Tell us about yourself?
This question is so broad, but you will have to direct the conversation. Start by saying something general about you then point out some interesting parts i.e your skills.

What is your greatest strength/weakness?
This question tests how self aware you are. When talking about your strength, give examples so that it won’t like your story is made up. When talking about your weakness, portray it as something you are trying to improve on and give examples too.

Why do you deserve this scholarship?
Be truthful and honest when answering this question. You have a reason you applied for the scholarship so all you need to do is put into words.

What are your career goals?
Your interviewers want to see if you have a plan. So this question gives you the opportunity to talk about what you want to do after college and how the scholarship will help you to achieve your goals.

Who is your role model?
Take this question into consideration before answering because the people you admire, say alot about you. Whoever it may be, remember to point out his/her flaws and how they inspire you inspire of those flaws.

What mistakes have you made?
Your interviewers know no human is perfect, they just want to know that you are self-aware of your flaws and what lessons you have learnt from it.

Why did you choose this school?

EducationHere Are Nigerian Ivy League Schools by STUDENTSFORUM(op): 5:09pm On Sep 14, 2018
Understanding the Nigerian Ivy League schools begins with knowing what Ivy League represents. The notion of the Ivy League has lately become a way of categorizing the highly sought after, most prestigious, highly selective Universities in the world. However, based on origin, the Ivy League actually refers to the eight schools that make up the Ivy League athletic conference in the US.

In our subsequent discussion and analysis on this topic, we shall describe what makes the Nigerian Ivy League schools unique, explain how to gain admission in any of the Ivy League schools, and give you advice on whether you should pursue an Ivy League education.

Who makes up the Nigerian Ivy League Schools?
The Nigerian IVY League schools refers to the highly sought after, most prestigious, highly selective Universities in Nigeria. These Nigerian Ivy league schools are usually viewed by many as the gold standard of Universities in Nigeria. Without a doubt, almost every Nigerian would admit that these Universities are the best in Nigeria. In alphabetical order, They Include:

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU)
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK)
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)
University of Benin (UNIBEN)
University of Ibadan (UI)
University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
University of Lagos (UNILAG)
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
As you probably know, these Nigerian Ivy League schools have extremely good reputations. They are all listed in the top 10 by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) and any other ranking system available.

On How We came about the Ivy League listing, we considered a lot of criteria during our analysis, including but not limited to;

Acceptance rate
Cost/Affordability
Available facilities
Quality of lecturers
Undergraduate Enrollment
Courses Offered & Accreditation
Academic reputation & Products
Academic calendar
Quality and Availability of campus housing
Students Life, athletics and diversity

Jobs/Vacancies3 Keys To Turning Down A Job Offer Without Burning Bridges by STUDENTSFORUM(op): 8:15am On Sep 01, 2018
Breaking up is hard to do. Especially when “breaking up” means declining a job offer that you’ve worked really hard to get. You know who it’s even harder on? The Recruiter. I can still feel that rush of anxiety I felt every time someone I was really excited about turned me down.

That being said, sometimes after receiving that exciting phone call, it becomes clear that it’s just not right for you. And because it’s taken a handful of interviews, thank you notes, and the sincerest “I-am-really-intrigued-by-what-you’re-working-on” statements, it often feels like you’ve already started building relationships with the people you’ve met with. So, when it comes time to decline an offer, it can be easy to overthink it.

To help you write that not-so-pleasant email to a hiring manager, here are the three best ways I was turned down. They resonated so well that I was able to momentarily forget that I was going to have to start my search from scratch.

1. Offer Referrals
Here’s something I found to be true really quickly when I started recruiting: Sometimes, the right company offers you the wrong job. In other words, imagine that your favorite clothing designer has just offered you a position in its accounting department, which would be really exciting if not for the fact that you haven’t opened a spreadsheet in years, and have zero interest in ever doing that kind of work again.

While you should aim to be as professional as possible when declining any job offer, you’ll want to be particularly thoughtful when turning down your dream company. One way to say “no thanks” without sounding like a total jerk? Be honest, but don’t wax poetic about why you’re turning the company down. And do offer referrals if you have them, especially in the case that you really think the company is awesome. Feel free to use the template below to let the hiring manager down ever-so-gently.

Dear Hiring Manager,

Thank you so much for the generous offer to join your team. As we discussed, I’ve admired the company for a number of years, and am a proud endorser of its products. However, after further consideration of where I currently am in my career, I will unfortunately have to decline, as much as it pains me to do so.

That being said, I have a few connections I think would be great for the role and would be happy to send their information along to you. I would also love to stay in touch via LinkedIn and have already started following you on Twitter. If there’s anything else I can send along to you, please let me know.

Thanks again,

The Person Who Can’t Believe She’s Saying No Thanks

2. Pick Up the Phone
If you want to play it safe—not to mention super considerately—think about using your phone as a phone when you turn down a job offer. I know it sounds like a crazy idea (I mean, email is so much easier, am I right?), but hear me out.

There’s one thing email in all its glory simply does not afford you: A full conversation, complete with tone. All at once.

I had a couple of top contenders tell me they were turning me down by sending me an email that might as well have been a tweet. It usually went something like this:

Dear Rich,

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately I am going to decline.

All the best,

The Person Who Just Told You No

The funniest part? Those candidates often wrote back to me six months later to check in on roles I was working on. Uh, no thanks, bub. When in doubt about how you’ll come across in an email to turn down a gig, pick up your phone and call The Person in Charge. It doesn’t have to be a long conversation (you can even leave a voicemail if you don’t get through), but make it a point to give that person more than, “Hey there, no.” To kick off your phone call, feel free to start with a simple “thanks, but no thanks,” which we’ll discuss in more detail in a minute.

3. Go With a Simple “Thanks, But No Thanks”
If you’re anything like me, you completely overthink these things. But, the truth is that you would really have to go out of your way to offend a hiring manager by declining a role. No matter how thoughtful you are about it, the logistics of it are simple: A top candidate has turned down an offer, and The Person in Charge has to start over—which we all know is not very much fun. But, here’s a little secret: In my experience as a recruiter, my disappointment never turned to resentment whenever a contender reached out to decline an offer.

Glad you enjoyed it.

EducationTop 15 Things You Can Do To Make Money On Campus by STUDENTSFORUM(op):
WHY DO YOU NEED THIS TIPS?
As a student, you tend to face so many challenges, ranging from tuition fee, hostel fee and another fee. Let me not even speak about those ones now, because you tend you pay for those ones once in a year But Do you know that the money you use in Feeding and buying Materials Is, even more, greater than the amount you spend on school fees and other fees and obviously, they are the ones that tend to consume more cash.
What are these other challenges?
-Feeding
-Photocopying
-Departmental dues
-Hostel Dues
-Faculty dues…. Etc

1. Photography: The Photography business has grown from its state in the days to a renowned profession which people are making a fortune out of. Starting this business in small-scale means you're not just making money at the moment but securing a strong financial future for yourself. You know how students especially the female folks love taking pictures, this is the perfect time to make maximum use of this opportunity. you don’t need much to start, just save a little money for a good camera, with a bit of creativity and you’re good to go. Please note that doing photography professionally requires just more than the previous requirements mentioned but this should be enough to get you started. you can also take passport photographs during school registrations.

2. Sale of Fashion Items: Interesting thing about this business is that you’d succeed no matter your gender. Both male and female wear rocks on Nigerian campuses and who else will succeed more if not their fellow students. I know of a guy who is living comfortably and paying school fees only by selling men under-wears, yes, Just men underwears, most of the times he travels out to the region where these boxer shorts are at a very low prize, buy them and bring them to his school. He sells these boxer shorts for virtually everybody in his region ranging from his lecturers down to his fellow students. I don’t want to go into details on how much these things cost, but its best you do your homework.

3. T-Shirt Customization: This business requires your creativity as a student. looking around you, you’ll notice students love the fancy and funky stuff. learning the art of this business means you’ll have fellow students begging you to collect their money for a t-shirt write up. You can learn this simple business during your stay at home/holiday. You can start in small scale by doing the write-ups on your own T-shirt, friends will like it and ask you to even do for them. Just start something. Remember the “My Oga at the Top Saga”? you see those custom t-shirts? Need I say more? – See more at:

4. Online Registration: Yes, if you have a laptop and a bit of computer knowledge, I don’t know what stops you from enjoying both the pleasure and money derived from this Job. you can register virtually everything online. Course Registration, Post-UTME Registration, JAMB Registration, Job Application, etc. You can even make extra cash from typing assignments and projects for fellow students. Do I also need to tell you the thousands of Naira made during post UTME registrations? All the tools you need to make good money are all around you, you Just need to identify one and work your way through it. –

5. Website Design/Hosting: I’ll be a bit biased on this one because that’s what I do currently and don’t know if its suitable for students or not. But I can authoritatively tell you students are tapping into the hidden money from this lucrative business. It may take a while to learn the entire concept of how these things work but its something you can easily do while you are home for holidays. Website Design may sound a bit complex so you might want to manage the little you get from setting up blogs for fellow students. This writes up may not make sense to you because you don’t know a thing about website design, its why I’ll advise you to learn from anybody who is established in it already. Look around your campus, there are students who do well comfortably with this business, it wouldn’t hurt much to meet them to put you through.

Canada welcomes more than 350,000 students from foreign jurisdictions each year. If you intend to study at a Canadian educational institution, most foreign nationals must apply for a study permit. A study permit, once issued, allows a foreign national to study in Canada at an approved institution for the duration of the specified course or program.

In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada:

If the course or program you intend to study is less that 6 months in duration.
If you are a family member or staff of a foreign representative to Canada.
If you are a member of a foreign armed force.
In order to study in Canada, you will need to obtain a Canadian study permit, which serves as a Canadian student visa for the duration of your stay. You do not need a Canadian study permit if your course or program lasts six months or less. Nonetheless, it may be a good idea to apply for a permit before you come to Canada anyway – otherwise, if you decide you want to continue your studies in another program, you’ll need to leave Canada to apply for a study permit through a visa office.

Once you have a Canadian study permit, you can apply to renew it from within Canada if you decide to continue your studies. For full-time students registered at an accredited higher education institution, a study permit also allows you to work part-time on campus. You may also be able to work off-campus, work as a co-op or intern as part of your program, stay in Canada as a permanent resident or find work after you graduate.

Eligibility and Requirement.
To be eligible to study in Canada:

You must have been accepted by a school, college, university or other educational institution in Canada.
You must prove that you have enough money to pay for your:
tuition fees;
living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada; and
return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada.
You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not be a risk to the security of Canada. You may have to provide a police certificate.
You must be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary.
You must satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.
A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) may also be required if the student is a citizen of a country from which Temporary Resident Visas are required for entry into Canada. A Temporary Resident Visa is not required for citizens of visa exempt countries.

AgricultureCellular Agriculture, The 21st Century Farming by STUDENTSFORUM(op): 3:25am On Aug 27, 2018
“We shall escape the absurdity of growing a whole chicken in order to eat the breast or wing by growing these parts separately under a suitable medium” – Winston Churchill, 1931.

There is no better way I can think of to introduce this piece than with Winston’s famous quote. Even though it was more political than technological, it has been the basis for several “out of the box” innovations as regards cellular agriculture. It will be a great mistake to presume that everyone reading this understands what cellular agriculture is all about so some details about it is explained below.

WHAT IS CELLULAR AGRICULTURE?

It is simply “laboratory farming” in which agricultural products especially animal based are developed from cell structures unlike conventional farming. It is borne out of ground breaking ideas in medicine, farming, biotechnology, food engineering, materials engineering and agricultural engineering. Food like meat, milk, eggs, and rhino horns can now be easily produced from cells and microorganisms. Lots of work has been done since 1912 when Alexis Carrel demonstrated the possibility of keeping muscle tissues alive outside the body down to most recently when NEW HARVEST hosted the first global new cellular agriculture conference months ago.

Should in case some don’t know, there is an impending disaster that will face the world by 2050 if something drastic is not done about food scarcity. With the current rate of food supply and the 9 billion people estimated to be on earth by 2050, cellular agriculture has now become a necessity not more a mere scientific pleasure.

WHY THE NEED FOR CELLULAR AGRICULTURE?

Cellular agriculture in developing countries like Nigeria and most African countries is unsurprisingly practically nonexistent. If employed, there are many socio- economic and environmental benefits it can provide. It is more or less the only lifeline to solving the numerous hazards caused by conventional agriculture. Some of the problems are explained below.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH HAZARDS

Due to the absence of viable substitutes, factory farming and other conventional farming activities are still practiced today .The former involves breeding of animals in a confined area before killing them and mass-producing meat or eggs from them which is very unhealthy to the public and the ecosystem as a whole.
According to EPA, Cows produce 130 times more excrement than that of the entire human populace every year. Further data also claim that animal agriculture is responsible for more than half of humanity’s total greenhouse gas emissions and presently cannot be regulated. Proper disposal of this waste is a pain to environmentalists as several techniques used have done little or nothing to solve the menace.
Factories dump millions of animal waste and agro chemicals into the environment every year which leads to land, water and air pollution. These wastes sometimes find its way into the groundwater thereby rendering it undrinkable.
Breeding of diseased and poorly fed animals which in turn causes havoc to the final consumers.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC HAZARDS

In many developing countries like Nigeria and most African countries, conventional livestock farming consumes a large chunk of the land mass and labour. It also leads to Cattle rustling and ethnic/religious confrontations.

ADVANTAGES OF CELLULAR AGRICULTURE

Fewer environmental impacts
Safer and purer products
Cheaper and Constant supply of food
Food design, etc.
PROBLEMS OF CELLULAR AGRICULTURE

Lack of expertise and funding
Cellular agriculture involves high level of scientific expertise unlike conventional agriculture. If fully implemented as the major source of food supply, millions of farmers will be rendered jobless especially in Africa.
Religious and ethnic beliefs.

"If education is expensive, try ignorance," is a quote that is supposed to discourage people from grumbling at the amount a few schools charge to formally educate children. But how much is too much? We can agree that the educational standard in Nigeria is pretty poor, and due to this, various private schools are springing up, promising international-standard education. The only caveat is that it will cost you, and cost you millions.

Here are the 10 Most Expensive Secondary Schools In Nigeria

10. Loyala Jesuit, Abuja: School Fees: N2.8 million

Located in Gidan Mangoro, Abuja, this private boarding school was established in 1996. The teaching and supervision is done by the members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). The school is very selective when it comes to admitting students and each student pay a fee of about N2, 800, 000.

6. Day Waterman College, Abeokuta: School Fees: N3.7 million

https://studentsforumng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Students-of-Day-Waterman-College-dwc.org_.ng_.jpg

This school has not been accorded as much attention as it should. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that it is located in Ogun state, a region not many people will automatically look at when thinking about extremely expensive schools. But they certainly are worth a second look as being on this list means they offer something special.

5. Lekki British International School, Lagos: School Fees: N4 million

Olalan:
Good info, most importantly when you have to reject a job offer gotten by referral who was sure you would take it up. As much as we seek recruiters to get back to us after a recruitment process, when offered we should also get back to them when turning down their offer.

Jobs/Vacancies3 Keys To Turning Down A Job Offer Without Burning Bridges by STUDENTSFORUM(op): 6:46am On Sep 16, 2015
Breaking up is hard to do. Especially when “breaking up” means declining a job offer that you’ve worked really hard to get. You know who it’s even harder on? The recruiter. I can still feel that rush of anxiety I felt every time someone I was really excited about turned me down.

Job Job Offer 3 Keys to Turning Down a Job Offer Without Burning Bridges Job

That being said, it’s often best to keep it short and sweet. If you’re at a loss for how to start, here’s a simple template that you can use to help you get started.

Dear Hiring Manager,

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me over the last few weeks. It was a pleasure to learn more about all the great work you and the team are up to at The Company I Am About to Turn Down.

As flattered as I am to receive an offer to join your team, I will unfortunately have to decline. If there are any questions I can answer for you, please let me know.

Warm regards,

The Candidate Who Just Said No Thanks
It’s never easy to decline a job offer, especially when you feel like you need a job. But sometimes it’s worth waiting it out for the right job, and not just one that happens to be available. Take a deep breath and don’t forget that you’re dealing with this because you’re great and people want to hire you. And because you’re great and people want to hire you, don’t be afraid to say “no thanks” to a job that you don’t want—for any reason.

EducationMUST READ: 6 English Words With Nigerian Origins by STUDENTSFORUM(op): 8:08am On Sep 12, 2015
English language is known for borrowing from other languages and every word (like everything else) has an origin.

The word “Makurdi,” for example, comes with a story. When our colonial masters first visited the area now called Makurdi, they wanted to meet the person that was in-charge. And the locals kept referring to a rich merchant, whom they called mai-kudi, which translates to ‘owner of money’ in Hausa. Knowing the white man and his habit of killing our African names started calling the whole town Makurdi. And that is how the town, Makurdi, got its name.

Which words have been borrowed from Nigerian Languages? We are going to answer that question today. GiftedGreen is going to provide you with some English words that have Nigerian Origin.
1.Okra

At first you would wonder why this word is called “Okro” in Nigeria, and yet it is spelled “Okra” in English. It is not because you do not know how to spell; it is simply because it originated from the Igbo word “okuro” which also means also known as “ladies’ fingers”.

2.Juju
No Nigerian needs an introduction to the word juju. At first, it does not seem like an English word until you check your dictionary.

According to The Free Dictionary, this word originated from Hausa. And yes, it also mentioned the Yoruba type of music in the dictionary

3.Bogus
Bogus means fake or fraudulent. Bogus is believed to be from the Hausa word “boko-boko”.

4.Tango
Tango probably originates from the word ‘tamgu’ means to dance in Ibibio. How the Ibibio’s were able to name an Argentinean dance still baffles everybody at GiftedGreen. The FreeDictionary still gives credit to the language (Ibibio) so who are we to judge?

5.Buckra
Buckra is a word used contemptuously by Black people, especially in the United States to refer a White man. This word is believed to have originated from the Efik word mba-ka-ra which means master. #slavetradethings

6.Yam
The word yam probably originated from the Fulani word “nyami”. We would bet that you did not see this one coming, did you? If you were to choose a word contributed by the Fulani, you probably would have said cow.

This list does not end here, there are also a couple of words like Dashiki, Agbada, Chigger, Obeah, and many more.
