Oladipo Diya was born in Odogbolu, a town in Ogun State, Nigeria, on April 3, 1944. Raised in a traditional Yoruba household, Diya’s early life was shaped by the values of discipline and service. His academic journey began at Methodist Primary School before he advanced to Methodist Boys’ High School in Lagos, where his interest in military service was ignited.

Oladipo Diya’s military career commenced when he enrolled in the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1967, a significant period marked by Nigeria’s civil war.
