givedemwotowoto: Is this why Nigerians must starve before they can afford to own passports?
How are other countries of the world including African countries doing it such that the cost of passport processing is a fraction of the minimum wage? Go and tell that to airlines when you want to pay for your ticket. And how is minimum wage the yardstick for determining the price of an International passport?! You mean if your minimum wage is #100,000 you will use all of it to purchase a passport instantly when your salary is paid?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Is that how you will go about it?! Lol.😂 That is not rational. You will have to save to be able to afford it because there are other needs aside using the whole of your salary to purchase an international passport at once. |

So, i hope the immigration officers would change their ways, too. They should not ask applicants for extra as we all know that 100k for passport is on the high side already compared to our minimum wage. Thank you The already have. Haven't you all been praising Mr Tunji Ojo the Interior Minister for the wonderful improvements in the immigration sector especially passport availability without crying before getting one?! |

It may help to be transparent in this dealing . Let's know where the money is going to, how much it cost to print a passport, its processes and all. Not against the increment but just want to sure it's justified. Now you are talking which is very reasonable. |

People are talking about affordability with respect to mini wage. You are here changing the story. No wonder other commenters don tire for your matter... Wetin dey worry you. I wan say thing to get nairala.... They are on your side, i guess. You can't eat you cake and still have it. Do you have the statistics of the number of Nigerians who were able to get an international passport when the price was 'affordable'?! You just like to argue. When the price was 'affordable' the challenges in getting a passport was so much that time and money was so wasted. That was the reality! Today it is different which comes with it's own price. You can't eat your cake and still have it. |

Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to move freely within Nigeria and to enter and exit the country. a valid passport is essential for international travel. Therefore, the right to leave and enter the country implies a right to the document that facilitates this travel.
I hope you would apply a sense of reasoning and understanding after reading the above Where did it say it is free?! Owning a passport is a privilege. |

FILEBE: Does this mean the citizens of Nigeria can't enjoy quality service even if it is cheap? What then the citizens stand to enjoy.
It would have been best to fix thr loopholes in getting this passport and make sure the system is efficient enough for all first. Enough to curb corruption in the sector . This could be done first and the citizens won't blame the need for an increase because it will be justified. The increase in price closes the loophole because a lot of services are contracted out to private firms who are profit oriented and very efficient. An international traveling passport is a privilege it is not automatic. |

kushme: Oh no. Dont start. You are not close to simple. Stop using that word. . Is NIN an alternate for travel passport for citizens? Don't other countries have Nin(equivalent), is it an alternate to their travel passport? Like i said, it is a calculated scheme by the tax collectors to discourage people who earn less from leaving, knowing fully well we have very large number of these people stressing to move out. The suppression is real. And there is no plan or concrete program like China to help the people come out of poverty.
They are comparing travel passport and mini wages of other countries to that of Naija, and you had to bring up a local id. Even the best countries in the globe don't use local id for international travel. Wetin dey worry you self. You are running in circles. Get your logic straight. Is every citizen entitled to a travel passport? |

kushme: Why won't you simply see the logic behind minimum wage and a national document? For every working citizen earning a minimum wage, he or she should be able to afford a passport from their mini wages. You were given examples of other countries but you still wouldn't see reason.
If not for wickedness, a country where many citizens don't even make the mini' wage, only for the document being increased. We know that, the increase scheme is to discourage people of less than minimum wages the option or hope of seeking a life out side nigeria. You talked about airticket not cheap. You don't even have an air national carrier.
Airline is a transport business of individuals and coorperations trying to make profits based on costs and other factors of business. Why compare with a document that every citizen is entitled to? If you can't afford air ticket, use your identity follow land, or sea dey go. Dey break the journey until you reach your destination(adventure things) That is why you have NIN. Simple! |
