Tens of thousands of residents have evacuated Jabalia since Saturday, when the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) commenced air attacks. Troops returned to Jabalia on Monday.

Fighting there and in the southern town of Rafah, where almost half of Gaza's civilian population of 2.3 million had sought refuge, has escalated in recent days.

According to the UN, 600,000 Palestinians have evacuated Rafah, and another 100,000 have been displaced as a result of renewed violence in the north.

The five Israeli soldiers murdered in Jabalia on Wednesday all belonged to the 202nd Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade.

According to Israeli media, the IDF is probing why they were hit by tank fire.

However, an early investigation revealed that the troops had taken a structure in the Jabalia refugee camp, several of yards away from Israeli tanks stationed in the region.

The tanks recognized a weapon in the structure and fired two shells at it, according to the report.

The tank fire also injured seven additional troops, three of whom were seriously injured.

EducationRe: Nigeria's Poor Level Of Education Is Reflected In The Widespread UTME Failure, A by Sunrisetrend(op): 8:15am On May 16, 2024
Sunrisetrend:
Professor Oluyemisi Obilade, a former vice chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, and former commissioner for education in Osun State, has described the widespread failure noted in the recently released results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as a true reflection of low quality education in Nigeria.

According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which administered the exam, only 23% of the 1.84 million candidates who took the test nationwide received a score of 200 out of 400, or 50%, while the remaining candidates received a score lower than 50%.
Obilade lashed out at this development, blaming it on a variety of causes, the most of which, in her opinion, were self-inflicted by society.

"Many things have gone wrong in our education sector such that the sector has been seriously devalued and nothing seems to shock us again," stated the former commissioner. When Professor I-shaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, revealed the results of this year's UTME and provided the passing and failing percentages, I wasn't shocked. She remarked, "I knew that was the real scenario.
"Today, there is no dignity in our education system," Obilade went on. These days, money is the center of everything. These days, money is worshipped.

CelebritiesAn Examination Of The Top 10 Beneficiaries Of Amapiano In Afrobeats by Sunrisetrend(op): 2:51pm On May 15, 2024
Since 2020, Amapiano has been the most popular genre in Afrobeats with the South African export helping Nigerian superstars to churn out hit records that will expand Afrobeats' global reach.

First of all, it's important to note that Nigerian artists mostly don't make Amapiano. Instead, Afrobeats acts, make a variant of the genre through the adoption of the Log drum which is applied to mirror Nigerian local drums.

Amapiano is just not a genre. It's a culture. Aside from its speaker rattling baseline, syncopated breakbeats, and underlying melodies are the language, dance, energy, and spirit that channels it. These elements reside primarily and almost exclusively with the South Africans who merged House Music and Kwaito elements to create Amapiano which boasts of a party-starting variant and the soulful and stimulating variant. This is similar to how the lamba (slang and colloquial), technique, and bubbling spirit that drives Afrobeats resides primarily with Nigerians.

While Amapiano seems to just be scratching the surface internationally, especially in the West, it has spent 3 years defining the Afrobeats soundscape. Thus spent to an extent that might promise no inventions beyond what's currently obtainable. Therefore, this writer is convinced it's not presumptuous to examine the biggest beneficiaries of Afrobeats' interaction with the imported genre....

PoliticsINCIDENT AT Businessshell Fire: Nigerian Gas Prices Are Expected To Rise by Sunrisetrend(op): 2:31pm On May 15, 2024
Nigerian consumers may pay more for liquefied natural gas as a result of Tuesday's fire at Shell's Gbaran facility in Bayelsa.
This occurs in the context of the nation's liquefied petroleum gas prices surging.

Tuesday saw explosions at Shell's Gbaran site as well as reports of smoke.
Processing about two billion standard cubic feet of gas per day, the plant is the most important part of Nigeria's LNG gas feedstock project.

Despite the event, Shell promised that it would not force the plant to shut down for business right away.

The company announced on Tuesday that it is looking into the incident's details and evaluating any possible effects on its business.
We are keeping a close eye on reports of smoke found close to our Bayelsa State Gbaran Central Processing Facility.

"We are in close contact with regulatory authorities to look into the incident and ensure the safety of the surrounding communities, even though the source appears to be external to our facility," the statement stated.

Recall that in April, the government increased the price of commercial wholesale gas by 11%, from $2.50 per Metric Million British Thermal Unit to $2.92/MMBtu,
according to Engineer Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Despite the federal government's value-added tax exemptions for goods imports since last year, the price of LPG has remained high.

Nigeria needs imports of LPG to cover 50% of its usage.

Barr Ameh Madaki, an oil and gas specialist and managing partner of BBH Consult, discussed the situation over the phone with DAILY POST.
He said that the Gbaran Shell plant is in charge of supplying LNG to gencos in Nigeria and is also responsible for the majority of the product's export.

According to him, in order to lower the price of LPG, the Nigerian government must forbid the export of LNG and LPG.

Nigeria buys LPG but is unable to export LNG. Economics is peculiar.

"The export of LPG should be prohibited if the government is sincere about bringing down the price of .....
