Go check almost all combat videos in open terrain. You never see the enemy. Majority of the firefight is suppressive.

The only types you can see the enemy is CQB, or close quarters battle, such as clearing a building or trench. These are direct actions often engaged by special forces.

Suppressive fire is from a machine gun! This video is pot shot. Only 1 machine Gunner there and the rest are retreating, the video shouldn't have been shared as gallant defense, it shows nig soldiers retreating under pot shots and can't sustain the suppressive fire

99% of real battles you don't even see the enemy, you don't know exactly how far away they're, or their weapon types, etc. You just return fire in the general direction of the incoming rounds, keep your heads low, and maneuver tactically out of the killbox if ambushed.
