I totally agree with you OP. Aba is a complete mess. The worst area I have seen so far in the South East. Aba is terribly bad in terms of infrastructure. From Obigbo in Port Harcourt down to Osisioma in Aba is just too bad. Zero presence of anything government, yet the city generates billions of Naira on a daily basis: Ariaria market is at least 4x Alaba international market and twice the size of the market in Kano. It is only comparable to Onitsha market. Shopping center and new market make up the biggest textile market in Africa. All the previous and the present governor is nothing to write home.

Aba...oh Aba!

Crime / Scammer Alert. Don't Buy Containers From Them! by Smartjob1(f): 2:50am On Mar 31, 2019
This is to inform the general public that there are many fraudsters posing as NPA workers who also sell containers. They claim to have 20ft, 40ft at ridiculously low prices. This is my experience last week:

I wanted to buy 20ft container and customize it into an office a month ago. I posted it here on nairaland. The following day, a guy named EYO (also known as McDonald Charles and his phone number is 09039496320). He called me and told me he had some containers for sale at Onne Port, Rivers state. I said I was going to get across to him as soon as I was ready to pick it up. He said he was recently transferred to Onne port from Lagos. I said, OK!

Last two weeks, another guy called me and asked if I had containers for sale. They needed 200pieces of 20ft and 200pieces of 40ft. I said I would get back to him. I called Mr EYO (though I was not ready yet, we could do some businesses together nonetheless I thought) and told about the new development. EYO said he had 150pieces of 20ft on ground at Onne port and 100pieces of 40ft on their way. EYO said he sells them for N170k for 20ft and 270k for 40ft. I said Ok then called back to the buyer to inform him that some were currently available although, not up to 200. The buyer said he would like to see them and certify that they were export standard.

I called EYO to let him know that the buyer was interested and we would be coming down to Onne to inspect the containers. He then came up with PORT PERMIT papers which I and the buyers must have before we could be granted access to see the available containers. He insisted that the money must be paid into his FCMB account number. I sensed a scam immediately. Being a novice in port matters, I told him that as it stood then, I cannot give him 25k for port permit until the buyers see what was available. I also made him understand that his profit from that deal, if it pulls through, would be N5m at least. So, what is 25k compared to 5m?

EYO still insisted that we must give him the 25k before the port could grant us access. Initially, I thought the buyers were the scammers (requesting for 200 pieces that run into many millions of naira). The buyers said they would pay the 25k so as to get the permit and see the goods and if they like what they saw, they would go ahead and make the purchases.

I told them that they should not pay any dime until we get to Onne port gate then we can verify and pay. We drove to Onne port, passed the first gate, passed the second gate and got to the FOT without anyone asking us any questions about port permit.

As soon as we were at the FOT, I called Mr EYO again to inform him that we had gained access without the permit and he should direct us to his office or come out and take us to the place where the containers are. EYO said NO! He insisted we must pay him the 25k for him to come out and see us. Immediately he said that, I told him to send his account details for the money to be transferred to him. The mumu quickly sent his account details as stated below:

Acct name: MacDonald Charles
Acct number: 1865097012
Bank: FCMB

His phone number is 09039496320

We met some NPA, Onne workers and told them what happened. They laughed hard and told us were just smart not to have paid any dime. First, Onne port hardly ever sells containers. So, anyone telling you that the Nigerian Ports Authority sells containers is a scammer. Secondly, there is nothing like port permit at the main entrance.

Just this Friday, I was able to get the buyers genuine sellers. Nestoil Plc sells some of their containers (20ft and 40ft). In case you need good containers, contact genuine sellers biko.

Beware of scammers!

Business / E-commerce! What Will Make You Not To Buy And Pay Online In Nigeria? by Smartjob1(f): 3:32am On Mar 05, 2019
Hi guys,

I am sure so many of us have been yearning to know some of the reasons why some of us do not patronize online stores. Today, let us help ourselves and the budding entrepreneurs in that space. Let's tell them why we would or would not buy online in Nigeria e-store.

Tell us why you still prefer physical store to an online store even when the price on the online store is cheaper?
What would you advise online stores to start doing in other to patronize them?

Let's learn.

First, I did some manual jobs for 8months living with my mother. I saved 90% of the money during the period to buy a laptop and modem. Then I taught myself how to run econometric and data analysis using eviews, spss, sata12 and minitab using youtube (still doing menial jobs by the side). Once I am good with what that, I started contacting people in different schools, online, etc to let them know I can run their analysis (it is a must for all social and management students - Bsc, Msc and PhD) to use in doing their projects (Chapters 3, 4, 5). I told them I would do it for free for them for the first time. Few responded after months of trying my luck. Fortunately, those who responded got straight As from it and then - boom! The referrals skyrocketed. I started handling analysis from a Bsc to a Prof. With more jobs, the more my knowledge grew and the more I made money. I charge between 10k 100k for an analysis that wouldnt take more than 3-5mins to finish. Sometimes, I do this for 5 people in 2 days.

I saved money from there to set up my first company - SolPro (an ICT firm). I quickly registered as a vendor with some big firms in Port Harcourt. Then I started receiving quotes from my clients. My brethren, my story has been growing from there. I was 27years since this started.

I went on to setup an HR social networking platform www.bejite.com (which is currently offline because we are working out something. But has an alexa rank of 14m worldwide. Not bad for a social network that just started few years ago by an amateur).

I also setup a training center for programmers called CodePro. There, programmers will be trained to join us in the long-term.

We are not there yet, but we are not where we used to be. Ahead! Ahead.

Well, I still run analysis for people. But this time, I call the shots big time!

Yea. I also understand where you are coming from. I also assumed that the place of work, the supervisor you directly report to wouldn't be too heartless not to be tipping you occasionally. It is also assumed that you wouldnt join a start up if you would have issues with finance early.
FOWOSHERE01:

I do understand your point of view and of course it's perfectly logical. However, what I meant was how can an individual who has no means of income at all survive the six months? How will he/she take care of expenses such as transport, feeding, clothing etc?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Want To Get A Job Fast? Do These! by Smartjob1(f): 3:36am On Sep 24, 2018
Without experience and fresh out of the university? Many companies may not even give you the chance to work for free for them because they may not retian you after that. However,if they ever give you the chance, chances are that you may get the job later.
FOWOSHERE01:
I no dey do free 6 months work.

Honestly, number 2 is not only unreasonable, it's also dumb and annoying.

Can you advise your boyfriend/husband to work for six months free??

You want to land that dream job, follow these tips.

Tips on getting a job faster than the rest.

1. Walk into your target organisation and ask to meet with the hiring manager. Mention a specific thing you thing you can do for the company e.g. bookkeeping, filing/recording, laundry, etc and tell him that you would want to work for them.

2. Tell him/her that you will work for free for 6months.

3. Tell him/her that at the end of the free working period, the company should give you an official recommendation letter if they liked your services but couldn't retain you as a full staff.

4. Use that to easily land a job together with your acquired experience.
