No fewer than 38 universities across the country have increased their tuition fees as a result of poor funding by the Federal and State governments. The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan Chapter, Dr Deji Omole, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday. The statement which assessed the two years of President Muhammadu Buhari in office, lamented that the current government had made Nigerians poorer. Omole said that the public education was not taken seriously because most children of the rich and those in high offices do not attend school in Nigeria. “The latest increment might be attributed to poor funding by the federal and state governments as ASUU poorly rated the President Muhammadu Buhari in the area of funding of university education. ASUU also noted that it would be difficult for any Nigeria university to effectively compete globally with the inadequate allocation of budgetary funding as prescribed by UNESCO to fund education. The federal government has absolved itself and the various state governments, particularly the coordinators of its youth employment scheme, N-Power, of responsibilities over the non payments of some oof the volunteers of the programme in the state. Making the clarifications at the weekend, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation, Mr. Afolabi Imoukhuede, said that the few persons who were yet to be paid were still having issues bothering particularly on irregularities in their bank details, especially the Bank Verificationh Number (BVN). The presidential aide, particularly noted that in Delta state, out of the 7,149 volunteers who were engaged in the programme, 5,916 were beirng paid as at May, this year, adding that 857 others were just cleared and paid last week. He explained that while others were still having issues relating to their BVN as their accounts could not be verified by the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), 140 of the volunteers in the state do not have record of bank accounts, hence, they could not be paid. While urging those affected to go and rectify their BVN challenges, the Presidential aide held that the programme is already growing in leaps and bounds as according to him, the current ongoing recruitment has attained a major milestone by reaching 1.1 million graduate applicants within one week. https://dailytimes.ng/news/n-power-fg-explains-reasons-delay/amp/ |
Women who fight to keep men are not wise. It makes no sense to also fight other women to leave your man alone. That’s his job and not yours. If your man keeps putting you in a position where you have to fight other women, you need a better man. He doesn’t love you. He is just playing games with your feelings and destroying your self esteem. Ladies, fighting for a man’s love and attention is wrong. It shows you have underlying insecurities and low self esteem. You can’t force someone to love and show you affection if they don’t feel the same way. Forget all the lies society tells you that if you love him, you should fight for him. You shouldn’t be fighting alone. If he’s also fighting to keep you, then it is a healthy situation. But when you are the only one fighting, you will look foolish and desperate. I don’t believe you have to fight to keep a man. Some women believe you should, even if that means degrading yourself or settling with someone who has no respect for you and your feelings. That’s settling for heartaches in the future. Fighting for a man to stay with you is not worth the efforts put into it. In the end, he will leave you for the woman he truly wants. So why are you wasting your time holding to a dead weight just because you want to claim to have a man you are in a relationship with? Putting up with all the hurt, humiliation and stress that come from being in a relationship with a man who doesn’t want you as much as you want him is emotionally draining. He doesn’t have the right to take away your dignity and turn you into a jealous crazed maniac, but you do have the right to move on. As a woman, it is your right to refuse to be disrespected. It is your right to move on and know that you deserve better than fighting to keep someone who doesn’t want to be kept. He is not the only man on earth. There are many fishes in the sea. Stop hurting yourself holding on to an unwilling man. One of the reasons you shouldn’t fight to keep a man by your side is that he won’t respect you. He will keep chasing other women and giving you the unhealthy task of fighting them on his behalf. If you keep trying desperately to keep him away from other women, he will keep going after these women because he knows you will continue to fight them off. If a man doesn’t make efforts to be faithful to you, stay away from him and his drama schemes. It’s not your duty to fight other women to leave him alone, that’s his duty to you as your man. Don’t forget that. You shouldn’t be making excuses for his irresponsibility. He is not a baby. He is an adult who knows good from bad. So, save your strength for productive things instead of snooping around his phones to track his latest catch that you will go and fight. Also, you can’t force someone to love you. Before you get yourself all worked up and angry, ask yourself what exactly you are fighting for? Are you fighting for his love and affection or fighting to show others you now have a man? You don’t need to fight for that. That is something he has to give you willingly. You can’t force him to love you. You can’t convince him to love you, either. You don’t have to stay in a relationship with someone who doesn’t freely love you. You are limiting yourself to a person who is not in love with you and you are wasting valuable time too. Taking on the role of an insecure woman running after her man all the time can be disheartening. Some men have a natural ability to make women feel insecure. If you are in a relationship with one of these types, there is nothing to fight for. Let someone else have him. Clinging onto someone for dear life is not happiness or love. It is imprisonment. Prolonged stress is bad for your health, so why put yourself through that hell just to keep hold of a man? You don’t need the extra stress in your life and you sure don’t need any added health problems caused by it. It is a waste of valuable time to fight for a man’s love. You will waste too much time trying to keep him. You will spend the rest of your days with him fighting unending battles. Neither one of you will be happy. What joy and fulfilment will you derive belittling yourself for a man for life? Fighting to keep a man makes you look needy. He has been honest with you. He doesn’t feel that the relationship with you is working out and he is interested in another person. The right thing for you to do is accept that the relationship is over and let him go peacefully, but you are so blinded by desperation that you can’t do that. Instead, you beg him to stay with you and to give you one last chance. You pull strings and guilt trip him into remaining in the relationship with you. He is not happy and you are an absolute mess. You are acting desperate and needy. The more he runs from the relationship, the harder you cling to him like gum. Why don’t you just respect yourself and move on? When you are in a relationship where you feel that you have to constantly fight for your man’s love, fight for his attention, and fight other women to leave him alone, you are not in a healthy relationship. You are in a personal hell that only you can break free from. Let go of that man if you are miserable, knowing full well that your soul mate is out there. You can find him if you stay true to yourself and do away with desperation. Ladies, stop breaking your own hearts. You have to know that fighting for someone’s heart or faithfulness is a battle you will never win. In your journey through life, you need to find a man with the same relationship values as yourself. Fighting to keep a man in your life is not worth it. You deserve so much more. If a man is not matching your own efforts in making your relationship work, leave him alone. There are many men out there who would love you and treat you right. Ladies, stop that desperation to have a man at all costs. http://sunnewsonline.com/ladies-who-fight-to-keep-men-are-not-wise/ |

Mr Okoi Obono-Obla, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Prosecutions, has said that part of the 2017 budget will be financed by recovered looted funds. Obono-Obla stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen on what the Federal Government was doing with looted funds so far recovered. “About 20 per cent of this year`s budget will be financed from our recovery effort,’’ he said. He added that the Federal Government would, however, liaise with the National Assembly for permission before the funds would be used. The president’s aide commended the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, saying that it had ensured the stability of the country`s polity and had halted corruption in public offices. He stated that the APC was not going through any leadership crisis as was being reported in a section of the media. Obono-Obla said that the party would continue to be in power as long as it continued to serve the interest of Nigerians by delivering true democracy dividends. He debunked insinuations that the recent raid of the Sun Newspaper’s office by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was done out of victimisation. “They didn’t go there because the Sun published a news story that is adverse to the EFCC or the Federal Government. “They went there to do their work as part of their mandate to fight economic and financial crimes,’’ he said. The aide said that the media house was owned by a former governor, who was currently being prosecuted by the EFCC. He stressed that the fact that the publisher of the newspaper was under trial, gave the commission the power to obtain a court order of interim forfeiture pending the hearing of the case. Another fact is that is that since Donald left, the frenzy that came with the core attraction of Obudu which is the ranch is ebbing fast. Liyel was the worst thing that happened to CRS. As for Ayade, he's too playful and excited to be taken serious. But he (Ayade) is still better than Liyel. |

His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerian leaders to learn from the mistakes of the past and move the nation forward. The monarch said the leaders must ensure Nigeria does not experience another civil war. “As a nation, we have gone through and surmounted the worst of all, a civil war. I think we have lessons to learn from that because very few nations could survive civil war.” About three million Nigerians are believed to have died in the civil war between 1967 and 1970 that pitched federal soldiers against those of Biafra (currently Nigeria’s South-east and South-south states). “We must check the lessons and guard against repeating such mistakes and move forward,” the monarch said. Abubakar said successful societal and economic transformation would succeed when they are supported and energised by value system. He stated this at the “Traditional Rulers Day”, as part of activities marking the 50th Anniversary of Rivers in Port Harcourt. The Sultan, who delivered a lecture entitled: “Traditional Institution in Nigeria and The Challenge of Re-Engineering Viable Local Economies,” said, no society could develop without its value system. He said the institution as custodians of societal values and norms were therefore critical component of any serious and sustainable transformation of the society. “This is particularly so with the economic transformation and the fight against corruption,” he said. The monarch, who is also retired army general, identified poverty and unemployment as a challenge with multilink and consequences that could be associated to issues of national security or insecurity. He noted that while governments at all levels have the responsibility within the constraints of its budget to address the issues, the traditional institution also has an important role to play. According to him, the traditional institution by proximity to the poor has a deeper understanding and appreciation of the levels of poverty. “By their presence and grasp of the local environment, they are better positioned to drive any genuine transformation of the local economy. “Being the direct leaders of the poor, they are part of the major stakeholders in the alleviation of poverty, they daily bear the brunt of the consequence of poverty,” he said. He further advocated the urbanising and building of industries in the local areas to achieve a sustainable economic policy. According to him, the economic industries where craftsmen and other professionals would be trained to meet the daily needs of the society , was indispensable. “Such society will have value of dignity of labour in order to inculcate hard work and discourage laziness and begging,” he said. He said that the traditional institution had quality and educated people with the best of professions. “The institution is fountain of knowledge for political leaders to tap from free of charge as we progress further in nation building,” he canvassed. Fifteen days after some gunmen attempted to assassinate Senator Dino Melaye at his residence at Iyala, Ijumu LGA in Kogi State, the Police yesterday named the Chairman of the same Ijumu Local Government, 54-year-old Taofiq Isa as the principal suspect and mastermind of the attack. AS the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), on Thursday, ahead of 2019 general election, its chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu, has raised the alarm that foreigners were already in possession of temporary and permanent voter cards. The INEC chairman dropped the bombshell while inaugurating the exercise in Karu, Abuja. Professor Yakubu, who however said the culprits had been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, admonished security operatives to monitor the ongoing CVR in all the 774 local government areas of the country to prevent illegal immigrants who might want to partake in the exercise. He equally appealed to political parties, civil society organisations and media to monitor the exercise to prevent the registration of foreign elements. Professor Yakubu, who was not forthcoming on the number of foreigners apprehended, expressed concern that their motive could undermine the genuine efforts of his commission, as he noted that the law of the land did not accommodate foreigners to register as voters and to vote in the country. He said: “Let me state the position of the law on voter registration. The exercise is only open to Nigerians. It is illegal for foreigners to register, just as it is illegal for them to vote in our election. “The Nigeria Immigration Service has already apprehended many foreigners in possession of the PVCs and appropriate action is being taken against them. “I have received a number of letters containing tens of PVCs. They are quite a large number, temporary and permanent voter cards, from the Nigeria Immigration Service. “As to the number arrested and what action is being taken, we have to contact the immigration service but as to what we are going to be doing going forward, we are going to ask our security agencies including the Nigeria Immigration Service to keep an eye on the process. “And then you should also help us, the media, the civil society bodies, the political parties, to effectively police the process. If there is any person that doesn’t look like a Nigerian, trying to register, please draw the attention of the security agencies and we will move in swiftly.” He also disclosed that his commission would not condone registration by proxy. According to him, registration by proxy was one of the reasons the smart card readers could not read the biometrics of registered voters during elections. Yakubu told newsmen that he has deployed over 4,000 personnel across the country in the ongoing registration exercise. http://tribuneonlineng.com/foreigners-possession-voter-cards-inec-raises-alarm/ |
Jagaba Jagaba, chairman house of representatives committee on interior, says the country’s prisons need to be upgraded because everyone is a potential prisoner in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. According to DAILY TRUST, Jagaba said this on Thursday while commissioning of 239 operational vehicles and farm implements acquired by the Nigerian prisons service (NPS). He said it had become important for prisons to be in good condition because governors and other top government officials were being imprisoned. Jagba said the national assembly had been working hard to upgrade all the prison facilities across the country. The lawmaker explained that funds had to be pulled from other government agencies to enable the prison authorities to have a tangible allocation in the budget. “Everybody is a potential prisoner, especially in this administration,” Jagaba said. “It is important that we have good prisons because governors, ministers and other big politicians are now being committed to prison.” https://www.thecable.ng/rep-prisons-need-upgraded-govt-everyone-potential-prisoner |

The three-man presidential committee tasked to investigate allegations of contract frauds in which the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal is involved, has asked the Senate which originally indicted Mr. Lawal, for evidence, according to correspondence seen by PREMIUM TIMES. The committee, chaired by the Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo wrote Shehu Sani, the senator heading the Senate ad-hoc committee on mounting humanitarian crisis in the north east. Mr. Sani’s committee blew the lid of alleged procurement fraud at the Presidential Initiative for the North East, PINE. In the letter dated April 21 and signed by Mr. Osinbajo’s Chief of Staff, Ade Ipaye, the presidential committee asked for evidence against Mr. Lawal, who is at the centre of the allegations. The presidential committee asked for “relevant documentation, including the report of your committee’s deliberations on the same subject for appropriate consideration by the presidential committee.” Mr. Sani on Wednesday confirmed that his committee received the letter. “I confirm that we got the letter and we will provide the documents to the committee,” he told journalists. The other two members of the presidential committee are the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. Senate Re-Invites SGF Lawal In a related development, Mr. Sani’s committee has re-invited the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, to its hearing slated for tomorrow, Thursday, PREMIUM TIMES can confirm. The correspondence, a ‘re-invitation’ letter dated April 26, 2017, was signed by the clerk to the committee, Lawal Bungudu. Mr. Lawal is expected to answer questions over allegations of breach of law and due process in how contracts were awarded by t PINE, an intervention agency under the office of the SGF. The Senate probe committee had invited Mr. Lawal to appear before it ‘for the second time’ on March 15, 2017. But then, he declined appearance, first, citing a pending litigation before requesting postponement afterwards. “The committee has granted your request conveyed in your letter dated March 22, 2017 and re-scheduled the meeting,” reads the letter. “By this letter, I am directed to formally invite you to appear before the committee on Thursday, April 27, 2017.” Senate sources, however, told PREMIUM TIMES that the embattled SGF may not appear before the committee as his aides refused to accept the invitation letter on Wednesday. Last December, the Senate committee under Mr. Sani had indicted Mr. Lawal, in its interim report, for retaining directorship of a company, Rholavision, while being the SGF and using same company, originally registered for ICT services in 1990, to receive ‘grass-cutting’ consultancy contract from PINE, an agency under his supervision, all in breach of Nigeria’s code of conduct for public officials. The Senate then adopted the report of its committee and resolved to demand President Muhammadu Buhari suspend and prosecute Mr. Lawal. But the President wrote back, rejecting the call for action against Mr. Lawal. He said, in January, that the Senate did not extend principle of fair hearing to the SGF and that the damning report itself was a ‘minority report’. However, Mr. Buhari last week announced the suspension of Mr. Lawal over the allegations made by the Senate, and constituted the Osinbajo committee to probe Mr. Lawal. Mr. Buhari constituted the committee on April 19, same day Mr. Lawal was suspended alongside the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, and gave it two weeks to accomplish its task. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/229738-provide-us-evidence-babachir-lawal-osinbajos-committee-tells-senate.html |

Femi Makinde and Success Nwogu. The arraignment of a traditional ruler in Ile - Ife , Oba Ademola Ademiluyi , and other suspects , who were arrested in connection with the March 8 violent clash between the Yoruba and Hausa in the town , could not hold at the Osun State High Court on Tuesday as scheduled. Our correspondent observed that although the suspects were brought to court by the police in a white bus , they could not be arraigned as planned due to what a police source called “ lack of consent. ” The policeman told journalists that “ the suspects will be returned to the Police Headquarters in Osogbo because the court refused to hear the case for lack of consent. ” The police source said the arraignment of the monarch and other suspects would hold on Wednesday ( today ), after he said the issue would have been sorted out. However , there was heavy presence of armed policemen within and outside the court premises while streets leading to the court were also manned by armed policemen. Chiefs and traditionalists from Ile - Ife , who came to the court , were seen all over the court premises in solidarity with the suspects , who are indigenes of the town . Some traditional rulers , led by Oba Kole Ojutalayo , have decried the arrest of Oba Ademiluyi and the alleged humiliating treatment meted out to him during his detention in Abuja . The monarchs accused the police of bias in carrying out their investigation into the crisis , saying it was wrong to make arrests from among Yoruba alone as the Hausa also attacked Yoruba during the clash. Meanwhile , the Concerned Citizen of Kwara State Yoruba , on Tuesday , urged security agencies to release the detained monarch, who has been in detention over the clash. The President of the group, Mr . Michael Ologunde , in a media briefing in Ilorin , the Kwara State capital , said traditional rulers deserved respect , adding that Ademiluyi ’ s continued detention was unwarranted and could aggravate tension . Ologunde stated , “ The traditional ruler should not be touched at all. “ This type of thing cannot happen in the North , where an emir will be detained . Security agencies should avoid the continued detention of the Yoruba monarch to avoid chaos and crisis because we have respect for our traditional rulers . ” He expressed support for the position of the pan - Yoruba socio- political group , Afenifere ; Ooni of Ife , Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi ; and the people of Ile - Ife . He alleged that that the police were bias against the Yoruba on the matter , arguing that the arrest of only Yoruba youths as perpetrators of the crisis was unfair. http://punchng.com/ile-ife-police-to-arraign-monarch-others-in-osun-today/ |

Following the decision of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to grant bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Tuesday, DAILYPOST looks back at some prophecies released at the beginning of the year by some notable men of God. Some of these clergymen had predicted that Kanu would regain his freedom in 2017. Nnamdi Kanu, the founder of Radio Biafra and leader of pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was arrested on the 14th of October, 2015 at the Golden Tulip Essential Lagos Airport Hotel and has been in prison for over 2 years. One of the prophets is an Enugu-based preacher named Anthony Nwoko who in January said Kanu’s release will not exceed this year. Speaking on a topic: “2017 a year of liberation for Biafra”, he said 2017 is a golden jubilee of Biafra spiritual battle in Nigeria. He said, “Ndigbo has run the race; and only those who have run the race well will be crowned. “So in 2017 God will lift Igbo nation above other nations; 2017 is a year all the Igbo detainees across the 36 states of Nigeria on account of agitation for Biafra will be released.” Also in his series of prophesies 2017, the General Overseer of the Pastor of the Champions Royal Assembly, Abuja, Bro Joshua iginla also predicted the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Bro Iginla added that agitation of Biafra will take another turn and that Kanu Nnamdi, the Biafra leader will face health challenges. http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/03/2017-biafra-agitation-will-bloody-kanu-will-released-pastor-iginla/ He had said, “The agitation of Biafra will take another turn. Pray so that this time it should not be bloody. We should pray for Kanu Nnamdi, the biafra leader, because I see an health challenge and I see bitterness and agitation from this same region he is coming from. “And I pray the current administration is very sensitive over the case of Nnamdi Kanu because what I see is not too good. May the Lord keep Nigeria. Will he come out? Yes! How will he come out? I can’t really tell. I see it as something divine. I don’t see legal issue as a means of removing him from there.” Kanu was granted bail on health grounds. Also prophesying for the year in Asaba, Delta state, the General Overseer of the King of Kings Deliverance Church, Prophet Emmanuel Chukwudi, made it clear that Kanu will be released this year and that would lead to the actualization of Biafra. He had said, “Tell pro-Biafrans to stop shedding tears. Their leader Nnamdi Kanu shall not remain in prison custody for too long again. “He is already on his way out. As for their [pro-Biafrans] agitations for Biafra, the Lord says it is already in the horizon. Their day shall come soon.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/04/25/kanus-release-2017-prophecies-nigerian-prophets-came-pass/ |
