There was pandemonium in Benin, yesterday, as an explosion destroyed about five houses in Sakponba area of Edo State capital city.

Residents of Zomi Zomi Street in Upper Sakpoba Road ran for safety when they heard the loud noise that came with the explosion at about 3p.m., as many claimed that Boko Haram insurgents had invaded the city.

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) South-East Zone, has given Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, a 14- day ultimatum to recall over 3,000 state workers he sacked recently as well as apologise to them.Zonal Chairman, Mr Uzor Uzor, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Enugu, said sacking the workers without just cause or explanation was uncivilised and undemocratic.

Uzor said if the governor did not reverse the sack, CD would mobilise to lock down the state.
“We have given Gov. Okorocha as a mark of respect, 14 days to apologise to Imo workers for this embarrassment,’’ he said.
Uzor said that the governor should know that Imo was not the only state in the country facing current economic difficulties.

Boko Haram insurgents invaded Babangida town, Tarmowa local government area of Yobe State, early Sunday.The sect members were, however, chased away by vigilant soldiers.

The Federal Government, yesterday, docked the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on a six-count criminal charge bordering on treasonable felony.

This came just as the Rivers State Police Command arraigned ten pro-Biafra protesters in Port-Harcourt.
Kanu was arraigned alongside two other pro-Biafra agitators, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
The trio took turns and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mr. Mohammed Diri.

This came as ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, wrote President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that top members of his party, All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa and Delta states were responsible for the ongoing vandalization of crude oil and gas pipelines in the creeks of Delta state.

The Lagos State Government, has placed Ahmmadiyyah Hospital, Ojokoro, in Lagos where the patient with the first Lassa fever virus case was first admitted. under surveillance.In a statement released by Dr Jide Idris, the Lagos State commissioner for Health on Saturday, the 15 in-patients and other 25 health workers in the facility are being monitored.

“Ahmmadiyyah Hospital where the first case of the disease in Lagos was reported is now under surveillance and there will be no service delivery in the facility until further notice” Idris said.
“The 15 in-patients and other 25 health workers in the facility are being monitored.”
“The deadly disease was purportedly contacted by a 25-year-old male undergraduate student of the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria in Kaduna State,” the statement made available to newsmen, added.

Idris said that the Lassa fever case was the first occurrence in the state claiming that the government was doing its best to curtail its spread.

John and his wife Josephine live a few hours north of Nairobi. Josephine is HIV positive, John is negative.

He says such situations can be difficult. "I've known couples who have separated", he says.
There are 26,0000 couples in Kenya where one partner is positive and the other negative. Known as serodiscordant couples, they account for 44% of new HIV infections in the country. Despite this, 44% of these couples have had children together.

A bus taking passengers to a ski resort in central Japan has veered off a mountain road, killing 14 people and injuring 27.
The bus, with 41 people on board, was travelling overnight from Tokyo to a resort in Nagano prefecture.

The accident happened near the town of Karuizawa early on Friday.
It is not immediately clear what caused the crash as there was no snow or ice on the road. Japan's transport ministry has launched an investigation.

Health officials in Sierra Leone have confirmed a death from Ebola, hours after the World Health Organization declared the West Africa outbreak over.
The country was declared free of the virus on 7 November, and the region as a whole was cleared when Liberia was pronounced Ebola-free on Thursday.
But two tests conducted on a person who died in northern Sierra Leone proved positive for the virus,
The death occurred earlier this week.
