i issue your F1 visa, I will verify your previous works (via your DS 160 details , LinkedIn, physical art works evidences etc) because i will personally based your F1 visa on your Passion (post study plans) for your job, and the accreditation of that institution that issued your Form I 20 .

Best Wishes 🙏

Thank you for your input.

Hello! Please I need your input on this.

I run a serviced based business/career in Nigeria as a practicing studio artist (painting), while I show with galleries across the world. I have been in this career for 7 years running. I have my permanent studio as well.

However, I don't have a background degree in Art (BA - History), and one of the reason for putting in for MFA is to have a formal education in Art so as to advance my career.

I have a full funding for my MFA in painting.

What's is the best way to show home ties? I am not married btw.

Please how long would it likely take before I hear from the embassy?

Is this Lagos or Abuja? Did you pay in the bank or through app?

I understand paying through the bank app takes at most 24 hours for Abuja

My question about the position of the wall was very specific.

I solved the problem of dampness in internal walls that share nothing with the exterior. I also solved the problem of dampness with one wall whose opposite side is the exterior. But I did notice that that side of the house is higher than the outer floor.

But there is one wall that I did not solve the problem of dampness. Inside is a room and outside is the exterior. One thing I observed is that the interior floor was lower than the exterior floor. In numbers, the length between the window sill and the inner floor was 40 inches or about 100cm on the inside, but the length between the window sill and the outer floor was 25 inches or about 64cm. My response was as follows, evacuated the soil externally so that the space between the window sill and the outer floor was 54 inches or about 137cm.

As someone has rightly said, it is a recipe for disaster for the inner floor to be lower than the outer floor.

Now before I did the evacuation, I broke down the floor of the room that has issues and was able to observe water pouring into the house along the block perimeter during rains. Now you understand why the inner floor should be higher and not lower than the other floor.

You have to be very sure whether it is rising damp or penetrating damp you are fighting.

You also need to know that there are at least 4 ways or means of water finding its way into your property.

To solve this problem, you need to understand how water interacts with your building so you don't fight symptoms but the root cause.

By the way, this is an ongoing experiment. I have not yet had time to observe the effect of the soil evacuation because of extremely hectic work schedule, but once I do I will report.I will elaborate on the 4 ways or means tomorrow, I have to sleep.

I have shared some of my research here: https://www.nairaland.com/7351815/home-remodeling-diy-fight-against

I have also shared my formula for plastering inner walls that have resisted water for over 5 years now. Search for it.

Plaster sand is not your friend, if you want to fight water. Ignore whatever your masons tell you. They do what they have always done, they have not researched this issue as well as I have.

I intend leveling down the external floor so it can go deeper than the interior against the current level it is now. I will make use of sharp sand too as advised.

Thank you.

Slimszy

Before applying my unique plastering formula, the paint would flake and peel off.

But on the internal wall whose other side is the bathroom as well as on another internal wall whose other side is the external wall, even though there is clear evidence that there is moisture in the wall and the paint is discolored as a result, the wall holds the paint.

This is the reason why you go to the root and not address just the symptoms if you want to solve this problem permanently. The cause of the moisture problem is groundwater

I was able to conduct a post-mortem on the wall today.

I plan to post pictures later.

For those who wonder why I said Plaster Sand is not your friend. This is the science behind it: "The more fine-grained the sediment or rock is, the higher the water is pulled." and also "Fine-grained materials hold more water over a longer period of time than the same volume of coarse-grained materials like sand or gravel."

The above quotes were excerpted from Chapter 13 of the 1999 NGWA Press Publication, Ground Water Hydrology for Water Well Contractors and lifted from the United States National Ground Water Association Website.

You solve a science problem through scientific methods and not vice versa.

Thank you so much for your help. Looking forward to the image.

"Your foundation is low and submerged in moist soil"...

Good afternoon Sir, please the surrounding floor shouldn't be higher than the DPC except you used an effective sealant/water resistant cement.

You can dig into the ground, 'probably' a feet or more, to where the joint between the floor and dpc meet all around the main building, chiesel through the external wall and apply the mix. You also have to replaster with same cement mix.

Although not necessary, but 'If' there is any possibility of reducing the height of the external floor you can consider it.

Thank you.

Thank you so much for the insight and suggestions.

Few questions.

1. Can plaster and reinforce the dug area with concrete?

2. Should I plaster immediately I dig or I leave for some days or week so air can penetrate into block area and dry off a bit?

3. Should I refill back with laterite or sharp sand?

4. Can I use felting process too as a waterproof for the dug part after plaster.

I look forward to your response. Thank you Sir.

Dampness is a big problem with most Nigerian homes.

The primary case of dampness in buildings is capillary action. This is a phenomenon where water around the wall areas rises through the wall through this action.

The primary way to prevent this is to institute a dampness program during construction. If the site has a high water table, properly drain the foundation, use moisture barriers on all walls, and create a damp-proof membrane on the ground floor before the oversite concretes and provide a french drain to take accumulated rainwater from the building perimeters.

For this case, you will need to constantly remove water from the building perimeter using a french drain. Then peel the plastering up to around a meter high from the foot of the building, and replaster this portion of the building with a cement-riched plaster (1:4, one bag of cement with 6 parts plaster sand and 2 parts sand) also add a water sealant cement to the mix. If you can also paint the external wall with water sealant paint it will also help

Thank you for your suggestions. I did replastered the down part and I havent experienced it since I did. But the damp has risen above the replastered area.

I noticed the plaster is already weak too, I don't know if its because of the dampness or they managed materials for plastering.

I have dug down the ground and not pipe passed through the area.

The second picture is of an interior wall whose other side is an exterior wall. Right?

The first picture is clearly an interior wall but I cannot determine what is on the other side. A bathroom maybe? Please clarify.

Sorry that you are facing the consequences of building practices that are more concerned with aesthetics than building longevity and the health and safety of residents.

Last question is this apartment rented or owned? This question will determine what to recommend as not everyone is inclined to repair a house for a landlord or for the next tenant even if their health and safety is at stake.

Thank you for your input.

Yes, the picture attached is an interior wall. The exterior is covered with tyrolene.

Actually I bought the building as carcass and did the finishing. At the point of buying, I didn't notice any form of dampness maybe because it was during the dry season, earlier this year.

Good evening Sir, was your house built on DPC or DPM?, Is the height of the floor of the surrounding compound same level, lower or higher than your building?

Greetings Sir, thank you for your input.

I just checked today and the height of the surrounding floor is higher than the DPC. I noticed quality of the DPC material was light too.

Ps: I bought the house and I didn't build from scratch. I only did the finishing

Hi guys, I am currently facing an issue of water damp in my building. It's so frustrating.

I have broken the plaster about 2 feet above the ground in the interior, and it has risen to the upper part within 2 months, causing the screeded wall to peel off. I am completely tired of maintaining and maintaining a new house.

I need your advice please.

You have a visa to work in Cayman Islands ... but the visa is running out? Bro... cut your losses.... save yourself wasting more time and money. What is the name of the company you're going to work for?... do you have valid documentation? An agent in the UK can't get you flight to Cayman Islands..... that should be a red flag. How much have you spent so far? FYI ... it's easier to get into the US legally or illegally than to enter Cayman Islands.... finding a job is another story.

I don't understand what you are saying. I have not spent a penny except for miscellaneous like (applying for Transit visa, covid test, personal needs), everything else are all expense paid.

So I don't understand you. And getting a job in Cayman or going to Cayman is not rocket science.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated.

I have checked Turkish Airlines, I guess they don't fly to Barbados. Qatar Airways goes through New York, which requires a transit visa. Do you have any idea of routes that doesn't require transit visa to Barbados?
