Health / Top5 Most Expensive Drugs In The World And Diseases They Cure by Socialhalfcast: 10:28am On Sep 14, 2018
Top5 Most Expensive Drugs In The World And Diseases They Cure might leave you wondering about the shortcomings in life.

Your chances of survival can be estimated at approximately 10%, even if you are extremely careful with your standard of living, food intake and immediate surroundings.

Health issues like a headache can be cured for free by government-owned hospitals in some continents.

In most cases, the cost of treating victims with rare diseases might be so expensive, which might eventually run a well-established government agency down in a short period of time.

it’s a known fact that some Special drugs used in managing rare diseases have proven to be more expensive than some self-acquired luxuries or investments combined.

The research found out that some people would rather move on to the afterlife than lavishing money on some expensive drugs, which might eventually choke them to death someday because the chances of survival are below the limit of zero.

1. Glybera ($1.2 Million)
(434,124,000.00 naira)

Glybera is the trade name of Alipogene tiparvovec developed and marketed by uniQure.

This gene therapy treatment is not approved in the US -- the overwhelming cost rate might be the only possible reasons associated with the US not approving the drug use among its citizens.

Europe approved the legal recommendation of the drug which was endorsed by European Commission in 2012, it is used to treat lipoprotein lipase deficiency (LPLD), a rare inherited disorder which can cause severe pancreatitis.

As of 2016, only one person had been treated with the drug. uniQure also announced in April 2017, it will not be renewing the marketing authorization of Glybera in Europe complaining of lack of demand.

2. Luxturna ($850,000)
(307,504,500.00 naira)

Luxturna is a trade name for Voretigene neparvovec, a gene therapy for the treatment of Leber's congenital amaurosis

It was developed by Spark Therapeutics and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

This is the first gene therapy to be approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

It is considered by some people as the most expensive drug in the world due to the low demand for Glycera.

3. Ravicti ($793,000)
(286,883,610.00 naira)
Glycerol phenylbutyrate (trade name: Ravicti) is a drug manufactured by Hyperion Therapeutics (now Horizon Pharma) used for treating toxic ammonia in the blood, for people with urea cycle disorder.

Ammonia is very toxic in the blood and tissues and can lead to permanent brain damage, coma, or death.

To treat this life snatching disease, you would have to give out a whopping $793,000.

4. Soliris ($7000,000)
(253,239,000.00 naira)

Soliris is the trade name of Eculizumab, a medication used for the treatment of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS).

It is developed and manufactured by Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. in America.

In October 2017, it was certified to be able to treat adults with neuromuscular disorder generalized myasthenia gravis (GMG) who are anti-acetylcholine receptor (AchR) antibody-positive.

This is probably a mouthful of medical jargons and we wouldn't like to bore your precious day with that -- research it.

5. Brineura ($700,000)
(253,239,000.00 naira)

This was drug developed by BioMarin Pharmaceutical as, postingday.com team would rather call this drug "save a child with $700,000" drug. Ok we know, we are so bad at jokes grin .

Cerliponase alfa (marketed as Brineura) is a drug used in treating Batten disease, which is a form of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis.

The disease is an uncommon disorder (inherited) that affects the nervous system. It usually manifests in early childhood (5-10 years) with symptoms like seizures. The victims of this disease often require the use of a wheelchair or a walking aid, by late childhood and most do not survive past their teens.

The amount a patient or their family pays for Brineura treatment is affected by multiple circumstances, including manufacturer support.

Career / Top5 Jobs That Pay More Than Medicine by Socialhalfcast: 11:02am On Sep 05, 2018
Medical avenue is not the only street in the town of quick cash. To earn chunks of cash, you don’t really need to spend years in the university. Professionals of our top5 jobs that earn more than doctors spend lesser years in school.

The picked professional’s average salary is compared with that of physicians entry level. To earn more in medicine, doctors need to sacrifice more years of study after being freed from their first educational prisons — it takes close to 6 years to earn a first degree in medicine — another 7 years to earn some specialization certificate.

1. Chief Executives and Senior Officials

Companies Chief Executive Officers (CEO), Chief Financial Officers (CFO), Chief Technology Officers (CTO) and other Senior Officials earn higher salaries plus bonuses more than doctors.

These professionals make executive decisions in top companies which are worth billions of dollars and some even worth trillion such as Apple.

Also included in this category of professionals are inventors and innovators like Facebook co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

2. Air Traffic Controllers

The cost of flying around the world is not a chicken feed. The air transport companies after accruing their profits are also generous in sharing with employees.

The main function of Air Traffic Controllers is to issue landing and takeoff instructions to pilots. They ensure the safety of aircraft and other employees especially the pilots.

Do you remember the man waving a flag in front of an airplane in the last movie you watched? That is an air traffic controller. There are others too, such as those you might have also seen in movies with headphones shouting orders to pilot.

3. Aircraft Pilots and Flight Engineers

These professionals salary is determined by the type of airplane they fly and job experience, but their median salary is more than the average salary of a physician.

Flight Engineers average salary, on the other hand, is more than that of pilots. These engineers monitor aircraft systems ensuring passengers and pilots safety.

4. Petroleum Engineers

Engineers are well paid, but petroleum engineers are exceptional. With the lucrativeness of the crude oil business, to an extent countries economy depends on it, these engineers' pay is not surprising.

For instance, when a new oil reservoir is located, petroleum engineers analyze it to detect if extraction will be profitable. If so, a drilling and extraction plan to pump out the oil or gas at minimum cost are drafted.

5. Sales People and Managers

It can be argued that these professionals earn far below what a doctor would expect at the end of the month. Do not forget to also think that a successfully closed deal by this professional in a month could earn them commission worth more than the annual salary of doctors.

A real estate agent, for example, working on a commission base of 10 percent in a country like Nigeria will make about one million nairas on an initiated property purchase of ten million nairas. Selling a property of the same value every month makes them a big boy than many medical specialists in the country.

Well, performing managers too earn substantial chunks worth more than a physician's salary.

Politics / Top3 Nigerians Who Could Unseat Buhari By Postingday.com by Socialhalfcast: 10:07am On Sep 03, 2018
6 months! That’s the time left before nigerians take to the polls to elect new leaders.

The declarations and consultations have begun in earnest with some notable Nigerians already throwing their hats into the mix including popular and hilarious comedian Basket Mouth.

The battle to occupy Aso Rock come 2019 will be fierce and tough given the fact that there are over 70+ currently registered political parties today.

In this post, we will review the three potential presidential candidates that we feel has the greastest chances of dislodging the incumbent – President Mohammed Buhari

1. Bukola Saraki

Ever since he connivingly snatched the post of the President of the 8th Senate ahead of party favourite Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawal on the 9th of june 2015, the tension has been hot and thick between him, his party and the executive.

Sen. Saraki frequently made claims of the executive trying to "punish" him for defying their wishes to emerge Senate President as frequent charges of misconduct and corruption were levelled against him.

Things finally blew over when on the 31st of July, 2018 sen. Saraki announced his much anticipated defection from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to the main opposition party The People's Democratic Party (PDP) ending weeks of speculation.

The numerous "illegal impeachment attempts" and threats leveled against him, including an August invasion of the National Assembly complex by masked DSS men has endeared him to the hearts of Nigerians and helped him find some pity and sympathy among them.

Senator Bukola could be the man to unseat President Buhari as he weilds an enviable amount of infuence in the north as a two-time governor of Kwara state and given his rising fame and reputation among the populance.

2. Atiku Abubakar

A former Vice President of the nation under then president, General Olusegun Obasanjo -1999 - 2007.

Atiku first fell out with the PDP in 2007 when pres. Obasanjo would not support his bid to replace him as president instead preferring to find ways to contest for a third time.

Atiku would later run under the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) but fell short as now late PDP's candidate Gen. Musa Yaradua would emerge president.

Atiku would subsequently return to the PDP but would agin leave to join the APC in 2015, the party again failed to give him the presidential ticket, throwing it's weight behind then incumbent pres. Goodluck Jonathan who would later lose to the APC's candidate and current president, Gen. Buhari.

Atiku remained in the APC for 2 years but on the 24th of November, 2017, Atiku would via a Facebook live video announce his defection to the PDP a party he called. "Home".

Atiku gave poor governance and policy making and implementation as reasons for leaving the APC and has since remained vocal against the policies of the APC led Federal Government.

Atiku could be the right candidate to fly his party's flag come 2019 given his massive political experience and reputation as a successful business man and job creator now that unemployment is the order of the day.

3. Ayodele Peter Fayose

A two-time and current sitting governor of Ekiti State. Fayose first emerged governor of Ekiti State in 2003 but couldn't see out his 4-year tenure after he was impeached by the state assembly. Fayose returned to win back the governorship seat in 2014.

Fayose has been the most vocal of all opposition membes against the policies of the Buhari-led administration.

"A roged politician" as he loves to be called. Fayose has expressed his interest to contest in the 2019 presidential elections but may have his dreams hampered by the fact that his party would prefer a northern candidate. Fayose's popularity and fan base in the southwest could be enough to convince his party to give him the presidential ticket or at least a vice presidential ticket to a northern candidate.

Politics / 5 Reasons Why Goodluck Jonathan Was Defeated In 2015 Election By Postingday.com by Socialhalfcast: 7:50pm On Sep 01, 2018
The outcome of the general election, was absolutely the talk of every country. Each stakeholder was placed under a vigorous scrutiny and high blood pressure.

The world at large was on heel, while the various parties involved accepted defeat positively and negatively.

Today, we have summed up, the Top5 reasons the former President- Goodluck Jonathan was defeated.

1. Constitutional Disadvantage

Jonathan from day one after the death of Musa Yar’Adua whom he was his vice president, has been facing constitution interpretation challenges.

There was a heated debate in the PDP circle, because base on an undocumented agreement of power zoning, a northerner is expected to complete Yar’ Adua’s tenure to ensure the north successful completion of their term in office.

Also, another constitution interpretation against him in 2015 is that “nobody can be sworn into office more than twice” and Jonathan having been sworn-in in 2010 after the death of Yar’Adua and also in 2011 when he won the election, he was not expected to contest in 2015 election according to PDP’s constitution.

2. Wife Issues

It might surprise you to hear that the former first lady was one of the causes of her husband’s downfall. You might be asking the same question as every other person, HOW?

Madam Dame created many enemies than her husband could handle. One of them was Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who she reportedly referred to as “Hausa Boy” in a phone call she made to him, as written by a veteran journalist, Olusegun Adeniyi.

3.Trust Issues

Why does this heading sound so similar to Drakes music TRUST ISSUES? , IS THERE ANY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEM? .Time for the big reveal

Many PDP stakeholders who defected to other parties, APC especially, said that the reason why they left is that Jonathan does not trust anyone. His rift made strong stakeholders to leave the party such as former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, who became a strong opposing force to his re-election.

4. Unexpected Merge

Did you just say that was obvious? Bring your head for a knock. Although this is the mighty blow that sent Jonathan back to Otueke, nobody ever saw the coalition between CPC and ACN happening in 2015 ― not after the failure of the first attempt in 2011.

This coalition unmistakably converges the power of small parties to match against the giant party, PDP. The merger could be said to be chiefly engineered by a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu (a.k.a Jagaban) after Jonathan administration came down on him. Tinubu enrolled Jonathan in his enemy list afterward.

5. Failure Of Orubebe's Plot

The reason why 'the boy who has no shoes was defeated', the shout of complaint by the former Niger Delta Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe, was part of a master plan to disrupt the election when it was discovered that Jonathan was losing ground. Kidnapping of then INEC chairman, Prof. Otairu Jega, was also part of the master plan. If it had been successful, Jonathan might still be in office
