President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday leave
Nigeria for New York to attend the 70th session of the UN
General Assembly.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on
Tuesday by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and
Publicity, Femi Adesina.
Mr. Adesina said the president would hold series of
meetings and interactions with notable world leaders
there.
He said the president would hold deliberations with the
UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, President Barack
Obama of the U.S. and President Francois Hollande of
France.
Mr. Adesina said the president would also hold
deliberations with Prime Minister David Cameron of
Britain, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, President
Vladmir Putin of Russia, President Xi Jinping of China,
Prime Minister Narenda Modi of India and others.
Mr. Adesina said that the president’s talks with the world
leaders would mainly be on domestic developmental
issues, bilateral relations, the war against terrorism and
countering violent extremism.
He said the president would discuss the enhancement of
global security, peace-keeping operations, climate
change and the adoption of a post 2015 global
development agenda in the meetings.
“President Buhari is also scheduled to address the World
Leaders Summit on Violent Extremism to which he was
personally invited by Mr Ban Ki Moon during the
Secretary-General’s recent visit to Nigeria.’’
President Buhari would also participate in a meeting of
the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, a High-
Level Roundtable on South-South Cooperation organised
by President Xi Jinping of China and the United Nations.
Mr. Adesina said that President Buhari would participate
in the launching of an updated global health strategy for
women and children.
He said President Buhari would meet with former
President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates of the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown of
Britain.
Mr. Brown is the UN Special Envoy on Global Education
who is one of the main drivers of the Safe Schools
Initiative.
He stated that President Buhari would be accompanied
by the governors of Sokoto, Kaduna and Niger States, the
National Security Adviser and the Permanent Secretaries
in the Federal Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence,
Finance, Health, Industry and Trade and Investment.
Mr. Adesina said the president will deliver Nigeria’s
Statement to the 70th Session of the United Nations
General Assembly on Sept. 28.
It stated that the president would conclude his visit to
New York on September 29 and return Abuja on the same

West African leaders as well as their representatives met
in Abuja today.

The extraordinary meeting of the Economic Community of
West African States (ECOWAS) was convened by Nigerian
president Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting was convened to discuss the recent coup in
Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso is a West African country and
was plunged into political uncertainty last week as the
Presidential guard sacked the transitional civilian
government.

Burkina Faso has been suspended from the African Union
even as the coup plotters have begun negotiations after
receiving an ultimatum from the Burkinabe Army.
The Presidential guard installed General Gilbert Diendere
as head of state following the military junta and he has
promised to set up a transitional government.
The international community has roundly condemned the
coup and insists that the junta will not be recognized.
The ECOWAS leaders met today to seek a diplomatic
solution to the current Imbroglio.

Nigerian Hollywood actress, Uzo Aduba won her second Emmy at the 2015 Emmy awards which held yesterday September 20th. Uzo who is one of the lead actresses in the hit series, Orange is the New Black, won Best Supporting Actress in the comedy category. The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has
expressed his condolence to the family of the late
Nigerian statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, over the
demise of the matriarch of the Awolowo clan, Hannah
Idowu Dideolu , who passed on yesterday at the age of
99.
Governor Ikpeazu extends the sincere feelings of the good
people of Abia State to the family of Awolowo, the Ogun
State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and to the great people
of Ogun State for the vacuum that has been created in
the social and political life of the people by the death of
the famed matriarch.
The Governor noted that, until her death, HID was the
“living tree” of the South West political history and stood
as the rallying point of all political leaning in the South
West, having married a man whom the Yoruba see as
their political symbol.
He noted that, until yesterday, HID was the living
representation of that symbol and therefore commiserates
with the entire people of the South West over the
irreparable loss.
Governor Ikpeazu described HID as a woman of courage
and resilience who stood doggedly behind her husband
throughout his embattled life as a foremost Nigerian
politician and community leader and prayed God to grant
her soul an eternal rest.
He also prayed God to console her family, relatives, the
people of Ogun State and the entire Yoruba race who
must surely be touched by the passing on of the
legendary matriarch.

2 officials of LASTMA, (Lagos State Traffic Management
Authority) yesterday, engaged a danfo driver in a physical combat at the popular Anthony bus stop in Gbagada area of Lagos,The officials took the law into their hands as they pulled off their uniform while trying to stab the danfo driver with a broken windscreen glass.
Some of the passers by who took pictures were
harassed and their handsets destroyed by the
LASTMA men around the place.
The fight broke up shortly after the driver was

These are not comfortable times for some ‘super

to sell their choice houses and state-of-the-art
automobiles in order to avoid losing the properties
to the no-nonsense anti-corruption war that
President Muhammadu Buhari is about to start
from Abuja.
Already, the ICPC has reportedly confiscated some
buildings said to have been owned by public
servants whose earnings are said not to support
ownership of such big houses.
For fear of Buhari, some corrupt big civil servants
have been bombarding estate agents in Abuja in
order to aid the quick sale of their houses...
According to Punch, financially buoyant buyers
were said to have started cashing in on the
development.
It was gathered that the sale of properties in Abuja
since the new administration came on board had
increased by about 30 per cent. In fact, it was
learnt that property sales in the FCT increased
“tremendously” within the past four weeks, in
contrast to the lull that characterised the sector
from January to May this year.
“The probe has created panic. People now consult
us, requesting our assistance in helping them sell
their properties. Of course, they won’t say they are
trying to avoid probe, but most of us know that
that is what they are avoiding,” an agent and
member of the Real Estate Developers Association
of Nigeria, who pleaded not to be identified, said.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday said that the National Youth Service Corps was still relevant for national integration and unity. To this end, he had pledged his administration’s commitment to take all necessary actions in maintaining the programme. President Buhari gave the assurance after receiving a briefing from officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development led by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rabi Jimeta. The President who affirmed his confidence and trust in the programme said that the objective for which the scheme was established in 1973 was still very relevant for national development. “I firmly believe in NYSC and I think it should remain a national programme to promote integration. “Whenever I go home to Daura, I look out for Corps members from Lagos, Aba and other parts of the country. “I am always thrilled to learn that except for the NYSC, some of them have never left their states of origin to visit other cities in the country,” Buhari said. Jimeta had earlier told the President that the increasing number of NYSC participants posed a challenge to the scheme due to the dwindling revenue, from the national budget, to cater for their needs. According to her, the annual enrolment of corps participants had increased from 2,364 at inception in 1974 to 229,016 in 2014. “Given the increasing number of tertiary institutions, our projection is that the number of corps participants may rise to 300,000 by year 2020,’’ she said. Also, speaking, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi, told the President that there were plans to make the scheme voluntary and reduce the corps population to make the programme more sustainable.

Four suspected armed robbers attacked a
commercial bank in Okene, Kogi State, on Friday,
killing two policemen in their attempt to break into
the banking hall.

An eyewitness said the gunmen arrived at the bank
premises at about 8.55am shooting in all
directions.

The source explained that though security
operatives at the bank foiled the attempt of the
robbers to enter the bank, two policemen were
killed in the gun duel between the hoodlums and
security operatives.

The Police Public Relation Officer of the Kogi State
Command, Mr. Sola Adebayo, confirmed the attack
and the killing of the two policemen.

The PPRO said the police would commence
investigation into the robbery attempt with a view
to apprehending the perpetrators of the deadly act.
