Smooky81: Smartphone photography has come a long way, but capturing the true skin tones of individuals remains a challenge. To address this, Google introduced Real Tone in 2021, a feature designed to better capture darker skin tones accurately.
Now, another smartphone maker, Tecno, is joining the efforts with its #ToneProud campaign to raise awareness of skin tone diversity and promote accurate representation in smartphone photography.
What is the #ToneProud campaign? The #ToneProud campaign encourages users to embrace and take pride in their natural skin tones.
Tecno’s key innovation here is their “Universal Tone” technology, built upon a unique 268-skin tone database. The database, claimed to be developed in collaboration with color science experts, categorizes skin tones with scientific precision.
Tecno is even inviting users worldwide to join their movement. You can find your own skin tone code at 268toneproud.com, where Tecno’s database quickly identifies your unique shade with just a single click—I tried it, and it’s fast and simple.
You can mark your presence in the campaign by sharing portraits with your skin tone code on Instagram, using the hashtags #ToneProud, #UniversalTone, and #TECNO.
The company has teamed up with a diverse lineup of global celebrities for the #ToneProud campaign. Indonesian singer Anggun, Saudi filmmaker Fatima Al-Banawi, Nigerian singer Johnny Drille, and Polish actress Ewa Kępys have shared their experiences with photo misrepresentation and their belief in technology that accurately captures all skin tones.
Tecno positions its Universal Tone technology as a meaningful step toward a more inclusive society. “What Tecno is doing with its Universal Tone feature is crucial because this technology will lay the foundation for an inclusive society,” said Fatima Al-Banawi in the campaign video.
By addressing bias and promoting accurate skin tone representation, Tecno’s campaign aims to empower users to capture the full spectrum of humanity in their photos.
Smooky81: The TECNO Phantom V Fold 2 proves that cheaper phones aren't worse phones
The TECNO Phantom V Fold 2 ushers in a new wave of affordability in large foldables, improving the look and feel of its predecessor in every way, all without increasing the impressive price of that model. TECNO also launched the Phantom V Pen, an active stylus that looks and feels like an even better version of Samsung's S Pen.
The TECNO Phantom V Fold even matches the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 with nearly every conceivable feature imaginable with tons of amazing TECNO AI features.
It's a budget-friendly experience that only gets better as you dig deeper. The inclusion of such a nice case helps further improve the already impressive value of this phone.
TECNO has made some big improvements in hardware design and build quality, and that all starts with how thin the Phantom V Fold 2 is. It's 10g heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold 6—almost certainly because the battery is 1300mAh larger—but it's also 0.32mm thinner than Samsung's latest phone.
It's also easier to open than Samsung's foldables because of the curvature of the sides, giving you a nice little gap to grab with your fingernail.
TECNO backs the Phantom V Fold 2 with 2 Android OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates.
The Infinix Zero 40 4G and Tecno Spark 30 Pro are both strong mid-range smartphones offering solid features.
Powered by the MediaTek Helio G100 processor, they deliver similar performance, handling daily tasks and gaming with ease.
Both phones feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring a smooth viewing experience.
The Infinix Zero 40 4G stands out with its triple camera setup, including a 108MP main sensor, while the Tecno Spark 30 Pro relies on a single 108MP camera.
Both have a 5000mAh battery, but the Infinix supports faster 45W charging compared to the Tecno’s 33W.
In terms of storage, Infinix offers up to 256GB with 8GB of RAM, while Tecno provides 128GB with the same RAM.
Additionally, the Infinix has an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, making it more durable.
