Alhaji Aliko Dangote remains Africa’s richest with a net worth of $12.2 billion, according to Forbes.

This is an increase of $100 million from his worth last year.Dangote is the continental richest for the seventh year in a row.

Other Nigerians on the African list are Globacom Chairman Mike Adenuga ($5.3 billion) adjudged the fifth richest in Africa and Mrs Folorunsho Alakija ($1.6 billion) rated the 15th richest in Africa.

Following after Dangote in the African rich list is diamond mining heir Nicky Oppenheimer of South Africa ($7.7 billion) up $700 million last year.

Forbes said: “Dangote is looking beyond cement –his most valuable asset – and has been investing in a fertiliser production company and a large oil refinery. Dangote Fertiliser is expected to start operations in the second quarter this year.”

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was on Channels TV last night where he insisted that the over 21,000 teachers that failed the October 2017 competency test, remain sacked. He said this while reacting to the protest embarked upon by the Nigeria Labor Congress to kick against the mass sack of the teachers, yesterday January 11th.

Governor El-Rufai maintained that no amount of political blackmailing will make his administration rescind its decision to sack the teachers. According to him, efforts are being made to employ new competent and qualified teachers to work in the state public schools. Watch his interview below

A Libya Deportee, Destiny Kelly, has been arrested and detained by the Edo State Police command for allegedly abducting and robbing a female Corps member, Joseph Jennifer.

Kelly, (30), was arrested with two of his accomplices, Christopher Agbonugo (23) and another 29-year-old Endurance Aburimeh.

Kelly who said he was deported from Libya in late February, 2017, said he organised the abduction and robbery on December 2, 2017.

One of the suspects, Christopher, was said to have posed as a cab operator, while the Libya Deportee and his partner in crime posed as passengers.

According to one of the suspects, Aburimeh, they picked their victim at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill and headed towards the Ring Road.

A native medicine seller in Katsina State, Usman Saidu , has been remanded in the prison custody in connection with the death of a 27- year – old man , Aliyu Yahuza. Yahuza, it was learnt , died after being shot with a dane gun.

The deceased was said to have drunk a ‘ bullet- repelling ’ concoction prepared by the native doctor , who assured him that he could not die from gunshot.

To test the efficacy of the charm , Yahuza was said to have presented himself to be shot at. He, however, died on the spot after a dane gun was fired at him.

An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that a 40-year-old pastor, Olakanye Oni, accused of killing a 39-year-old woman, be remanded in prison.
Oni pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the murder suspect committed the offence ‎on or about December 13, 2017 at Ado Ekiti.

He alleged that Oni committed the offence through diabolical means because something strange was found in the private part of the murdered woman.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Sections ‎325 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Law of Ekiti,2012.

The chief magistrate, Mr Aderopo Adegboye, thereafter ordered that Oni be remanded in prison until the next adjourned date of January 15 for mention.

A tailor has allegedly committed suicide at No 4, Adebiayae street, Yaba, Lagos, after being kicked out of their matrimonial house by her husband.

According to reports, the woman and her kids had been putting up in her shop in Yaba, for many days, before her dead body was discovered this morning.

Her corpse has since been evacuated by some police officers.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has fixed March 9 to 17 for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
The Registrar of the board, Ishaq Oloyede, said this at a meeting with stakeholders on Tuesday.

The theme of the meeting is “Strategic planning on the conduct of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation.”

Mr. Oloyede said the mock examination initially scheduled to hold between January 22 and 24 has been moved to the first week in February due to the ongoing strike by non-teaching staff of universities.

“We are unable to access our CBT centres because most of them are in the universities and non teaching staff are on strike,” he said.

“Regarding the sale of forms, about 10 per cent of the expected candidates have registered, the number of candidates that have registered now is about 283,319,” he said.
The registrar said the prohibition of materials is applicable to candidates, supervisors and examiners.

“No candidates, examiners, invigilators will be allowed to enter the examination hall with wrist watches, pencils except HB pencils …and cameras” he said.
