Abductions by these bandits occurs every day. It’s is the media that has failed us in putting them in the spotlight. Also, our people are now insensitive to the abduction news as long as the victim is not a close relative.

Just two months ago, a friend’s mom and many other passengers were abducted along Ondo state to Edo and killed by the bandits after collecting ransom from his family. It was during this period that we began to see various news of kidnappings happening everyday, many that don’t make it to the mainstream media. In fact, when they called the police, the police complained they still have hundreds of same bandit cases still unsolved.

This is when it dawned on me that we have become insensitive to these abduction story. It is when when it hits close that we begin to see the numerous cases happening everyday.

The news of bandit abduction and killings was far away until my friend’s mum became a victim. Perhaps I would have made the same statement you made above if I didn’t personally know a victim and become privy to the extent of kidnapping cases happening everyday. But I know better. I pray you don’t fall a victim.
