PoliticsAkpabio’s Senate Approves Everything, Serves Only Tinubu’s Interest – Inibehe by SpyMaster1(op): 2:40pm On Sep 11, 2024
A human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has accused Godswil Akpabio-led Senate of only serving the interest of President Bola Tinubu.

Effiong described the current Senate as the worst the nation has had, adding that it approves everything and investigates nothing.

In a post on his X handle on Sunday, the human rights lawyer said those that voted for Tinubu because of tribal and parochial sentiments will suffer for it.

Effiong said: “Akwa Ibom people that voted for Tinubu because of Godswill Akpabio, how’s this economy treating you people? I want to know how “your son” being in the government and occupying the office of the Senate President has changed your lives?

“By the way, this present Senate is the worst we have had. This is a Senate that approves everything and investigates nothing. It is a Senate that only exist to serve the interest of Tinubu. A Senate that sleeps while the nation is burning.

“Apart from the few individuals who are getting political appointments and financial rewards because of the influence of Akpabio, was the support given to Tinubu worth it?

“When you let tribal and parochial sentiments to determine your political decisions, you’ll suffer for it.”

PoliticsNigeria Dumps Taiwan For One-China Policy by SpyMaster1(op): 12:04am On Sep 10, 2024
In a fresh agreement between President Bola Tinubu and his counterpart in the People’s Republic of China, President Xi Jinping, Nigeria has dumped Taiwan for One-China policy, THISDAY has learnt. This is just as China may have agreed to put pressure on Russia not to be meddlesome in Mali, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso, in the efforts to provide regional stability in West Africa.Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso recently pulled out from the regional bloc, ECOWAS, headed by President Tinubu, over the military takeover of the democratically-elected governments in the three countries.

China was expected to use its influence over Russia to promote peace and regional stability in West Africa. The One-China Policy is a diplomatic acknowledgement of China’s position that there is only one China in the world, and that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, with Taiwan as an inalienable part of the Chinese territory.China regards the island of Taiwan as its breakaway territory, which will one day be unified with the mainland. While President Tinubu and President Jinping reaffirmed their countries’ support for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, China may also have agreed to put pressure on Russia over Mali, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso, in its efforts to provide regional stability in West Africa.

The military leaders in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger had all broken their military and defence links with France, seeking greater cooperation with Russia. In a joint statement establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China, Tinubu and Jinping restated the commitment of the two countries to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.According to the statement, Tinubu, at the invitation of Jinping, was in China for a State Visit on September 3, 2024, and to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).The joint statement noted that during the visit, Tinubu and Jinping had cordial discussions with an in-depth exchange on the two countries’ relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The two sides resolved to make joint efforts to fully support Nigeria’s geographical and development advantage in West Africa to establish Africa’s flagship projects on cross-national and cross-regional cooperation. On its part, China commended Nigeria’s leading role in ECOWAS and its efforts towards bringing stability to the region. The Asian country also expressed support to Nigeria to play a leading role in regional affairs, including fighting against terrorism and managing differences. While the two sides agreed to stay committed to safeguarding peace, security, and stability in the region including the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea, China pledged to support Nigeria in its capacity-building such as upgrading its science, technology, and equipment for its military and intelligence.

The Asian country also promised to support Nigeria to respond more effectively to traditional and non-traditional security challenges at home and abroad, as well as at the regional and international levels. The two presidents were said to have agreed that both countries stood at a new historical starting point, as significant representatives of major developing countries and emerging economies.Tinubu and Jinping also agreed that strengthened strategic cooperation between the countries would propel a new dynamic for China-Africa relations in the new era and lead the Global South to march together.

While resolving to consolidate mutual trust, expand cooperation, and strengthen coordination, the two presidents also agreed to upgrade the China–Nigeria relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and build a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future.“The two sides reaffirmed their firm support to each other on issues related to their respective core interests and major concerns, particularly sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese side supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of Nigeria, and the efforts made by Nigeria in maintaining national unity, peace, security, and social stability, as well as promoting economic development and improving people’s welfare.

“The Nigeria side firmly adheres to the one-China principle, acknowledges that there is but one China in the world, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” the joint statement explained.Nigeria and China also reiterated their firm support to each other in independently seeking a development path that suits their national interest, adding that they will further strengthen exchanges on experiences of governance. Both countries “commended each other’s efforts towards the prioritisation of sustainable development and economic growth through the implementation of various developmental initiatives, aimed at achieving poverty alleviation and enhanced food security.”The joint statement further disclosed that the two sides are willing to continue to build culture brands such as the Happy Chinese New Year, Chinese-Nigeria Culture Week, Chinese Nigeria Film Festival, and Abuja International Art Fair

The two sides also resolved to strengthen mutual visits and exchanges between art groups and personnel and promote human resources training in the field’s creative culture.“The two sides will also strengthen cooperation in culture and tourism such as publishing, film and television production, cultural heritage, libraries, museums and tourism promotion.“The two sides agreed that during President Tinubu’s official visit to China, both countries reached a broad consensus and signed a series of partnership agreements and MoUs. President Tinubu’s official visit to China was a huge success and the China- Nigeria relations are on a new stage,” the statement added.

More Chinese Companies to Invest in Nigeria, Says Tuggar

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has stated that China will encourage more of its companies to invest in Nigeria.Tuggar disclosed the development in a statement yesterday, noting that Tinubu’s visit to the Asian country resulted in a significant strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.Tuggar noted that several partnership agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during Tinubu’s official visit, marking a new phase in China-Nigeria relations.

“Nigeria is willing to strengthen its partnership with China in the development of energy and mineral resources and to work with Chinese companies to set up plants in Nigeria to meet local consumption and export needs.“China will encourage more competent Chinese companies to invest in Nigeria to contribute to the diversified and dynamic development of Nigeria’s economy,” the statement said in part,” the minister added.

PoliticsNigeria Youth Movement by SpyMaster1(op): 6:14pm On Sep 06, 2024
So guys, I was doing my research and I came across this pre-independent youth organization in Nigeria.

It was called the NIGERIA YOUTH MOVEMENT.

It was formed by politically conscious and articulate Nigerians to fight the British colonial government and to gain and protect human rights for the indigenous Nigerian people.

They eventually won elections in Nigeria and the group was very strong in then lagos Colony Town council.

Till now, the youth of our great country haven't had a politically strong structure on which we can vie for elections and "create the change" that we want.

I implore us to take our destinies into our hands, get off our asses, and bring back the Nigeria youth movement (NYM).

Start from your street, town or local government, then bring it gradually across your state. Showcase your initiatives on social media, and call on youths from other states to do the same.

Then we will do a national convention where we will draw up our "Charter" which will be a manifesto on which we will educate our people and when elections comes, it will be easy to get their votes.

Like that, we can get our country back.

Violence can't get us freedom. What we need is "constructive agitation".

Who's with me?

PoliticsRe: Unpopular Opinion: Africa Is Not Resource Rich. by SpyMaster1(op):
Tsarbomba:
You may have somewhat of a grasp on the economic side but that's not the end all of everything, the continent has enough navigable waters to trade in basic goods, the importance of which is often overestimated because rivers don't need to connect to the ocean to be useful (which is what most people refer to by lack of navigable rivers); there is PLENTY of arable land, don't know where you got that from; we produce cash crops because that's the focus of most african administration, not because we can't grow anything else. Africa is rich in resources, why would we be exporting them if they weren't abundant, easy to access and useful, you yourself said that DRC exports $5.99 billion, that's not rich to you. The biggest obstacle we face is governance, we have to stop exporting every goddamn resources, we have to stop pretending to be westerners and capitalist by copying and pasting what other people are doing (they've been doing it longer than us and they benefit from institutions that were already in place, institutions that we don't have so catching up to them is out of the question). We need to actually develop a rule that actually exclusively addresses and focuses our own populations needs. We need to stop exporting our resources and trade amongst ourselves to the point of isolationism.

we need better military coordination to de-escalate and de-arm out all the jihadists and anarchists that are destabilizing regions. Africans need to build and develop within Africa, not outside of it, we need our young people to usurp influence and power from the old generation (the West is having its own challenges with this problem now), our old people have proven themselves incapable of the job due to ethnic allegiances and other nonsense, everyone just wants to do their own thing.
I completely agree with your last paragraph. My main point with the OP wasn't to say we're completely poor or to discourage Africans, the point of the OP is to stop behaving as if we have a near limitless amount of resources because we don't, Africa isn't a large single country like Russia, USA, Brazil or Australia where we can rely completely on raw material export. We are a bunch of small countries that will suffer from mediocrity, and we will return to a backwater as soon as the world stops needing our minerals because we rely far too much on them.

Your paragraph is the very reason I made this post, our countries will remain poor if we continue relying on resources like this, I mean, if Namibia had large reserves of any resource like Kuwait has oil to the point that any amount of capital invested or loan secured won't be as much of a risk, then sure I can understand putting so much reliance into natural resources, but again, we don't, and neither does any individual country apart from maybe South Africa.

PoliticsUnpopular Opinion: Africa Is Not Resource Rich. by SpyMaster1(op):
People seem to have a very flawed idea of what resources are and what "resource rich" entails.

Africa when you take it as a single entity has a lot of minerals and diverse range of minerals at that, but when you take African countries individually, they are not resource rich.

First thing with resources which is important to note, is that a resource needs to be:
A: Abundant, B: Cheap or affordable to access and use, and C: It has to be useful.

Let me start with C and explain what that really involves. For a resource to be useful you first have to know how to use it. Take Coltan and Cobalt for example which the DRC is lauded over so much. Apart from a few multinational corporations that are extremely specific and niche and have been developed and gained their knowledge over decades, no one knows how to use these minerals, even in the developed world itself, the knowledge gap for these minerals is huge, the same goes for Bauxite, and almost every other mineral found in significant amounts on this continent.

The reason I speak about usefulness is that if these minerals are not useful in our industry which doesn't even exist, the only way we can exploit them is if we export them, which not only may cause Dutch disease (Which in all honesty is already the case) but also doesn't bring in a lot of revenue. For cobalt for example, the DRC exports $5.99 billion, now that's a lot, but it should be noted that's export value*, and the government likely gets a fraction of that and for a country of 100 million people, that's nothing. And the same is true wherever you look, the revenues the Zambian government and thus the entire economy gets from copper is $6 billion, a staggering 75% of the government's revenues.

And speaking of minerals found in significant amounts, we have Diamonds, Copper, Cobalt, Gold, Uranium, and Oil. That's all well and good, but we are not the only ones who have these resources, and our resources aren't even that abundant. In terms of Diamonds, only Botswana, DRC, South Africa and Namibia have "abundant" resources and even their resources pail in comparison to Russia and Australia. The same goes for Oil, Nigeria's 50 Billion barrels are the 11th in terms of reserves, same goes for Uranium (Namibia is 5th) and Gold (SA is 8th)

Mind you, we don't even have truly useful resources, what I mean by this is, we don't have resources anyone can use, we don't have Iron ore in large amounts to at least make steel, we don't have coal which is an extremely cheap source of energy to industrialize with (I mean it is with coal that the UK and US built their entire industrial bases on) and we don't even have Lithium which is a very useful mineral that can be used to make batteries, components in electronics that aren't patent-based. These three resources are far more useful than any that are present on this continent, and we have close to negligible amounts of them.

Never mind the fact that we don't have navigable rivers (meaning logistics and transport is expensive), and finally, we don't have the arable land and the climate to produce grain in large quantities, we produce cash crops, and low-yield tropical crops like cassava and sorghum and it's a known fact that when populations urbanize they switch to Wheat consumption because Wheat is easiest to turn into flour.

African countries are only resource-rich in superficial and quite colonialist terms, unless we industrialize (and that's a big IF*) we won't truly benefit from these resources and thus, IMO, Africa is not "resource-rich".
