To you everything is bribe.

May we get it right in 2027 by kicking this terrorist party out of our national lives.
Nlfpmod, please Nigerians need to see how low Nigeria has descended under this incompetent president, Bola tinubu. The escalation of the booth brouhaha is unnecessary. Why do we always focus on trivialities. Obi should focus on how to have people who will stand as party agents for him during elections. He had empty representations across the country could have stood as witnesses and could have defended his votes as party agents during elections. |

DaddyJapan: How does this letter address the concerns @Jakumo raised?
If his interpretation of the law he quoted is correct - note that I have not read it myself - surely, we all need to be alarmed by its blatant overreach as well as the excessive penalties it prescribes.
We model our nation's imperfect democracy on the United States' and United Kingdom's. Yet in both these countries, people do not go to jail simply for arguing a case for secession or republicanism. Why is it that neither you nor @helinues appear to be remotely pertubed by what appears to be a draconian law, even though you know damn well that it infringes on our civil liberties. Are you so blinded by party loyalty that your critical thinking skills have been completely eroded? Lies! People go to the jail. Many are in jail for their utterances and actions in especially the United States of America. Once again Softmirror: Opinions should not just be opinions, opinions should be made based on facts and should also be expressed in a very civil manner that is constructive intented to make correction. So my point again. Softmirror: Free speech has limitations even in the United States of America. You can't use your social media handle to be threatening the government without suffering the consequences. Just like Nnamdi Kanu is facing the consequences of his speeches. |

Truvelisback: Inflation and the devaluation of Naira is also affecting most business men and women. Many folks can no longer afford new or quality food or goods e.g new cars. Many car owners have dumped their cars for public buses. As a result, fake products are now rampart. As long as poverty rate is very high, it means nothing. Are you one of those who cant afford qualify food have you also dumped your car for public transportation? |

In the meantime I also look forward to hearing from other Nairaland writers, regarding how this new press law will affect their future conduct as online opinion commentators, bearing in mind the greatly broadened scope of what can now be construed as illegal expressions of opinion. You can see how insincere you are. There is absolutely nothing wrong with expressing one's opinion, criticism on social media in a clear cut constructive way. |

Jakumo: I fail to recognize how this rather dated letter is relevant to this discussion of press freedom and freedom of speech. Is it a fact or not?! You are running away. When I said opinions should be backed by facts I know what I am talking about. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria's 2025 Cyber Crime Laws Include LIFE Jail For Advocating Fragmentation. by Softmirror: 9:41am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Jakumo: The definition of what "facts" are, is not always clear-cut, and is open to variable interpretation. For example, one report claims 27 people lost their lives in a recent northern Nigeria mosque attack by terrorists, while the death toll in the same incident might be reported as 33 people by yet another news outlet.
There is no way of telling which of those two figures is "the truth", but that ambiguity should not be allowed to become the basis for prosecuting any writer who goes online to assign blame for the insecurity in that area to government officials who funded the unlawful immigration and arming of gunmen from Nigeria or Chad, to suppress their opposition followers during election season.
The wording of the new law also places discussion forum website operators such as our Oga Seun in grave danger BECAUSE this new law attempts to hold forum operators, and even WhatsApp chat group administrators, legally liable and culpable for ANYTHING written by total strangers in their website's discussion forum. Anyone complaining about the new more aggressive spam bot now prowling the Nairaland forum can better understand why this rigorous self-censorship is a matter of life and liberty for website owners who must remain on the right side of changing laws in Nigeria. Is this a FACT below. If it is not what is it?!

Romance › Re: How Do People Manage To Stay Friends With Their Exes? ? by Softmirror: 9:37am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Ericmaestrooffi: Call me childish or whatever but I don’t keep friends or contact with any of my ex regardless of how the relationship ended. Immediately the relationship ends I block and delete everything that reminds me of them, contact , pictures e.t.c Currently I don’t have any of my exes contact on my phone, early this year I had to change my number so I cut ties totally with all of them.
I don’t see them as my enemies or anything of sort, as a matter of fact I wish them well but it’s from a distance, I can’t imagine being just friends with someone I once loved unless the feelings wasn’t genuine. Most people I shared this view with says I’m childish and there’s nothing wrong with being friends with an ex but for me I think cutting you off is the surest way for me to move on.
What do you think? Some became ex due to their genotype not being compatible. |
Politics › Re: JUST IN: Police Officers In Angela Okorie’s Viral Video Dismissed By Nigeria Pol by Softmirror: 9:35am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Brendaniel: I'm not wrong, look at your approach to solving this problem here, isn't it clear, that's how you people including Tinubu do your things....
dismissing the officers did not solve the underlying problem, If I were to be in charge I won't dismiss the officers, they might get punishment, but I would go after those who assigned them to her in the first place then place a ban on assigning police officers to anyone who is not a government official that actually requires by law police officers, only the court can grant police protection to an individual based on certain cases that might be before it.
Then the police should work with private security firms to give them license to carry arms, that way private security firms will be regulated by the police, this will boost the private security business in the country, so if you feel you need protection, go to private firms and spend your money, you can't be using the police which is not even enough for Nigerians for private use...
isn't this a better way to solve the problem, even if Angela or any person wants to use the private security to do jogging or act porn, it is her money, nobody will be bothered, do you know that the number of police men attached to private individuals and politicians are more than the police men doing work for the remaining Nigerians?
Isn't that a problem to you and Tinubu? maybe not, that's you people will call dismissal a solution to a problem that is systemic, imagine dismissing police officers when their number is not even enough and the cause of their dismissal has not been solved...
You see why I said you people like attacking symptoms and leaving the problems unsloved.... You are only assuming that someone assigned them to her. Do you know the person who assigned them to her?! Policemen who go out to brutilize people on the streets on behalf of their girlfriends get assigned by higher officials before the engage in such acts. |

Brendaniel: The officers did not assign themselves to Angela Okorie, there is a systemic problem which is bigger than the police officers getting dismissed, that is what the police should be tackling, if it is tackled these police officers won't even be assigned to her in the first place, the police officers are only victims of that systemic rot.
One thing I have noticed about you guys including Tinubu is that you people love fighting symptoms of problems while the underlying cause keeps getting worse, that's why Nigeria is where it is today, as they've dismissed these officers, does it change anything to others still doing the same all over the country?
No, the only reason why we saw this is because it was caught on Camera, the underlying cause is still all over... You are wrong with respect to the bolded. It still remains that you are not happy with the dismissal of those officers. |
