Dangote needs crude Oil mainly produced by multinationals whose benchmark for crude oil cost and expenses are in dollars

Now you can ask tota, spdc, chevron etc to give NNPC Nigeria's 55% stake of crude oil in Naira, meanwhile all expenses (maintenance, personnel, equipment) are in dollars

So if NNPC sells to dangote in dollars l, how will they contribute their portion of cash call for the JV operations

Normally NNPC should sell to dangote in dollars, and dangote sell petrol to you in dollars, but if that's done petrol will be more than 1500. That's why they rather do a crude to petrol swap.

The solution is not to punish them. They are Nigerians, they should be encouraged to do the right thing.

The reason they are shunning Dangote's much cheaper PMS is because they know they will always have an excuse to claim refunds from the FG while importing based on the excuses I started above.

The only way the FG can truly end this round tripping rent seekers is simply to place at least 100% import duty on all refined products.

Let them import and claim whatever they say was their landing cost and get charged 100% on it as import levy. If thats the case, then FG needs to look for a way to find a connecting bridge between Dangote's profitability and Marketers fair price cap

Meeting all local demands will eliminate scarcity and these silly dubious acts by the marketers and the conmen in NNPC


If Dangote continues to export most of his products and Marketers keep importing theirs, then the Dangote refinery is useless to us all
