Have you heard about EAA before? If the union you belong to don't push for it, that means you guys don't know your right as workers under federal sector. It is your right to receive allowances as federal worker, Some workers in private sector get allowances talkless of federal government. It will be delayed if the union you belong to don't know their right. You might want to argue on this but the fact is that you are been cheated if you don't receive allowances, how did they want you to survive.

Like I wrote earlier, the allowances are consolidated in what you saw in the payslip. EAA is Earned academic allowance. It only gets paid when ASUU strike for at least 6 months. Last year, ASUU strike lasted 9 months and to date, not just that the paltry EAA has not been paid, 8 months salaries of lecturers are withheld for daring to ask for the EAA u are eulogizing. My brother, lecturing is financial suicide unless u kill ur conscience and make the money from the system anyhow. The only fair side is that u can easily access loan (personal loan against salary-PLAS) say 1-3m, but often times you end up slaving for the bank all ur career life. Imagine owing First Bank 2m, then there was ASUU strike for 9 months, and the banks are still given u 50k-100k overdraft to be surviving till strike is over while ur interest on loan compounds due to months of no repayment. How long will u finish payment after strike with a salary of 124k? Unless ur investment with the 2mil is thriving. Now how many new start ups in Nigeria thrive in 1-2yrs? Not to talk of that done by a lecturer whose training is to research, publish, train students, etc.

Please, which allowances? You have a payslip and no allowance is shown there. Show us one and don't come here confusing uninformed folks. Consolidated means everything is inbuilt. Inside that N124,000 there is house allowance, etc. Don't argue with me, I am in the system. However, those in medical areas have separate allowances e.g hazard allowance which was N5k forever until it was recently raised to 35k, yet many have not received it since 2021 it was approved.

Lecturers are paid N10k for supervising masters, N20k for PhD supervision. (Note this payment is made once after the student graduates. Not 10 or 20k monthly). As a visiting lecturer, u earn 40-50% of ur basic salary. Now for som1 who has been a professor for 10years, ur basic salary (minus allowances, which is less than 100k) is about N320k, so 50% is N160k. How much is flight to Lagos from Enugu, assuming u are visiting Unilag from UNN? How much of the N160k will remain wen u pay for cab, hotel bills, food, etc? Half information is dangerous cos u bias a lot of uninformed people like you. Lecturing is a humanitarian job, there is no money their unless u wanna soil ur hands/conscience

Back to ABU. ABU's budget was N25 billion naira or 26 million pounds.. Cambridge uni.. 2 billion pounds with an endowment of 9 billion pounds.

It goes beyond APC, PDP, and LP....because this headline...awas the same headline in the 1980's 1990's 20000's and even as recently as 10-15 years ago. University lecturers have been japaing for DECADES. I mean for decades. We don't have enough lecturers, and enough spaces....because we think that cambridge level education costs less than N20000 a year, when it is actually more than 2 million.

But we got to let the poor breathe, eh?

ASUU never asked for Cambridge Salary or Cambridge level facilities. They only asked that their 2009 agreement with Govt be implemented; that would have cost N1.2trillion (which must not be released once, but 3 years) Everything required to upgrade the Universities and Staff welfare was worked out. Guess what; GEJ released N200B, it helped. Buhari released N0.00., instead he crashed Naira so much that the remaining N1B is worth nothing! Now Emilokan has buried naira, such that the N1B is a tissue paper even if he releases all at once. This is why lecturers are moving out in droves. In one department in Michael Opara University of Agric., Umudike, Abia State, the only lecturer remaining is the HOD. I'm serious! I have met him one-on-one. APC is Boko Haram (Anti-education). PDP didn't do enough, but they did much for the education sector. The year is almost ended, many lecturers are still paying back money borrowed for survival during the ASUU strike, because the arrears are still withheld by APC even when the value of the money has reduced by 75%, thanks to Emilokanomics.
