Science/Technology / Secure Windows 8: Secure Boot, Factory Reset And Refresh by tacinicys: 1:59am On Nov 19, 2012
Microsoft is no stranger to catering for password-protected login, or to providing on board antivirus protection. Windows 8 builds on what has gone before, so let’s talk a look at what’s on offer and how to use it.

Windows 8: Secure Boot

Secure Boot might not be the most exciting of security features, but it could help you out a lot. There’s malware that can get itself ready to do its worst as your computer boots up, so in Windows 8 Microsoft has implemented a boot system to make sure everything that’s pre-loading actually has a right to do so, by verifying its security certificates. In theory, nothing should be able to lurk and boot without permission.

Windows 8: Factory Reset and Refresh

If things go completely pear-shaped and you find yourself wishing you could start all over again, Windows 8 offers two ways to do this: Refresh, and Factory Reset.

Refresh reinstalls the operating system, but keeps all your data, settings and any installed Metro apps safe. It will remove any non-metro programs, though. Refresh also helps you with the application reinstall process by making a list of removed apps, so you can easily work through that to get back to a working state.

Alternatively, you can implement a Factory Reset, taking your operating system right back to how it was when you first took it out of the box. That ought to get rid of lurking malware, but it will also remove all applications, personal data and settings – everything, so it needs to be used with great care. With luck you’ll only need factory reset once – when you decide to sell or pass your computer on to a new user.

To use either Refresh or Factory Reset, choose the Settings Charm, then More PC Settings. Now scroll down the left-hand settings options till you get to General and select that. Scroll right down to the bottom of the options on the right-hand side and you’ll find both Refresh and Factory Reset there.

What's more, you can also protect your Windows 8 with a traditional text password which is likely with forgotten Windows 7 password, a picture password, a PIN code and a Windows Live account. So if you forgot Windows 8 password, just use the above ways to reset or recover it.

When the logon screen appears, press Ctrl+Alt+DEL twice to bring up the classic logon box. Then try to log into that administrator account without password.

Computers / How To Protect My Excel Spreadsheets With A Password? by tacinicys: 9:03am On Jul 22, 2012
Many individuals and businesses use Excel spreadsheets to calculate and monitor sensitive financial information. Microsoft Excel contains many features to protect the data in a worksheet. Password protecting a spreadsheet requires a password to open and modify a spreadsheet. To password protect your Excel file you must encrypt the spreadsheet. Encrypting a spreadsheet converts the text of the document to an unreadable format. Upon entering the password, Microsoft Excel converts the document to its original format, allowing the user to view the information in the spreadsheet.

Excel offers a very similar style of protection to Microsoft Word. Just click on File, Save As and follow these steps:
Step 1: Click on Tools in the upper right corner of the file save dialog box
Step 2: Click on General Options
Step 3: You can enter a password in the box next to Password to open if you wish the file to be completely inaccessible without the password
Or, you can click on the Advanced button next to the password box to choose a higher level of encryption that is even harder to break into
Step 4: You can enter a password in the box next to Password to modify if it is OK for others to open the file, but you want to restrict who can make changes to the file
Step 5: Click on OK to close the General Options box
Step 6: Select a name for your file and click Save

On on hand, a password created for for MS Excel spreadsheet is safe to prevent from prying eyes; on the other hand, if you forgot the open password, what would you do to regain access the Office Excel files? For instance, you are now using an Excel 2007 spreadsheet for financial affairs meeting. But the password you set before is lost. How to recover Excel 2007 password to get into it? At this time, an efficient way is to take an Excel 2007 password recovery tool to do so, such as Excel Password Unlocker, which is powerful to solve the trouble with 3 kinds of attacks.
Technology Market / What Have You Know About MS Office 2013? by tacinicys: 10:44am On Jul 18, 2012
Microsoft on June 16 announced a new Office that the enterprise software giant has give a final, official name. The business productivity application suite, which the news media are calling either Office 2013 or Office 15 until Microsoft lays down the final branding, comes with a host of improvements designed to make the software more cloud- and mobile-friendly.

When Will Office 2013 Launch?

Microsoft is not saying when Office 2013 and the Office 365 companion products will launch. But given that the new Office is called Office 2013, it's a good bet that we won't see the new software suite until next year. Microsoft released Office 2010, the most recent version of the productivity suite, in June 2010, seven months after the initial beta release.

How Much Will Office 2013 Cost?

Since Microsoft isn't discussing pricing yet, we don't know how much the company hopes to charge Office 365 Home Premium subscribers. Microsoft charged $150 for Office 2010 Home and Student Edition, so that's probably a good ballpark figure for the amount that non-365 users will pay for the boxed versions.

Will Android and iOS Apps Be Available?

We've heard some rumblings indicating that native iOS apps (and possibly Android apps) will be available as part of the new Office 365 subscriptions when Office 2013 launches. Windows-focused blogger Paul Thurrott reports that Android and iOS apps may even count against the five installs for Office 365 users. Microsoft already offers OneNote for iOS and Android devices. Rumors about Office for the iPad have been circulating for some time.

As most of users, we still use ms Office 2010 or its previous editons. No matter when MS Office 2013 will be released, ms office users need to confront with the trouble what should we do to recover Office password. For preventing prying eyes, we would like to password protected the ms Excel worksheet. When putting the password in, the computer gives a hint that the password is wrong. How to recover Excel password? How to open the excel worksheet without much effort? We are looking forward to MS Office 2013 which may gives a big surprise for the password protection.

If you decide to retrieve password to open office document by software, Office Password Unlocker is highly recommended for Office password recovery, which is developed to recover passwords for MS Word/ Excel 2007/2003/2000/97 and PPT/Access 2007. Computers / How Do I Recover Files That I Have Deleted? by tacinicys: 10:52am On Jul 09, 2012
Question: How do I Recover Files That I've Deleted? As long as Windows allows files to be deleted, we'll need to find ways to recover them. A time machine is probably not a viable solution to undo an accidental file deletion so we're left with finding some way to recover the file.

Believe it or not, it's not hard to recover a file that you've deleted, even one from a media card or USB drive and even one from your hard drive after emptying the Recycle Bin.

Answer: The best way to recover a file is to use a free file recovery program.

We all delete files we wish we wouldn't have and in most cases, the only way to get them back is to recover them using a file recovery program.

Many programs exist that recover files, several of which try to charge you for this "magic" service. Let me assure you, no wizard is necessary to recover a deleted file. You can recover a file, for free, all by yourself, with a freeware file recovery program.

I keep an updated list of programs that recover files in my List of the Best Free File Recovery Programs. Any of these completely free programs will recover (or "undelete"wink any kind of file you might have deleted.

Note: You do not need to have any of these programs installed before you delete the file, which is great news. You can install one of these programs, perform the scan of your system, and recover any files that haven't been overwritten by other data.

Important: You can greatly increase the chance that a file recovery program can recover your file by minimizing your computer use as soon as you realize that you need to recover something. The more data your computer saves to your hard drive (or other storage device), the greater the possibility that the area of the drive that is still storing your file will be overwritten. If that happens, your file will be lost forever.

So if you've deleted a file and you've found this article in an attempt to find a way to recover it, check out that list of file recovery programs right now, choose one, download and install it, and have it scan your computer for all recoverable files. If you're lucky, your file will be in good shape and able to be completely recovered.

It seems to be an easy thing to do your file or data recovery on your own. But if you have created a Word or Excel password, it is not easy to recover Word password or recover Excel password. As it happens, the best way is to take an Word or Excel password recovery tool to solve the problem, like Office Password Unlocker, which supports to recover password for MS Word, Excel, PPT, Access with 3 types of attacks.

Technology Market / Replace Passwords With Facial Recognition On Windows And Mac OS X by tacinicys: 9:18am On Jun 26, 2012
Operating systems are evolving, be it on a mobile or desktop platform. In fact software giants are introducing unique features to keep their loyal users and fans engaged. The latest Windows 8 OS from the Redmond based software giant features a refreshingly new Metro UI and a touch friendly interface to stay in the tablet game. Same is the case with Mac, Linux, Android, Windows Phone and iOS operating systems when it comes to changes or innovation for that matter. But often the old software version users are denied access to these new features.

The one area where changes have occurred over time is the way users login to these operating systems. The security app that lets admins secure OS on Windows 8 now includes a picture password feature and whereas Android features a new face unlock facial recognition technology. But what does Windows users prior to Windows 8 and Mac OS X users have got to boast about. We have already covered a facial recognition app for Windows 7 that allows users to set face a login security measure but again it was not available for Mac OS.

Meet KeyLemon a freeware that is available for Windows and Mac OS X that lets you replace the old-fashioned passwords with new sci-fi like biometric system. It uses facial recognition technology to store users face model and later allow access if a correct match is found after scanning. Once installed KeyLemon works along with the standard Windows login system and will be displayed on the logon screen itself. So you can also login manually in case something goes wrong.

Download and install KeyLemon free version to get started. Now follow the steps in setup wizard to correctly set a face model for your desktop. The steps includes selecting a camera source, positioning yourself in front of the camera, creating a face model and then confirming by setting a suitable reference name. Note that while creating face models make sure enough light is falling on your face and avoid strong backlight. Once confirmed the KeyLemon biometric system will be enabled and will co-exist along with standard Windows or Mac login tool.

In this free KeyLemon version, Control Center can be accessed to change profile settings, create a new face model and enable or disable LemonDay plugin. LemonDay plugin is free and it tracks face evolution by automatically saving images daily. It improves the quality of service and also makes KeyLemon more efficient in scanning face in different lighting conditions.

But most of Windows 7 users still use the traditional text password for their Windows login, which may make a big troule of forgot Windows password. With the sadness, they have nothing to do but complain. Actually, it is not a terrible thing if you have created a password reset disk or a password hint before. Of course, if possible, you can also download a Windows 7 password recovery tool to solve the trouble.

With the coming of Windows 8, we can update our Windows 7 and also use the facial recognition as the login password which is indeed convenient for us to password protected the laptop securely.

Technology Market / How To Enable BIOS Passwords For Extra Security? by tacinicys: 1:37am On Jun 14, 2012
Your PC likely asks for your username and password to grant access to Windows, a nice security measure, but ineffective if someone has physical access to your hard drive. (They'll just install it in another PC and boot from a different disk.) You should enable hard drive encryption for the best protection against data thieves. But also use additional BIOS tricks enable more layers of security, asking for another password to boot, access the drive, or change BIOS settings. Here's how to adjust those system settings.

Enter the BIOS configuration when starting PC. Press the prompted key; often, it's an F-Key, Delete, or ESC. Navigate with the arrow keys, select with Enter, and back out with ESC. Different BIOS interfaces vary, but look for the security settings. Here's how the options on a common PhoenixBIOS system work.

Supervisor Password: Enable and change this password to prevent someone from changing these BIOS settings in the future. For example, if you don't want someone booting from a CD or external drive on one of your work systems, first disable those options in the Boot menu, and then enable the password here. If troubleshooting in the future, you can restore those boot options after entering the BIOS password.

User Password: Add an extra password prompt before getting to the Windows login screen. This provides a small, extra security step against unauthorized access. First set the user password, then enable it on boot.

HDD Password: For the best disk protection short of encrypting your drive, enable the hard disk password. If this option is supported on your system, the password settings are stored on the disk itself, preventing access even if installed in another PC. A data-recovery service could likely still access your files since they're unencrypted. So remember that it's still possible—although quite difficult—for someone else to access the data.

Remember your passwords. Store them on another PC or somewhere else secure; if you forget any of these, the reset process can be difficult or impossible. Use the BIOS settings you want to disable these passwords in the future. Enter the box to make a change, enter the old password, and then leave the new password blank.

By the way, in order to keep your Windows being accessed by illegimate persons, you also need to set a Windows login password. When logon the laptop, it will ask for a login password. Of course, compared to bios password, it can be a big trouble if you forgot Windows password. As a Windows 7 user, i have encountered the terrible trouble before, and luckily, a tool named Windows Password Unlocker gives the way to bypass Windows 7 password in a short time.
Technology Market / How To Remove Passwords From RAR Files? by tacinicys: 11:35am On Jun 08, 2012
Roshal ARchive (RAR) files are archives consisting of much larger files compressed to save space and facilitate easier transfer between computers. RAR files can also be encrypted with a password to prevent unauthorized access. When passwords are used during compression, the compressed files are encrypted using the password as an encryption key. Once they have been encrypted they are unreadable without the password. If you forget the password for an archive, you can use one of several programs to attempt recovery. These programs check a number of different passwords one after another, until they find one that works.

Option 1: Create a New Archive File Without Password Restriction
As a password can be set to protect the file from unauthorized access, when the file is double-clicked, the user is prompted to enter a password. But if you entered a wrong password, the file remains locked. Well, you can remove the password restrictions on RAR files by creating a new archive file.
1. Double-click the RAR file to open.
2. Enter the password when prompted. The contents of the file are then extracted.
3. Right-click the extracted file and click "Add to Archive." The "Archive Name and Parameters" window launches.
4. Click the "Advanced" tab and then click "Set Password."
5. Empty any text in the both password boxes in the Set Password window.
6. Click the "OK" button to save the settings. A new RAR archive file is created without a password.

Option 2: Remove the Password with a RAR Password Recovery
When you can not still access into the rar files with password protected, at this time you can take a rar password recovery tool to get in. RAR Password Unlocker is proved to be a helpful tool when you forgot WinRAR/RAR password and cannot open the RAR archives. It can recover RAR password at high speed via 3 attack options: Brute-force, Brute-force with user-defined Mask and Dictionary.
1. Download, install and launch RAR Password Unlocker.
2. Click "Open" to load your RAR file. Click "Open" again to continue.
3. Select the type of attack you want to use to retrieve your RAR password: brute-force attack, brute-force attack with mask or dictionary attack.
4. Click "Start" to retrieve your RAR password. The process may take several minutes to complete.
5. Click "OK" when you remove WINRAR password to exit RAR Password Unlocker.

Technology Market / How To Encrypt Files With Your Windows 7 PC? by tacinicys: 4:31am On May 30, 2012
Snoopers and thieves can easily access files and passwords on your computer, even without your Windows password. All they do is insert a special disc (such as UBCD4Win or Hiren's BootCD) into your computer and power it up. The computer will then boot from the operating system on the disc, bypassing the Windows operating system installed on the PC--and any passwords you’ve set--and giving the intruders access to your hard drives.

If you want to protect your computer from this kind of hackers, you have to encrypt the files for avoiding other access. That's why we're going to show you three different methods for using encryption tools on your PC.

If you're looking to encrypt only a few sensitive documents, we recommend using TrueCrypt, which lets you create virtual encrypted disks where you can protect select files. TrueCrypt is a free encryption program that allows you to disguise the contents of a file or entire storage device as random data.

Stop using EFS. Instead, switch to TrueCrypt. It's free, open-source, and dependable. No matter what computer you're using it on, if you have the password, you can get in. Without the password, you never will.

I don't recommend encrypting your entire drive with TrueCrypt, although that's possible. Instead, create one or more encrypted file containers, and keep your sensitive files in them. Leave the rest of your data unencrypted.

On the other hand, in case your work PC's data is important enough that you want to encrypt the entire hard drive, we'll show you how to do that, too. Windows 7 and Windows Vista's Ultimate and Enterprise editions include a feature called BitLocker that can encrypt whole hard drives, right down to the system files and password caches.

If you want full drive encryption but don't have Windows in its Ultimate or Enterprise flavor, don't worry. We'll also walk you through the process of using the third-party DiskCryptor utility to encrypt your whole hard drive--and you (probably) won't have to reformat to get started. What's more, it's absolutely free.

Of course, it is still necessary to create a Windows 7 password which can solve a lot of trouble. On the other hand, if you forgot password Windows 7, it can be an annoying and terrible thing. For this, here I would like to share with you a Windows password recovery tool named Windows Password Unlocker to do the job.

Windows Password Unlocker can help you reset forgotten Windows local administrator, domain administrator and other user account passwords on Windows 7/Vista/XP/2008/ 2003/2000. 100% Windows password reset rate guaranteed.
