The general practice of any standard organization is to recruit young graduates and train them for a period. They are called graduate trainees (entry level) and will undergo the program for a scheduled time frame. During that time they will also be working as some task will be delegated to them and be appraised accordingly. More like, they are on probation.

At the end of the period, a performance review is done. Those found satisfactory will be confirmed as full staff (guaranteed) while those who didn't meet the benchmark will be let go off.

No organization will train you for 18 months (some sort of investment) and discard away with you if your performance is satisfactory. The GAP is more like a fast-tracked GT programme. In an IOC like shell, it takes 2-5yrs to complete GT training depending on the job role.

This reason is why there is always a stringent recruitment process to get the best hands for the training so that the investment won't go down the drain.

That means there's no guarantee of being retained

If they didn't ask you to wait behind after you finished writing your test, my dear move on - the results usually come out immediately. But sometimes due to one or two factors, the people chosen may not meet with other set criteria during the interviews, may get a better offer from another company, or may even lose interest. In that case they may start to contact those that didn't meet the cut-off but were close.


I am not in HR so I'm not a 100% sure of this but from going through this process myself, that is what I have come to deduce.
