I took this pic the last time we traveled home.

I am no politician, or even aspire to be, but I have to ask, with all the rubbish we see of our politicians in Ovation and the proliferation of Naija self promotion magazines internationally, do these people have no shame displaying all their "wealth" while their constituencies live like this?

I swear at the time I was glad( even if terrified of accident) it was only myself and my brothers traveling on this road.

How does one begin to justify this to anyone who is not Naija?
my dear this ur own na old gist. d road is so beautiful. plz ask d indigenes of ebonyi state how the road to ogoja looked like as of last year, u go know say this ur own dey learn.

Nigeria: Muslim Group Wants Indecent Dressing Bill
Daily Trust (Abuja)

18 July 2008
Posted to the web 18 July 2008

Zakariyya Adaramola
Lagos

Alarmed by the dressing habits of young women on the streets, Lagos-based Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged members of the National Assembly to pass the bill seeking to ban indecent dressing in public places.

MURIC said the issue of indecent dressing should be addressed by the legislators with seriousness as it is one of the major causes of corruption.

According to the group, indecent dressing is a major motivation for crimes like rape and stealing of public funds.

It said in a statement signed by its director, Dr. Ishaq Akintola and made available to Daily Trust in Lagos yesterday that indecent dressing is usually seen as an issue that must be addressed in serious establishments.

It said; "We charge the Senate to do everything necessary to pass the bill into law. MURIC calls upon government to ban irresponsible dressing in its offices. It is a major motivation for corrupt practices. Scantily dressed females influence male workers to steal public funds in order to have enough money to spend on them. We must decide whether we want to run hotels or decent public institutions".

It said the legislators should discard opposition coming from women liberation groups and the Nigerian Bar Association as urgent passage of the bill would do the country a lot of good.

MURIC said the argument of those opposing the passage lacks was morally weak. "They are as dry as they are worthless. They have the noun 'deceit' and the verb 'to deceive'", it said.

The statement read in part: "Unless we want to deceive ourselves, we all know the negative effect of allowing the use of provocative dresses in public places. Women dress to kill to get contracts for which they are not qualified and they will get the contracts so long as men are in position to award them. They use indecent dressing to take undue advantage. Indecent dressing is tantamount to sexual harassment.

It would be recalled that the proposed bill for an Act to prohibit and punish public nudity, sexual intimidation and other related offences in Nigeria is being sponsored by Senator Eme Ufot Ekaette, the chairperson of the Senate committee on women and children. Senator Titus Olupitan also sponsored a similar bill titled, "An Act to Prohibit Indecent or Disgusting Bodily Exposure in Public Places" in 2004.

http://allafrica.com/stories/200807180284.html
for the records, it is not d dress or wat the dress reveals that earns them the contract, rather it is what they do with wat d dress reveals. covering all parts of the body will not remove the p*****y from its permanent location, neither will it stop men from lusting after women nor will it stop women from using their p*****y to gain contracts.  fully clothed people even do worse than the half clothed.  inasmuch as i don't support indecent dressing,  it is baseless to say that indecent dressing is the cause of rape and stealing of public funds. cos most of the rape victims we have in nigeria are all girls in their pre-teen. who were raped either by their father, uncles, cousins, houseboys, gatemen, robbers, e.t.c where these innocent girls indecently dressed? even muslim girls with all parts of their body covered (from head to toe) are also victims of rape.

What about those traditional dance costumes that expose the tummy and the thighs?

I just don't see any reason why the freedom to wear what we want should be taken away from us! Why should some people sit somewhere and try to force a dress code on us? We are all free thinking humans. Wouldn't it be better if they focused on bills that gives more recognition of our human rights than those than actually take some of those rights away form us.

Like that odili.net article said, why should we impose a dress code on someone else's wife and daughters on his behalf?

Will they be imposing neck high and floor length costumes next?
that is it. how can u tell another man;s wife what to wear. what if her husband's likes her exposing all? cos i knw a couple of men who love dat. who is the govt to complain?

Scientific research has conclusively established that ALL women are in fact naked under their clothes, and it is thus high time that the most serious offenders, i.e. the fat or old ones, of which the above two photographs are prime examples, should be tied together and towed out to sea off the coast of Lagos, where they must remain until further notice.
u think thats the best solution?

i don't know what to say about this really,on one hand they are trying to put a rein on the cleavage thing gone haywire amongst nigerian girls, and to be perfectly honest anyone that has experienced not just the dressing but the desperation of naija girls with guys once they perceive you are loaded will see where these senators are coming from, however on the other hand i think its time we moved away from the dark ages of girls wearing iro and buba or bou bou or even telling a girl what to wear, plus there are more pressing priorities for them to sort out so i think im sort of in the middle
don't be suprised the bill is getting so much airtime, its mainly the middle aged and old women senators and their friends whose husbands have been spirited away by these girls with "nuclear weapon cleavages" you know what they say, hell hath no fury like a woman,or housewife or whaever wife scorned, knowing how women are they will use all the powers they have to pass the bill grin
i understand ur point, especially d way chiks dress to kill these days, but that is not an issue for the federal govt to spend time on, or is nigeria now a sharia country?

The thing is that people are assuming that not lspending of coins is all down to "big manism". If everyone was made to understand that coins mare legal tender and that hence they cannot just be refused because the person receiving it doesn't feel like, then we are talking. Because i won't be surprised if not a lot of traders don't take it. But if not, it is a very useful tool for controlling inflation, as will be redomination and more use of cards as a means of payment.
why would a trader accept coins when the bank won;t accept it? if by the end  of the day all her customers pays her in coins and she wants to deposit her days' proceeds in bank, won't she run into problems?

LOL, @ow11 please give the coins value first before you assume it is "big man" syndrome. So you want people to be carrying a bag of coins to by tom tom?
if tom tom goes for 2.35k u would not be needing a wallet talkless of a bag
PoliticsRe: Charles Soludo And Coins by tabakyl(op): 11:52am On Jul 17, 2008
ow11:
Coins are used in every major economy in the west and it somehow slows down inflation. It is only in Nigeria where the people affected by 'big man syndrome' cannot carry coins else they be labelled poor. Rather than increase goods in multiples of 5 or 10. It can be done in 1's or 2's.

Pure water for example, may have jumped to 7 naira rather than 10. The effect of the 3 naira would be seen in a bulk purchase. These apparent loose change when added up in an entire year can save Nigerians thousands of naira.
excellent point

Do you reall mean what you are writing, i.e,

Soludo should come up with a list like this below

1. TomTom = N2.35K
2. Maggi = N4.30K
3. Cup of Garri= N3.20K
4. Pencil = N1.20K
5. Okro = N0.20K
6.
7.
8.
9.

I am very sure that you don't mean it, lol shocked
that is exactly wat i want him to do. cos if the money is not accepted anywhere,it means we can;t spend it. and if we can;t spend it, meaning their aim of re-inventing the coins is defeated

Does Nigeria as a country not have more than enough problems for SOMEONE that FEELS LIKE SHE UNDERSTANDS THE NEEDS OF THE MASSES  to consider trivial and inconsequential issue like  THE BILL OF NUDITY when there are practically no roads, contaminated water, epileptic power supply, rotten system of  government, porous security, 0% job opportunity, very expensive food supplies , blocked drainage system, unrealiable police officers, pot bellied politician who usurp the nations wealth, etc ?

as the chairperson of the senate committee on women and children, is senator eme ufot ekaette's job to endanger women and children or to protect them? this bill is a very dangerous one. like the old saying goes ''' be careful what u wish for cos u might just get it'''

The lines are very blurred on this topic. What might be trashy to some might be alright to others. Many factors come into play, religious beliefs etc To some a lowish top is alright but to others women must button up to the neck. I do agree that there is a limit that should not be crossed. Anything where you can bend over and your panty shows is trashy. One can be classy and sexy without being trashy. There is a big difference.
i think i totally agree with u on this.
But i really want to know which religion permits indecent dressing? and how come the factors that come into play does'nt affect the way guys dress?? must it be ladies that everything affects not minding if its good or bad?

If you are wearing a bikini top and have no boobs, who are you offending? I mean before baby and marrige. Gwen Stefani walked around with her non existant boobs in bikini tops and capri pants or skirts, looked fine to me.

If it were someone curvy, it would look kind of trashy.
did u just say bikini? for crying out loud where are bikinis worn? i don;t care who wears it, gwen stefani or Angelina Jolie,boob-FULL or boob-LESS, but one thing that i'm sure of is that the original designer of bikinis had beach and swimming pools in mind before he or she came up with the idea of bikini. so wearing bikinis along the street is the height of TRASH
