Police authorities in Abuja have arrested six suspects believed to be members of a notorious armed robbery gang responsible for several violent attacks at nightclubs and recreational centres across the Federal Capital Territory. According to the Nigeria Police Force, the suspects were captured during an intelligence-led operation carried out by officers of the FCT Police Command. The operation followed several complaints from residents and business owners about repeated night attacks targeting clubs and entertainment spots in the city. Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh explained that the suspects had been linked to multiple robbery incidents where victims were threatened with weapons and forced to surrender phones, cash, and other valuables. Investigators said the gang often operated late at night and specifically targeted nightlife areas where large numbers of people gathered. During the operation, security officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the criminal activities. Authorities said investigations are still ongoing and more arrests may follow as police continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the capital. The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies. Officials emphasized that combating violent crime requires cooperation between law-enforcement authorities and members of the public. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to improve safety and reduce armed robbery incidents in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria. |
Security concerns are growing in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, following a series of attacks by insurgents believed to be linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Reports indicate that several military bases were attacked in recent days, resulting in the deaths of many Nigerian soldiers and injuries to others. Local sources say insurgents carried out coordinated raids on multiple army positions, using heavy weapons and drones during the assaults. Some of the attacks reportedly occurred near communities in the Maiduguri region, where the Nigerian military has been battling insurgent groups for more than a decade. The raids have raised concerns about the increasing strength and organization of militant groups operating in the area. Despite the attacks, troops under Operation Hadin Kai said they have successfully repelled several attempts by terrorists to overrun military positions and have killed some insurgent commanders during counter-operations. Meanwhile, lawmakers in the Nigerian Senate have called for stronger military action and better support for troops fighting insurgency in the North-East. They also paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives defending the country. Security experts warn that the renewed attacks highlight the continuing challenges Nigeria faces in ending the long-running insurgency in the Lake Chad region. |
Tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified following recent military strikes and threats of further escalation in the Middle East. Reports indicate that the conflict escalated after coordinated airstrikes by the United States and its allies targeted Iranian military and nuclear-related facilities. The strikes were reportedly aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities and preventing the country from expanding its nuclear program. In response, Iranian authorities vowed to continue resisting what they described as aggression and launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks against U.S. military installations and allied targets across the region. Some of these attacks reportedly targeted military bases and strategic locations in the Gulf region. The confrontation has raised fears of a wider regional war, as both sides continue to exchange threats and military actions. Analysts say the conflict could disrupt global energy supplies, especially if tensions affect shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for global oil transportation. Meanwhile, world leaders have called for restraint and diplomatic solutions to prevent the situation from escalating into a larger conflict that could affect millions of people in the region. Experts warn that unless diplomatic negotiations resume soon, the standoff between Iran and the United States could continue to deepen, increasing instability across the Middle East.
