Politics › Re: TINUBU: Impoverishing The People Is Not ‘hard Decisions’ — It Is Bad Leadership by surgical: 10:42pm On Jan 01 |
Linzo: It is disturbing to hear people describe Tinubu as a leader who “takes hard decisions.” That claim is deeply misguided. What kind of hard decisions are we talking about?
Decisions that force people to live in pain? Removing fuel subsidy and plunging millions into hunger and hardship? Introducing tax policies that further impoverish citizens who already have no jobs, no safety nets, and no meaningful government support?
Those are not hard decisions; they are easy decisions made at the expense of the poor.
Real hard decisions look very different.
A hard decision is enacting laws that make elections free, fair, and transparent.
A hard decision is passing and enforcing tough laws that decisively stop government looting and corruption.
A hard decision is making education free and accessible at all levels.
A hard decision is empowering youths and the unemployed to become self-employed, supporting productivity, and creating sustainable jobs.
No leader has ever liberated a people by impoverishing them. True leadership improves the lives of citizens through sound, people-centered policies.
Tinubu is not taking hard decisions; he is playing politics, and ordinary Nigerians are paying the price. Your last statement said it all, it is the ordinary Nigerians that are paying the price of his reckless actions masquerading as policies or reform while he and his goons are living large He wants the nation to tighten there belt and make sacrifice but he is buy expensive suv for his legislators renovating houses for 21b,buying brand new plane, yacht, limousine for his use and that of his family, that is not good fate |

He has underperformed, he doesn't deserve re election The presidency is a job ,you apply for based on competence, while on the job, there are KPI that is used to measure performance to know if the holder is performing and deserving of another term, unfortunately Tinubu did not measure up on all the criteria, so he is retiring to bourdilon in 2027,enough of playing kite with people 's life |

IbrahimSola: But Can Obi accept to be VP to Atiku in 2027 when it shd be the turn of the South to complete 8 years? No nau
He shd have rather been his running mate in 2023 if he has been able to extract a signed agreement that Atiku will be President for just one term. Unfortunately no Nigerian wants to do one term, everyone wants to die in power as long as they do 2nd term.
In conclusion, as much as I detest this APC government, I can't support a Northern candidate at this time. Let Tilumbu do his own and go in 2031. But my instinct tells me that if Tilumbu wins in 2027 (which I know he will win), Nigeria might be restructured. And the North won't do pim. I can sense it. So if Obi is not standing as President, let him forget it, rather being VP to people that will see him as a threat of he wins. Besides, these old generations have nothing to offer this country again. you are not saying anything, we should endure a wicked, incompetent, uncaring rudderless government with the attendant suffering because of tribalism, only a fool will fall for these your manipulation, abeg shift ,who tribe help |

DomPerignon: Taxation may seem.exploitative for a population that has been used to paternalistic military regimes that hinged their illegality on getting the population to consent to their rule and one which depends largely on mineral resources as a major source of wealth.
In all truths and honesty , taxation is the only true sustainable way to maintain a society and a functioning and accountable govt.
All these years since aftee the civil war, the Nigerian economy has been sustained by exploiting the oil wealth of the Niger Delta.
It has been more of a curse than a blessing as all tiers of the executive branch just sit down and collect royalties from the oil being exploited.
This has made governance very lazy and inept and the people used to crumbs since the money isn't coming out of their pockets.
Before oil, how was Nigeria at independence able to get it right up.until the civil war?
Nigerians paid taxes and they were more involved in seeing how their tax money is spent.
Also, government on all tiers of the executive branch will focus on human development since the future funding will come from.human resources so governments will invest in education (just as Awo did) to ensure a vibrant and highly skilled and educated workforce that will be employable.
I don't know why some people from a particular section are against this tax money reform as most of them are engaged in small petty business that will be exempt from paying corporate tax.
Also, as I stated earlier in this thread, those small businesses that exploit labour will have to deduct taxes on their workforce and remit to the FIRS. This will then expose them paying exploitative low wages and they will be forced to pay minimum wage .
These small businesses will have to ensure their staff are enrolled into the National Health insurance scheme and pay monthly premiums for each staff. They are also expected to ensure their staff are captured under the Pension scheme.
All these will lead to better working conditions, improved pay for the staff, guarranted pension savings that will be invested to grow the economy and more people enrolled in the health insurance scheme that will go back to improving health care.
Anyone opposed to this tax reform is ignorant of the benefits to the common man. Money can now be set aside for unemployment benefits for those who were paying taxes but lost their jobs. oga you don't know shit ,it's not every situation you apply taxation, go and read your economic text book There some situation you give incentive just like now You guys have started again that was how you people were all over the place selling fuel subsidy removal and floating of foreign exchange as the only solution if we don't want the country to collapse, its been 3 years since then ,the country has gone from bad to worse, now the next fall guy now is taxation, by the time you exhaust all this option through copy and paste every body will see you guys for what you guys are, incompetent voodoo copy and paste economist Trial and error government |
Politics › Re: Plain Truth About The New Tax Law. by surgical: 10:07pm On Dec 24, 2025 |
nairalanda1: I agree with what you have said. Thanks for responding to me in a civilized way
My problem is
1. Even if we judiciously used the money, 55 trillion naira is not enough for a nation of 230 million people. I don't support tinubu, think he is corrupt, but if we raised the tax to gdp properly we might see some more money than that
2. And even then, much of that 54 trillion is borrowed . Oil, which forms most of our revenue is dropping in price well well. Revenues will fall as a result. Tax unfortunately is the only option we have for now until government does some actual.doversoficarion.
There is a reason why I don't like apc or any of the other parties. It's called oil dependency. look at this way buhari was paying subsidy, all the subsidies, and was borrowing but not as much as Tinubu corruption was very high too during his tenure but people were better off than this Tinubu time, inflation was less ,I am a pensioner, buhari will pay from 25th and before month end of every month, pays arrears regularly, same with workers but since Tinubu enters nothing ,this Christmas he has not paid anything, maybe till next year that is what he has been doing, workers too ,many arrears he has not paid, while governors are paying 13th month and some like ebonyi governor is adding 150k to each worker,Tinubu is paying late with no extra kobold,Tinubu do not need extra money, he lacks managerial skills, he has been promoted beyond his level of competence, it is not only workers and pensioners, even contractors are in dilemma, you ask what is he doing with the money, bribe national assembly, pay terrorist, bribe judges and defectors etc My bother I am yoruba let's tell ourselves the truth, this guy can't deliver he has disgraced us |
Politics › Re: Plain Truth About The New Tax Law. by surgical: 8:51pm On Dec 24, 2025 |
nairalanda1: The only other option is to borrow even more then.
Simple and short.
Oil is going to keep falling in the foreseeable future. Oil also forms 80% of our revenue and we need it at 150 dollars per barrel to earn a revenue that makes sense.
Anyone quoting me should tell me how we can raise more money without tax and borrowing.
Don't mention fighting corruption because while it is very necessary, it still does not raise our overall income. it is not about getting more ,it's about judicious use, Tinubu is a frivolous spender, the ones he is been earning what has he been spending it on frivolities This shows Tinubu is not as sound as they want us to believe, in some climes with this kind of economic situation such a country will lower taxes to grow the economy not tax them to futher improvish them That's how he heard that removal of fuel subsidy will be the panacea for the problem of the country without deep thought, he went beyond fuel, enter, education, enter electricity, enter forex, infact increased borrowing to unprecedented hight, same will be this tax issue, they are telling Nigerians are not paying enough taxes. Without evaluating the Nigerian circumstances, if he goes ahead with the tax just as subsidy, he would have succeeded in futher punishing Nigerians without achieving anything, infact this is the time for tax incentives |
