FCTA partners investors to build International Cattle/ Fresh Produce Markets

Arrangements have been concluded to build an International Cattle Market in Tungan-Maje area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The market, which will be built in partnership with a private investor, according to the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, will be of international standard, to make it a hub of cattle trade in the West African sub-region.

Speaking after reviewing the activities of the FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Senator Mohammed said that, the International Cattle Market, when built, would serve cattle dealers in the FCT, some states of the Federation and other neighbouring countries.

The Minister further disclosed that, the FCT Administration is also, planning to establish a Fresh Produce Market in Tungan-Maje, where a South African financier will be investing about $45 million (about N6.75 billion) for that purpose, for the benefit of the residents of the FCT and Nigerian farmers in general.

Also, he revealed that, a modern abattoir is also being negotiated with a private investor, that is expected to serve the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.

[color=#006600]Senator Mohammed reiterated that, the entire process of meat haulage would soon be reactivated, with the aim of standardising meat transportation from abattoirs to the meat vending stands in the markets, across the Territory.

According to him, a private investor is already working on providing refrigerating Hilux Vans with standard steel cabinets, for that purpose only, which will be marked “Abuja Meat Vans” and will only carry meat.
