Music/Radio / P-square “double Trouble” Album Couldn’t Have Been More Prosaic – The MOB’S Take by soltesh(m): 3:07pm On Sep 25, 2014
ALBUM: DOUBLE TROUBLE
ARTIST: P-SQUARE
RELEASED: 2014

I must say that the predictably banal title of P-square’s sixth studio album did little to heighten my expectation as I copped the album. However, after a thorough appraisal, here’s my candid thought on this work. grin

The Double Trouble album couldn’t have started, for me, on a more unimpressive note than it did with shekini. I mean, what is shekini kini kini ki…? This song is nothing but soft-witted ramblings slapped unto a patently unimaginative, sekem-esque beat. Or how else can one explain this line,

“I get the power, I no dey bother, I no be footballer but I sabi do the Ronaldo.” Well…

Next song is Missing you, a typical P-square love song except for the largely unremarkable production with a bassline quite akin to the one on Waconzy’s “celebrate” song. Nothing special.

Bring it on starts with an unassuming piano intro accompanied by Dave Scott’s transcendental vocals, confidently urging the listener to, Bring it on, before Paul chimes in with a sub-par verse which they make up for with the second verse. Dave Scott almost single handedly made this song the jam that it is with his masterfully delivered chorus. You’ve got to love the measured way in which Dave’s trained voice falls on the beats; simply professional, you can’t wing it.

I like the chorus of the MMS{Mugu Money Spender) song and the up-tempo vibe, but again, it also feels too much like a Runtown/MC Galaxy type of song to me; a turn off for me. See if you agree.

Ifeoma is another typical P-square love song with the usual basic, nondescript beat. However, lines like: “and all the things wey she do nobody can replace her, and when she vex she waka nobody fit trace her,” and “I’m down on my knees and I’m begging you please,” just made the song unbearable for me.

Finally, Ejeajo comes to the rescue. This tune heightened my interest in the album. This is the kind of creative leap I expect from a huge band like P-square, if only they kept the creative juice flowing at this level, if only. Although T.I was unintelligible some of the time, it didn’t take much away from the song. Shout out to V-Tec for this jam. The beat is international and there was real effort in the arrangement.

When the biggest artists in your country collaborate to make music and the end product is Collabo, you know something’s sorely amiss. Collabo is an unflattering caricature of all that Music should be. Ronaldo again?? Na wa o. Don Jazzy should have turned this one down; but no, we must sing!

Ogadigide was the better written love song on this album, and I like it.

While No be joke was a fair R&B jam, Enemy solo was, for me, the alpha villain of the project. What is this newfangled obsession with Awilo about biko? And why is the Nigerian act hell bent on making makossa trendy again? I’ll tell you why; we crave shortcuts, cheap music, and abhor mental exertion.

Moving on, If you are finding it difficult to conjecture what a song titled Sari Sari would sound like, even before listening; you’re either not from here or you need to work on your imagination. Otherwise, your guess is probably as good as mine.

Zombie ft Jermaine Jackson: This is another huge jam!! I love the James-Brown-style funk feel of the song. The songwriting, production, arrangement and choice of feature, were all deserving of praise; it’s a joy from start to finish. I love this song.

Music/Radio / Album Review: The Art Of Wizkid "A.Y.O" Album Is Bland by soltesh(m): 6:53pm On Sep 24, 2014
Artist: Wizkid
Tracks: 18 (+1 Bonus)
Album Title: A.Y.O (JOY)
Label: Empire Mates Entertainment / Star Boy Music
Release Date: September 17, 2014
By: Tola

Last week saw the early release of Wizkid’s anticipated sophomore album; a 19 track release, a third of which consists of songs that have been out for at least a quarter. Most listeners would have heard those songs before, as such they interrupt the intended flow of the album.

Show You The Money, (a track that sees Wizkid’s best delivery for a while), is followed by In My Bed. The second half of this song sounds exactly like the aforementioned track, down to the melody he uses. Mummy Mi is a decent track on its own, but dude drops a line to his mother on almost every other song on the album. Ojuelegba is the standout track on the album, a chilled mid-tempo production by Star Boy’s in-house duo, Legendury Beatz. This track is a delight, it samples Leon Haywood’s I want a Do Something Freaky To You, a joint first sampled on Nuthin But A G Thang by Dre, which serves to make it more appealing, I’ll be playing this song for a while. Kind of Love follows, this song is plagued by the same issue others are, lazy song writing, the melody is pleasing enough but if only more effort was put into crafting the song in its entirety.

The second third of the album has only one pre released track, On Top Your Matter, this song was sweet when it was released at the top of the year, it remains so. Seyi Shay and Akon are featured on different tracks, on both songs Wizkid was underwhelming, on In Love, he could not match the vocal playfulness of Seyi Shay nor could he rise to Akon’s easy delivery on For You; that said, For You is a song I’ll be playing again. Akon’s turn on this track is worth whatever he was paid.

Dutty Whine feat. Bank W. This song is terrible, there may be a chance that it bangs in the club because when the Remy’s in the system every song sounds great, but in the cold light of day, this song is really bad. The next track, Ki Lo Fe, I skipped too, it left so much to be desired. Omalicha, another lazy song, skip. Bombay Feat. Phyno, it’s alright as club songs go. One question feat. Yemi Sax is lovely; the kinda song that makes the sun not as hot as it feels. I also like Celebrate. After this song, Joy is the next track worth checking out; yet another ode to his mother, on its own, no problem but on an album where Mama Ayo is shouted out at least 6 times, with 2 songs dedicated to her, it’s a little much. The foreign collaborations, Akon aside, did nothing to enhance the tracks they were on. Tyga and Wale both phoned in their verses; nothing remotely memorable here.

The glaring thing here is that there is no overarching theme for the album. The choice of songs and their arrangement is not what one would expect; too many songs sound the same or like they belong on a giveaway project.

There is hardly anything of the man Wizkid on this album. The art is bland, its delivery largely pro forma, repetitive lyrics, unimaginative riffs, etcetera. Ojuelegba is hot because it marries a soothing mid tempo beat with a glimpse of his backstory, same goes for Ayo. If longevity is a concern of the artist’s then his pen game needs to improve markedly. It’s not enough to make club bangers where the beat makes up for his lyrics’ deficiencies. An album is supposed to be versatile art that lends itself to moods and situations; that cannot be said of this work.

Of the fresh material, only three songs are compelling enough to warrant revisiting: Ojuelegba, For You and Celebrate. The album relies too heavily on the familiarity of the old joints to prop it up, as such it falls way short.

This album is rated 4.5 out of 10.

where do you see yourself in five years? As a "PROGRAMMER"

The "where do you see yourself in five years" question is sort of glib, and most people have a pat answer they give to interviewers. But it does raise some deeper concerns: what is the potential career path for a software developer? Sure, we do this stuff because we love it, and we're very fortunate in that regard. But will you be sitting in front of your computer programming when you're 50? When you're 60? What is the best possible career outcome for a programmer who aspires to be.. well, a programmer?

What if I told you, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, that there were Eight Levels of Programmers?

1. Dead Programmer
This is the highest level. Your code has survived and transcended your death. You are a part of the permanent historical record of computing. Other programmers study your work and writing. You may have won a Turing Award, or written influential papers, or invented one or more pieces of fundamental technology that have affected the course of programming as we know it. You don't just have a wikipedia entry – there are entire websites dedicated to studying your life and work.

Very few programmers ever achieve this level in their own lifetimes.

Examples: Dijkstra, Knuth, Kay
Dijkstra
Born in Rotterdam, Dijkstra studied theoretical physics at Leiden University, but quickly realized he was more interested in computer science. Originally employed by the Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam, he held a professorship at the Eindhoven University of Technology, worked as a research fellow for Burroughs Corporation in the early 1980s, and later held the Schlumberger Centennial Chair in Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, in the United States. He retired in 2000.

Among his contributions to computer science are the shortest path algorithm, also known as Dijkstra's algorithm; Reverse Polish Notation and related Shunting yard algorithm; the THE multiprogramming system, an important early example of structuring a system as a set of layers; Banker's algorithm; and the semaphore construct for coordinating multiple processors and programs. Another concept due to Dijkstra in the field of distributed computing is that of self-stabilization – an alternative way to ensure the reliability of the system. Dijkstra's algorithm is used in SPF, Shortest Path First, which is used in the routing protocols OSPF and IS-IS. Read More

Knuth
Knuth was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where his father owned a small printing business and taught bookkeeping at Milwaukee Lutheran High School, where he enrolled, earning achievement awards. He applied his intelligence in unconventional ways, winning a contest when he was in eighth grade by finding over 4,500 words that could be formed from the letters in "Ziegler's Giant Bar." The judges had only about 2,500 words on their master list. This won him a television set for his school and a candy bar for everyone in his class. Read More

Kay
Alan Kay showed remarkable ability at an early age, learning to read fluently at three years old. In an interview on education in America with the Davis Group Ltd. Alan Kay said, "I had the fortune or misfortune to learn how to read fluently starting at the age of three. So I had read maybe 150 books by the time I hit 1st grade. And I already knew that the teachers were lying to me."[2]

Originally from Springfield, Massachusetts, Kay attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, earning a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Molecular Biology. Before and during this time, he worked as a professional jazz guitarist.

In 1966, he began graduate school at the University of Utah College of Engineering, earning a Master's degree and a Ph.D. degree. There, he worked with Ivan Sutherland, who had done pioneering graphics programs including Sketchpad. This greatly inspired Kay's evolving views on objects and programming. As he grew busier with ARPA research, he quit his career as a professional musician. Read More

2. Successful Programmer
Programmers who are both well known and have created entire businesses – perhaps even whole industries – around their code. These programmers have given themselves the real freedom zero: the freedom to decide for themselves what they want to work on. And to share that freedom with their fellow programmers.

This is the level to which most programmers should aspire. Getting to this level often depends more on business skills than programming.

Examples: Gates, Carmack, DHH

3.Famous Programmer
This is also a good place to be, but not unless you also have a day job.

You're famous in programming circles. But being famous doesn't necessarily mean you can turn a profit and support yourself. Famous is good, but successful is better. You probably work for a large, well known technology company, an influential small company, or you're a part of a modest startup team. Either way, other programmers have heard of you, and you're having a positive impact on the field.

4.Working Programmer
You have a successful career as a software developer. Your skills are always in demand and you never have to look very long or hard to find a great job. Your peers respect you. Every company you work with is improved and enriched in some way by your presence.

But where do you go from there?

5.Average Programmer
At this level you are a good enough programmer to realize that you're not a great programmer. And you might never be.

Talent often has little do do with success. You can be very successful if you have business and people skills. If you are an average programmer but manage to make a living at it then you are talented, just not necessarily at coding.

Don't knock the value of self-awareness. It's more rare than you realize. There's nothing wrong with lacking talent. Be bold. Figure out what you're good at, and pursue it. Aggressively.

6.Amateur Programmer
An amateur programmer loves to code, and it shows: they might be a promising student or intern, or perhaps they're contributing to open source projects, or building interesting "just for fun" applications or websites in their spare time. Their code and ideas show promise and enthusiasm.

Being an amateur is a good thing; from this level one can rapidly rise to become a working programmer.

7.Unknown Programmer
The proverbial typical programmer. Joe Coder. Competent (usually) but unremarkable. Probably works for a large, anonymous MegaCorp. It's just a job, not their entire life. Nothing wrong with that, either.

8.Bad Programmer
People who somehow fell into the programmer role without an iota of skill or ability. Everything they touch turns into pain and suffering for their fellow programmers – with the possible exception of other Bad Programmers, who lack even the rudimentary skill required to tell that they're working with another Bad Programmer.

Which is, perhaps, the hallmark of all Bad Programmers. These people have no business writing code of any kind – but they do, anyway.

These levels aren't entirely serious. Not every programmer aspires to the same things in their career. But it's illuminating to consider what a programmer could accomplish in ten years, twenty years, or thirty years – perhaps even a lifetime. Which notable programmers do you admire the most? What did they accomplish to earn your admiration?

In short, what do you wanna do with your life?
Webmasters / Algorithms - How To Get Better At Solving Dynamic Programming Problems - Soltesh by soltesh(m): 12:07pm On Jun 20, 2012
I recently came across this question: "You are given a boolean expression consisting of a string of the symbols 'true', 'false', 'and', 'or', and 'xor'. Count the number of ways to parenthesize the expression such that it will evaluate to true. For example, there are two ways to parenthesize 'true and false xor true' such that it evaluates to true."

I knew it is a dynamic programming problem so i tried to come up with a solution on my own which is as follows. Suppose we have a expression as A.B.C.....D where '.' represents any of the operations and, or, xor and the capital letters represent true or false. Lets say the number of ways for this expression of size K to produce a true is N. when a new boolean value E is added to this expression there are 2 ways to parenthesize this new expression 1. ((A.B.C.....D).E) ie. with all possible parenthesizations of A.B.C.....D we add E at the end. 2. (A.B.C.(D.E)) ie. evaluate D.E first and then find the number of ways this expression of size K can produce true.....................

share your own ideasrolleyes)::

The Prominent Group in this area include the Igbo, Ibibio, Ijo, Efik. This area is in General, characterized by non-centralized societies, with the Igbo being probably a minor exception.
The Ijo represents the naija-delta in a belt stretching from ondo state to bayelsa and river state. those of them in the eastern delta section area developed small states, the more prominent once being ibani (Bonny) Eleme Kalabari (New Calaba), Nembe (Brass) and Okirika. the development of the state occurred fro about the sixteenth century in response to the Atlantic trade.

Before the arrival of the Europeans the typical Ijo settlement in eastern delta was a small village containing only a few hundred inhabitants. Each village was divided into wards (polo) which was in turn sub divided into house holds (wari). The MAIN POLITICAL PARTY in the village was the assembly of all adult males which was presided over by the Amayanabo who owned the office to the fact that he was the head of the linage. This discovered or founded the village site. THE Amanyanabo's wire however, essential rituals. With the advent of Atlantic trade, villages or communities which succeeded in gaining greater control of the commerce with the Europeans became nuclei of new state. And the Amanyanabo metamorphosed into a political official. The Efic became the main distributor of the Atlantic trade on the cross river just as the ijo's did in the eastern delta. The four major Efic settlement of the Obio oko (Creek Town), Atakpa (Duke Town). Obutong (Old Town) and Nsidung (Henshaw Town) came to be collectively called calaba. Although the various Efic communities had their titular heads, styled the Obong, effective authority was exercised of through membership in political socialites, the most important of which was ekpe. The Obong was therefore a member of the highest grades of the society..................................Read More http://pearlblogz..com/2012/06/about-eatern-zone-of-nigeria.html

INTRODUCTION
Culture has been aptly described as "the totality of the way of life evolved by a people in there attemp to meet the challenge of living in the environment".
Accordingly, culture is what gives order and and meaning to the linguistic, social, political, economic, aesthetic, religious and philosophical modes and organisation of a people, nation, or ethnic group.
In order words, culture is the hallmark of the distinction as well as the connection between between one people and another.
The notion f "distinction" and "connection" between culture are crucial, since the emphasis on the one or the other often tend over vitality divergent concequences for intergrup relations aand consensus-building: sensitization to difference and stimulation of conflict and ever war at one level; and, at the other, appreciation of similarities and affinities and, therefore, cooperation - if not integration - and peace.
