Beware, Cyber Crime Black market Now exists online! You must have to be more careful with your online activities. Cyber criminals currently run various black markets on the internet. A vast network selling stolen bank details along with other types of products in forums and more than 50 dedicated online stores was discovered by Panda Lab. The cyber-crime black market, which has traditionally centered on distributing bank and credit card details stolen from people around the world, diversified its business model in 2010, and now sells a much broader range of stolen confidential information including bank credentials, log-ins, passwords, fake credit cards and more. However, as openly available as this information is, it can only be accessed by personally contacting the hackers who are promoting their information for sale on forums and in chat rooms. Alarmingly, these stolen credit/debit cards can be purchased for as little as $2 per card. Meanwhile, at the $2 purchasing level, the hacker does not provide additional information or verification of the available account balance. If the buyer wants a guarantee for the available credit line or bank balance, the price increases to $80 for smaller bank balances and upwards of $700 to access accounts with a guaranteed balance of $82,000. Similarly, these cyber-criminals also offer cloned credit/debit cards, card cloning machines, and even fake ATM machines. Additional products such as money laundering services (bank transfers or cashing checks) are available for a commission ranging from 10 to 40 percent of the operation. For more sophisticated cyber-criminals who want to set up their own fake online stores and use rogueware techniques to obtain both user details and also reap the money these unsuspecting victims pay for fake antivirus and anti spyware products, there are also teams available to deliver turnkey projects, design, develop and publish the complete store, even positioning it in search engines. In this case, the price depends on the project. Prices for botnet rental for sending spam (using bot-infected zombie computers, for example) vary depending on the number of computers used and the frequency of the spam, or the rental period. In all these, you will understand that cyber criminals are out to enrich themselves with other peoples’ demise. The worst part is that the cyber crime industry is rapidly growing at a bugling speed. It is highly advisable that everyone learn how to protect themselves in this twenty first century to avoid falling victim to cyber miscreants. |

How To Protect Your PC from Cyber Attacks! For the fact that every financial and business activity is headed towards the internet, your main gateway (computer) should be guarded with utmost care. People and businesses that have valuable items ensure that their gates are properly secured by securities guards. However, the other important gate that houses several confidential documents, passwords and keys to their money store are totally ignored. Here are some important security measures to employ in order to keep your money gate (computer) safe from intrusion by criminals: 1. Install anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date Anti-virus software can detect many forms of malicious virus before they could affect your computer. When buying anti-virus software, look for one that includes anti-spyware. Most anti-virus software can automatically download updates for you. Always check to make sure your software is downloading updates correctly. 2. Check your security settings Most operating systems (such as Windows XP) have a built-in firewall and other safeguards to prevent unauthorized access to your computer. Check your operating system to make sure it's set up so that your computer is protected. 3. Be careful when opening email attachments If you receive an email attachment you aren't expecting, do not open it. Before you open any email attachment — even if it's from someone you trust — scan it using anti-virus software. 4. Don't install unfamiliar programs Think carefully before installing or running new software, such as freeware or shareware programs available online. Only download software from sources you trust. Make sure you know what the software will do and how it will affect your computer. Malicious software (like viruses and spyware) often masquerade as legitimate and useful programs. Be wary of pop-up and email warnings Don't believe every warning you read — especially pop-up warnings that you see while surfing the Web. Cyber criminals use pop-up ads to display false warnings about your computer. You may receive an email warning that claims to be from a computer "expert" warning you of a virus. Ignore them. Do NOT click any button in the pop-up (such as a "Close" or "No" button) or the Close box that may appear in the upper-right corner of the pop-up. Closing a pop-up in that way might actually install a virus or other malicious software on your computer. To close a pop-up ad, press Ctrl-W (if you're using a Windows computer) or Command-W (on a Mac computer). |
Hacking is the most common way of stealing in this twenty first century. The entire world is going digital; a total deviation from the physical to a paperless economy. Ninety percent of the major financial transactions are basically done online (credit and debit card payments, online bank transfers, e-currency account transfers, etc). As the economy is drastically changing, so are the patterns of criminality. For the fact that majority of the people do not carry about cash any more, offline stealing is fast become unpopular, less profitable and frustrating to miscreants. As a result, 85% of criminal activities are now headed toward the internet. This has marked the beginning of cyber crimes in the world today. Our financial institutions are aware of this and for that, they employ sophisticated security gadgets, professionals and powerful software to protect their systems and websites, making it impossible for these cyber criminals to penetrate. The cyber criminals know about this and so focus more of their attacks on individual account owners who are busy with their daily moneymaking activities. The innocent hard working individuals on their own side pay less attention to their bank accounts, debit/credit card accounts or e-currency accounts with the false hope that they are secured. Of course the financial institutions are well secured…not you. Bitter experiences of these days point to the fact that people work so hard on their jobs or businesses only to one day discover that their long month savings have been carted away from them just within seconds. A recent survey of IT managers and security firms identify Spyware as public enemy number 1. According to their research, businesses report Spyware incidents as rising sharply in recent months. Typically associated with unprotected individual or publicly used PCs, spyware could soon qualify as the Top security headache in the corporate world. Bearing this in mind, one really has to be very careful so as not to give chances to any miscreant from gaining access to his or her e-currency or bank account at all cost. You need to fully protect your hard earned money from HACKERS either through ATM or others. |
I strongly believe that Nigerians need serious orientation towards success. Our society has so deteriorated that majority of the people (both young and old) wish to make money by all means. Sanitization of the Nigerian society should start from our leaders and elders. We want a Nigeria where everyone could proudly showcase their handwork. Where everyone would proudly say to his neighbor…this is my source of income. Not a Nigeria where leaders siphon public money for their selfish interest. That is fraud. When you steal public money for your selfish interest, you are committing fraud. Let’s stop calling on government…our government officials are the kings of fraud. So how can a kingdom rise against itself? We know what is happening in our police and other public offices. How then can we bekon on a criminal to fight against crime. Combating crime should start from our families. Parents should not celebrate their children just because they have made money. The source of income of our children should be known by the parent. Parents, youths and others in the society should stop celebrating criminal politicians and leaders. Let everyone treat them like criminals that they are. That will make the office unattractive for future criminals. Finally, I would want to say that the day Nigerian government sign into law, a serious penalty for corrupt leaders, is the day we will celebrate a new Nigeria. |
I think legalizing gun ownership in Nigeria will go a long way to reduce crime. If such is done, any criminal that want to step into your territory will be scared of what to encounter. Those that have guns feel they have the power, just because others dont have access to it. |
