Health / 17 Effective And Unique Uses For Vaseline by Stanlel(m): 4:37pm On Dec 22, 2016
Beyond moisturizing your lips, this glossy salve is one of the iconic formulas that is probably there in your medicine cabinet. It is a multitasking cream, which is not meant to be used only as a lip balm, for burns, or to heal a diaper rash. From fixing squeaky doors to a shoe shiner, the petroleum jelly can be a go-to source for almost everything.
Here are our 17 favorite Vaseline hacks:

1. Lip Scrub:
Lip Scrub

For the times when applying a lip balm on your lips is just not enough, Vaseline lip scrub provides a gentle exfoliation to the lips. It can rival those expensive products available in the market.
All you need to do is grab some sugar, and add a small amount of Vaseline to it. Mix well. Gently apply and scrub this mixture on your lips. Massage in a circular motion for best results. Wipe the lips, apply lip balm, and you are ready to head out!
Tip To Pick Sugar Of Your Choice:
While selecting sugar for the above lip scrub, here is what you need to know – brown sugar is softer, white granulated sugar is more abrasive, and caster sugar is the finest. Now, the choice is yours!

2. Heals Cracked Feet:
Heals Cracked Feet

Vaseline is one of the best treatments to heal cracked feet and make your feet softer. This emollient is beneficial for your feet, and it also helps to keep your whole body smooth and supple.
Rub a coat of Vaseline on your feet at night. Put on a pair of clean socks and go to sleep.
The oils present in petroleum jelly help to seal in the moisture, and it stays on the surface of the feet for longer hours than other water–based lotions, thus promoting quicker healing.

3. Cuticle Care:

Vaseline is an effective salve for protecting and repairing dry cuticles. It is also recommended for soft hands.
Massage Vaseline into the nail bed and fingernails before sleeping, and then wear a pair of gloves.
The next morning, you will get up with softer hands and shinier fingernails.
The cuticles are made up of the same protein as our skin. So, they become dry and cracked when the skin loses moisture. The thin and non-greasy layer of Vaseline protects the cuticles from moisture loss and, at the same time, prevents dryness and heals cracked skin as well.

4. Prevents Chafing:
Prevents

Vaseline is a great chafing prevention product that can help prevent windburns and chapping while running, especially in winters.

Apply a small amount of Vaseline to the areas that are prone to chafing to prevent further rashes or irritation.
When you do so, those areas will glide rather than rubbing over each other, and thereby prevent chafing.

5 ways to improve digestion power naturally

Digestive disfunction will have several faces – gas, bloating, abdomen aches, upset stomach – we’ve all been there. Yes, there square measure many quick-fix, short term “bandaid” approaches to managing the symptoms, I see such a large amount of folks that usually pop antacids, take anti-gas, diarrhea or constipation meds simply to urge through the day. Sadly this solely manages the symptoms of a bigger downside and more usually than not the basis reason behind the disfunction is left untreated and therefore the issues still persist.

Rather than sound pills or troublesome, unnatural approaches, here square measure five straightforward, meal-time tips to boost your digestion, naturally

1)Prepare Your Digestion

15-30 minutes before time of day, drink a mug of heat lemon water, take alittle apple acetum in some water or take a biological process bitters.

These all work by stimulating the assembly of viscus juices that square measure imperative to digestion, like abdomen acid that disinfects the food and aids within the supermolecule breakdown, digestive enzymes, that work to interrupt down supermolecule into usable nutrients and gall, that helps digest fats. once food isn’t properly diminished carbs ferment, fats rancidify and proteins decay. YUCK!

Read a lot of concerning acid production and why it's necessary to digestion and different concepts for increasing production.

Read a lot of concerning the roles that biological process enzymes and gall play in digestion, likewise as further tips to support this.

2)Eat sedately

Digestion could be a north to south method and it really begins within the brain. Avoiding consumption whereas standing or driving. take away phones, shut down the tv, and keep calm. Before your 1st bite of food take five to ten slow, deep aware breaths, to start the switch of your system.

If our brain isn’t in an exceedingly relaxed, parasympathetic mode, it cannot really send the signal to the remainder of our system to try to to it’s varied jobs and most can stop to perform the least bit. once we square measure consumption on-the-go, in an exceedingly stressed, fight or flight mode (sympathetic), functions that aren't now essential (like the system, system, etc) square measure generally close up, to some extent.

This means, before any foods square measure eaten, before you get obsessed on supplements to help in digestion, or war any of those tips, none of this may even matter if none of the remainder of the system is triggered to properly work – all as a result of you're consumption in an exceedingly state of stress.

You can scan a lot of concerning the role that the brain plays in digestion and to be told a lot of ways in which to relax at time of day and eat a lot of advertently.

3)Chew your Food

Simply put, imagine the extra load you're putt on your abdomen by expecting it to interrupt down massive hunks of unchewed food. draw a bead on 30-50 chews per each bite of food. Setting your fork down between every bite conjointly helps to slow you down and encourages adequate chew.

Our mouth, our teeth and our secretion enzymes play a awfully vital role within the breakdown and digestion of our foods, especially carbohydrates. If this unchewed food continues to travel south to your abdomen, you're putt a bigger burden on your abdomen. to boot this lack of chemical breakdown, may leave the exocrine gland and it’s exocrine gland enzyme and therefore the little intestines a lot of work to try to to soon. Health / Four (4) Reasons To Avoid Taking Vegetable Oils by Stanlel(m): 9:29am On Nov 30, 2016
When creating dietary changes, adding a lot of vegetables could be a fast and straightforward thanks to get the ball rolling. Next, you would possibly suppose, “I’ll add some edible fat, too,” for a number of a lot of produce bonus points. thus you pat yourself on the rear, thinking you’re doing the correct issue, however sadly, you’d truly be wrong, very wrong. Adding edible fat to your plate or pan will do your body way more hurt than smart, thus drop the “pure vegetable” oils like Mazola and Crisco, and listen up. It’s time to urge them out of your life and here’s why:
Four (4) Reasons to Avoid Taking Vegetable Oils
Image: cottonseed oil

1) Vegetable Oils Don’t Involve Vegetables

Now hear this: there’s no vegetable profit to be gained from edible fat. several customers erroneously believe that vegetable oil, as long because it says vegetable on the label, is all smart. In fact, the unhealthiest and most typically used oils on the market contain no vegetables in the least.

So-called ‘vegetable’ oils are literally made of robust seeds and legumes that were originally adult for industrial use, not human consumption. These seeds should be treated with chemicals so as to be processed into a pourable, somewhat a lot of human-friendly liquid (and typically deodorized too, to mask the terrible smell from the chemical processing).

Among the industrial/vegetable oils to jettison: canola, corn, cottonseed, safflower, sunflower, rice bran and soy oil. At the alternative finish of the health spectrum square measure the good-for-you fruit and nut oils, together with vegetable oil, walnut oil, copra oil, and avocado oil, that square measure merely ironed to extract the oils, while not caustic chemical process.

2) Vegetable Oils square measure Unstable – inflicting You harm

Another reason not to love vegetable oils? They’re unstable, that makes them inflammatory. Saturated fats square measure a lot of stable fats as a result of their molecular structure. Unsaturated fats square measure less stable—and unsaturated fats square measure the smallest amount stable of all.

When a fat is unstable, meaning it's vulnerable to oxidation—that is, to penetration by O molecules. oxidisation causes fats to travel rancid ANd to create free radicals: atoms with an odd variety of electrons that may cause in depth harm to your cells. Any fat is modify and build this harm, however as a result of unsaturated fats square measure thus unstable, they're the foremost liable to it.

Polyunsaturated fats just like the industrial oils will become rancid merely from exposure to lightweight through a transparent glass bottle, which implies that it’s primarily gone unhealthy even before you're taking it home from the shop. Heat additionally oxidizes these sorts of fats, which implies that if you eat something steamed in AN industrial oil, you’re exposing yourself to free radicals that may cause quite ton of cellular harm.

3) edible fat Inflames Your System

Vegetable oil doesn’t continually ought to be in liquid type to try to to harm. It additionally turns up in thicker, glue-like type, in vats of Crisco, spread or tucked into thousands of processed foods. These merchandise square measure created with partly change vegetable oils or partially change fats, aka., ‘trans fats,’ and are, not astonishingly, additionally fearsome for health.

To make trans fats, makers inject further atomic number 1 into vegetable oils, that extends product period of time, in some cases, indefinitely. nice for product period of time however lousy for yours, promoting system-wide inflammation throughout your body and setting the stage for heart condition, diabetes, response conditions, and cancer down the road.

Also confine mind that ‘trans-fat free’ doesn't mean vegetable oil free, simply that it’s freed from partly change vegetable oils – and in some processed foods each trans fats and vegetable oils are going to be gift – actually the worst of each worlds. And a trans skim designation doesn’t mean that a lot of either, as a result of here within the U.S., any product will decision itself ‘trans fat-free’ as long as there’s fewer than .5 grams of trans fat per serving. Sounds O.K. until you understand that you just will still pile on the things must you grab an additional cookie (or three) or another few those ‘trans fat-free” chips.

Pretty sneaky, eh? But, fortuitously, not for an excessive amount of longer. In 2018, zero grams of trans fat per serving are going to be the law of the land, once the Food and Drug Administration ban (at last) goes into result. Regardless, ditch the processed foods – they’re a big supply of trans fats and hidden vegetable oils, each of that bring with them lots of heartbreak.

4) edible fat – wealthy in Gut and Body Disrupting Toxins

Whether you’re looking at Whole Foods or Wal-Mart, on those shelves you’ll notice a vast array of smartly marketed, superbly prepackaged, healthy-looking ‘industrial oils’ like canola, corn, cottonseed, safflower, sunflower, rice bran and soy oil.

Don’t be fooled by the pastoral packaging – what you’re extremely viewing  is one more factory-farmed pretend food, adult in nutrient-barren soil, so again, there’s very little profit to be had. What’s a lot of, these factory-made, originally-for-industrial-use oils weren’t even a part of the human diet till the first twentieth century once makers found ways in which to method them into ‘edible’ type as an inexpensive replacement for animal material and butter. however among the actually unpalatable, health-threatening problems related to these oils, those that concern American state most are:

1. Corn, cottonseed, safflower, sunflower, rice and soy square measure heavily-pesticided crops, the bulk of that are genetically changed (GM) to resist all that chemical spraying – and you finally end up ingestion them. (Toxins, anyone?).

2. These weight unit oils facilitate exterminate your healthy bacterium and alter your microbiome that ends up in gut issues, inflammation, weight gain and a number of alternative ills.

3. They additionally throw off your magnitude relation of omega-3 fatty acid and polyunsaturated fatty acid fats. Ideally, the magnitude relation of Omega 6s to Omega 3s ought to be 1:1. however our trendy consumption is a lot of like 10:1 or maybe 25:1 due, in massive half, to the utilization of business oils in processed and ready foods. once the balance is off, the overabundance of Omega 6s will trigger inflammation.

In alternative words, vegetable oils will extremely do harm – that the most prudent path is to stay the things out of your body, whether or not it’s liquid, paste or baked-in type.

BE WELL BOTTOM LINE:

1. Don’t be fooled by pretty packages, nice graphics, and phrases like ‘no trans fats’, ‘pure vegetable’, ‘all natural’ so on.

2. Instead, apprehend your oils, get the very best quality attainable, and appearance for organic or little producer or artisanal batches, to reduce and/or eliminate poisonous substance and weight unit issues.

3. On the good-for-you list square measure the fruit and nut oils, together with vegetable oil, walnut oil, copra oil, and avocado.

4. Whenever attainable, prefer oils that square measure cold-pressed. meaning they’ve not been exposed to nutrient-neutralizing high heat and chemical solvents.

5.further virgin vegetable oil (EVOO) is nice for everyday use. High-quality EVOOs are going to be dearer than unhealthy industrial oils – however consider the additional price as a tasty and worthy investment in your health.

6.rummage around for EVOO in dark glass bottles to defend it from lightweight to forestall rancidity. you'll additionally wrap the bottle in foil as another layer of protection – and don’t trouble with oils in plastic bottles.

Nairaland / General / Facebook CEO In Nigeria, Excited About Technology Drive by Stanlel(m): 5:34am On Aug 31, 2016
Facebook’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, is currently in Nigeria to see how Facebook can better support technology development and entrepreneurship in the country and other African nations.

The Facebook CEO visited a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub in Yaba, otherwise known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria, as one of his first stops on the trip.

CcHub opened in 2011 and at the time did not have an office. Five years later, they have occupied three floors and the roof of a building. At the CcHub, people can learn how to code; developers can get help, launching their first products, and find mentors and funding. At CcHub, Zuckerberg met with developers such as Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria. Life Bank saves lives by mobilising blood donations, taking inventory of all blood available in the country, and delivering blood in the right condition to where it is needed.

After visiting CcHub, Zuckerberg said, “This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can.

“The first place I got to visit was the CcHuB in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who came to the CcHub to build and launch their apps. I’m looking forward to meeting more people in Nigeria.”

He then went to Andela, an engineering organisation that is building the next generation of developers and technical leaders in Africa.

Andela is a business that recruits the most talented technologists in Africa and shapes them into world-class developers through a four-year technical leadership programme. In the two years since it was founded, Andela has accepted just over 200 engineers from a pool of more than 40,000 applicants.

Andela developers spend six months mastering a technical stack and contributing to open source projects before being placed with global technology companies as full-time, distributed teammates, working out of Andela headquarters in Lagos and Nairobi.

Responding, the Director, Andela Lagos, Seni Sulyman, said, “We are excited and honoured to welcome Zuckerberg to Lagos. His visit reinforces not only his support of Andela’s mission, but his belief that indeed the next generation of great technology leaders will come out of Lagos, Nigeria and cities across Africa.”

Crime / Police Arraign 76-year-old After Son Arrested For Fraud Flees by Stanlel(m): 5:26am On Aug 31, 2016
A 76-year-old man, Ademola Adeniran, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for an alleged fraud committed by his son, Lukman Adeniran.

The septuagenarian was arraigned on Tuesday on two counts bordering on perversion of justice.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Lukman was arrested by operatives from the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja for converting a sum of N3m given to him by a firm to his personal use.

The firm, whose name was not disclosed, had reportedly contracted Lukman to supply charcoal and given him the money, but he failed to produce the goods.

After futile efforts to get the product or retrieve the sum, the firm was said to have reported to the police, leading to Lukman’s arrest sometime in March 2015.

Our correspondent gathered that his father, Ademola, approached police operatives at the X-Squad Unit of the state police command, where Lukman was detained, and agreed to stand as a surety for him.

The suspect was said to have been granted an administrative bail, on the agreement that the father would produce him anytime he was needed at the command or pay N1.2m if he (Lukman) disappeared.

“At a point, the father could not present the suspect for prosecution. The complaint subsequently petitioned the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan and the father was arrested,” a source said.

A police prosecutor, Inspector Eshiet Eshiet, who brought Ademola before the court, said his offence contravened sections 97 (1) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The charge read, “That you, Ademola Adeniran, and one other now at large, on March 23, 2015, at Ikeja, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit: perversion of justice, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

“That you, Ademola Adeniran, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, did stand as a surety for one Lukman Adeniran in the sum of N1.2m at X-Squad Unit, Lagos State Police Command in respect of a case of obtaining money by false pretences, stealing, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, prevented him from appearing at the unit for prosecution with intent to defeat and frustrate the course of justice.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. S.K. Matepo, granted him bail and adjourned the case till September 14, 2016, after the man promised to produce his son.

Politics / Armed Herdsmen: Afenifere, Ohanaeze, ACF Disagree On Fayose’s Law by Stanlel(m): 5:13am On Aug 31, 2016
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, the Igbo socio-political organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra have expressed support for the bill assented to by the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, which categorises grazing with arms in the state as terrorism.
But the umbrella body for northern groups, the Arewa Consultative Forum, however, said any law which contravened the constitution of the country would be illegal, adding that any Nigerian was free to move in any part of the country.
Fayose had, while signing the ‘prohibition of cattle and other Ruminants Grazing in Ekiti 2016’ into law on Monday, said any herdsman, caught with any form of weapons while grazing his cattle in any part of the state, would be arrested and charged with terrorism.

Afenifere, which spoke through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, on Tuesday, described Fayose’s action as courageous and worthy of emulation.
Odumakin pointed out that the bill would put an end to the incessant attacks by the Fulani herdsmen on farmers and their farms in the southern part of the country.
He said, “The bill will stop the menace of the herdsmen, who have been terrorising their host communities.
‘‘Right from ages, herdsmen are not to carry arms when they are moving about with their cattle. But when herdsmen begin to carry unlicensed AK 47 (rifles), these are clearly not herdsmen; these are terrorists. I think the law should not smile at such people.”
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo hailed Fayose for signing the bill into law, noting that the governor took a “brave” step.
Speaking with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the law should be replicated in all parts of the country.
He added, “Fayose has done the right thing and he should be commended and encouraged for taking this brave step.
“Cattle rearing is a private business; those involved in the venture should not become a threat to other Nigerians.
“We in the Ohanaeze Youth Council are asking the South-East governors to do same in their states.
“The law, if implemented in the South-East, would check the violent activities of herdsmen in the zone, and same applies to other parts of the country where the herdsmen are wreaking havoc on their host communities.
“Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, should act fast; he should emulate Fayose if he really intends to protect lives and property in his state.”
MASSOB, while commending Fayose for signing the bill into law, said other governors in the southern part of the country, as well as the Middle Belt, should enact similar laws.
MASSOB spokesman, Samuel Edeson, said, “It is a very good development; we are expecting other governors in the southern part of the country, and the Middle Belt, to do same.
“Enugu State Governor, Ugwuanyi, should emulate Fayose because herdsmen attacks are becoming regular in the state.
“The people of Enugu State are under attack; they are being killed and the governor is not taking action.
“The attack happened only once in Ekiti State and Fayose responded immediately. What Fayose did is laudable; it is a very good development.”
ACF, which spoke through its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, on Tuesday, said any law passed by Ekiti State, which contradicted the law of the Federal Government should be considered null and void.
“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees free movement of Nigerians as long as they pursue their legitimate business,” Ibrahim added.
The ACF, however, described any individual or group that illegally carried arms against the state as a criminal.
In an interview with one of our correspondents in Kaduna, the ACF spokesman stated that any Fulani herdsmen or any other group in possession of illegal firearms were considered as criminals before the law and should be treated as criminals by the state.
“This is not the question of herdsmen or Fulani or anybody. Anybody carrying arms illegally is committing a serious offence against the state. Naturally, such people should be punished by the law.”
The President, Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima, while condemning the attacks by the herdsmen, however, expressed reservation on the new law in Ekiti State.
Shettima added, “The issue of criminality perpetrated by some people should not be seen as an avenue to criminalise others.
‘‘Fayose should have looked at the issue in collaboration with the Federal Government. So, if he is passing the law to victimise other people, I don’t think it is right.”
On his part, President, Campaign for Democracy, Abdul Usman, said the protection of people’s lives from herdsmen was necessary.
He stated, “If the Nigerian state will have so much value for animals against humanity to the extent of providing grazing reserves and importing feeds for animals, the Ekiti State Governor has done well to the deserving people of the state.
“Human protection first, then animals should follow. We have seen the unrest caused by the herdsmen; it’s quite worrisome and with this new law, a lot will be addressed.”
Also, the President, Civil Liberties Organisation, Igho Akeregha, said the grazing law in Ekiti State was a two edged sword.
He said, “Herdsmen have a right to freedom of movement with their cattle anywhere in Nigeria but while enjoying that right; they cannot be killing people anywhere they go, which is a violation of the right to life.
“Since the Governor is the Chief Security Officer of the state and has a corresponding duty to secure lives and property, the anti-grazing bill signed by Governor Ayodele Fayose is therefore in order.”
DHQ plans special task force on herdsmen killings
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters is planning a special task force to deal with the menace of the frequent clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers across the country, Meanwhile, the.
According to the Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, the task force, which is expected to address the attacks by herdsmen, is code named ‘Operation Accord’.
Abubakar told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Tuesday that while the operational headquarters of the planned operation would be in one of the six states of the North-East, it would be mandated to address the scourge of herdsmen and farmers’ clashes all over the country.
The operation, he added, would give serious attention to identified flashpoints of such clashes in the country.
“So when it is operational, we will make it known to everybody but for now, the Chief of Defence Staff has come out with that idea of forming Operation Accord which is intended to curtail the herdsmen and farmers’ clashes nationwide.”
Rich politicians behind herdsmen attacks –APC
However, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress, Segun Oni, has blamed some rich politicians, who he did not name, for the spate of attacks by Fulani herdsmen.
Oni said this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
Oni added, “This personally worries me because, these gunmen, who have suddenly become so notorious, invading villages and so on, are people that have always been around.
“But my guess is that many of these are sponsored by people who have so much money and want to create instability.’’

Niger Delta Avengers have written an open letter to President Buhari, accusing him of using the military through its new formation, Operation Crocodile Smile, to carry out pre-determined genocide in the Niger Delta region. The Nigerian Army last week launched the "Operation Crocodile Smile" which they say is just a training drill designed to prepare the Amphibious Division for a better mastery of the Niger Delta terrain.

You cannot apply the might of the state to restore the people's confidence in your leadership when you cannot differentiate between genuine demands and being mismanaged by disorganized characters and tribal lords around you in your government that are playing the court jesters role as well as counting the days that is left in your four years term. You can deceive the whole world but We cannot be deceived by the so glamorized ongoing military operations in the creeks Of Ijaw communities in the Delta coded " Operation Crocodile Smiles"... the world should know that with your pronouncement in Kenya and your attitude to the military build up in the Niger Delta, it is crystal clear that the military has nothing less than a pre-determined genocide in Niger Delta and burn more already scared national resources to the pockets of those that have failed to locate the missing Chiboks School Girls.
Conclusively, dear President Muhammadu Buhari please also tell those foreign nations that you are always at ease talking to, while refusing to listen to Nigerians that your troops are about to carrying out extra judicial killings in the Niger Delta in violation of article four of the Geneva Convention with "OPERATION CROCODILE SMILES". All sane minds knows the meaning of " CROCRODILE TEARS" so by code-naming your military operation CROCODILE SMILES only betrays your motives and attitude to the whole world about the Niger Delta question.
The whole world will surely applaud you in The Hague when you leave office! This is not the Nigeria and the world of the 1980s and 1990s under General Sani Abacha and your watch.

Crime / Kidnappers Abandon Victim As Truck Driver Blocks Their Escape Route by Stanlel(m): 7:09am On Aug 29, 2016
A gang of kidnappers in Aba, Abia State had their plans foiled when a truck driver reportedly blocked their escape route as they tried to escape with their kidnap victim, Mrs. Merit Ikechukwu, at Uratta area in Abia state.
Mrs. Ikechukwu was reportedly on her way to work when a gang of kidnappers blocked her Toyota Highlander jeep near Stella Marris road, Catholic Church, Umueze road, Aba and kidnapped her.

According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers blind folded Ikechukwu and drove in her jeep through a bush path, fortunately, residents of the area alerted soldiers who were on patrol, who quickly gave chase to the jeep.
An eye witness said:

“As the kidnappers escaped through the bush path on top speed, they came face to face with a truck driver, who had suspected the speeding Highlander jeep was stolen blocked the bush path and the villagers alerted soldiers, who moved in and joined in the chase”.
When the kidnappers realized that they were trapped by the truck and also realized that they were being pursued by soldiers and members of the community, they quickly abandoned their victim and escaped into the bush.

Fortunately, the soldiers were able tp apprehend and arrest a suspect identified as Prince while they were searching the bushes.
However, Prince denied being a member of the kidnap gang, claiming to have gone to the area to recover a debt.

But luck ran out on him when the victim, Mrs Ikechukwu, who had been rescued by the soldiers, identified him as the man who drove her jeep before she was blindfolded by the others.

The soldiers also recovered the Toyota Highlander Jeep after it was abandoned by the kidnappers.

A soldier at the Forward Operating Base, FOB, Ngwa High School, Aba, confirmed the incident Vanguard.

Politics / The Dog Named Buhari And The Baboon Christened Patience By Dr. Peregrino Brimah by Stanlel(m): 6:35am On Aug 29, 2016
This is an article written by Dr. Peregrino Brimah; @EveryNigerian. Please read on..
Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari said after the 2011 elections that “if what happened then (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.” He did not specify who would be the baboon and who will be the dog. Curiously the dog and baboon theme has persisted though not quite in the fair battle as the metaphor has it, but for whatever a proverb is worth, the identities appear to have been assigned.
In Ogun state, in May this year a former president and close friend of Nigeria's ruling government, Olusegun Obasanjo named a 3-year old chimpanzee "Patience," the name of the Nigeria's former first lady. Nigerians laughed it off. There was no arrest made and no warning. While the christening of the chimp "Patience" could be argued to have the potential to trigger bloody riots by hundreds of ex-militants with many betrothed to former president Goodluck Jonathan, this was a none issue at the time.

Today however the Nigerian police present that a similar naming in the same Ogun state of a dog, "Buhari" has the potential to incite chaos from the blood thirsty and unhinged. Like the 2011 elections, the baboon-dog fight is apparently being rigged.

Celebrity pet namings are by no means novel or unique to Nigeria. The "Teddy bear" was named after US president Theodore Roosevelt following a shooting incident.

Would it not be advisable Nigeria's law enforcement agencies focus on their responsibilities to arrest the killers of men, women and children on the rise across the nation, from farmer-killing marauding so-called herdsmen to blood thirsty fanatical zealots and mass murdering and secret mass burying government officials?
If the police continue to focus on chasing dog and baboon matters, perhaps soon the dogs and baboons will be soaked in blood.

Politics / Niger Delter Avengers Accept Dialogue, Reject Soyinka, Kalu As Negotiators by Stanlel(m): 1:08am On Aug 29, 2016
The Niger Delta Avengers on Sunday said it was ready for negotiations with the Federal Government.
The group said this in a statement on its website by its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, titled, ‘The NDA is ready when Nigerian government is ready.’
It, however, rejected the nomination of Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka; a former Abia State governor, Mr. Orji Kalu; and five others to negotiate on behalf of the group with the Federal Government.
The spokesperson for the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, representing the eastern and central parts of the Niger Delta region, Mr. Inienimi Agiri, had on Saturday said Soyinka and others would speak with the government.
The NDA’s declaration came barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari called on militants unleashing violence on the Niger Delta to enter into dialogue with his government or risk being dealt with the same way the nation’s military dealt with members of the Boko Haram sect.
The NDA on Sunday explained that it was concerned by the insensitivity to the plight of the Niger Delta agitation by successive governments of Nigeria.
The group added, “The NDA cannot be teleguided by Charles Okah and Henry Okah from their respective prison cells using disorganised characters of the All Progressives Congress from the Niger Delta to impress Abuja. We are not unaware of the creations of the Nigerian intelligentsia community and security apparatus to sustain the Niger Delta struggle to bloat their pocket and credibility.
“The NDA (members) have unequivocally given our tacit support to Chief Edwin Clark, Niger Delta Elders and Stakeholders Conference Committee to lead the Pan-Niger Delta negotiations/dialogue team, whenever this wicked entity called Nigeria shows readiness.”
‘You’ll get B’Haram treatment’
Buhari had told the Niger Delta militants unleashing violence on the area on Saturday to dialogue with his government or risk being dealt with the same way the nation’s military dealt with Boko Haram sect.
He said he was fully aware of his government’s responsibility to secure the country for economic activities to thrive.
A statement on Sunday by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the President spoke on Saturday at a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, on the sideline of the sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Nairobi, Kenya.
He told the Japanese leader that with the defeat of the Boko Haram terrorists by the military, the attention of the administration would be focused on stopping the destruction of the country’s economic assets by militants in the Niger Delta region.
Despite the violence in the region, Buhari assured existing and prospective foreign investors that their investments in Nigeria would be fully protected.
He said several steps were being taken by his administration to secure Nigeria and ease the process of doing business in the country.
“We are talking to some of their (Niger Delta militants’) leaders. We will deal with them as we dealt with Boko Haram if they refuse to talk to us.
“As a government, we know our responsibility, which is to secure the environment. It is clear to us that lenders won’t fund projects in an insecure environment.
“We realise that we have to secure the country before we can efficiently manage it,” the President said.
Buhari also told the Japanese Prime Minister that security in the Gulf of Guinea, which had been greatly affected by piracy and armed robbery at sea, was a priority for the Nigerian government.
He said, “We have provided funds to our Navy to buy new platforms, train and effectively organise the personnel to protect the area. We are looking forward to support from developed nations for satellite surveillance covering the Gulf.”
Recalling his audience with G7 leaders in Germany, which was attended by the Prime Minister, Buhari thanked Japan for responding positively to the requests by Nigeria for the rehabilitation of victims of Boko Haram sect and rebuilding of infrastructure in the north-eastern part of the country.
The President, however, said there was still more to do on education, health and other infrastructure to ensure quick and voluntary return of displaced persons to their native communities.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Abe congratulated President Buhari “for courageously tackling Boko Haram terrorism.”
He said Nigeria and Japan must work together to improve the investment climate in view of the many Japanese companies wishing to invest in Nigeria.
‘Soyinka, Kalu, won’t speak for Avengers’
The NDA, however, said the nomination of Soyinka, Kalu and five others to negotiate with the Federal Government would not work.
Others nominated by RNDA are Prof. Steve Etubom, Anthony Ani, Nalaguo Alagoa, Chief Alice Osomo and Agiri, who has been acting as the spokesman for the group.
The spokesman for the NDA said Clark-led Niger Delta Elders and Stakeholders’ Conference Committee remained the sole negotiating team known to the group.
The NDA stressed that whenever the Federal Government was ready, it should go ahead and negotiate with Clark’s team.
“Putting the records straight, the name/names being paraded as factions of the Niger Delta Avengers are just the figment of some persons’ imagination in protecting their jobs and they are hell-bent on derailing the wheel of progress in the history of Nigeria and the Niger Delta agitation.
“We are amazed that Prof. Wole Soyinka has been taken on the jugular by enemies of the Niger Delta because of his belief that the government of the day should understand the need for restructuring and listen to the Niger Delta’s agitation positively.
“That we, the NDA, have named Prof. Wole Soyinka and some incredible names to advise and lead any group is the lie of the century,” a statement by the NDA read.

Politics / Niger Delta Avengers - "Stop Arresting Innocent People In The Name Of Looking Fo by Stanlel(m): 11:03am On Jul 23, 2016
In a statement titled "Stop going after soft targets", Avengers spokesperson Brig. Gen Mudoch Agbinibo debunks the report that the Operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS Delta) arrested and paraded suspected members of the Niger Delta Avengers. (Read here). The statement reads,
"From media reports, it is clear Commodore Joseph Dzunve the Commanding officer NNS Delta has lost his sense of Professionalism, how are those innocent boys connected to NDA. We don’t know Prince David and Felix Ebiador they are not part of us. All NDA operatives are intact. No security operative has arrested any of our members.

What the commanding office NNS delta commodore is doing is to please his boss that he is working. Must he connect innocent people to us? Very soon the general public will know the truth about Nigeria Military especially Nigeria Navy that specializes in illegal oil bunkering.

Stop arresting innocent people in the name of looking for NDA operatives. It’s obvious that Nigeria Navy is incapable of policing the Nigerian maritime space. Even the Chief Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral, Ibok-Ete Ibas, made it clear while briefing the Senate that Nigeria Navy is unequipped to match the Niger Delta Avengers. So how can well-trained NDA Members bring themselves so low to be arrested by those criminal elements (Nigeria Navy)? They should follow the path of honor and morality by telling their Commander in Chief the truth instead of arresting innocent civil tagging them as nda operatives. The days of wire and battery are over we are far advance in gorilla warfare.

We are warning everybody for the last time stop associating Tomopolo to us. He is our enemy as the Nigeria government and those innocent boys paraded as NDA operatives are not part of us. From intelligent gather by NDA agency, there are other people send out by Nigeria government to sabotage the genuine struggle of liberating the Niger Delta people. The government knows those people. The so-called saboteurs take part in pipeline bombing by using some members of defunct MEND.

With an open confession by the criminals that they are paid to saboteur the Niger Delta struggle. Yet, the DSS is shielding these fed criminals because they working against the interest of the Niger Delta people. The NDA have not shared any blood neither partakes in sea piracy, Hostage taking that is not our style. The government should heed to our demand of self-determination. Mr. President everybody is tired of this thing called Nigeria. The ship call Nigeria is grounded right now and you are so confuse. You lied to your foreign allies, your citizens on daily bases. Mr. President, you even lie to yourself. Even if we are going to dialogue, it will be in the present of international community.

WE DON’T WANT A PEACE OF OUR TIME WE NEED A PEACE WITH HONOUR. God bless the people of the Niger Delta."

Politics / Niger Delta Crisis: Avengers Are Avenging Nothing –masari by Stanlel(m): 1:08am On Jul 23, 2016
The Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, has said that the Niger Delta Avengers are championing unreasonable course.
He described members of the militant group as criminals who were avenging nothing.
Masari, who spoke in an interview with journalists on Friday in Abuja, lamented the rot in the local government system and stressed the need to reform it.

He said the rot was part of the issues discussed at Thursday’s National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Masari cited the case of Katsina State where workers in some local government areas had been collecting salaries from the time they were in primary school.
Masari said, “The local government system has been abused. Even, yesterday (Thursday), at the National Economic Council meeting, the issue was raised. The purpose for which local governments were created has been defeated. The local governments are supposed to initiate and promote activities that enhance daily living. As of today, local governments cannot repair dilapidated culverts.”
According to him, in one of the local governments in Katsina State, no fewer than 132 people who never showed up for work and were collecting salaries were uncovered.

The governor said, “Some of them are housewives based in Kano, Lagos and other places. We discovered in one local government that one chieftain had 12 Automatic Teller Machine cards which he used to collect multiple salaries.
“We got somebody who claimed to be a religious leader and was collecting salary from a local government. He said he was feeding orphans.
“We discovered that some of them have been collecting salaries since they were in the primary school. Somebody, who has worked for 16 years and he is not more than 25 years. It means he has started collecting salaries since when he was in the primary school.”
On the state of the economy, Masari emphasised the need for diversification, saying Nigeria should not depend on one commodity.
He recalled that in 2014, the oil price was $114. According to him, the fall in the oil price is affecting other oil producing countries, including Saudi Arabia and Angola.

Crime / John Onose Rapes Girl In Delta by Stanlel(m): 12:56am On Jul 23, 2016
Ex-councillor, 54, defiles seven-year-old girl in Delta

A 54-year-old former councillor of Sapele Local Government Council in Delta State, Mr. John Onose, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.

The incident, it was gathered, happened on Tuesday afternoon after the ex-council lawmaker allegedly lured the kid to a nearby bush around Fovie Street before forcefully sleeping with the victim.

Mother of the teenage girl, sources told Southern City News, got wind of what was happening when she discovered that her daughter was bleeding through her vagina and anus on Wednesday.

The suspect, who is said to be married with six children, was confronted by the victim’s mother after her daughter gave details of the incident.

The KG two pupil’s mother, who identified herself as Mrs. Onome Ojakovo, told journalists at the Sapele Central Hospital, where the girl is currently receiving treatment that her daughter had earlier complained that she was having pain in her ‘bombom’ without taking her seriously.

Narrating her daughter’s ordeal, she said, “But when she came back from the school the next day and was still complaining of the pains, I decided to pull her pant, what I saw shocked me, my daughter was bleeding from her private part and her womb was pulling out.

“In my shock, I raise the alarm, which attracted our neighbours, it was then it dawned on me that my child has been sexually violated. I started crying and I couldn’t imagine who could be this wicked to have done this evil to my little child?

“I was then advised to put salt in a hot water with disinfectant. While I was forcing my daughter outside to sit on the hot water, the suspect came out of his compound and was walking to and fro.

“And when my daughter saw him, she pointed to him as the man that injured her.”

A senior officer in Sapele Police Station where the matter is being addressed, confirmed the development to Southern City News on the phone saying the suspect has been arrested.

The officer added that the result of the medical test was still being awaited.

It was gathered that the suspect was once an aide to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Igbuya.

When contacted, the spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident and added that the matter was already under investigation.

Politics / Security Guards Arrest Two Suspected Pipeline Vandals by Stanlel(m): 12:40am On Jul 23, 2016
SECURITY guards attached to Belemaoil Producing Limited, on Tuesday, arrested two suspected pipeline vandals in Rivers State.
The guards, who were among the 520 persons recently engaged by the company, said the suspects were caught while conveying some stolen petroleum products.
It will be recalled that Belemaoil had recently engaged over 520 youths in its host community to monitor and watch over oil facilities operated by the company.

While parading and handing over the suspects to the police, the leader of the team, Mr. Gibson Tiger, said the youths had intensified surveillance on all oil platforms at the creeks in the state.
Tiger stated that the youths were able to record the success because they were much acquainted with the creeks in the area.
While vowing that illegal dealings on oil products must stop in the region, Tiger said, “Belemaoil is good to us because you can see that a lot of youths now have something to do.
“You can see the number of people employed from the communities and we are recording success because we know the terrain very well.

“The communities are behind the company and we will work with them to ensure that there is peace for their operation. They have engaged us to help to stop pipeline vandalism. Illegal deals on oil need to stop because it will not do us any good.”
One of the suspects, who identified himself as Silas, said, “We were arrested in one of the creeks. We were carrying diesel produced by the oil bunkerers before the people who were on surveillance arrested us.
“Today is my first day of getting involved in this kind of business. They called me from Port Harcourt to supply the product. As we were carrying the product, they arrested us.
“I am a driver of speed boat. I don’t produce; we came to buy diesel. I started this business last month. This is my second trip. In the first operation, I made N9,000. I sell the product at Port Harcourt.
“We were going to sell the product to make money. Now that I have been caught red-handed, I want to advise others to stop oil theft. If they leave me, I will not get myself involved in it again. Even if you bring oil bunkering to my house, I will leave my house and run away. It is an illegal business,” he said.

Nairaland / General / Gunmen Attack Ogun Community, Kidnap Landlords, Rape Women by Stanlel(m): 10:10am On Jul 22, 2016
Gunmen attack Ogun community, kidnap landlords, rape women

No fewer than two landlords have been abducted and three women reportedly raped in a renewed onslaught by some gunmen on residents of Ibafo, Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that suspected militants attacked Gideon village, Oke Cele and Asiwaju communities in Ibafo, unleashing mayhem on residents and carting away property.
Our correspondent was told that the militants demanded N50m for the release of a landlord in Gideon village, identified only as Joel, who was abducted in his house.
It was learnt that before the victim was released, the militants picked another landlord and Joel’s neighbour, identified as Lucas.
Lucas was said to have been abducted in his car and driven to Ebute, where the car was dumped.
He was ferried away in a boat and had since been missing.
The gunmen were reported to have invaded homes and raped married women in front of their helpless husbands.
Our correspondent was told that on Tuesday, the militants burgled at least three houses and carted away goods in Oke Cele.
Residents and community leaders, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, lamented that security agencies could not confront the militants, calling for military bombardment of the creeks.
A resident told PUNCH Metro that the militants usually wrote letters to the communities before attacking them, adding that they moved in groups.

He said, “Before any attack, these militants would write letters and ask residents to prepare for them. When they get to their target community, they move in groups of 30s and 50s. They would go from one house to another, raping young ladies and beating up young men.”
It was learnt that the hoodlums invaded a house in Asiwaju community last Thursday and raped a nursing mother, while her husband was forced to fan them.
A community leader said while Joel was kidnapped on July 9, his neighbour, Lucas, was kidnapped on July 16.
He said, “In Gideon village, two landlords were kidnapped. The first, Mr. Joel, was released on Tuesday after 10 days in captivity. They demanded N50m for his release; I don’t know how much was paid after negotiation.
“Lucas was kidnapped last Saturday. He had not been released since then.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that the militants struck again on Tuesday when they burgled three houses in Oke Cele.
“Ibafo is under siege. A policeman told us that the militants are too powerful for the security agents and only God can deliver us,” a resident said.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that the militants were on the rampage after the clampdown on their pipeline vandalism trade.
He added that they always attacked soft targets whenever they operated.
He said, “Before the Federal Government’s clampdown on the activities of the vandals, they always hobnob with the residents. They eat with them and sleep in their houses. But after their means of survival was blocked, they decided to turn against people in the communities.
“They always look around to see where there is no heavy security presence. They attack and retreat into the creek. And it is difficult for the security agents to reach them in their fortress because of the difficult terrain.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the kidnap, adding that Joel had been released.
“We are making efforts to increase security presence in the area and to rescue the second victim,” he added.

Nairaland / General / Photo: 11 Die As Commercial Bus Explodes In Lagos by Stanlel(m): 10:02am On Jul 22, 2016
About 11 persons were killed on Thursday after a commercial bus with 14 passengers on board went up in flames on the Otedola Bridge in the Berger area of Lagos.
It was learnt that the deceased comprised eight males and three females while three persons were rescued from the wreckage alive.
Our correspondent gathered that the bus was at top speed heading towards Berger from the Mushin area of the state when one of its tyres burst.
The bus was said to have somersaulted several times before it was engulfed in flames.

Officials of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the state Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian police were on the scene of the crash.
An eyewitness, Ojo Daramola, said the accident happened around 6pm, adding that the driver had struggled to stop the bus but his efforts failed.
He said, “I wanted to buy a satchet of water when I heard the sound of a crash. A few seconds after, the bus exploded and all the passengers were trapped. The fire raged for some minutes before emergency officials came for rescue operation. People by the roadside fled to safety. I learnt the bus was coming from Mushin. Most of the passengers died.”
The LASEMA General Manager, Mr. Michael Akindele, confirmed that 11 people died in the crash.
He said three persons rescued from the explosion had been taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit at Toll gate for treatment while the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital’s morgue.
Akindele said, “A 14-passenger volkswagon commercial bus at top speed somersaulted after it tyre burst. The bus burst into fire afterwards. Eleven persons — three females and eight males — were burnt dead while three persons were rescued alive. They were taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit. We are on identification process to identify the deceased and hand them over to their families.”
The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, said firefighters responded swiftly after receiving a distress call. He advised drivers to comply with the speed limit regulation to avoid loss of life.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the bus driver, who escaped the crash, fled the scene.
She said, “The command’s operatives from the Isheri division received a call that an 18-seater bus heading towards Berger from Mushin was involved in a lone accident and caught fire. A total number of 11 people consisting three women and eight men were burnt to death instantly while four others have been rushed to the hospital.
“Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle escaped the inferno and later fled the scene immediately the accident occurred. Policemen and firefighters are on ground to put out the fire and clear the obstruction the accident might have caused.”

Politics / Halliburton: Buhari’s Wife Sues Fayose by Stanlel(m): 1:54am On Jul 21, 2016
The wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has sued the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, for alleging that she was one of those indicted for involvement in the Halliburton multi-million dollar scandal.
The President’s wife had on many occasions denied involvement in the scam with a threat to sue Fayose if he did not stop dragging her into a fraud she knew nothing about.
A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, had also declared that Aisha was not one of Nigerians mentioned in the scam or indicted for the scandal.

The EFCC investigated the scam during Lamorde’s tenure as the anti-graft boss.
But in spite of these, Fayose had insisted that the President’s wife was involved in the fraud in which Nigeria lost huge sums of money, alleging that the Federal Government’s anti-corruption war was selective and politically-motivated.
The governor claimed that Aisha Buhari was named in a document that stated she was one of those indicted in the celebrated scandal.

However, a Nigerian online medium, Premium Times reported on Wednesday night that Mrs. Buhari had dragged Fayose to court for maligning her name.
Premium Times stated that it had exclusively obtained the court summons, dated July 20, 2016, that Aisha filed against the governor.
When our correspondent contacted Fayose’s lawyer, Mr. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), on Wednesday night to confirm whether his client had been served the summons or not, his telephone number had been switched off.

Politics / Update N1.2bn Deals: EFCC Freezes Obanikoro Daughter’s Account by Stanlel(m): 1:47am On Jul 21, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has frozen an account linked to Shalewa Obanikoro, the daughter of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
According to EFCC investigators, about N1.2bn passed through the account which belongs to an oil firm.
Shalewa, who is a signatory to the account, was said to have personally mandated Fidelity Bank to transfer N800m from the account to another account within the bank.
A source in the anti-graft agency on Tuesday said, “We have frozen an account in which Obanikoro’s daughter is a signatory. She specifically mandated the bank to transfer N800m from the account to another account.
“We discovered that money was paid into the account at various times. The money came in N50m, N20m, N30m and various sums.
“She said the money was for oil and gas transactions. So, we have frozen the account as investigations continue. We want to know where the funds came from. At least N1.2bn has passed through the account.”
The EFCC was said to have made the discovery of Shalewa’s transactions when it was investigating the N4.7bn allegedly paid into the account of Obanikoro’s two sons – Babajide and Gbolahan.
The money, which was paid into the Diamond Bank of Sylvan McNamara, was allegedly shared among Obanikoro, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and the then governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
While Omisore is in detention for allegedly receiving N1.3bn, five properties, allegedly belonging to Fayose, have been seized while his three Zenith Bank accounts have been frozen.
A house belonging to Obanikoro’s two sons in Ikoyi, Lagos, has also been seized. Obanikoro and his sons have, however, remained in the United States for the last 14 months.
The anti-graft agency had, last week, quizzed Shalewa and seized her passport to prevent her from travelling to the US.
“We seized her passport because we were told that she was planning on travelling soon. We had to prevent her from travelling since she is part of the investigation,” a detective said.
Apart from the N4.7bn arms scam rocking the Obanikoro family, MOB Integrated Services Ltd, a company headed by Obanikoro’s second son, Gbolahan, was implicated by the Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede-led Presidential Committee on Verification and Reconciliation in 2012 over an alleged petroleum subsidy fraud.
The company was said to have made three transactions valued at N5,393,592,906.62. However, investigations revealed that the company only made one transaction valued at N3,261,263,992.52 verified as legitimate.
The difference of over N2bn was allegedly embezzled as MOB did not make the needed oil supply.
However, sources at the commission told our correspondent that after Obanikoro was appointed the Minister of State for Defence, the case was mysteriously suspended indefinitely.
The oil business linked to Obanikoro’s daughter has therefore opened a new dimension to the subsidy fraud case.
A source at the EFCC said, “Obanikoro’s case is very easy to investigate because unlike other politicians, he used his children to carry out most of his alleged crimes. Out of his four children, we have seen suspicious transactions in the accounts of three of them. There is no way these young guys will have billions in their accounts if they were not fronting for their father.”
Meanwhile, the EFCC on Tuesday grilled a former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, for receiving N100m from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
The EFCC, however, discovered that N15m was also transferred to Okupe from the account of Destra Investment Limited, a company owned by the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who is on trial for allegedly receiving N400m from Dasuki.
Ironically, Okupe is one of the defence witnesses in the case against Metuh.
A source at the EFCC said, “Okupe came again as usual and we grilled him over the funds he has openly confessed to receiving from Dasuki. He claims to have spent all the money but we keep making fresh discoveries.
“He received about N15m from Destra Investment Limited, owned by Metuh. Okupe is also one of Metuh’s defence witnesses. Okupe had appeared before the Federal High Court to defend Metuh and yet he (Okupe) has confessed to receiving money from Dasuki and he also collected N15m from Metuh.
“When we confronted him with evidence, he was shocked and could not respond.”

Okupe had, on May 19, 2016, told Justice Okon Abang that Metuh received N400m from Jonathan but argued that the fund could not have emanated from the ONSA.
While defending Metuh, Okupe had said, “I am surprised to hear that the Office of the National Security Adviser was used to distribute money for Jonathan’s presidential campaign. However, the President could also use his tremendous goodwill to source funds to assist his party or help to execute special programmes.
“Besides, as the candidate for election, the President has immense capacity to raise funds as a candidate. He did not use any government establishment as his pseudo-sponsor.”
It was learnt that Okupe risked being charged with conspiracy alongside Metuh depending on the outcome of investigations.
An EFCC investigator added, “With this new revelation, it is possible that Okupe knew that Metuh’s N400m emanated from the ONSA but went to court to defend Metuh in order to cover his tracks, having received N15m. We are still investigating the matter.”

Politics / EFCC Grills Salewa Obanikoro Over N800m Transaction, Seizes Her Passport by Stanlel(m): 12:56am On Jul 16, 2016
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday grilled Shalewa Obanikoro, the daughter of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, over a transaction of N800m she allegedly made.

Investigators told our correspondent that Shalewa was grilled at the Lagos office of the EFCC for several hours alongside her mother, Moroophat.

An impeccable source at the anti-graft agency said as part of investigations into the N4.7bn allegedly paid into the company account of Obanikoro’s sons – Babajide and Gbolahan – by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the commission started investigating some other members of the family.

The detective said, “Obanikoro’s wife came to our office on Friday morning as part of investigations into the N4.7bn paid into Sylvan McNamara, a company owned by her sons. During investigation, we stumbled on the account of an oil company. We then discovered that Obanikoro’s daughter was a signatory to the account of the oil company and that millions of naira was paid into the account at different times.

“We then invited the daughter and she came to meet us at the office. During investigations, we found out that the daughter gave a standing order to the bank that N800m should be moved into another account. We wondered why such a young girl would have access to such funds so we started quizzing her.

“This is a whole new dimension to the case and we will continue to investigate to find out if it is related to the arms probe or not.”

Obanikoro and his sons, who are citizens of the United States, have remained in the US for over a year.

However, the EFCC swiftly seized the US passport of Shalewa to prevent her from towing the path of her father and brothers.

The investigator said, “We were told that she was planning on travelling to the US soon so we swiftly seized her passport because she is vital to our investigation. However, we told her to be coming from home.”

Apart from the N4.7bn arms scam rocking the Obanikoro family, it will be recalled that MOB Integrated Services Ltd, a company headed by Obanikoro’s second son, Gbolahan, was implicated by the Aigboje Imokhuede-led Presidential Committee on Verification and Reconciliation in 2012.

The company was said to have made three transactions valued at N5, 393, 592,906.62. However, investigations revealed that the company only made one transaction valued at N3, 261,263,992.52 verified as legitimate.

The difference of over N2bn was said to have been embezzled as MOB did not make the needed oil supply.

However, sources at the commission told our correspondent that after Obanikoro was appointed the Minister of State for Defence, the case was mysteriously suspended indefinitely.

The latest revelation may be the missing piece of the puzzle, detectives believe.

However, the former minister said in a statement that his wife had high blood pressure and other heart-related ailments and asked security agents not to drag her into the arms probe as she knew nothing about the case.

He said, “We are using this medium to call on the officials of the EFCC to desist from persecuting an innocent woman who has no dealings at all with any of the businesses that they are investigating and totally unaware of the alleged transactions.

“For emphasis, the innocent woman has a history of high blood pressure and heart-related ailments and as such should not be dragged into their biased and politicised investigations.”

Obanikoro also denied media reports that his wife was arrested with incriminating evidence.

Politics / EFCC - How Dasuki Paid Millions Of Naira To Omisore by Stanlel(m): 6:15am On Jul 15, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has revealed why it is still holding in its custody, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2014 election in the state, Iyiola Omisore.
The anti-graft commission gave the reason in a counter-affidavit it filed before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory opposing Omisore’s bail application.
It stated that the former senator was still being investigated for money running into hundreds of millions of naira which he allegedly received from the then National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
An EFCC’s investigator, Kassim Yusuf, who deposed to the counter-affidavit, stated that Omisore had no justification for receiving the money.
Yusuf stated, “Investigation so far carried out, reveals that the applicant received hundreds of millions of naira from the office of the National Security Adviser, with nothing to show for it.
“In the course of interviewing the applicant, he has mentioned names of persons and companies through which monies from the office of the National Security Adviser got to him.
“There is a need for those persons and companies mentioned by the applicant to make some clarification.

“If the applicant is granted bail, he will interfere with witnesses and he will also prejudice and frustrate our ongoing investigation.”
Yusuf stated that Omisore received the funds through the account of Firmex Gilt Ltd.’s bank account domiciled in United Bank for Africa.
The suspect was said to be the sole signatory to the account.
He was also said to have received several payments through the account of Sylvan Menamara Ltd. with Diamond Bank Plc.
The investigator also stated that his agency had evidence of Omisore in the suspicious e-payment schedules, statements of the account and signatory mandate card.
He stated that the commission was “ investigating cases of alleged payments made by the office of immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) to individuals and companies, with nothing to show for it.
“In one of the alleged cases which the 1st respondent (EFCC) is investigating, the name of the applicant (Omisore) featured prominently as a sole signatory to Firmex Gilt Limited’s bank account domiciled in United Bank for Africa Plc.
“A copy of a letter to UBA, forwarding signatory mandate card and statement of account of Firmex Gilt Ltd.is hereby attached.
“Several payments were also made by the office of the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) into the bank account of Sylvan Menamara Ltd. domiciled in Diamond Bank, with nothing to show for it.
“Copies of e-payment schedules from ONSA and statement of accounts of Sylvan Menamara Ltd. are hereby attached.
“From Sylvan Menamara Ltd.’s Diamond Bank account, the sum of N160m was deposited into the said account on 4th August, 2014 by the then NSA.
“This sum was subsequently transferred into the Firmex Gilt Ltd.’s bank account domiciled in UBA Plc on 8th August, 2014.”

Yusuf stated that Omisore’s arrest and detention were lawful as they were backed by court orders.
He also stated that the commission was planning to invite a number of the ex-deputy governor’s associates, who he named during interrogation.
The EFCC had on July 3 arrested Omisore in relation to about N1.3bn of the Office of the NSA’s fund traced to him.
He subsequently filed the bail application before Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, seeking an order releasing him from custody.
But opposing the application on Thursday, EFCC’s lawyer, Takon Ndifon, argued that the fundamental rights enforcement suit initially filed before the court by Omisore was merely intended to frustrate his investigation.
Ndifon said Omisore was invited by the EFCC on April 11, in relation to the investigation, but promised to honour the invitation on April 14.
He said, “Instead of honouring the invitation in line with his rescheduled date of April 14, 2016, he came and misled this court by obtaining an order of interim injunction restraining the 1st respondent (EFCC) from unlawfully arresting and detaining him without following the due process of law.”
Ndifon said the anti-graft agency, in compliance with the law, obtained a warrant of arrest and remand warrant “to keep the applicant in its custody for 14 days pending the conclusion of its investigation and the arraignment of the applicant in court.”
The lawyer also picked holes in Omisore’s claim of being ill.
According to him, Omisore did not mention any ailment in his motion and that he also failed to establish that his purported ailment could not be treated in the country.
He said, “We further submit that, based on the applicant’s antecedent, if he is granted bail, he will abscond and he will never willingly present himself to the 1ts respondent for arraignment before any court of law.”
While moving his client’s bail application, Chris Uche (SAN), urged the court to grant bail to the former senator, arguing that his (Omisore’s) current detention was illegal.
He said since the court had restrained the EFCC from arresting his client, his current detention had flouted the law.

Uche also said his client’s ill health required that he be released from custody and allowed to seek medical attention outside the country.
Justice Adeniyi fixed Friday for ruling.

Politics / Arms Scandal: Buhari Orders Probe Of Ihejirika, Minimah, 52 Others by Stanlel(m): 5:59am On Jul 15, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the probe of two former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika and Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah.
The two generals are among 54 persons to be investigated for their roles in the arms scandals that saw billions of dollars meant for the procurement of arms for the Nigerian military for the prosecution of the war against Boko Haram diverted to private pockets.
Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Armed Forces, AVM Jon Ode (retd.), said this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

The order followed the approval of the recommendation of the committee charged with investigating the Defence Equipment Procurement from 2007 to 2015, for further investigation of those involved, by President Buhari, after the committee found a number of irregularities in the contract awards.
According to Ode, the approval followed the Third Interim Report of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment, which was released on Thursday.

Those under probe over third arms scam report1Among those to be investigated are 18 serving and retired military personnel, 12 serving and retired public officials and 24 Chief Executive Officers of companies involved in the procurement.
All were either accounting officers or played key roles in the Nigerian Army procurement activities during the period under review, Ode said.
Others listed for probe included a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs II, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed, and three former Permanent Secretaries in the Ministry of Defence – Mr. Bukar Goni Aji, Mr. Haruna Sanusi and Mr. E.O. Oyemomi.

Also, the Chief Executive Officers to be investigated include Col. Olu Bamgbose (retd.) of Bamverde Limited; Mr. Amity Sade of Doiyatec Comms Nigeria Ltd.; DYI Global Services and Mr. Edward Churchill of Westgate Global Trust Ltd.
According to the Committee, the total amount spent for procurement and operations within the period was N185, 843,052,564.30 and another $685,349,692.49.
The committee found that the Nigerian Army contracts awarded by the Ministry of Defence for the period under review were often awarded without “significant input from end-user (Nigerian Army) and to vendors who lacked the necessary technical competence.”
The committee report said, “As an example, three contracts with a total value of N5,940,000,000.00 were awarded to DYI Global Services Ltd. and Doiyatec Comms Nigeria Limited (owned by the same individuals) for the procurement of military hardware including 20 units of KM-38 Twin Hull Boats and six units of 4X4 Ambulances fitted with radios.

Those under probe over third arms scam reportThe committee found that the two companies collected N5,103,500,000.00, representing 86 per cent of the total value of the three contracts worth N5,940,000,000.00, but only performed to the tune of N2,992,183,705.31.
‘’In this regard, a review of the procurement carried out by Chok Ventures Ltd. and Integrated Equipment Services Ltd. established that between March 2011 and December 2013, the two companies exclusively procured various types of Toyota and Mitsubishi vehicles worth over N3bn for the Nigerian Army without any competitive bidding.
‘’Though the committee found no credible evidence of delivery of the vehicles, the vendors were fully paid based on job completion certificate authenticated by the then Chief of Logistics. Also, the analysis of the various bank accounts of the two companies showed transfers to individuals related to then Chief of Army Staff.”
The committee also found that a contract worth N169, 916,849.77 for the procurement of 53 Armoured Vehicles Spare Parts, with 90 days completion time, had yet to be completed five years after.
With respect to contracts awarded directly by the Nigerian Army, the Committee found that many of the contracts were characterised by lack of due process, in breach of extant procurement regulations and tainted by corrupts practice .

Politics / Suspected Militants Blow Up Gas Pipeline In Ogun by Stanlel(m): 5:40am On Jul 15, 2016
Suspected militants, who were said to have disguised as maintenance officers from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, have blown up a gas pipeline around PZ Estate in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.

The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday.
The residents of the community said the men had pretended as if they were officials of the NNPC, who had come to carry out routine maintenance on the gas pipeline in the area.
But the area was thrown into confusion after the hoodlums left as a loud explosion occurred later at night, shattering a section of the gas pipeline.
The loud explosion was said to have sent the residents of the community running for cover.

The affected pipeline is reported to serve an 11.4 distribution line for some companies in Ikorodu in Lagos.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, saying the state command had deployed its men in the area.
Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, added, “Some hoodlums on Tuesday went and burst a part of a gas pipeline around PZ Estate in Ogijo.
“We heard that they came as if they were officials of a company in charge of the maintenance of the gas pipeline and the residents were deceived by this ploy.
“We don’t want to conclude yet that they were militants but we call them criminals, and we will get them wherever they are.

“The command has deployed men in the area, and we are working with other sister security agencies. The Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo, Mohammed Tijani, and his team are also there. The Lagos State Police Command has also deployed men on their side in the area.”
Adejobi said as of the time of filing this report, officials of the NNPC were already carrying out repairs to the affected section of the gas pipeline.

Politics / Militants’ Attacks: Yoruba, Ijaw Leaders Meet by Stanlel(m): 5:30am On Jul 14, 2016
In order to find a lasting solution to attacks by armed militants on communities in Ogijo, Sagamu area of Ogun State, the leaders of the Yoruba Unity Forum and the Ijaw National Congress, on Wednesday, met at the palace of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Michael Sonariwo, in Sagamu.

Ogun communities which had come under deadly attacks between June and this month, in which no fewer than 35 persons were killed included Imushin, Imuti, Ebute-Ibafo, Elepete, and Igbo Olomu among others.
Many residents had fled the communities and had yet to return to their homes.

The leaders of the two parties said the purpose of the meeting was to rub minds with stakeholders in the area to ensure adequate peace among residents.
The Yoruba leaders under the umbrella of the YUF were led by Mr. Yinka Odumakin while the Chairman of Bayelsa Elders Council, Chief Francis Dokpola, led other notable leaders of Ijaw nation to the meeting.
Odumakin said the forum, worried by the ugly development in the Yoruba communities, set up a committee to liaise with the communities where the incidents happened.
He explained that the only way out of this situation was for government to consider the option of state and community policing to deal with all kinds of crimes, arguing that the ‘federal police’ had failed in this regard.
He said, “The consensus we have reached here today is that the perpetrators of the nefarious acts are criminal elements, who are going about disturbing the peace and killing people.”
Odofin of Isonyindo,Oba Samuel Gisanrin, said traditional rulers in Sagamu communities were disturbed by the development, hence the need for all stakeholders to discuss the way out of the security breach.

The Chairman of Bayelsa Elders Council, Chief Francis Dokpola, on his own part, said there was need for them to visit the Yoruba communities affected by the attacks.
The Area Commander, Sagamu Division of the police command, Mr. Ali Janga, said the hoodlums should be invited for a dialogue if such move would bring peace to the area.

Crime / 4 Policemen And 2 Kidnappers Die In Rivers State During Shootout by Stanlel(m): 5:07am On Jul 14, 2016
SIX persons, including four policemen and two kidnappers, were killed on Tuesday in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State in a gun duel between the two groups.

Kidnappers and operatives of the Rives State Police Command had clashed at the Ubima-Omerelu link road following a distress call to rescue four kidnap victims.

Our correspondent gathered that following a tip off, the police stormed the area to rescue the hostages.

It was also learnt that the kidnap gang opened fire on the security operatives when they entered the area.

A resident of the area, Miss Miracle (surname withheld), told our correspondent that the police had rescued the kidnap victims before the kidnappers, who allegedly belong to a cult group terrorising the area, ambushed the security men.

Miracle, who said that four policemen and two cultists died during the shooting, noted that the development caused tension in the community.

She also stated that policemen and soldiers had taken over Ubima, Umuanwa and Omere communities in the local government in search of the hoodlums.

Miracle added that the security operatives arrested two men suspected to be relatives of some of the suspects in Omuanwa community on Wednesday.

A resident of Ubima, Mr. Madu Amadi, said that the police stormed the community in order to rescue the kidnap victims.

Amadi also confirmed the killings and the arrest of two men.

He said, “The police got information that some victims were kidnapped and kept in the bush between Ubima and Omerelu. The kidnappers attacked members of SARS who were coming to rescue the victims.

“There was an exchange of gunfire between the cultists and the policemen, which resulted in the deaths. Because of shooting, some residents of Ubima slept in the bush on Tuesday.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omoni Nnamdi, a deputy superintendent, however, said that only two policemen lost their lives.

Omoni, who stated that two of the hoodlums sustained injuries in the crossfire, also confirmed the recovery of some ammunition.

The PPRO added, “The state police command has made a major breakthrough where its men smashed a kidnap syndicate and recovered some arms and ammunition.

“This was done following information received that kidnappers, who had earlier attacked and killed two mobile policemen attached to 48 PMF at Omerelu in Ikwerre Local Government Area and made away with their rifles.”
