EducationIyiola Victor Oluwaseun: National President, Physiology Students in Nigeria 2026 by SPANNATIONAL(op):
Iyiola Victor Oluwaseun: Nigerian Physiology Scholar, Researcher, Digital Communications Professional and National President of all Physiology Students in Nigeria (SPAN 2026/2027 Administration)

Who is Iyiola Victor Oluwaseun?

Iyiola Victor Oluwaseun, popularly known as I.V or Mythic, is a Nigerian Physiology scholar, researcher-in-training, digital communications professional, and student leader. He is an undergraduate student of Physiology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and currently serves as the National President of the Students' Physiological Association of Nigeria (SPAN), the umbrella body representing undergraduate Physiology students across Nigerian universities.

He is widely known for his contributions to student leadership, academic development, institutional growth, scientific communication, and the advancement of Physiology education in Nigeria. Beyond leadership, his long-term ambition is to build a distinguished career in biomedical research and academia, ultimately becoming a Professor of Physiology.

Early Life and Education

Born on 2 December 2003, Iyiola hails from Ife Central Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria.

He attended Goodnews College for his primary education before proceeding to Adepetu Comprehensive College and later Sijuwade Comprehensive College, Ile-Ife, where he graduated as the Overall Best Graduating Student of the 2018/2019 set. He also received the Daniel C. Onukaogu Memorial Award as the Best Graduating Student in Geography and served as Assistant Health Prefect.

Professional Career Before University

Before gaining admission into university, Victor had already begun building a career in digital communications.

Since 2020, he has worked as a Content Writer, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist and Digital Communications Professional, collaborating with organizations including Prolanz Digitals, MakeMoney.ng and ChartsEmpire Trading Academy.

He holds professional certifications in:

• Content Marketing (HubSpot Academy)
• Search Engine Optimization (HubSpot Academy)
• Google Analytics (Google Skillshop)

Journey into Physiology

Victor originally wanted to study Medicine and Surgery.

After scoring 243 in the 2021 UTME, he strategically changed his preferred course to Physiology shortly before the Post-UTME examination because it had a slightly lower admission cut-off than Anatomy, thereby increasing his chances of gaining admission into the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

Although Physiology was initially a strategic choice rather than a passion, his perspective changed after admission. As he progressed through his studies, he became deeply fascinated by the science of how the human body functions and eventually abandoned his plan of transferring to Medicine.

Today, Physiology has become both his academic passion and lifelong career aspiration.

Rise in Student Leadership

Victor's leadership journey began during his first year at FUTA, where he played important roles in successful student election campaigns before gradually assuming leadership positions himself.

Over the years, he has served in several capacities, including:

• National President, Students' Physiological Association of Nigeria (SPAN)
• National General Secretary, SPAN
• Public Relations Officer, SPAN FUTA
• Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Editorial Matters, BAMSSA FUTA
• Pioneer Head, Editorial Unit, TheStillWaters Mental Health Foundation, FUTA Chapter

Service as National General Secretary

On 4 May 2024, Victor was sworn in as National General Secretary of SPAN, becoming the first student from FUTA to serve as a National Executive of the Association.

Working alongside President Oladapo Samuel Abayomi and other national officers, he played key roles in administration, documentation, stakeholder engagement and institutional development.

Among the notable achievements of the administration were:

• Organization of multiple national academic symposiums.
• Launch of the first SPAN National Freshers' Orientation Programme.
• Creation of the SPAN Academic Library.
• Publication of the SPAN Career Book and National Magazine.
• Alumni engagement and mentorship initiatives.
• Expansion of SPAN into more universities.
• Strengthening collaboration with the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN).
• Development of digital communication systems for the Association.

He also led or participated in strategic visits to the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), the leadership of the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN), and several distinguished professors of Physiology across Nigeria.

Election as National President

Following his service as National General Secretary, Victor contested for the office of National President on a manifesto centred around institutional reforms, student welfare, chapter expansion, sponsorship, alumni engagement, constitutional governance and the advancement of Physiology in Nigeria.

He was elected National President and sworn into office on 9 December 2025, becoming the first student from the Federal University of Technology, Akure to attain the position.

Since assuming office, his administration has focused on:

• Strengthening constitutional governance.
• Financial and electoral reforms.
• Expansion of SPAN chapters nationwide.
• Digital transformation.
• Greater collaboration with academics, researchers and alumni.
• Promoting research opportunities and professional development.
• Advocating for stronger recognition of Physiology within Nigeria's healthcare and research sectors.

His administration also created the largest unified network of undergraduate Physiology students in SPAN's history.

Research Interests

Beyond student leadership, Victor's greatest passion lies in research and academia.

His interests include:

• Human Physiology
• Biomedical Research
• Applied and Clinical Physiology
• Translational Research
• Health Systems Research
• Scientific Communication

He hopes to contribute significantly to scientific knowledge through research, teaching, mentorship and innovation.

Awards and Recognition

Some of his notable recognitions include:

• Overall Best Graduating Student (Sijuwade Comprehensive College)
• National Physiology Leadership Laureate Award
• Mentorship, Leadership and Institutional Advancement Award
• Order of National Statesmanship
• Recognition Award for Outstanding Service and Dedication

Leadership Philosophy

Victor believes that strong institutions outlive individuals.

His leadership focuses on accountability, institutional development, transparency and sustainable reforms rather than personality-driven governance.

One of his most quoted statements is:

"Think of the most important thing in your life right now. Politics stands above it, because politics decides who rules, who eats, and who survives."

Vision for the Future

Victor envisions a future where Physiology enjoys stronger professional recognition in Nigeria and where graduates have clearer career pathways in healthcare, research, academia and public policy.

He is particularly interested in postgraduate scholarships, international collaborations, research grants, fellowships and partnerships that advance biomedical science and physiological research.

What is SPAN? Aim, Objectives and Administrative Structure of the Students' Physiological Association of Nigeria

SPAN stands for the Students' Physiological Association of Nigeria (SPAN).

It is the national association that represents all undergraduate Physiology students in Nigerian universities.

Aim of SPAN

The general aim of SPAN, as reflected throughout its Constitution, is to:

• Unite Physiology students across Nigeria.
• Promote academic excellence.
• Protect the interests and welfare of Physiology students.
• Foster inter-chapter solidarity, peace and cooperation.
• Coordinate national, zonal and chapter activities among Physiology students.

This is reflected in the Preamble of the Constitution:

"...dedicated to the promotion of inter-chapter solidarity, peace and cooperation."

Objectives of SPAN

1. Academic Development
• Organize symposiums.
• Conduct national quiz competitions.
• Promote research activities.
• Improve curriculum awareness.
• Coordinate academic data collection.

2. Student Welfare
• Address welfare concerns across chapters.
• Support students through zonal and national structures.

3. National Representation
• Serve as the unified voice of Physiology students in Nigeria.
• Engage relevant bodies such as PSN, NANS, PHYSOC and other stakeholders.

4. Leadership Development
Develop student leaders through:
• Executive offices
• Senate
• Judiciary
• Committees
• Barrister training

5. Inter-Chapter Unity
• Encourage collaboration between universities.
• Organize conferences, games, orientations and social activities.

6. Professional Advancement of Physiology
• Promote recognition of Physiology as a profession.
• Strengthen relationships with professionals and alumni.

These objectives are embedded throughout Articles 1–4 of the SPAN Constitution.

Why SPAN?

1. To Unite Physiology Students Nationally

Before national coordination, many chapters operated independently with little national identity. SPAN provides one united platform for all Physiology students in Nigeria.

2. To Protect Collective Interests

A single chapter cannot effectively advocate for:
• Professional recognition
• Curriculum improvements
• Student opportunities
• National partnerships

SPAN gives Physiology students one collective voice.

3. To Build Professional Identity

SPAN helps students see Physiology as:
• A profession
• A scientific discipline
• A national movement

—not just a university course.

4. To Create Opportunities

SPAN provides access to:
• Conferences
• Networking
• Leadership opportunities
• Research
• Scholarships
• Trainings
• Collaborations
• Mentorship
• Career exposure

5. To Preserve the Future of Physiology

Without a national body:
• Chapters become isolated.
• Students lose representation.
• Professional advocacy becomes weaker.

SPAN Administrative Structure

1. National Body

The highest authority of SPAN.

Responsible for:
• National policies
• Elections
• Conferences
• Partnerships
• National representation

Led by the National President.

2. Zonal Bodies

Intermediate administrative structures based on Nigeria's six geopolitical zones:

• Zone A – South South
• Zone B – North
• Zone C – South East
• Zone D – South West
• Zone E – North Central
• Zone F – North East

Each zone is headed by a Zonal Coordinator.

3. Chapter Bodies

These are university-based SPAN chapters.

Each chapter consists of:
• Chapter President
• Chapter Executives
• Members

Examples include:
• SPAN FUTA
• SPAN UI
• SPAN UNIPORT
• SPAN FUTO
• SPAN ABU
• SPAN GSU
• SPAN PAAU
• And many others.

Three Arms of Government in SPAN

Like a democratic government, SPAN operates three arms:

Executive
Responsible for administration and programmes.

Legislature (Senate)
Makes laws, screens appointees and approves budgets.

Judiciary
Interprets the Constitution and settles disputes.
