Five oil wells situated in Soku and Elem-Sangana communities between Rivers and Bayelsa States are still subject of contention and conflict between the two brotherly neighbours. Ever since the controversial wells were allocated to Bayelsa State there has been neither peace nor respite between the two states even up till now.

It has been alleged by many politicians and community leaders from Rivers state, that the former President Goodluck Jonathan unjustly victimized Rivers states with the issue. The former president is accused of using his position then as the

It is widely reported that the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for the commencement of work on the coastal rail projects linking some Niger Delta region and Lagos state. The rail line projects are specifically designed to link the ports of Calabar with that of Port Harcourt passing through Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.

Three Niger Delta Civil organization groups namely, the Niger Delta Security Watch organization of Nigeria, (NDSWON). The Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI), the Foundation for Human Rights and Anti- Corruption Crusade (FHRACC) are up in arms against Governor Wike of Rivers State.

The groups are furious with the Governor over a Well-publicized statement he made giving his backing to a united, non negotiated and indivisible Nigeria. It is authoritative and confirmed that the Nigerian Government has finally bowed to pressure to start paying the Niger Delta Militants. The office of the special adviser to the President and coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme broke the news to the nation.

The amnesty office also revealed a new method of payment to the militants. The militants from now on would be paid directly instead of being paid through their leaders. An unknown number of Nigerian soldiers are reportedly missing after an ambush by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno.

The army said it was battling to save the lives of 19 other soldiers injured during the clash on Thursday.

Operatives of the Civilian-JTF, embedded with the military squad, were also badly injured in the deadly encounter in a village called Nguro Gongon.

The spokesman of the Nigeria army, Sani Usman, said the injured soldiers have been moved to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, while a rescue team was arranged to go searching for the missing soldiers.

He did not say how many soldiers were missing.

“Today morning, troops on clearance patrol at Guro Gongon village and environs to rout out remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hibernating therein, destroyed the terrorists’ makeshift camps and recovered quite a number of weapons, equipment and foodstuff in the process,” Mr. Usman, a colonel and acting director of army public relations, said.

“The recovered items include 1 Gun truck mounted with an Anti-Aircraft Gun, a MOWAG Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade Tube, 1 Light Machine Gun, 3 AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.

“However, the gallant soldiers basking on the recorded success, returning to their defensive locations, ran into an ambush by a group of Boko Haram terrorists who came to reinforce their fleeing comrades. Eric Avina pictured above is a middle aged HIV positive Malawian man whose responsibility it is to conduct "sexual cleansing" for underaged and also matured women in Nsanje district in southern Malawi.

Avina in his community is referred to as Hyena, a traditional title given to a man hired by communities in several remote parts of southern Malawi to provide what's called sexual "cleansing".

If a man dies, for example, his wife is required by tradition to sleep with Avina before she can bury him. If a woman has an abortion, she is expected to sleep with Avina to undergo cleansing. Also teenage girls, after their first menstruation, are made to have sex over a three-day period with Avina to mark their passage from childhood to womanhood. If the girls refuse, it's believed, disease or some fatal misfortune could befall their families or the village as a whole. He says he's one of 10 hyenas in their community, and that every village in Nsanje district has them. They are paid from $4 to $7 (£3 to £5) each time.

"Most of those I have slept with are girls, school-going girls. Some girls are just 12 or 13 years old, but I prefer them older. All these girls find pleasure in having me as their hyena. The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command have arrested 22 teenagers for robbery, stealing and cultism.

The 22 teenagers, amongst whom are four female, were arrested for involving in several occurrences of robbery, stealing and cultism around Agege and its environs.

The two leaders of the first gang, which consist of eight members, Babatunde, 15 and Tayo, 15, were arrested on last Thursday, at about 11:30 p.m. in Mulero, Agege for assaulting and robbing one Aladegbo Abidemi with an axe, and snatching her Blackberry Z10.

The suspects were stated to have given out other members of the gang the following day. Other members of the gang that were arrested are Matthew, 18; Sakiru, 16; Ganiyu,13; Reliwan, 15; Ibrahim, 15 and Kudus, 15.

According to their victim, Aladegbo Abidemi, female, 26, “I was coming from work. I decided to pass through Mulero to link the closest bus stop around 10:00 p.m. I sensed my phone ringing and I picked it. Just few seconds while on the call, I noticed some young boys about 12 swarming like bees towards me. I ran but I fell down. They rough handled me, threatened me with an axe and took my phone. They retreated and abandoned me inside the gutter. A couple of minutes after standing up, I saw RRS patrol vehicle. I reported the incident and showed them the direction they went. They gave them hot chase, and arrested them with my phone”.

A 20 year old Kansas woman Couch has given birth to three set of twins within two years, with the latest born last month June.

“People just consider me a freak of nature when I tell them,” said the 20-year-old mom, who seemingly has a condition in which she releases more than one egg monthly.

She delivered two boys 26 months ago but one of them died from complications of premature birth. 14 months later, twin girls Delilah and Davina, were born. The third set, Dalanie and Darla, both girls, were born last month. They all came home after three weeks in neonatal intensive care.

Couch is engaged to the father of the second and third set of twins. They are planning to get married on September. Presler is an aquarium technician and also works at Gas-mart.

“I have tried to sign up for benefits and got denied…I try best I can as a mother but sometimes I need help and honestly I am not too proud to ask,” said Couch.

There was disorder at the Benue state House of Assembly on Tuesday, July 19, as the event worsened into fisticuffs between lawmakers over an alleged 750 million naira car scam.

An alleged probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the buying of cars for the lawmakers has led to argument in the Benue State House of Assembly.

PDP lawmakers in the House allege the Speaker of corruption and are demanding the resignation of the principal officers in the House.

The Speaker accuses 13 PDP lawmakers of violating the law in the acquisition of the cars which prompted the EFCC probe.

According to Channels TV, the fracas was fueled by an alleged probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into the purchase of cars for the lawmakers. The commotion apparently arose on the floor of the House in Makurdi, the Benue state capital when Honourable Kester Kyenge (PDP), raised a point of order before the deliberation of votes and proceedings of the previous sitting. The Speaker of the House, Honourable Terkimbi Ikyange, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sensed the hazard in the motion raised and ruled Mr Kyenge out of order, causing displeasure among the PDP lawmakers. On Saturday 16 July, Mr Oladele Amoda, Chief Executive Officer, Eko Electricity Distribution Company Plc. (EKEDP) said that over N50 million was being lost monthly to electricity equipment destruction within its network. He revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos against the backdrop of continuous power outage within EKEDP network.

He condemned the cumulative equipment damage such as cables and wires, among others that had either been stolen or wrecked within its operations, which has lead the company to devote money meant for other electricity growth projects on maintenances. He also mentioned areas where equipment vandalism had been rampant like Apapa, Mushin, Ikoyi, Ajegunle and Festac of Lagos State.

He stated that equipment such as 300KVA and 500KVA are being destroyed in Eko Disco monthly.

The Ogun Government, on Wednesday announced the immediate appointment termination of Mr Ebenezer Olubena, Commissioner IV in the State Civil Service Commission, for acts of misconduct.
