Gerrard59: . I did not see the need to respond to them in that thread . There were a lot of mentions. Ogbomosho and Agbado are popular yoruba banters. I do not pick offense at things like that. To beat Tinubu in 2027, one must be the better evil or greater. It is possible. It took me five hours to write that article because I wanted it to be backed by facts and data. |
richie240:Hi. I will tell you to be grateful to seun for the antispam bot |
First, let me be clear. I am a strong supporter of Peter Obi. He is the only politician in Nigeria today who is genuinely liked without paying people or offering them incentives. That says a lot. He built his movement on truth, competence, and connection. . Dear Obidients and fellow patriotic Nigerians, I care deeply about Nigeria. I’ve been reflecting since the news broke about the ADC (African Democratic Congress) coalition that aims to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. It gave me hope. But I’ve also seen a wave of emotional responses especially online about whether Peter Obi should run for president again or take another route. Most supporters of ADC are split into two groups: 1. Those who believe Obi should be the presidential candidate of the ADC coalition FOR 2027 and can beat Tinubu with the right northern vice. (Aisha, Datti, tunde ednut, etc....) 2. Those who believe Obi should be vice president to someone like Atiku, with a clear path to become president in 2031 or 2035(incase Atiku contests again----one must be prepared for every outcome. I belong to this group. Here’s why.: Let’s Look at Age and Timing Atiku’s age in 2027: 80 Peter Obi’s age in 2027: 66 Obi still has time. Atiku, most likely, will not run again after 2027. He has said this would be his last attempt. If Obi runs with him and becomes vice president, he will gain exposure, national structure, and northern goodwill. Then he can return stronger in 2031 or 2035 and no one will be able to stop him. Lessons from the Past: Obasanjo vs. Olu Falae in 1999 Let’s go back to 1999, when Nigeria returned to democracy. The first presidential election after the military handover from General Abdulsalami Abubakar was between General Olusegun Obasanjo (PDP) and Chief Olu Falae (APP-AD). Both were southern Christian candidates, both Yoruba. Obasanjo won. Why? From my research, Obasanjo had the full weight of the PDP behind him, stronger funding, better structure, and broader national reach. For example, he was able to donate 130 million naira and several vehicles to support his party’s campaign. Though both men were Yoruba Christians, Obasanjo was more acceptable to the North due to his military background and national profile. Falae, on the other hand, was viewed as a regional candidate (Yoruba president). His APP-AD coalition was weak, disorganized, and came together too late. Internal divisions and poor strategy sealed his fate. Also, The Southeast felt ignored by the APP-AD coalition and The AD joined the race late and lacked national structure. This is a valuable lesson for 2027. This same mistake will repeat itself in 2027 if Obi goes solo. History is staring us in the face from 1999 and 2023. We Must Talk About Loyalty: Buhari’s 15 Million Here’s something I can’t ignore and neither should you. In 2015 and 2019, President Buhari received the same number of votes: 15 million votes, despite rising insecurity, economic hardship, and hunger. In 2015, we could argue it was hope. But when Buhari won in 2019? That was loyalty. That loyalty came mostly from the North. That’s what Peter Obi is up against and why he must not go alone in 2027. He simply doesn’t have the northern base yet. I am not afraid of the North for some unreasonable ones here but you cannot ignore the numbers. Numbers Don’t Lie: Obi + Atiku Together Could Have Won in 2023 In 2019: Buhari/APC: 15,191,847 votes (Buhari's loyal supporters won him that election, reason why I had to quote Buhari up there) Atiku/Obi/PDP: 11,262,978 votes In 2023: Tinubu/APC: 8,794,726 votes (with stolen votes) Atiku/PDP: 6,984,520 votes Obi/LP: 6,101,533 votes (STOLEN VOTES FROM HIM NOT COUNTED) Combined votes for Atiku and Obi in 2023 = 13,086,053 Had they worked together in 2023, the story may have been different. The votes were there. But emotions, pride, and disunity gave Tinubu the win. Let’s not repeat the same mistake. To Beat Tinubu, You Must Go Lower Than Him. The best time to beat Tinubu was in 2023. The next best time is in 2027. To beat a man like Tinubu, one must be the bigger devil, the bigger evil, the bigger satan, the smarter one and be willing to go lower. You must be prepared for technicalities, INEC, Judiciary and what nots. You cannot fight Tinubu with church songs and Twitter hashtags. You need structure, ruthless planning, and deep alliances. ADC must be the bigger evil to defeat APC. If Tinubu is ready to go to hell for his ambition, then ADC must be ready to go there too, take the keys from the devil, and lock him inside. Politics is war. The longer you stay clean, the more likely you will lose. This doesn’t mean losing values. It means fighting fire with fire, strategy with strategy. Tinubu Betrayed Jonathan — Let’s Be Honest Some are saying “it’s the South’s turn.” But in 2013, Tinubu led a coalition to remove Jonathan, a fellow Southerner, to pave way for his own future ambition. If a northerner led that coalition, then I would have ignored it. Was it politically smart? Yes. Was it morally and democratically fair? No. But he did it and it worked. Now Atiku is being told not to do the same. Is atiku coalition to remove a southern president 1. Politically right = going by apc’s technicality, yes 2. Morally and democratically right = again by apc’s structure and technicality, yes It’s hypocrisy. If Tinubu could betray a southern brother, Atiku leading a new coalition is not a crime. Do me I do you. It’s strategy. Jonathan Was Only Accepted Because He Was Vice First Another truth we must face. The only reason the North accepted Jonathan in 2011 was because he had already been vice president and acting president. He had proven himself. He was part of the system. He won 2011 election with 22,495,187 votes defeating Buhari with 12,214,853 votes. In 2015, When it was time to choose between Jonathan and their own son, Buhari, again, they didn’t hesitate to vote against Jonathan. Why? Between 2011 and 2015, Buhari gained strong support through the formation of APC, backing from the North, and a powerful media campaign that weakened Jonathan’s image, particularly from Tinubu. Jonathan lost key supporters, faced internal party issues, and struggled with low voter turnout in his main regions. You see why I say ADC must be the bigger devil and willing to go lower. Now ask yourself: has Obi earned that kind of national political weight yet? Not yet. And that’s okay but it means he needs to take a longer route. That’s not weakness. That’s wisdom. We Cannot Ignore Religion Religion still plays a major role in Nigerian elections. Tinubu knew this, which is why he boldly picked another Muslim as his running mate and it worked in the North. Peter Obi is a southern Christian. If he runs alone, it gives political enemies room to stir fear among northern voters. It would be very easy to frame it as a Christian agenda. Insecurity has worsened under Tinubu’s leadership, yet he has shown little empathy or urgency in addressing the growing violence across the country. Ironically, many fear another Fulani president, but under a Southern one, killings have continued unchecked. This is a man who asked "Where are the cows" after Pa Fasoranti's daughter was killed by these men. Let’s not pretend Nigeria is post-religious. It’s not. Politics is Chess, Not Checkers— Obi vs Tinubu Imagine this: You're playing against a grandmaster and by move 7, he sacrifices his queen (the most powerful piece on the board). You're thinking, “This guy don fumble.” . But what you don’t realize is; He already planned to checkmate you with a knight and a pawn------slowly, strategically, with moves you can’t even see yet. Without mercy. That’s what APC did in 2023. That’s what they will do again if we underestimate them in 2027.Peter Obi might be holding the “queen” right now (public love, integrity, online army). But if he plays emotionally, and refuses to sacrifice, he risks losing to a knight-pawn combo built in the North and defended by incumbency. Final Thoughts: Logic Over Sentiment Obi is the hope of millions but hope is not a strategy. Love is not structure. And emotion is not a political plan. Tinubu has shown he can play ugly chess and still win. ADC must play dirty too and like I said must go lower. If the opposition wants to win, they must: 1. Think 10 moves ahead and have back up plans. 2. Be ready to sacrifice. 3. Focus not just on strength, but position and timing. If Obi runs as vice president to Atiku, wins, and governs as VP, he will gain northern goodwill, national acceptance, and the grassroots support he needs to win in 2031 or 2035. At that point, no region will be able to deny him. But if he insists on running in 2027, and the votes are split again, APC will remain and Nigerians will suffer more than we ever imagined and know the true meaning of retrogression. The goal in the masses heart should be to remove APC from aso rock by any means. It is bigger than Obi and Atiku's ambition. Let us not repeat the same mistake, my people. Let us not destroy our only chance to rescue Nigeria because of pride, ego, or blind sentiment. We must be the new nationalists for Nigeria. We fought for our independence from the British. Let us fight for our lives and independence this time from bad leaders. We must do right for the next generation. Thank you for reading. From a concerned patriot — a full-blooded Yoruba daughter who is tired of watching Nigeria fall apart. |

immortalcrown:I understand you but my post is specifically for the "evening newspaper term". I created it in response to this thread. https://www.nairaland.com/8446166/ladies-aged-30-38-years-how. I already struggled to make this topic short. Yes. These categories of women exist. Maybe I would create a topic for that another time but I do not have enough experience to talk about it. Maybe some introspection would give me some new insights. Thank you for your contribution. |
Pelanowire:No. It was because of this topic. I finally had the time to create a thread for it. https://www.nairaland.com/8446166/ladies-aged-30-38-years-how |
Pelanowire:Your description is already up there. ![]() |
pocohantas:Hey Poco, I finally created the thread. ![]() |
This one is for the babes who are starting to question their worth because of what they see online. I turn 30 next Sunday, so I believe I’m in a good place to write this, not from a place of fear, but from experience and sense. Over the last few months, I’ve seen some wild comments from men on Nairaland. Things like “after 7”, “evening newspaper”, “depleted ovaries”… you name it. But let me tell you: that’s not on you. That’s on them. If you're feeling down because of these words, pause and breathe. . These men; the ones who use these terms. I’ve studied them. Yes, I went through their old posts. The youngest among them is about 43. 😂 Imagine a 43-year-old man online calling women expired. God forbid my own future husband is wasting his time typing such rubbish on a forum. One even replied me once saying I should "rest". This is someone struggling to pay N150k school fees for his 8-year-old child and rent somewhere in the bush in Ikorodu. 😭 Another one, sleeping in the office Monday to Friday because transport to Ajah will eat his entire salary. We already had our third degree by 23 but one man from Ogbomosho thinks he would be doing me a favour by marrying me. These same people shouting “in saner climes” but the only airport they have seen is from watching James Bond movies. 😭😭😭 And these are the same ones screaming "I can't marry a 25+ year old, they’re too old." At 40+? You’re not even ashamed. Ato ole. Ladies, these are the ones calling you evening newspaper. Do you now see that it has nothing to do with you? If you’re here and you’re worried about these people, don’t be. This message is not for the real men who respect women and are just struggling financially. My message for you is: it’ll be okay soon, amen. Now for the rest of us baby girls 👸🏽: There’s a flawed logic these same men like to push. This idea of "100 women to 1 man". It’s a lie. Statistically, there are more men than women in Nigeria and in the world. You can Google it. They just use that flawed stat to make women feel desperate. Let me say this clearly girls: ![]() If you are not earning your own money, you have no business dating. Once you start making money, your standards go up naturally. That’s why you’ll see Regina Daniels with a Ned Nwoko, but you’ll never see Temi Otedola with Dangote. 😏 I saw a thread the other day. One Nairaland uncle asking for advice on dating an 18-year-old. By page 2, he had mentioned giving money to her mother. So please, work. Even if it’s small. Take yourself on mini-vacations within Nigeria. Join clubs. Play sports. I play chess. In fact, there’s no antichess player in Africa better than me. Just recently, I came 3rd out of 2,500 players globally in the Antichess World Championship . 💅🏽I’m also starting Pilates with my girls, and I’m going to take standard chess seriously again. I want to become Nigeria’s first grandmaster by age 37. So please my girls: 1. Buy good skincare. 2. Learn how to do your makeup — Mac, Fenty, Lancôme… get at least one. 3. Look younger, stay fresh. 4. Don’t ever beg for transport fare to go on a date. 🙅🏽♀️ Don’t settle because some man with a “Akungba university 1984” ID is calling you names online. 😭 Look at Asa Asika. Look at Davido. Look at Toolz and Tunde. Real rich kids marry close in age because they’re not looking for desperation, they’re looking for a match. Take your time. Don’t lower your crown. Someone will love you fully with money, respect, maturity, and peace of mind. There’s someone for everyone. Just don’t rush because of what these agbado philosophers are saying on Nairaland . 😂 Remember: When they say “You’re too old,” just remember, The only thing outdated is their mindset which expired after Jonathan’s first tenure. Stop explaining your standards to people who’ve never met them. There’s a man for every woman and yours will see your worth without needing you to shrink or beg for it. ![]() So to every woman reading this: You’re not behind. Evening newspaper still has breaking news. Bye baby girls

Dalohad:LoL. Don't worry. Be very grateful for the antispam bot. ![]() I wil have your time on Thursday. |
pocohantas:Funnily enough, I am not even offended by the Name. I just wonder why they grab any opportunity to use that phrase. I will create a topic addressing this issue later in the week. If you go on google and type "evening newspaper", Nairaland is the only platform that brings out that phrase. Seun should not limit nairaland's antibot to tribalistic comments but also take derogatory terms like this seriously. The idiots up there think I am afraid to respond to them. I quote one and I am banned immediately. |
![]() I am going to create a thread about Nairaland men and their densdeeee opinions about women. Localllllllll ratsettttsss. Nairaland is the only platform that calls women Evening newspapers. Dirtyyy minnndeddd people |
Dalohad:Only women are expected to complete schooling and hop into marriage after. Nairaland men and their "desnseee" thinking. Do you not think you would also be respected for getting married immediately afer school? Your mates that got married right after school and still doing well, do they have two heads? All these village old men who found small money and thinks the world revolves around them. What else are you going to call them? Evening newspaper, After 7, Frusttyrated women. Archaic bluudoody iduitsooytss. |
. I did not see the need to respond to them in that thread
