It's a nationally televised slow-speed chase across California freeways until police persuade him to surrender. - June 1995: During Simpson's trial, a prosecutor asks him to put on a pair of gloves believed worn by the killer. The gloves appear too small, leading defense attorney Johnnie Cochran to famously state in his closing argument: "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit." - Oct. 3, 1995: Simpson is acquitted of murder. - February 1997: After a trial in a civil suit filed by the victims' families, a jury finds Simpson liable for the deaths and orders him to pay survivors $33.5 million. - July 2007: A federal bankruptcy judge awards the rights to a book by Simpson, in which he discusses how he could have committed the killings, to Goldman's family as partial payment of the judgment. Stewart guilty of kidnapping, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and conspiracy charges. The other accomplices had taken plea deals and received probation. - December 2008: Simpson is sentenced to nine to 33 years and sent to Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada. - October 2010: The Nevada Supreme Court denies Simpson's appeal but grants Stewart a new trial. Stewart takes a plea deal and is released. - July 25, 2013: Simpson asks the Nevada Parole Board for leniency, saying he has tried to be a model prisoner. He wins parole on some convictions but is left with at least four more years to serve. - July 20, 2017: A four-member parole board unanimously grants Simpson parole, effective Oct. 1. The board cites the low risk he might commit another crime, his community support and a release plan that includes moving to Florida, where he has family. - Oct. 1, 2017: Just past midnight, Simpson is released from Lovelock Correctional after serving nine years for the botched hotel-room heist. |
If Simpson is planning to settle down in Florida it won't happen any time soon; State Parole and Probation Captain Shawn Arruti says Simpson plans to live in Nevada for the foreseeable future. He said Simpson only has one approved home, and that's in the Las Vegas area - though the exact location hasn't been confirmed for security reasons Other details of Simpson's probation - which will end in exactly five years, but could be shorter if Simpson displays good behavior, pays his fees and fines on time and studies or works 'diligently' - have also emerged. Every month he must write a report about his activities to officials, and he cannot associated with convicted felons or anyone engaged in criminal activity. His parole officer is also allowed to prohibit him from associating with anyone else. He also needs to submit to blood or urine tests whenever his probation officer demands - to check for illegal drugs, illegally obtained prescription drugs or alcohol levels higher than .08, which is the legal limit for driving in Nevada. OJ won't even be able to smoke marijuana in states where the drug is legal. And, of course, he is prohibiting from possessing or using weapons unless they are needed for a job, with prior agreement from the parole board. Early Sunday morning the Nevada Department of Corrections released a video and picture on Facebook showing Simpson signing documents and leaving Lovelock as a free man. Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of murder charges in the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, 35, and her friend Ronald Goldman, 25, in what was arguably the most highly publicized murder trial in recent history. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/10/01/16/44EC8E8C00000578-4937868-Exit_OJ_Simpson_looks_out_to_the_parking_lot_of_the_correctional-a-8_1506870886007.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/10/02/04/44DC309F00000578-4939246-Simpson_is_seen_here_speaking_during_his_parole_hearing_at_Lovel-a-3_1506914863883.jpg |

Scotto had run into the gas station when the cameraman approached Simpson, who was sitting all alone in the vehicle. 'Man, how in the world - have y'all been stalking me?' he asked with a chuckle. Declining to say where he was headed, Simpson continued: 'I been in nowhere USA for the last nine years doing nothing. Nothing has changed in my life! What do you guys - I mean, what do you guys expect? There's nothing changed. 'God bless, take care, you guys,' he concluded. 'Nothing's changed!' Simpson, now 70, was sentenced to 33 years in prison in 2008 for robbing a pair of sports memorabilia traders in a Las Vegas hotel room, but won parole in July due to good behavior and other credits earned in custody. He was released from the prison, which is located around 90 miles east of Reno, Nevada, after midnight on Sunday morning to avoid media attention. Scotto waited outside for his friend, who walked out the door with little fanfare in the middle of the night in hopes of avoiding a media frenzy. There had been talk of Simpson moving to Naples, Florida, but that will not be happening any time soon, especially after that state's attorney general Pam Bondi very publicly declaring that she does not want the recently incarcerated felon heading to the Sunshine State. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/10/01/23/44F0BC2A00000578-4939246-image-a-3_1506898053636.jpg Simpson was spotted sitting in a white SUV in an otherwise unremarkable gas station, along with late-night truckers. The Juice is loose, but he is not going very far. OJ Simpson was spotted for the first time since he walked out the doors of Lovelock Correctional Center just after midnight on Sunday, with the paroled felon stopping off at a Nevada gas station five hours away from the prison. He sat in the backseat of a white SUV alongside the five boxes of personal belongings he took from his nine years behind bars as he and good friend Tom Scotto made their way to Las Vegas, where Simpson will be forced to live until a parole officer approves any planned move outside the state. The disgraced football star, 70, was outfitted in same jean hat, jean shirt, jeans and white sneakers he had on when he left Lovelock earlier in the day as he was asked what it felt like to finally be a free man. 'I been in a car for the last five hours, so how do I know how it feels to be out?' scoffed Simpson. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/10/01/22/44F033D300000578-0-image-a-16_1506894425836.jpg OJ Simpson was spotted hours after leaving Lovelock Correctional Institute in Nevada, sitting in a gas station in the state. 11:58 p.m.: Officers inform the public that the shooter is "down" About 20 minutes after clearing the second room of the suite, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department informed the panicked public that the gunman was down. A little over a half-hour later, the department sent out a second tweet, declaring that the incident was over.
|
11:20 p.m.–11:27 p.m.: A SWAT team finally breaks into the shooter's room More than an hour after the shooting began, police finally entered Paddock's hotel suite, after a SWAT unit set off an explosive device that allowed officers to breach the door. They found Paddock on the floor, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It remains unclear when Paddock killed himself. Inside the suite, officers were able to clear the first room, but found that the bedroom door was locked. Seven minutes later, they breached that door as well, confirming that the dead shooter was the only attacker. Police later found 23 weapons inside the hotel room, including several assault rifles modified to shoot like automatic weapons. Paddock, who had checked into the hotel three days earlier, on Sept. 28, had brought the weapons to the room using "in excess of 10 suitcases," according to police. |
10:55 p.m.: Officers arrive in a stairwell near the gunman's room A team of eight, including two K9 personnel, a SWAT officer, and patrol officers, all carrying tactical gear and rifles, approached Paddock's room, spotting the cameras the shooter had placed outside the suite. Discharged rounds littered the hotel hallway, and through the holes in the hotel room door, officers could see a gun, Lombardo said. At that point, they were told to wait for backup. "They pulled back and waited for the approach of a full SWAT team," Lombardo told reporters Wednesday, defending the decision to wait before entering the room. "Keep in mind the delay was not undue. It was purposeful, and no shots were being heard by the suspect at this point."
|
10:26 p.m.–10:30 p.m.: Additional officers arrive at the hotel and begin checking rooms for injured people Ten minutes after the last gunshot sounded, eight more officers arrived on the 32nd floor and began evacuating the other hotel rooms, and checking for anyone who may have sustained injuries. "They could not hear additional firing," Lombardo said, but "they believed it was important to evacuate in case the suspect was barricaded
|
10:18 p.m.: Security guard tells officers he has been shot and gives them the gunman's room number As officers got out of the elevator on the 32nd floor, they found security guard Jesus Campos, who had been shot by the gunman, and identified the room where the shooter was located. Though the timing of Campos's arrival at the scene is not clear, the security guard was the first person to approach the room, police said Wednesday, as he tried to locate the source of the gunfire. Paddock apparently spotted Campos through his surveillance cameras, and began shooting through the hotel room door. Though Paddock fired well over 200 times, Lombardo said, Campos was struck just once, in the thigh. "It's amazing that security guard didn't sustain additional injury," the sheriff said. Campos remained on the scene — and provided officers his master keycard to check other hotel rooms — until others insisted he seek medical attention, Lombardo said. The security guard remains in stable condition, and was at home Wednesday ahead of a surgery to treat his injury, the president of his union told CNN. |
10:17 p.m.: First officers arrive on the 32nd floor After police pinpointed the gunman's location on the 32nd floor of the hotel, the first two officers arrived on the scene. "The officers in the first strike team reached the 32nd floor within 12 minutes, which is phenomenal, of the first shot being fired," Lombardo said.
|
10:15 p.m.: Final shots fired Police body camera footage pinpoints the last audible shot from the gunman at 10:15 p.m., a full 10 minutes after the shooting began. It is not yet clear what prompted Paddock to stop the attack. When police searched his room following the shooting, they found that he still had a thousand rounds of ammunition, and though some of the 23 guns he had with him had jammed, the 64-year-old still had plenty of firepower to keep shooting. Joseph Lombardo, the Clark County sheriff, said Wednesday that police believe Paddock may have spotted the approach of a hotel security guard through cameras he installed in the hotel room door's peephole, and in a room-service cart in the hallway. "I believe because of his countermeasures, placed in the peephole, in the hallway, he observed the security guard and he was in fear he was about to be breached," Lombardo said. "He was doing everything possible to figure out how he could escape at that point. His concern was personal concern versus what was occurring down below him." The sheriff added that authorities believe Paddock had planned to survive the attack via some kind of escape. But he declined to provide further details about the evidence that led police to that conclusion. |
10:12 p.m.: Officers arrive on the 31st floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and report that the gunfire is coming from directly above them As Paddock continued shoot into the crowd, police frantically worked to locate the source of the gunfire. "It's coming from upstairs!" an officer said on police radio, as initial reports of the shots began to come in, at 10:08 p.m. "From the Mandalay Bay. Upstairs at Mandalay Bay. Halfway up, I see the shots coming from Mandalay Bay — halfway up!" Over the ensuing minutes, officers narrowed in on the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, according to radio dispatches transcribed by NPR. "Flashes in the middle of Mandalay Bay on the north side, and kind of on the west tower, but towards the center of the casino, one of the middle floors," an officer said. Outside the hotel, carnage mounted quickly. Footage from officer body cameras shows police responding under heavy fire in the early minutes of the attack. "We're pinned down on the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard," one officer said over the radio. "We're taking gunfire. It's going right over our heads." Finally, at 10:12 p.m., the officers closed in, arriving on the upper floors of the hotel, where they reported that the shots were coming from above. "I'm inside the Mandalay Bay on the 31st floor," an officer said quietly on the radio. "I can hear the automatic fire coming from one floor ahead, one floor above us." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjMjoH5xB3A |
10:05 p.m.: First shots fired Closed-circuit TV footage from the Route 91 Harvest music festival confirmed that the gunfire first erupted at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, as Paddock used modified rifles to spray automatic fire on the crowd below his hotel room. Chilling footage from the scene shows country music star Jason Aldean, who had gone onstage 30 minutes before the shots began, continuing to play as the gunfire begins. People initially appeared confused about what they were hearing, before terror set in. The shooting continued for about 10 minutes. Las Vegas police released a timeline Wednesday chronicling nearly 90 minutes of terror and chaos that unfolded after a shooter opened fire on a music festival Sunday. Ten minutes. That's how long it took for 64-year-old Stephen Paddock to kill 58 people, injure 489 others, and turn the final night of a country music festival into a massacre. Las Vegas police on Wednesday shared the most detailed timeline so far of the attack, based on footage from closed-circuit TV and police body cameras, as well as radio logs. The account provides new insight into the 90 minutes of terror that unfolded after Paddock began shooting, as police tried to locate the source of the gunfire as the casualties mounted. Even amid the chaos, authorities said, officers — and a brave hotel security guard — acted quickly and seem to have prevented Paddock from making an escape. Here's a moment-by-moment breakdown of how the shooting unfolded Sunday night. Mynd44,Explorers,Lalasticlala
