Nice one, congrats Mikel. |
The National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has criticised the call for a sovereign national conference, saying the proponents of the conference are asking for another civil war. In an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, Mohammed said the conference would not solve the problems of corruption, illiteracy and poverty facing the country and noted that such national conferences had yielded negative results in countries such as Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He said, “The most spectacular failure of the national conference system is that of DR Congo. DR Congo is a big country with big problems. It’s a classical example of what you call a failed state. They held a sovereign national conference with so much fanfare. At the end of the day, what they had was not only a coup but a revolution. “So, I have news for those who believe national conference is the panacea for the problems of Nigeria. Most of the problems of Nigeria today are contextual problems. The sovereign national conference in Nigeria will not solve the problems of corruption, illiteracy and poverty. It will not give an honest and realistic government and it will not give a sincere and responsible revenue allocation formula. These are the problems of Nigeria. “No country, so far, has disintegrated peacefully. What they are asking or demanding is that we go through another civil war. If they want that, they are more than welcome. But they should be man enough to come out and say we want to disintegrate this country and we are prepared for the consequences. The first consequence is war; the second is the attendant consequences of war. We don’t have anything to fear.” Mohammed argued that the North had far more advantage over the South, when it comes to war, stating that any set of people who attempt to disintegrate the country would be crushed in the way of Biafra. “The last time the Igbo carried out their own coup, in which they killed people from other ethnic groups and there was retaliation and they started talking about war, we had war. Who lost? They did. Over one million lives were lost and over 90 per cent of them were Igbo. And the people who instigated the Igbo to go to war were Lagosians. When they took up the challenge, these people withdrew from them. If they want that now, I wish them good luck” he said. Cavities aren’t only painful, they can also be extremely expensive to fix! Dentists charge hundreds of dollars for fillings, and root canals cost even more than this. So, if you want to avoid all of the frustration and expense that comes along with these, then you need to take great care of your teeth. Fortunately there are five ways you can avoid cavities, which can result in having beautiful teeth that your dentist congratulates you on each time you visit. 1. Brush Your Teeth This might be obvious, but a lot of people don’t brush their teeth enough. This is responsible for getting rid of food particles from your teeth, but it also gets rid of a lot of cavity-causing bacteria. In addition to this, brushing will get rid of plaque and acids that can eat the enamel on your teeth. Brush your teeth twice per day and after you eat something that’s especially sugary. Also make sure you clean your tongue, as a lot of bacteria can latch onto the surface of it. When you do brush, use a brush that is comfortable and make sure you continue for at least two minutes. You can divide this by thirty seconds for each section of your mouth, which will make sure you hit all areas adequately. Another way to avoid cavities is by not brushing too hard, as this can damage the enamel on your teeth and make them more prone to bacteria and cavities. 2. Use Fluoride You probably use fluoride when at the dentist, but a lot of people don’t use this while at home. This is actually great for fighting cavities, as it protects your teeth and even makes them a lot stronger. When you rinse with this it will get rid of the bacteria and sugars in your mouth that get into your teeth and gums to cause cavities. Fortunately fluoride can be found in tap water, but it’s also easily found in a variety of mouthwash products. 3. Floss! A lot of people avoid flossing because they think it takes too much time, but unfortunately this is one of the biggest causes of cavities for most people. Your toothbrush can only clean so much of your teeth, which is why flossing is so important. This gets the crevices in between your teeth that the bristles just can’t get to. Once you push that floss in, you will be getting 40% of your tooth clean that your toothbrush wasn’t able to. Remember, even if you don’t see food particles come out with floss, you will be getting out bacteria and other things that cause cavities. 4. Diet What you eat has a lot to do with the cavities that you develop. For example, a diet full of chewy, sticky and sugary foods is going to lead to cavities because it allows sugars to get into the mouth more frequently. Bacteria thrive on sugars and will rapidly eat away at your teeth with the more it has available. By cutting down on the sugar you consume you will be starving that bacteria of what it thrives on, which means you will be less likely to develop cavities! Try to eat more raw vegetables and sugar-free foods on a regular basis. If you are going to eat something sugary, then avoid foods that are gooey, chewy or sticky, as these are the worst for your teeth. Also make sure you brush your teeth right after so you don’t allow the bacteria to feed on the sugar for long. 5. Regular Dentist Visits Visiting your dentist for regular checkups might be a pain, but it’s definitely well worth it. These visits will allow your dentist to see how well you are cleaning your teeth so that they can give you advice and guidance. During this appointment your teeth will also be deep cleaned, which will get rid of bacteria and buildup that you might have missed with daily dental care. Dentists have tools that you don’t have and they are able to get a better view, which means their cleaning is going to be a lot more thorough than one you could do. Regular deep cleanings will keep out much of the bacteria that cause cavities, but it will also get rid of plaque and other buildup that you don’t want in your mouth! http://www.speshsworld.com/2013/08/dental-health-5-simple-ways-to-never-have-cavities/ |
Controversies and scandals aside, Afro Hip Hop artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem, is happy that he chose the path of music, writes Anytime his name is mentioned in a gathering, many incidents readily come to mind. For some people it is his scuffle with American rapper, 50 Cents, during his visit to Nigeria, in 2004. Others may choose to remember his numerous swipes at colleagues in his songs. However, beyond the many controversies that have dogged his career over the years, Eedris Abdulkareem, was once a professional table tennis player and journalist. Recalling some of his exploits with a wide grin, the rapper says, “Back then, my passion was journalism, sports and music. As a hustler, you do everything but the most important thing is to get some form of education. I had a stint in journalism in Kano State with the Daily Times at the time, but I left because I wasn’t really passionate about it. More so, I was young and I thought it would not fetch me money. At age 15, I represented Kano State as a table tennis player. I was also part of the Nigerian Table Tennis contingent to the All Africa Games in 1985, which took place in Kenya, with the likes of Funke Oshinaike, Atunda Musa and the late Yomi Bankole.” The Bayero University, Mass Communication graduate says, “God told me emphatically that my calling was music because he wants me to use it to speak for the voiceless. He said, ‘Eedris, leave Kano, you are going to go to Lagos to do music, you would go through a lot but you will make it nonetheless. As soon as you have the opportunity to speak on the microphone, use it to talk about the ills in the society like sexual harassment, politics, embezzlement and illiteracy. Also, I was interested in music because my mother raised 10 children and lost seven of them. It made me a very conscious boy at a tender age because of that.” Looking back, the artiste, who has been in the game for two decades, says he is glad that he yielded to the call. “I would have made more money from music if I sing praises. But if you are a public officer who is accountable, I will definitely praise you. With music, I have met all my needs and gained international recognition. I have the authority to walk up to any governor’s door and get instant recognition. They will say, “Ah, Eedris Abdulkareem, Obasanjo’s friend, Jaga jaga”. It has opened many doors for me and I don’t have to sell my soul to the devil or become a member of illuminati to be successful,” he says amid laughter. When asked to comment on the high point of his career, his face lights up in a smile “The best to ever happen to me was former President Olusegun Obasanjo talking back at me, calling me a mere street boy whose father is not known. The president took me to the next level, I became a super star, and now people know me, because Obasanjo put me in his level.” As if these achievements are not enough, the rapper, who has been running an independent label, La Kreem Records, since 2004, is happy because he has succeeded in keeping the home front intact in spite of controversies. “I love my family and wife so much that I don’t joke with them. I have been married for 13 years, though they thought it would last three months. I proved to them that it is possible to be a family man and artiste at the same time. I am an inspiration to other married celebrities,” he boasts. Things can only get better, as far as Eedris is concerned. With a sixth album due in November, the Osun State native, who says he has a few friends in the industry, tries to clear a few issues off his chest. “I don’t need endorsements, but I am cool with the shows that Mike Adenuga has been giving me. Shows are enough for me. I will endorse my own product which I am putting together. I need more shows because they pay my bills. If I tell you I want endorsements you may think that most of the things I sing about are for endorsement. I don’t want it, but I do it for other Nigerian artistes so they can live big. But if you must endorse, choose people that will add value to your life. Endorsement is the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria. My only grouse is that abroad, endorsed artistes add value to other people’s lives. Here in Nigeria, it is the opposite,” he says. http://www.speshsworld.com/2013/09/obasanjos-insult-made-superstar-eedris-abdulkareem/ |

https://www.speshsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Mikel-John-Obi.jpg Last year, Mikel Obi joined the elite group of Nigerians to win the coveted UEFA Champions League as Chelsea, under manager Roberto Di Matteo, defeated Bayern Munich 4-3 in Germany, becoming only the fourth English team to win the title. Before Mikel’s success, Nwankwo Kanu and Finidi George were the only Nigerians to win the competition with Ajax in 1995. This season, Mikel tops a list of six Nigerians in the race for the title as they all look to enrich their profiles in world football. Mikel and his club, Chelsea, started their campaign on a poor note on Wednesday, unexpectedly losing 2-1 to visiting Basel at Stamford Bridge. Mikel did not start the game but was introduced in the 76th minute, replacing Marco van Ginkel as manager, Jose Mourinho, sought to change the game without success. Chelsea’s next game is against Steaua Bucuresti on October 1. Celtic are not favourites to win this year’s Champions League and it was no surprise when they lost 2-0 to AC Milan in Italy on Wednesday. Efe Ambrose, however, had an impressive outing with the Scottish team as he displayed his aerial prowess to deny Milan from set pieces. He partnered well with Van Dijk to keep Matri and Balotelli at bay. The 77th minute yellow card he got in the game did little to slow him down. Last season, Ambrose won the Scottish league and the Scottish Cup, leaving him the Champions League as the next big thing to win in Europe. His next challenge is to devise means of stopping Lionel Messi when Celtic host Barcelona on October 1. Fanendo Adi was only unlucky not to bag his first goal in the competition on Tuesday as he helped Danish Supa Liga champions, København, to a 1-1 draw against Juventus. The 22-year-old striker had a few chances against the Italian giants but failed to take his chances. He was substituted for Rúrik Gíslason in the 70th minute. Adi joined the Danish champions in the summer after two seasons in Slovenia playing for Tren?ín. He will travel with the team to face Real Madrid in Spain on October 2. Michael Olaitan was not listed for Olympiakos Piraeus of Greece when they hosted and lost 4-1 to Paris Saint-Germain at the Georgios Karaiskáki Stadium. The Flying Eagles midfielder has only made one league appearance for the Greek champions since joining them in the summer from rivals Veria. Ahmed Musa could not help CSKA survive the German onslaught on Tuesday as Bayern Munich continued from where they stopped last season, dominating their opponents in the Champions League. Musa’s movement, until he was substituted in the 74th minute, was continually checked by the European champions as David Alaba, Mario Mand?uki? and Arjen Roben struck thrice to seal victory at home. The former Kano Pillars player will be back when they host Viktoria Plze? on October 2. Former Hoffenheim striker, Chinedu Ogbuke, was not listed in the Schalke 04 match against Steaua Bucure?ti as the German team romped to a 3-0 victory at home. Ogbuke has not made any appearance for the Bundesliga side this season; he made only four appearances for the team last season. http://www.speshsworld.com/2013/09/six-nigerians-hunt-champions-league-glory/ |
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, known as the New PDP, has accused the Presidency of plotting to remove Senate President David Mark and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal. The allegation, which was dismissed by the Presidency as a product of mischief makers, was made hours after The PUNCH had gathered that PDP members in the House loyal to the Bamanga Tukur faction had set up a “strategy group” to watch Tambuwal. The New PDP claimed that the plot to sack Mark and the Speaker was over the visit of its National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje and seven aggrieved PDP governors to the National Assembly on Tuesday. It said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary , Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, on Thursday, that those behind the scheme must have a rethink. The statement reads in part, “To us, this plot by the hawks in the Presidency is politics taken too far and it illustrates the extent to which they are prepared to go in their determination to plunge this country into chaos. “We wish to warn those who are planning this ‘coup’ to desist forthwith as such a misadventure is capable of plunging this nation into a crisis of monumental proportion . “These undemocratic elements should stop overheating the polity just because of their selfish ambitions.” The faction warned that those who felt that politics was better practised by way of threats and the unseating of those who did not share their “unprogressive” thoughts should know “that there is a limit to how far they can push us.” It added that Mark and Tambuwal had brought in a unique style of leadership which had resulted in sanity, brotherhood and unity being witnessed in the National Assembly. The New PDP however said the removal of Mark and Tambuwal would be impossible because its members in the National Assembly were in the majority. It therefore advised the leadership of the National Assembly not to lose sleep over the alleged plot. The group added that the “well-intentioned visit” was part of the nation-wide consultations by its members in their efforts to correct “the evils being perpetrated by the undemocratic leadership of Alhaji Tukur and his cohorts.” It said, “The aim was to brief and discuss with members of the National Assembly, in view of their position as leaders of the party, on how to reposition our great party to be united and face other parties by 2015. “Any other motive imputed to the visit is not only mischievous but also a product of the devilish imaginations of those reaching such conclusions.” But the Presidency dismissed the allegation, saying that it was an attempt by “mischief-makers to overheat the polity.” Investigations in Abuja showed that a group was monitoring the speaker to find out whether he had aligned with the 57 New PDP members in the House. The group, said to be headed by a senior lawmaker from the South, had held a couple of meetings lately. Findings indicated that such meetings discussed a series of issues concerning the recent developments in the PDP. The Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Joy Emodi, in an interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja on Thursday, said those alleging a plot against Mark and Tambuwal were only bent on overheating the polity. She said there was no such move because Jonathan had enormous respect for members of the National Assembly as well as their leadership. Emodi said, “The President is one president that has refused to interfere in the activities of the National Assembly. There will be no way he will be involved in such a thing. “This is an attempt by mischief makers who are bent on overheating the polity by flying kites of imminent crisis in the National Assembly. I want to state categorically that such only exist in the minds of the peddlers.” Source: http://www.speshsworld.com/2013/09/presidency-plotting-unseat-mark-tambuwal-new-pdp/ |
1) A pig is a real garbage gut. It will eat anything including urine, excrement, dirt, decaying animal flesh, maggots, or decaying vegetables. They will even eat the cancerous growths off other pigs or animals. 2) The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef or venison. 3) When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time. 4) Unlike other mammals, a pig does not sweat or perspire. Perspiration is a means by which toxins are removed from the body. Since a pig does not sweat, the toxins remain within its body and in the meat. 5) Pigs and swine are so poisonous that you can hardly kill them with strychnine or other poisons. 6) Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom. 7) When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other animal’s flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms. Swine and pigs have over a dozen parasites within them, such as tapeworms, flukes, worms, and trichinae. There is no safe temperature at which pork can be cooked to ensure that all these parasites, their cysts, and eggs will be killed.9) Pig meat has twice as much fat as beef. A 3 oz T bone steak contains 8.5 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork chop contains 18 grams of fat. A 3 oz beef rib has 11.1 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork spare rib has 23.2 grams of fat. 10) Cows have a complex digestive system, having four stomachs. It thus takes over 24 hours to digest their vegetarian diet causing its food to be purified of toxins. In contrast, the swine’s one stomach takes only about 4 hours to digest its foul diet, turning its toxic food into flesh. 11) The swine carries about 30 diseases which can be easily passed to humans. This is why God commanded that we are not even to touch their carcase (Leviticus 11: .12) The trichinae worm of the swine is microscopically small, and once ingested can lodge itself in our intestines, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. This results in the disease trichinosis. The symptoms are sometimes lacking, but when present they are mistaken for other diseases, such as typhoid, arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, MS, meningitis, gall bladder trouble, or acute alcoholism. 13) The pig is so poisonous and filthy, that nature had to prepare him a sewer line or canal running down each leg with an outlet in the bottom of the foot. Out of this hole oozes pus and filth his body cannot pass into its system fast enough. Some of this pus gets into the meat of the pig. 14) According to Jewish law, pork is one of a number of foods forbidden from consumption by Jews. These foods are known as “non-kosher” foods. In order for a meat to be kosher, it must first come from a kosher animal. A kosher animal must be a ruminant and have split hooves – therefore cows, sheep, goats and deer are all kosher, whereas camels and pigs (having each only one sign of kashrut) are not kosher. 15) Quran, Holy book of Muslims also prohibits consumption of pork. “He has made unlawful for you that which dies of itself and blood and the flesh of swine and that on which the name of any other than Allah has been invoked. But he who is driven by necessity, being neither disobedient nor exceeding the limit, then surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.” Quran 2:173 I cannot understand why anyone would eat it.
