Why they are moving against Osinbajo

By ETIM ETIM

Since Vice President Yemi Osinbajo launched his presidential campaign over a week ago, a huge avalanche of malicious, false and cruel campaigns have been unveiled by various interest groups against him. From my findings, these evil and fabricated messages are mostly sponsored by other APC Presidential aspirants who feel threatened by the entrance of the VP into the race. Supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been particularly mean-spirited, vengeful and malevolent in their attacks against the VP. I am also reliably informed that devotees of Chibuike Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, who is also in the race, have joined in pouring invectives on the VP. Another notoriously angry crusader against the VP is Farooq Kperogi, a bigoted fellow acting as a lone wolf to wage hateful attacks against an innocent man for no obvious reason. Kperogi's allegation that the VP favours only his church members in making appointments is baseless, unfounded and unjustifiable. Of over 80 staffers in the VP's Office, only four are in his church, and many others are people of different faith. I think that Kperogi just wants to attract attention to himself and draw out members of the Christian community for a fight by relentlessly attacking Prof Osinbajo and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). We won't do him that favour.

So, in the last one week or so, these discontented crusaders have been spewing out corrosive articles and fabricated allegations against the Vice President all in attempt to bring him to disrepute and cow him out of the race. They're frustrated by the wide acceptability of the VP by ordinary folks across party lines in all the nooks and crannies of the country. Apparently nobody gave Prof Osinbajo a blinking chance in this race. They are incensed that the VP's message has resonated well with ordinary Nigerians, and his ''Likeability Factor'' is the strongest among the aspirants. They are startled that Osinbajo, whom they had earlier thought would not have the courage to run, is now the front runner and the leading aspirant. Meek, soft spoken and gentle in manners, the VP does not cut a picture of a typical Nigerian politician who talks bombastically, throws his weight around and splashes stolen money at everybody and every occasion. While Tinubu and Amaechi are infamous for scotched earth politics in their respective domains (their inability to accommodate those with opposing interests are well known), Osainbajo had spent the last seven years working hard and supporting the President to deliver on his agenda to Nigerians. A few days ago, Amaechi went to consult the Ooni of Ife and boastfully declared that he is the best of all the aspirants in both the APC and PDP. What a cheek! This is a man whose tenure as Rivers State governor was a monumental failure. But I will leave Amaechi for now because I know that Gov. Wike is on his case.

Bola Tinubu's response has been very pathetic since Prof. Osinbajo announced his interest in the race. The old man has been huffing and puffing around, sulking and bemoaning, with his supporters throwing tantrums and insults with reckless abandon. Over the weekend, Tinubu went overboard by launching scathing personal attacks against President Buhari. At a rally in Onikan, Lagos, the septuagenarian (actually his real age, parentage and educational background are all hazy) accused the President of being full of excuses and too weak to fight terrorism. He attacked virtually every policy of the government, including the barring of some telephone lines not linked to National Identity data, an action taken strictly for security reasons.

In all my years in Nigerian politics, no aspirant has been so brutal against a President elected on the same party as his. I understand that Tinubu is planning to come out in a full ballistic manner against President Buhari. PDP is happy with him. Asiwaju is enraged that the President is not handing him the Presidency on a platter of gold. In fact, I understand that the President does not even have confidence in Asiwaju's state of mind and physical abilities. I don't either.

Discouraged and disgruntled, Tinubu's supporters are busy manufacturing asinine commentaries, the most senseless being that the VP has betrayed Tinubu by deciding to run. You can only betray someone if you had entered into an agreement with the person. There is no such pact between the VP and the former Lagos governor. The fact that Prof. Osinbajo had served as Attorney Generl in Lagos when Tinubu was governor cannot debar the VP from running against Tinubu. Those touting the betrayal theory have therefore reduced the Nigerian presidency to a kind a Tinubu heirloom - an object that has belonged to his family for several generations, to which nobody else dares contest for. It is a poor sense of judgement if Tinubu's sole strategy in the contest for the presidency is based on blackmailing Osinbajo. Nobody wins a major presidential ticket by elevating his sense of entitlement as a key achievement.

Since 1999, Tinubu has been the Lord Manor of Lagos State, where he decides who is the governor, councillors, House of Assembly members, the market leader, refuse collectors, revenue collectors and just about anybody else. He has Lagos in his pocket, and now he wants the whole country. Nigeria has become a prize well sought for by Tinubu as the crowning glory of his past political victories. That is why he does not want anybody, the VP least of all, to challenge his ''lifelong ambition''.

In 2019, the Lord Manor disallowed then Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode opportunity to go for a second term. Tinubu adamantly refused all entreaties from President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo and other eminent persons to give Ambode a fair chance. Tinubu brooks no opposition. If you offend him, you're gone. I understand that the Ambode experience was an eye opener to the Presidency on the type of person Asiwaju really is. ''If he could turn down an appeal from the President to save Ambode, what else could he do or not do if he ascends the top job? Who could stand in his way? The true character of Tinubu is well known to many people in the party, and he would never be the President'', an APC governor told me in a private conversation last week.

In conclusion, let me repeat that in modern democracies across the globe, the Vice Presidents are usually the first in line to, or the favoured ones to succeed their bosses. Yemi Osinbajo has the right to run and present his case to Nigerians. Only the voters will determine his fate.
This article is nothing but DELUSIONAL.
First Osinbajo is not by any means a front runner and the Buhari is not going to anoint him.
Second, if the president has confidence in him, why was he removed from the social and economic program of his government recently.
Third, when and how is interogating the VP records on the economy tartamount to an attack?
Fourth, there is no need for us keep arguing over SPECULATIONS HERE AND THERE. IN THE NEXT FOURTY DAYS THE CAST WILL BE CAST!!

Unfortunately, you read nonsense and can't even comprehend deceptive intonations.
So,the campaign was- Buhari for Security and Osinbajo for Economy- from when did Osinbajo was ever allowed to independently choose his Economic team! So,in your imagination whose appointment is the Finance Minister serving or who appointed the Humanitarian and Disaster Minister.
We know why Osinbajo has frequently been attacked- is because of a stumbling block to so many of those who can't win their wards not to talk of States! Una wellcome!
You are missing the point. All appointees are there to IMPLEMENT a government economic policy.
The person delegated to run the economy, the VP , responsibility is to coordinate and ensure that the economic plan IS PROPERLY IMPLEMENTED BY ALL.
He failed to do this hence the current PARLOUS STATE OF THE ECONOMY.

You arguing blindly. The VP has no executive powers independent of his principal. His role is purely advisory and the President can override any of his decision at will. Moreover, it is foolishness for anyone to hold the VP responsible for both the monetary and fiscal policies which are constitutionally within the purview of both the CBN Governor and Finance minister. But I wouldn't expect block heads to understand either.
I disagree. The president DELEGATED THE MANAGENT OF THE EVONOMY TO HIM. ARE YOU DISPUTING THIS FACT?
Are saying the CBN governor or any minister can decide on a policy CONTRARY to the economic policy of the government of the day?

There's nothing true in the whole write-up.

1. Osinbajo has since been relieved of his position as head of the economic team. While he was there, he founded the Market Moni shceme and several other programs that made business people fall in love with him.

2. Osinbajo's activity is not directly related to the rising cost of Commodities. Blame Emefiele for that. Emefiele made dollar scarce, giving rise to the eventual fall of the naira, since scarcity breeds price increase. Osinbajo is not to blame but rather the wicked Emefiele.

3. It has been said that Osinbajo had Tinubu's blessings to declare for president. Even if he doesn't, Tinubu cannot use his own selfishness to kill the destiny of another. After 8yrs of a Muslim presidency, another 8yrs of another Muslim presidency cannot fly. Osinbajo knows that Tinubu won't be in the race, hence it would be foolish of him to waste this golden opportunity. In the pursuit of destiny, Osinbajo's declaration cannot be taken as disloyalty. Only fools would reason that way. No one kills his destiny simply because of another. Nigerians are calling for an Osinbajo presidency. He cannot betrays Nigerians, and Nigerians are bigger than Tinubu.

4. Osinbajo's sack of Buharis cousin isn't disloyalty. That shows a man who knows that Buhari is wrong in many ways, but the wrong is enthroned only because Osinbajo is not the one in
power. This particular point establishes the fact that Osinbajo cannot be bullied as president, contrary to some schools of thought alleging that he'll be a weak president.
First let me thank you for specifically addressing the points UNLKIE OTHERS WHO THINKS CRITICISING A CANDIDATES RECORDS IS CALUMNY!
To your first premise. You, in way, admitted that the VP was given the RESPONSIBILITY OF MANAGING THE ECONOMY, your only EXCUSE IS THAT HE WAS NOT FULLY IN CHARGE!!
Honestly I find this excuse EMBARASSING. First the monetary policy is usually defined at the ECONOMIC PLANNING LEVEL. The CBN Governor cannot deviate from the economic plan just like the VP CANNOT BE IN CHARGE OF THE ECONOMY AND ABDICATE FROM MONETARY AND OTHER FISCAL POLICIES. THAT WILL BE THE HEIGHT OF INCOMPETENCE!
Secondly, if he was given responsibility but was not in charge, did he complain to the president?
The VP himself said he and the PRESIDENT NEVER HAD A SINGLE DISAGREEMENT FOR SEVEN YEARS
Is he being PATHETICALLY SYCOPHANTIC OR JUST PLAIN DECEPTIVE?
The point is why WAS HE SACKED AND RELIEVED OF THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ECONOMY.
WHEN AND WHY WAS HE SACKED AND REMOVED FROM THE SOCIAL PROGRAMS BY THE PREDIDENT?
SIMPLE. BECAUSE HE FAILED.
We are bearing the BRUNT of his failure through HIGH INFLATION, SCANDALOUS EXCHANGE RATE, HIGH DEBT PROFILE, HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT.
THE VP IS NOTHING BUT AN AGENT OF GLOOM, DOOM AND LAMENTATION!

I've been trying to x-ray the various aspirants that have thrown in their hats in the ring for the presidential ticket of the APC.

Out of the many names flying around, I've decided to pick four of them as the serious ones in the race. They are:

Yahaya Bello
Amaechi
Osinbajo
Tinubu

I tried to assess these four frontliners vis a vis their chances of emergence as APC presidential flag bearer. I just had to pause for a while and ask myself what does Vice President Osinbajo truly have? I just can't see him in this race at all. Besides waiting for "anointing oil" from Buhari, Osinbajo doesn't have any political base anywhere in Nigeria.

Yahaya Bello has the Kogi State APC structure in his control.
Tinubu has the Lagos State APC structure in his control.
Amaechi has the Rivers State APC structure in his control. This is a very good start from home for these three aspirants in terms of delegates count.

However, Osinbajo doesn't have that of Lagos where he ran away from nor that of Ogun where he ran to. I think the VP may just have been wrongly advised by some sycophants to embark on this political suicide. It's definitely going to end in shame for him. I don't expect some emotional political neophytes to agree with me but the results of the primary will clear their ignorance. Please save this post for reference after the primary.

Again I ask what does Osinbajo truly have?
But he had about seven years to have at least built something. The man is simply very selfish and self- centered.
I will give a simple example:
In 2015, APC WON in VGC the VP's polling booth
Four years later, as VP, APC LOST THE SAME VGC in 2019 presidential election.
Disgracefully within FOUR YEARS HE SQUANDERED THE PARTY'S GOOD WILL WITH NEIGHBOURS.
IT IS A LIE THAT APC LOST BECAUSE OF THE ETHNIC COMPOSITION IN VGC.
A WEEK AFTER THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, APC WON THE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN THE SAME VGC POLLING UNIT.
Please I challenge anybody to research the VERACITY OF MY ASSERTIONS
