To understand why evangelical Nigerian Christians are madly in love with the State of Israel, you have to understand the context of and the opposition to The Replacement Theology.

The notion that only the Israelites are God's chosen people is widely held in evangelical/Pentecostal Christian communities across Nigeria. That God made an enduring covenant with Israel is the core of this pervading belief system that found its way into Nigerian Pentecostal Christianity, shaped by American Christian Zionists.

However, Replacement Theology challenges this doctrine of God's ever lasting covenant with Israel. Since the Jews rejected Jesus Christ, it was argued that they stopped being God's own people, and that the Church, consisting of Jews and Gentile believers in Christ, is the new Israel. Replacement Theology, which is based on the replacement of Israel, the transfer of promises, the abolition of Old Covenant and the non-existence of a Jewish homeland, dates back to the early centuries of Christianity.

Staunch opposition to replacement theology began in the 19th and 20th centuries spearheaded by Protestant movements and in 1965 The Second Vatican Council adopted the document Nostra Aeteta, which validated the existence of God's covenant with Israel, contrary to its old stance.

Finally, the emergence of the State of Israel in 1948 sealed the opposition to the Replacement Theology. Many Nigerian Christians tend to be unequivocally pro-Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They often view Israel as the biblical "chosen people" and see the conflict through a spiritual lens. Just like in the US, influential Nigerian pastors lead mega-churches with millions of followers. Many of these pastors openly advocate for Israel, preach sermons on its biblical significance, and organize prayer and support initiatives for the nation. For instance, the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, publicly expressed solidarity with Israel during recent conflicts.

This is the reason why you see many Christians worship or elevate the State of Israel and this explains why millions of Nigerian Christians are Zionists by default.

This morning, I came across a deeply disturbing video, one that no parent, no citizen, and no human being should ever have to witness. A young boy, full of dreams and promise, on his way to write his WAEC examination in Ìbàdàn, Oyo State, was struck and killed by a stray bullet. Not fired during a robbery, not during a rescue operation, but by a police officer recklessly discharging his weapon in public.

Eyewitnesses said the police were pursuing a group of young boys, whether in a car or a Keke Maruwa remains unclear. No crime was reported; the pursuit seemed to be nothing more than a desperate attempt at extortion, a sadly familiar scene in today's Nigeria. And when they couldn’t catch up to the young men, they allegedly opened fire, on a public road, during school and work rush hour.

That bullet, senselessly fired, found its way to an innocent child, a boy merely trying to write an exam that could shape his future. Now, that future has been stolen. A life cut short. A family plunged into unimaginable grief.

How did we come to this?

This is not an isolated case of a rogue officer; it is a reflection of the rot in our policing system. A reflection of unchecked power, of weapons in the hands of the unqualified, of a force that has lost its purpose.

Why are police officers patrolling civilian streets with military-grade AK-47s, especially when there’s no visible threat or criminal activity? Decades ago, police officers carried nothing more than a short baton, "Ọ̀pá" and that's why we do call them "Ọlọ́pà". Then, you rarely heard of a police officer "accidentally" killing someone. Today, such stories are tragically routine. Every day, it seems, another innocent soul falls to a bullet fired by those meant to protect.

The Nigeria Police Service Commission is failing in its duty. It is clear that many of those wearing police uniforms today lack not just training, but emotional stability, discipline, and even basic humanity. How are such individuals being recruited and armed? How are psych evaluations and background checks being ignored?

This is why the Nigerian Police Force must not just be reformed, it must be completely dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up.

To those who opposed the EndSARS protest and mocked the cries against police brutality: can you see now? These bullets do not discriminate. You could be next. Your child, your friend, your spouse, no one is exempt from the recklessness of these armed officers. Whether in your car, on your way to work, or simply walking down the street, the next stray bullet could find you.

The government may continue to turn a blind eye, pretending all is well, but a nation that kills its future is digging its own grave. This silence, this tolerance of state-sponsored violence, will only lead to more anger, more chaos, and more bloodshed.

To the Nigerian government: Please, The time for committees and empty press statements has long passed. Real action is needed, starting with justice for this boy, and others like him. Begin a proper vetting of all police personnel. Withdraw military-grade weapons from routine patrols. Re-educate the police on what it means to serve and protect.

To the grieving parents of the fallen child, no words can truly console you. But may this nation finally wake up, and may your son's death not be in vain.

If I ever had the opportunity to serve as a state governor in Nigeria, I would implement comprehensive reforms in the real estate sector.

First, I would regulate real estate agencies to ensure that only government-registered and licensed agents are allowed to operate. Licenses would be subject to permanent revocation in cases of fraud, misconduct, or unethical practices.

Second, I would fully digitize the housing sector to improve transparency, accountability, and accessibility. A central database would track property listings, tenancy agreements, agent credentials, and rental history.

I would also introduce standardized rent control policies, setting price caps based on location, property type, and market value. Arbitrary charges such as “agreement” and “commission” fees would be abolished. In their place, a regulated agent service fee would be introduced, capped at ₦20,000 - ₦50,000 for a standard two-bedroom apartment, and ₦70,000 - ₦100,000 for a duplex.

Nigeria's real estate sector urgently needs sanitization. The current level of disorder, exploitation, and unchecked practices has spiraled beyond control. Strategic reform is not just necessary, it is long overdue.
