By Campus Reports | Federal University of Technology Ilaro | April 29, 2026

The Federal University of Technology Ilaro (FUTI), formerly Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Ogun State, has entered a new era of student leadership. In a landmark electronic voting exercise held on campus, students elected a fresh set of Student Union Government (SUG) executives to steer the affairs of the Union for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Transparent, Digital, Credible
The election was coordinated by the Student Electoral Committee and monitored by accredited agents and student representatives from start to finish. The process drew active participation from students across all schools and departments.

Dr. Joshua Omowunmi, Dean of Student Affairs, hailed the exercise as _“peaceful, free, fair and unbiased.”_ He emphasized that the constant presence of agents and Student Representatives ensured transparency and boosted confidence in the outcome.

Echoing this, Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Afolayan, Chairman of the Student Union Electoral Committee, appreciated God and the Institution’s Management for the opportunity to serve. She revealed that the electoral process was systematic — beginning with the election of Students’ Representative Council (SRC) members at constituency levels, followed by form sales, screening, manifesto presentations, and culminating in the electronic SUG election.

Dr. Afolayan commended Management for backing the electronic approach to both manifesto night and voting. _“The approach enhanced transparency and efficiency,”_ she noted. She also urged FUTI students to be more politically active, stressing that student participation deepens democratic culture on campus.
