At just 7 years old, Emmanuella's remarkable journey into technology began. Like many children her age, she loved playing with mobile phones and computers. But instead of just consuming content, she became curious about how these devices worked. With her parents' support and access to online resources, she taught herself coding basics. By age 10, she had mastered multiple programming languages including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python.

Her talent quickly gained recognition. At age 11, she became a coding instructor at the Southfield Primary School in Coventry, UK, teaching other children how to code. The United Nations acknowledged her achievements by appointing her as an SDG ambassador. Perhaps most impressively, at just 13 years old, Emmanuella was accepted to study Computer Science at Mary Baldwin University in the U.S. Her incredible journey shows that Nigerian children can compete globally in technology when given the right opportunities.

Boosting Creativity

Every child has untapped creativity waiting to blossom. Coding provides an outlet for them to turn ideas into reality. Whether creating animations, games, or apps, coding allows children to unleash their imagination. All those amazing games and apps we use today started as ideas in someone’s mind—coding brings those ideas to life.

Building Problem-Solving Skills

The world needs problem solvers—people who can think critically and develop solutions. Coding teaches kids how to break down challenges, experiment with different approaches, and think logically. By participating in coding classes, your child becomes part of a generation ready to tackle global challenges.

Preparing Them for the Future

Starting kids early with coding gives them a head start. The world is evolving rapidly, with technology driving much of this change. From artificial intelligence to innovations in robotics, coding skills are the foundation for many future careers. Paying for that coding class is an investment in your child’s future, equipping them to adapt to a world pregnant with innovations.

It was on a fateful Thursday in one of the schools where I teach coding, a day that also doubled as their open day. Parents came into the class during my lesson, with students standing to greet and welcome them. It was a challenging time, but the class continued nonetheless.

I was teaching Grade 2 students how to make animations, and after the lesson, as I prepared to dash to my next class, a parent requested to see me. She had questions about a technical issue with the laptop and software her daughter used for assignments. Her concern was that the project disappeared when the software was closed. I resolved the issue and, afterward, the parent asked a profound question:
“What is the usefulness of this class? It seems like they’re just playing.”

That question made me reflect. Coding education is gradually making its way into primary and secondary schools, and with it comes legitimate questions from parents. When they see coding class fees on the term bill, they understandably want to know if the class adds real value.
