He ran away after 2 and half years of war,went to exile and begged for amnesty to return to Nigeria after 12 years of living in exile and when he came back he expressed regrate over the war and joined politics and ask us to embrace 1 Nigeria.Meanwhile the Igbo nation are still suffering the consequencies of that war 57 years later as a result war that ended in humiliating surrender.

You can call Awolowo names but history has it that Awolowo suggested seccesion clause in the Constitution which would have helped Igbos actualise Biafra more easily but Nnamdi Azikiwe opposed it. Awolowo is a national hero.
