FoodCan I Get A Christmas Gift From You? by SunCafe(op): 2:15pm On Dec 26, 2025
Dear Nairalanders,

Merry Christmas to you in arears,

I'm kindly seeking a job in a food establishment in Lagos. Small or big. I have a certificate in Catering and Hotel Management. It's been challenging trying to get a job in a restaurant maybe because restaurants will only prefer to give jobs to people they know.

For this reason, I want to use your good willed connections to secure a job in a restaurant or for you to link me to a legitimate current opening in any restaurant in Lagos.

I would appreciate your kind gesture if you could help with the referrals.
BusinessRe: Is Nigerian Art Reserved For The Rich? (why Your Wall Is Empty)" by SunCafe(op): 5:18pm On Nov 26, 2025
SpencerForbes:
It’s really about the toxic mentality we have towards creatives in this country. A young person can be talented enough to sketch a masterpiece, yet they’ll be told they are just 'wasting pen' and need to find 'real work.' It’s demoralizing.

When you look at roadside artists with the same paintings unsold year after year, it confirms the fear that art doesn't pay. Even schools contribute to the problem when authority figures dismiss art as a path for the unserious.

This lack of support pushes talented people to drop their brushes and learn other skills just to survive. As long as we lack proper education on the importance of art, talent will continue to die a natural death.
@SpencerForbes Thank you. This is exactly the painful truth I was trying to articulate. You have hit the nail on the head: the problem isn't the talent; it's the toxic societal devaluation of the Nigerian creative.

You highlighted the three core issues perfectly:

The Parental/Societal Fear: The "wasting pen" mentality that pushes talent into guaranteed poverty, forcing artists to drop their brushes just to survive.

The Roadside Stalemate: The visual proof that "art doesn't pay" when we see the same beautiful work unsold year after year. That confirms the fear and kills the next generation of artists.

The Systemic Disregard: Even institutions dismiss art as a path for the unserious.

The Solution: We Can't Wait for the System
The reality is that changing the entire educational curriculum or the toxic 'glorified-hustle' mindset will take decades. We, as creatives and art lovers, have to fight back now by changing the economic dynamics.

This is why I’m testing a new model for accessibility.

If you agree that the art is valuable and the talent is real, then the only barrier left is access and price. My goal is to make sure that a masterpiece doesn't have to cost ₦1 million to make a living. It has to be affordable enough for every young professional to buy, proving the market exists right now.

If you, and everyone who agrees with your comment, commit to buying one piece of affordable Nigerian art this year, we solve this problem immediately.

Take a look again at the designs, and tell me: Is this new, affordable model the only way to save Nigerian art from a "natural death"?

Let's discuss how we make the market work for the creatives, not just the galleries.
BusinessIs Nigerian Art Reserved For The Rich? (why Your Wall Is Empty)" by SunCafe(op): 3:16pm On Nov 26, 2025
Fellow Nairalanders,

There’s a painful truth we need to discuss: Nigeria is brimming with talent, yet most of our homes still feature cheap foreign prints or bare walls. Why?

Many of us believe that fine art is a luxury reserved for Ikoyi galleries or foreign buyers. We’ve been conditioned to think good, original Nigerian art must cost millions.

I disagree, and I’m fighting to change that.

My name is Kay @Artista and I am an artist creating vibrant, abstract art that speaks to the Nigerian spirit—the colors, the chaos, the energy. I create art that is designed to be affordable, accessible, and high-quality for the average Nigerian home.

The Controversy: Is art a luxury or a necessity? I believe it’s a necessity for the soul and a vital part of our culture. By keeping the prices high and the distribution closed, we are starving our own culture.

I am testing a new model to make genuine, high-quality Nigerian abstract art a reality in your homes. I challenge you to look at my current collection and tell me honestly: Is this too expensive for the average Nigerian home, or is it worth investing in our own talent?

I'm posting my work on Instagram and want your candid opinion on the value. Don't just look—tell me if you would actually put this on your wall and what you think a fair price is for a piece of this quality.

Let the debate begin. Is the problem the price, or the mindset?

No.
If 'No' is the answer, I assume the president shouldn't remain in the country and seek his answers from within.
Christianity EtcWhere Are Answers To Life's Biggest Questions Found? by SunCafe(op): 8:36am On Sep 08, 2024
WHERE ARE ANSWERS TO LIFE'S BIGGEST QUESTIONS FOUND?
IN SCIENCE, PHILOSOPHY OR THE BIBLE?

The biggest question in the universe remains the creation of the world. Also the big question people have asked is if there's a God.

Life's biggest questions can be found in science, philosophy and the bible. The three sources of knowledge have respective views of existentialism but what's most is important is which of the three you believe in ?. Therefore, the answers man seeks lies in his heart.

Science, believes in evidence through facts and figures. It creates hypotheses based on 'Why' things happen. It verifies data to come up with a logical conclusion of how things are. This the reason many use science as a yardstick to find answers to life's pressing problems.

Philosophy on the other hand, is a middle man belief system that bridges science and religion. Philosophy has a neutral stance on existentialism but not completely. The narrative of philosophy is focused on 'Questions' rather than answers. Philosophy believes answers can never be found and phenomena should be questioned. The understanding of this school of thought is based on the fact that we were not in existence at the time when the biggest questions of life were being invented, therefore we don't have substantial evidence to prove anything beyond our human knowledge.

The bible on a final note, represents the religious views of existential knowledge. Religious beliefs have differing views on life's biggest questions. This is due to numerous religious belief systems that exists in the world but in summation, religion as one body, believe the creation of the universe and all events are created by a God.

Whether if science, philosophy or religion holds water or not, the big answers we seeks remains unknown, unclear and controversial. The only thing we should believe in, is a school of thought closest to the truth, and what would that be - science, philosophy or religion? The people of the world for many years have depended and relied on science as the preferred school of thought closest to the answers they seek. Maybe because it bases it answers on things we can see. Maybe because we tend to believe in things seen rather than believed. The answers remain only in our hearts.

Many people have found their answers in science, philosophy and religion. I personally think people tend to believe in what truly works for them. Some have received miracles from science, some from philosophy or religion. In real sense, man can only speak for what has worked for him. Man can only defend the 'known' rather than the 'unknown' because of his testimony.

This is the reason why we as humans cannot condemn a man because of his faith for we lack understanding why he believes in it. The same way we defend our belief systems and defend it, the same principle apply.

Not in a bid to advocate for philosophy, but philosophy helps us become free thinkers thinking on a basis of neutrality because every of our actions are unknown. Do we actually know if we are doing the right things or practising the right thing. We all go to church every Sunday, do we know if that's the right thing or not? Do you go to church because you are asked to do so or do you go because it's a culture-practise of others? These questions help you understand yourself better and find meaning of life and why you live life the way you do.

People need no longer be free thinkers, philosophers or atheists because they have found their personal answers in one school of thought. You can't judge them. It's those who don't have a strong belief system, that are liable to seek for deeper understanding of their existence. Until they find their meaning through a quest, they will always question their existence.

We are imperfect. As scientists, philosophers or spiritual beings, whoever we are, we consciously and subconsciously determine right from wrong through our faith for we lack in sufficiency of knowledge to truly understand everything nor do we have the ability to prove if the after life exist. We cannot draw a fine line between assumptions and absolute belief because our minds have been restricted by our faith in whatever we believe in. This is not to say everything written in the bible or qur'an is assumptive knowledge or sentiments of the opinion of ancient and medieval writers of the books, but how certain are we that we are practising the right things and not the ideology of a man-made set of opinion coined into a sacred book of literature? These are questions to broaden the limited human mind.

The biggest questions may seem impossible to answer now and probably forever, but we can create a sense of sanity and put an end to a insatiable thirst for the truth by just believing in one thing and sticking to it wholeheartedly.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Rail Mass Transit And Dangote Refinery, The Game Changer. by SunCafe: 7:11pm On Sep 07, 2024
You've asked critical questions and here are the answers:

what is the game that dangote refinery has changed and how has it changed the game?

A game can only be changed if you give it time to work. It's barely a year since Dangote refinery began it operations. Judgments cannot be made yet.

what are the limitations of government as an institution that citizens must acknowledge?

The limitations that citizens must acknowledge are the facts that (1) the Government has limited resources (finance) for its high population. (2) the country has low social development such as poor education which affects the population and in effect, leads to a delinquent population that create risks such as crime and corruption. These limit government's functions.

what help should Businesses, technocrats and passionate citizens give to government?

Businesses, technocrats and passionate citizens should help the government in areas of expertise where the government lacks. The government neither knows it all nor have it all and may be required to seek partnerships and support from these groups. The citizens who are passionate enough can help by participating in passive governance and also adhering to the rules of the land such as payments of taxes and obeying basic laws and orders.

where is it in the constitution that government supposed to get help from Businesses, technocrats and passionate citizens?

It is not mandatory for the citizens, businesses or technocrats to help the government. It is completely optional. But it is stated in the constitution for every citizen to fulfill their obligation to the state by paying taxes and obeying the laws of the land.

is government helping Businesses, technocrats and passionate citizens?
It is the governments responsible to help small businesses and every citizen in the country. The Nigerian government have made several efforts to help businesses and citizens but circumstances beyond its control frustrated some of these efforts. Examples of these circumstances are: inadequate financial resources, high population rate and a probable existing corruption system.

is it Businesses, technocrats and passionate citizens that is supposed to be helping government or the other way around?
The government is supposed to help businesses and citizens. In a situation, the government is unable to make meaningful development in the state, it can invite high-revenue making businesses such as banks, corporations to support the government through a system called Public Private Partnerships. In a situation the government cannot help the citizens enough, the passionate citizens should become their own government by creating a community association in their respective communities and attend to little issues that the government cannot help them with.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Departs China, Heads To UK – Presidency by SunCafe: 4:02pm On Sep 07, 2024
The two most important activities of a President is communicating and travelling.

These are the activities of a President. He/She is more or less an Ambassador that represents the country he/she governs without any need to handle any administrative task. All administrative tasks are handled by the civil service. What is required in terms of administration is strictly reviews and approvals of official documents.

The President is a CEO of a country and required to go on official visits to countries to promote his country, seek investments and foster relations.

If a CEO doesn't move out of the office to bring in businesses, he won't hit his target. Therefore, the CEO must keep developing business opportunities for the company.

The above explanation applies for the President.
PoliticsRe: How Peter Obi Planned To Remove Subsidy. (picture) by SunCafe: 2:37pm On Sep 07, 2024
Peter Obi's suggestion is a good one however, the country would need to consider the debt ceiling and the timeline for this development.

A 50% removal of subsidy is a good solution but not a complete one as this still encourages the alleged corruption taking place in the subsidy system and as well mounts more continuous debt.

The good point of Tinubu's subsidy policy is that, it halts the demand for further loans, diverting intended subsidy payments to infrastructural development.

This way, the country funds development instead and in the future, development refunds all loans taken.

If this is done properly, then the idea will become feasible.

In the issue of security, a logical analysis explains the constraint of tackling insecurity:. Imagine trying to use a can of insecticide to repel the pests in a region without harming the innocent members of the community
. That's how difficult it is in reality to get rid of terrorists in 4 years, 8 years or even 15 years. It's like a surgical operation that requires precision and patience. If there's a better way to defeat terrorism, maybe one can be re-educated.
PoliticsRe: Lagos Rail Mass Transit And Dangote Refinery, The Game Changer. by SunCafe: 10:23am On Sep 07, 2024
The entry of Dangote into the oil market is indeed a game changer.

There is no solution that can be merely evaluated as a wrong or a bad idea except tried or properly evaluated.

Government policies must first be enforced with the law to strengthen its adherence and there after, implemented to solve critical problems in the country such as the fuel problem.

Schools of thought believe the Government should handle government affairs and leave business of government to the private sector. This isn't a bad idea. Obasanjo probably saw a solution in this idea and encouraged Dangote and Otedola to buy up the refinery.

The government is an institution with limitations and the citizens must acknowledge it. Businesses, technocrats and passionate citizens should work with the government to help it.
PoliticsRe: FOCAC: Tinubu Lauds $280bn Economic Trade Partnership Between Africa And China by SunCafe: 7:52pm On Sep 06, 2024
A great development from Tinubu and his advisory team. This development will bring an alternative energy system to Africa particularly Nigeria.

Nuclear energy is a source of energy that can reduce the country's dependence on oil and relieve the power dams of pressure.

This deal will bring a huge development to Nigeria if implemented accordingly.
